Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Alicia Spinnet and Fred Weasley
WHEN: August 3, 2006
WHERE: WWW and beyond!
WHAT: Hanging out and general merriment

Alicia had been back in Veritas permanently for about a week now, but most of that time had been spent unpacking and tying up loose ends with the Ministry of Magic regarding connecting her fireplace to the Floo Network. She never thought that something as simple as that would be that much of a hassle, but she'd had to fill out so many forms that she feared her hand was permanently cramped. Now that she was finally free of all that, however, she decided to go out and have fun. And really, if she wanted to have fun, who better to do that with than Fred or George Weasley?

As she headed out the front door of her cottage, she checked her watch and saw that if she hurried, she could make it to their store at just before it closed. Maybe if she was lucky, one of them would be free to go out and do something with her. It only took her a few minutes to navigate her way through town, and pretty soon she was entering the shop. Jumping a little at the horn that sounded when she stepped through the door -- the stupid thing startled her every time! -- she ran a hand through her hair to try and undo some of the damage the wind had done on her way over.

Spotting one of the twins behind the counter with his back to her, she marched over and loudly announced, "Excuse me? I require some assistance. I know you're about to close, but I have a very large order that needs filled."

Sorry if it's crap, been awhile since I've written. lol

Fred had been the one to finish up closing for the night - George having run off to do Godric knows what. His twin should have charmed the door locked and switched their sign to closed on his way out, but considering the familiar honk at the door, it hadn't been so.

He had almost thought his twin had forgotten something until he heard a female voice. Turning around from the fixture of Extendable Ears and Decoy Detonators, his blue eyes recognized the figure at the front as that of Alicia Spinnet's. They twinkled as much as the smile stretching across his face.

"A large order needing to be filled, eh?" he returned, one eyebrow quirking upwards, "Are you sure you're in the right place? We're only a joke shoppe, Miss..."

It's fine! I haven't written in forever either. : /

Alicia made a face at Fred, then leaned forward on the counter. "There's that sense of humour I've missed so," she grinned back. "And what if I really had come in to place an order? You would have just lost a sale for implying I was here for anything less than honourable."

She glanced around the shop and saw that it was empty besides her and Fred. With a flick of her wand, she locked the front door and looked back at him. "So anyway, I know it's really last minute, but do you have plans now?"

Fred rolled his eyes, "No, I wouldn't have, it's you we're speaking of. You wouldn't buy any other cheap knock offs for such a big fill," he answered knowingly. No other joke shoppe had become even close to Fred and George's.

"Well, I was quite occupied with neatly arranging the contents of my place of business but then you came and mussed it up, so no, not really," he smirked, "What was it that you came here in mind for?"

"You and your spot-on logic. It takes the fun out of everything," Alicia teased. Straightening up, she placed a hand on her hip and raised her eyebrows at Fred. "How did I muss up you arranging things exactly? I was going to take you out someplace fun, but if you'd rather stay here all by your lonesome, you can."

"It does not. I put the fun IN everything. Big difference, Ali, my dear," he said in a rather tsking voice before changing his tone to something more light-hearted

Fred faced Alicia with an assault of eye flutters, "Oh my stars, really? You were going to take me out?"

Biting back a laugh at Fred's actions, Alicia peered closely at him. "Do you have something in your eye or is that just a nervous tic? Yes, I was going to take you out."

"Nervous tic," Fred replied immediately, swiping at his hair as a nervous girl would, "This is just so sudden," he said, waving his hand in front of his face, "but of course I'll go out with you," he laughed.

"Let me just finish up and we should be good to go. What splendid place will you be taking me to?"

"Good," Alicia smiled, drumming her fingers on the top of the counter. "Now, you won't be acting like that when we go out, right?" she asked, mimicking the eye fluttering and hair swiping. "Because then I might have to pretend like I don't know you."

"For starters, I will be taking you to the fabulous McAlister's Pub just up the street. And after that -- well, who knows?" she shrugged.

Fred swat at Alicia's hands, "Don't treat me like a child. Or at the very least treat me like a big child where you'll hold my hand," he smirked, "You couldn't pretend not knowing me. I'll embarrass you far too much in public should you even start to pretend to ignore me."

"Ah, fabulous McAlister's with their fabulous Firewhiskeys," he added, popping himself behind the counter and locking the register in, "I like your style, Spinnet. Let's go where the night leads us!"

"Okay, I'll treat you like a large child," Alicia agreed with a nod. Taking Fred's hand, she pulled him away from the counter. "Come on Fred, let's get your jacket and go. No dawdling now. Also, if you start to embarrass me, I'll embarrass you. And I'll make it ten times worse."

Pushing open the front door, she let out a loud laugh. "The night could lead us to some very interesting places if we partake in one too many of those fabulous Firewhiskeys."

Fred laughed, his fingers curling around Alicia's, "Embarrass me? No chance. I'd love to see you try," he coaxed her, unabashed.

"Interesting places? Like a muggle carnival?" Fred questioned innocently as he turned to lock the doors of the shoppe, "Dad was going off about seeing one. Sounded exciting."

Alicia turned to look up at Fred. "Don't tempt me, young man," she teased with a raise of her eyebrows. "Because I'll do it."

"Sure, let's go with that," she replied after a moment. "I've been to a muggle carnival before. I was pretty young, though, so I don't remember much."

The redhead stomped his foot in a comical manner, "Do it! I double doxy dare you!"

Moving his hand from hers and linking their arms instead, Fred began to walk with Alicia in the direction of the bar, "Do you even know where one might be?" he asked before adding, "Anyhow, I'm sure we'll end up somewhere exciting and not at all skeevy when we're drunk."

"Oh, yeah? Well, I triple -- no, infinity doxy dare you to embarrass me!" Alicia challenged Fred right back.

Alicia reached her free hand up to scratch at her head, then ran her fingers through her hair. "I think they usually set up camp on the outskirts of towns. You have to watch out for the carny folk, though. Some of them are scary." With a laugh, she patted Fred's shoulder. "Right. You keep thinking that. If I get drunk, I'll probably wind up in an alley with a questionable tattoo."

Fred simply smiled, "All right then," he agreed, taking on her challenge which she would soon regret.

"Scary? Scary like my mum on a bad day scary or scary like Snape when he's actually taken a shower?"

Fred tilted his head in Alicia's direction, "Oh, come on, I know you really want some ink on you, Ali. You don't have to use drinking as an excuse," he teased.

Alicia returned his smile, although she was secretly terrified by what he might come up with. Well, terrified and excited.

She considered the two options for a moment. "Scary like they might lure us in, knock us out, cut us open and remove some non-vital organs to sell on the black market, then sew us back up and leave us for dead," she replied seriously. Cracking a smile a moment later, she laughed and punched Fred lightly on the arm. "No, I'm just messing with you. I'm sure all of the carnival workers are just lovely."

"You always could read me like a book," Alicia sighed, letting her head droop down. "It's true. I want a likeness of your face tattooed across my heart." She lifted one hand and placed it on her chest.

"Were you just thinking about this sort of thing or daydreaming it? Honestly.." Fred trailed with a narrow smirk and a small shake of his head.

"Well, I'm flattered, really. But then George would get jealous and want a tattoo of him on you as well and that would just be awkward and you'd one day have to explain why you have portraits of men upon your bosom. Which I am going to find hilarious for days to come even if you don't do such a thing," he said, stifling a chuckle.

Shrugging, Alicia decided, "You know what? Let's just stay away from carnivals in general for awhile. Just to be safe."

"George doesn't have to know about it," Alicia pointed out teasingly. "And who is going to see it that I'm going to have to explain it to?" she continued. "I mean, I'm obviously not going to do it, so the answer doesn't really matter, I guess."

"If you want to be Sally Safety, sure then.." the redhead trailed with a smirk on his face. He took a right turn down a side road towards a set of dimly lit buildings.

"George would find out. Some how. Some way," he said, before heaving a ridiculous sigh, "Dunno. Some bloke you encounter tonight after getting said tattoo?"

The doors to the bar were a few steps within reach; the raucous sounds inside muffled until Fred reached for the handle and pried it open.

Alicia made a face at Fred, but didn't take the bait. She knew she was perfectly capable of being crazy and having fun. Following behind Fred, she hurried to catch up.

"Oi, as my friend, it is your duty to make sure I don't wander off with any strange blokes tonight," she informed him. "And I'll do the same for you."

Grinning, Alicia scampered forward and through the open door, grinning back over her shoulder at Fred. "Thank you!" she chirped, even though she wasn't sure he'd actually meant to hold the door for her.

"So I'm not allowed to let you wander off at all, is that it? Because, believe me, Ali, every bloke out there is some sort of strange."

He paused to look around the bar, it was semi-crowded. The usual nights crowd submerged in their seats and blended in with the noise.

"And thank you," he added, "I wouldn't want to gallivant off with questionable men either. Where do you want to sit?" Fred gestured vastly from the tables and booths to the bar.

"That's it precisely. As far as you're concerned, we're glued together," Alicia firmly nodded. "And what sort of strange are you, exactly?"

Waving to someone she knew, Alicia shrugged off her jacket and draped it over her arm.

"I meant questionable women, but I'll keep the men away from you, too," she joked. Glancing around the pub, she surveyed the seating options. "I want to sit at a booth," she decided, heading toward a small two-person one.

"The fun kind of strange that you normally wouldn't go for until I flashed you a disarming smile," the redhead said with a smirk and a wide grin.

"Well, now I'm just all sorts of disappointed," Fred remarked with a pout. When a waitress stopped by the booth a few moments later, he mustered up a grin and ordered a bottle of Firewhiskey.

"So, Miss Spinnet. Tell me all that I've been missing out on in your life." Shrugging off his work coat, the blue-eyed jokester tossed it on his seat.

"As awesome as your smile is, I think I fell for you before I saw it. It was just the icing on the cake. You know, back at school," Alicia admitted, picking up a menu.

Ordering a bottle of Firewhiskey as well, Alicia continued to browse the menu. "You'll get over it," she laughed.

Peering at Fred over the top of her menu, she shrugged. "Not much, honestly. Just Quidditch practise and games. What about you?"

"Ah, was it my stunning hair? My splendid body that reeled you in?" he teased as he pinched a menu between his fingers and flipped it over.

"I do believe it'll take at least two bottles of Firewhiskey and a pint of beer before I'll let it pass." Deciding to just order some chips and cheese, he set the menu down and leaned back against the booth's cushy seating.

"Oh, you know, educating the youth today with enlightening instruments and joyful tools of..education," he said, puckering his lips and waving a hand.

Alicia held the menu up to cover her face and bit her lip so as not to laugh out loud. Still, her shaking shoulders gave her away. "Yeah, okay."

"By that time, you won't even remember what you were upset about," Alicia pointed out. "I can't decide what I want! Maybe dessert."

"And to think I was there when you guys first started out," she mused. "I think I even tested some products -- or, well, was one of the first people to try them after you and George perfected them."

Fred knew Alicia would laugh. That was all right. He knew it was the freckles she adored.

"That's exactly the point," Fred remarked as the woman brought over the two bottles of Firewhiskey with a pair of glasses. "Be bold, go with some dessert."

Placing his order with the waitress before she wandered off, the redhead poured himself a third of whiskey.

"It doesn't even feel that long ago, does it?" he questioned, though him and George have been inventing and testing things for well over ten years, "Puking Pastilles is still, by far, the worst to have worked through. Puking for days, I was."

"Fine, you've talked me into it," Alicia joked, before ordering the Death By Chocolate off the menu. "I will die a happy woman tonight."

She poured some of the Firewhiskey into her own glass and shook her head. "No, it doesn't. In fact, I almost feel like we're in Hogsmeade on a trip. Except, you know, we wouldn't be drinking Firewhiskey."

Taking a drink, she set her glass down and stared at Fred for a long while. "It was your back and arms, by the way," she smirked. Commence Operation Embarrassment.

"No, no, I'm not allowed to let you wander. Not even into death's arms," Fred tutted, taking a swig of his whiskey.

"You wouldn't be," he remarked, "Madame Rosmerta took a particular liking to George and I."

"Ah, of course, arms and back.. It all makes sense..you Quidditch admirer, you!" he teased.

"I'm sure Madame Rosmerta did take a liking to you," Alicia agreed. "Probably as much as you took a liking to her." She knew that the barmaid had captured the attention of almost every boy in Hogwarts at one time or another.

Sitting up straighter, Alicia replied, "Hey! I was more than just a Quidditch admirer. I played, too." Resting an elbow on the table, she leaned her chin on her hand and pretended to daydream. "But yes, more often than not I'd get distracted by how your muscles rippled," she sighed.
