George Weasley ([info]groovygeorge) wrote in [info]veritaserum_rp,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: George Weasley and Daphne Greengrass
Where: The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade
When: Evening, late enough for George and Daphne to have a nice buzz going, though I suppose that depends on how early they started drinking.
What: George and Daphne get drunk and... acquainted.

George stared blankly down into his pint. He was trying to remember what number it was. He'd had two since he'd been here, this being the third... One at the Leaky Cauldron before that until he'd heard someone that sounded an awful lot like his mother calling for him and he'd had to make a quick exit. Then there was the half a bottle of firewhiskey he'd put back while he'd been been pretending to work all day. How many pints would that make?

Shrugging, he took a nice long drink and glanced around the bar. Well, at least he didn't see anyone he knew here. At least not anyone that looked like his mother.

Daphne quirked a brow at him. "If I didn't know better, Weasley, I'd say you were jealous of him." And why shouldn't he be? But she would love to hear him admit it, jealous of his worst enemy.

"Well, George, you've had the opportunity to become a part of it and have rejected it. Who's to say you couldn't turn things around if you happened upon an advantageous marriage? Actually, your shop must have earned you some financial gain by now. You could find someone of fairly decent standing to wed and work your way up. Although your... affiliations could be a bit of a problem, I suppose."

"Jealous? Of Draco Malfoy?" George laughed so hard he thought he might be sick.

"I don't want to be a part of it," he frowned, sobering up. "All of that marrying for money and titles and... and nonsense. It's just... it's just stupid."

Ugh, his laugh was annoying. Daphne wasn't sure if it was because he was drunk or if it was like that all the time. She hoped not.

"It isn't nonsense." Daphne was sick of it, having people tell her that her entire world was stupid, that everything she'd been taught for the past twenty-some years was a joke. She'd heard it before, from the same type of people, those who didn't belong to it. "You can learn to love someone. Many people are extremely happy with their marriages. Just because they're advantageous doesn't mean they're loveless." She had loved Seth, and she would have married him, she thought, if things hadn't gone sour, if he had just...

"That's what they say," George frowned. He refuse to believe Parvati actually loved Draco. Well, maybe she did... She was that stupid. But he loved her for it. she just couldn't see what a rotten person he really was. "I still think it's nonsense. You shouldn't marry someone just because they're rich and pretty."

"And what exactly do you suggest, George?" she drawled. "Life isn't some silly fairy tale. Arranged marriages are far closer to finding a prince charming than anything you could possibly come up with." She ran her finger around the rim of her glass idly. "I've tried your way of doing things. It doesn't work."

"... It hasn't really worked for me either," George admitted with a frown. where the hell was that drink. "But still. I can't help but be a hopeless romantic, I suppose." He couldn't help but snort. "Maybe arranged marriage are the way to go. You're single, right? Why don't we give it a shot?"

Daphne let out a short burst of laughter. "What? Us?" She gestured between the two of them, before letting out another bout of laughter. "You can't be serious." They'd spent the entire evening bickering at each other, and he was suggesting marriage? Weasleys really were a strange lot.

"Well why not? If we follow your logic, no matter how awful we think the other is money and status will solve all of our problems." It made perfect sense to him. "Right?"

Daphne's brows furrowed in drunken confusion. He had a point. He had money. He had pure blood. But there was a catch. There was something about the Weasleys that put them off-limits.

Oh yes.

"And what about all your impure friends?" she asked, arms crossing over her chest. "You'll give them all up to marry me?" No, of course not, because the men in Daphne Greengrass' life always found something to put above her.

"Why would I have to give them up?" George frowned. "I'm a rich and powerful pureblooded man. I can do whatever I damn well please, right?"

"You might not like my non-pure friends, but you're supposed to bow to my wishes and all that, right? Part of being a proper pureblood wife?"

Daphne chuckled. "Clearly you've never gotten to know a true pureblood woman if you think she'd let her husband run the show." She offered a smirk in his direction. "You see," she went back to her earlier position, chin in hand, propped up her elbow, leaning in toward him. "A pureblooded man is nothing without a strong woman beside him. We influence all of his decisions. We can change his mood and opinions with a bat of our eyelashes. And we do it all without him ever realizing what's happening."

"I always knew you women were tricky little devils," George smirked at her. "You can deny it with all the coy smiles you want, you're manipulative and evil."

"If you weren't so damn attractive we'd never let you get away with it."

She laughed lightly. "If you lot could figure out what was best for you, we wouldn't have to, now would we?" Daphne personally held the belief that the women of the pureblood elite were what held the society together.

"Mm. I suppose you might have me there," George admitted with another frown. He didn't seem to be doing to well with the decision-making on his own, did he? "Does that mean we're engaged then?"

"Only if you're willing to give up all your little friends. I can't be known as the woman married to the muggle sympathizer." Normally, Daphne refrained from such teasing conversation as it wasn't proper, but with her guard down at her brain not functioning at its usual levels, things tended to slip out.

George frowned. He wasn't sure he'd be able to do that. No, he was sure he wouldn't. "Parvati wouldn't ask me to give up my friends," he grumbled.

"Oh please don't tell me you're in love with her, too," Daphne groaned. "Honestly, what do you people see in her? Is that really what you want? A bubbly, squealing ball of pink?" Why? Why?! Was it her looks? Sure, she was exotically beautiful and had a body that was close to perfect, but didn't what was in someone's head mean anything anymore?

"I'm not in love with her!" George protested, a little too quickly. Did it even matter any ore? He'd confessed it to her, was it a big deal if everyone else knew too? And she's told Draco, of course... Ugh.

"She's... she's... all right, so she is a bubbly, squealing ball of pink. But I love her," he sighed. Where the hell was that drink? "Not that it matters."

"If you're after a bubbly, squealing ball of pink, I'm afraid I'm going to have to call off our engagement," she drawled bitterly. "I can't even pretend to fill that role for you, love." The thought of prancing around like Parvati Patil was enough to make her queasy.

"That's all right. I'm not sure I'd want to see you bubbly. And your shrieking is bad enough, I'd hate to hear you squeal." George sighed.

Daphne sighed at his answer. "I wasn't shrieking."

Weakly, she dropped her feet to the ground to rise out of her seat. The last thing she needed that night was to listen to George Weasley pine after Parvati Patil. It was disgusting.

Side stepping around her stool, Daphne immediately regretted wearing heels that evening. Her balance was less than top notch, and she soon found herself stumbling right into the man she'd been hoping to desert, latching on to him to prevent herself from collapsing.

"Oof," George grunted as he was collided with. Luckily he was still seated, or they would have both gone crashing to the floor.

"Careful there," he murmured, trying to help he right herself without putting his hands anywhere that might get him slapped. "Perhaps I should walk you home. After all, as your future husband, it's only right."

"Sorry." Still clutching on to his arms, Daphne managed to regain her balance, restoring her usual prim posture temporarily. "That's very noble of you, but the manor's rather far away. You'd have to floo with me there." The idea seemed silly to her, but considering all the bizarre places she might end up if she pronounced the name wrong, she supposed it wasn't entirely far-fetched.

"I'm not sure if you can be trusted to Floo in this condition," George frowned, slowly climbing to his own feet. He had to grab at the table to help keep his balance, but other than than he was rather smooth about it. "You might end up not all there. Or somewhere else entirely. Or both at once. Can you get splinched when you Floo? Or just banged up a bit if you don't watch your elbows?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Muaha. I made it!

"You end up in the wrong place," she answered, smirking slightly as she watched him get up. At least she wasn't the only one with poor balance. "Which can be problematic if you don't know where you are. Though I supposoe you could always just turn around and try again, but Merlin knows how many times you could repeat that cycle."
