George Weasley ([info]groovygeorge) wrote in [info]veritaserum_rp,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: George Weasley and Daphne Greengrass
Where: The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade
When: Evening, late enough for George and Daphne to have a nice buzz going, though I suppose that depends on how early they started drinking.
What: George and Daphne get drunk and... acquainted.

George stared blankly down into his pint. He was trying to remember what number it was. He'd had two since he'd been here, this being the third... One at the Leaky Cauldron before that until he'd heard someone that sounded an awful lot like his mother calling for him and he'd had to make a quick exit. Then there was the half a bottle of firewhiskey he'd put back while he'd been been pretending to work all day. How many pints would that make?

Shrugging, he took a nice long drink and glanced around the bar. Well, at least he didn't see anyone he knew here. At least not anyone that looked like his mother.

Daphne had glanced over upon seeing a flash of red from the corner of her eye. There was only one red that could look quite so towntrodden as that, and it was the infamous Weasley red, which Weasley it belonged to, she wasn't entirely sure of, even as she recognized him as one of the older lot.

She watched him down one pint, then another, and start on a third. Her nose crinkled slightly at the notion of so many useless calories. Liquor was certainly the way to go in her mind. Alcohol was rarely lady-like, but she found liquor to be the best option out of those she was offered. "Don't you think you've had enough?" she asked him dryly, having taken the final sip of her own drink.

George's eyes went wide when he realized someone was talking to him. Turning his head, he was met with a sneer that could only belong to a Slytherin. His intoxicated state left him unable to respond for a moment or tw until he sorted out just which one it belonged to.

"Ah, Daphne," He finally settled on, offering the girl the best smile he could muster at the moment. "I'd know that shrill, irritating voice anywhere."

He looked back to his mug, which he was surprised to find empty all ready. "I've only had enough when I've lost count. So far I've had three. Four. Maybe five or six. But three for sure since I've been here, so I think I could handle at least one more."

"I don't have a shrill voice," she retorted defensively, something she never would have done had she not had a decent amount of alcohol in her. Liquor made Daphne let her guard down. Her opinions were given much more freely (and certainly much more honestly) and her emotions were actually... decipherable.

"Six? You don't find that excessive?" Six would have Daphne slurring her speech and unable to walk straight. She supposed blokes had a higher tolerance, but still... He seemed reasonably sober.

"I notice you said nothing about it being irritating," George pointed out with a lopsided grin, leaning back in his chair. He nearly lost his balance and had to scramble to right himself. "... So I'll let you have the shrill if you agree to keep the irritating." Maybe she hadn't noticed.

"It might be. I'll be sure to let you know when I get there," he nodded, motioning for another drink.

"So what brings you here, anyway? And talking to a Weasley, no less? I'd have thought you'd rather be caught dead."

Daphne couldn't help herself. She let out a small burst of laughter at his stumble. Her hand moved to cover her mouth, though her eyes revealed the smile still lingering underneath. "I find your voice irritating because I find you irritating," she told him bluntly upon regaining composure, or as close to it as she was going to get. "That doesn't mean it's shrill." Though she wasn't entirely sure a man's voice could be shrill, now that she thought of it.

Her chin came to rest lazily in hand, propped up by her elbow as she looked him over. "There are worse people I could be talking to." She reached for her newly replaced drink with her free arm, not bothering to life her chin from her hand as she took a sip. "You're pureblooded, at least. Even if you insist on hanging around filthy riffraff."

"Well I suppose I can't argue with that logic," George said thoughtfully, nodding. "It can be shrill and not irritating, just like it can be irritating and not shrill. So just because it's not shrill doesn't mean it's not irritating... I think. Ah, hell, you win," he decided with a faint frown. This was getting too complicated.

"I suppose I could do worse for company as well," he admitted, taking a long drink of his freshly refilled pint. "You might be severely lacking in personality, but at least you're nice to look at."

As George went through his rambling logic, Daphne proceeded to down the rest of her drink. Her head hurt bad enough as it was to think, let alone to have to grasp such a complicated concept. She blamed that on Seth bloody Moon. In fact, she was content to blame everything that had ever gone wrong in the history of existence on Seth Moon.

His last comment, however, had her choking on the remnants of her drink in her surprise. "Excuse me?" she demanded, upon regaining the ability to breathe properly.

"Aah!" George winced and moved to clap one hand over his ear when she raised her voice. "Bloody hell, woman! I told you you were shrill! Merlin, any higher and only dogs would be able to hear you."

He rubbed his ear slowly and gave her a dirty look. "You heard me!" He wasn't sure which part of it she'd been objecting to, so he decided to play it safe.

Daphne rolled her eyes. "Don't be so melodramatic. Merlin, you're acting like you're alread hungover!" Her voice wasn't that bad... was it?

Her lips were tugged downward into a frown. "That's an impolite thing to say to a lady- on both accounts, for that matter." Who was Weasley to be judging how nice she was to look at anyway?

"Well I did start drinking at ten this morning," George admitted, slowly moving his hand away from his ear and back down to grasp his glass. "So I suppose I very well could be..."

"I never claimed to be polite," He pointed out, taking another long drink. "and you, my dear, should stop claiming to be a lady. Not if you're going to go around shrieking like that."

"At ten?" she asked, brows shooting up. Weasley must have been lower than she had originally thought if he spent the majority of his days drunk off his ass harassing innocent women (she was, of course, referring to herself as an innocent woman in this case). "You've spent the entire day drunk? Why?" It was hard to miss the condescending tone to her voice.

"I am a lady, Weasley, and you'd be wise to start treating me like one. No one else seems to have been affected by my so-called shrieks but you."

"I haven't spent the entire day drunk," George huffed indignantly. "I just said I started at ten. I wasn't really drunk until about an hour ago. One doesn't have to drink in excess to enjoy a bit of alcohol... all day long."

"Well, they don't have to be quite so close or see that awful expression you make when you do it," he pointed out, finishing off his drink. "Maybe I'll take back my comment about you being nice to look at..."

Daphne rolled her eyes. "Fine. Why have you been 'enjoying alcohol' all day long?" Or was it some sort of barbaric habit of his to drown himself in booze? It wouldn't surprise her.

"Fine," she snapped. "Take it back. It's not as if your opinion matters to me." She needed another drink, and she gestured to the bartender for another, which, in truth, she probably shouldn't have. "In fact, none of you blokes' opinions matter. You're all a bunch of egotistical, selfish, idiots anyway."

"If you must know, I am depressed," George informed her with a nod. He picked up his glass and looked into it... empty all ready? "Which is a perfectly reasonable... reason to drink early and often."

"My my, Miss Greengrass, it sounds like you have something against men," he smirked. How drunk was she? Probably not as drunk as he was. But close. "Do tell me all the sordid details."

"And what do you have to be depressed about?" As far as she knew, he was all rainbows and sunshine. He ran his happy little jokeshop with his happy little twin brother- whichever one he was. He had a dozen little cheery girlfriends, and his life was just peachy keen.

"My relationship with Seth- or lack thereof- is none of your business, Mr. Weasley," she replied firmly.

"Nothing that would concern you, Miss Ice Queen," George said, giving her a little glare. Like hell he was going to spill his guts to her.

"Seth?" He perked up considerably. "Seth Moon? I didn't know you were dating a movie star! Oh, now I have to know everyth-- wait, isn't he married? Oh, you homewrecker! I love it, Daphne, tell me more."

Daphne scoffed. "You're right. Your latest escapades with those stupid sheep of yours doesn't concern me in the least."

Aw, crap. Had she let something slip? Daphne's eyes widened at his insinuation. "I am nothing of the sort!" she exclaimed, horrified. "I would never do such a thing! Seth and I split long ago, and we certainly have had no such interactions since! I couldn't possibly be expected to maintain a relationship with someone with Seth's-" She managed to have enough tact not to bring up Seth's addictions. "It doesn't matter. He's earned a divorce without any help from me!"

"Sheep? Are you insinuating I'm doing untoward things with my brother's pets?" George frowned.

George winced at the raised voice again. Maybe he was a little hungover. "Wait wait wait, Seth Moon is getting a divorce? Do the gossip rags know?" George's eyes widened. "Are you sure you had nothing to do with it?"

"You said it, not me," she answered, smirking. It was a childish thing to say, again, indicative of the alcohol in her system.

"I had nothing to do with it," she replied, adamant. "I had no reason to split them up." With Seth otherwise occupied, Daphne couldn't let herself drift back to him and his habits. Their feelings for each other were clearly still there, but Seth had made it clear he valued his addictions more than he did her when he refused to give them up. "Besides, if I were going to play homewrecker, don't you think I'd have gone for the Malfoys? I'd certainly benefit more from it."

"I... Hmph," George frowned. He supposed he couldn't argue with that logic.

"Well, he is pretty dreamy," He pointed out. "Wait. The Malfoys?" His drunken cheerfulness was knocked down a notch. "What would you gain from breaking them up?"

"Draco Malfoy was the most eligible pureblood bachelor in the entirety of the Wizarding World before Patil came along," she said, looking at him as if he were mad not to have known such. "Merlin knows their relationship is completely ridiculous. I'm amazed it's lasted this long." Daphne had come to despise Parvati Patil over the years, especially after Draco had proposed to her- AFTER she had been proposed to by someone else, no less! She was bubbly and annoying, and Daphne wouldn't be surprised if the pink sparkles that made up her wardrobe were all that made up her brain, too. What Draco saw in her, she'd never know.

George snorted. "That git? You must be joking. Slimy thing. Why anyone in their right mind would want to marry him is far beyond me. though I suppose most of you purebloods aren't quite in your right mind, so there you go..." Hm. It was time for another drink. "Parvati was a much smarter person before she got mixed up in all of that pureblood nonsense..."

"Don't be stupid," she retorted. "Draco is intelligent, rich, good-looking, of excellent lineage, and well-mannered. He's ambitious, and thoughtful, and he's going to make a name for himself rather than relying on his family's. That says something, I'd say." She hardly resisted a sneer at his compliment to the hag who had managed to somehow fool Draco into marrying her.

"But I find it interesting how you refer to purebloods as though you aren't one of them, Fr- Geor- Weasley. Have you no concern with preserving your family's bloodline?"

"That's a load of shit, is what I'd say," George snorted. "Merlin, what sort of charm does that boy have on him to make otherwise intelligent girls fall head over heels for his slimy ass?"

"I'm George," He informed her, snorting again. "And having "pure blood" is one thing, bu being part of your little pureblood class is quite another. I'm not sure the Wizarding world could handle another batch of Weasley children, to be perfectly honest."

Daphne quirked a brow at him. "If I didn't know better, Weasley, I'd say you were jealous of him." And why shouldn't he be? But she would love to hear him admit it, jealous of his worst enemy.

"Well, George, you've had the opportunity to become a part of it and have rejected it. Who's to say you couldn't turn things around if you happened upon an advantageous marriage? Actually, your shop must have earned you some financial gain by now. You could find someone of fairly decent standing to wed and work your way up. Although your... affiliations could be a bit of a problem, I suppose."
