Who: Hermione Granger and Pansy Parkinson
What: Hermione researching on various things for the DA.
Where: Ministry, where files are stored.
When: Afternoon.

Hermione skimmed her fingers across the tabs of the folders on the shelves, looking for any that could help provide her further enlightenment. She was trying to find as much information as possible on the Renegades, suspected members, known Death Eaters on the run and anything else she might find that could be useful.

Finally she found a rather interesting file on a list of Death Eaters noted during the First War. Not notice anyone around or any hearing anyone approach, Hermione became totally engrossed in the names and which she recognized. "This could be very useful..." She said to herself as she scanned the list.

Upon hearing the voice behind her Hermione paused and turned around. "Hello, Pansy." She closed the file and held it tightly. "Yes, it is very interesting. I can't help but be intrigued, what with everything going on lately. And since I work with Law Enforcement I try to know as much as possible."

Hermione cleared her throat, trying to sound as pleasant as possible. "And what is it that you've got?"

Pansy quirked a brow. "I'm not sure how former Death Eaters from the first war might assist you, seeing as almost all of them have passed. Perhaps you should try a more updated list? But I do have to agree, the events as of late are greatly intriguing."

She looked down at the file she had in her own arms. "Reports on those who were under investigation at the ministry but fled to other countries." She failed to say what they were for considering she found it no one else's business what went on in that department.

Of course, the sleeping Slytherin inside of her stored away the information that Hermione was looking for in case it ever proved useful, but for now it was pushed to the back of her mind.

She began browsing through the files again, speaking offhandedly to the other girl.

"Just a warning, don't go to the break room. Some arse charmed the coffee pot to attack passersby with hot steam. Between the third degree burns and coffee spills, it is slightly a mess."

"Yes, well, it never hurts to know. And history is what we build from to move forward." Hermione brushed a few stray curls out of her eyes. "Recent events are a good example of how we tend to work in patterns, though in this case it is unfortunate and I hope the path people have taken in the past is not repeated."

Her eyes glanced at the file in Pansy's hands, before Hermione turned back to the shelves. A mild uncomfortable feeling gradually increased as the two stood there, going through files.

"Honestly, the things that people do." Hermione shook her head slightly. "Thank you for the warning, though."

"Or perhaps focusing on the past clouds your vision from seeing what is happening now. Just a thought." She continued thumbing through the files, pulling those that might be of use to her boss.

"No problem," she responded.

Hermione paused, eyes narrowing slightly, though she didn't move to look at Pansy. "Perhaps I've decided to sort through information starting from past events and moving forward." She remarked in a flat tone, eyes on another file she pulled from the shelf. "Being knowledgeable about the past can come quite in handy sometimes, though it certainly won't stop me from keeping up with the more recent happenings."

Noting the witch's flat tone, Pansy said, "No need to be unfriendly, Miss Granger. I was merely offering my opinion. I want, just as much as you or anyone else, to get to the bottom of recent events. I have my son to worry about now and I certainly don't want anything out there that may endanger his safety."

With that, she moved on down the row and began pulling more files.

"How is your son?" Hermione asked as she came upon a file of numerous revised copies, up to recent years, of Death Eater lists and pureblood families who were thought to have some level of involvement. "Liam, isn't it?" Hermione asked, some actual curiosity and concern spilling into her voice. She had actually heard nothing but good things about Pansy as a mother. Especially since Pansy was a single parent, Hermione could only imagine how much work Pansy did between work and raising a child and had to respect the other girl for it, despite any dislike between the two.

Liam was her weakness. She knew that. So when Hermione asked about him, she felt herself soften slightly while trying to stay on her guard. "Yes, Liam. He's well. Growing up far too fast for my liking, though." She smiled. It was hard not too smile when she thought about the one thing in her life she would never regret.
