Tracey!
Who: Terry Boot and Tracey Davis
What: Terry promised he'd take Tracey dancing, and he's a man of his word.
When: First night of Terry's trip to Scotland.
Where: Not Scotland. Back in London, where Terry shouldn't be.
Status: Incomplete.

"Fifteen minutes." Terry declared to no one as he looked at his watch. Fifteen minutes until he was suppose to pick up Tracey. How in the name of Merlin had he gotten himself into this again? How had she so easily and quickly manipulated him into coming back from Scotland for the night to take her dancing?

Oh, that's right. She'd not only said he wasn't a gentleman, but she also brought up the fact that he had been the one to suggest they should go dancing. Though he wasn't so sure it was a good idea now, he stuck to what he said. Not to mention he didn't like it when people said he wasn't a gentleman, that just brought out a determination to prove himself to others.

Terry looked at himself in the mirror of his room. The place they were going wasn't too upscale, not enough so you had to go full out ballroom attire, but nice enough where you had to get dressed up a little. Deciding if he paced around any longer he'd run a hole in the floor, he grabbed his suit jacket and his wallet, told the innkeeper he'd be back late and was off.

A small 'pop' brought him to the street Tracey was staying on and after a few minutes he found her place. Terry knocked on the door and checked his watch: right on time.

"Oh, come on!" Tracey complained. "Isn't a gentleman supposed to provide the drinks?"

She pouted, but his question -- and the tone of his voice -- had her looking at him oddly. "Do you expect me to sleep with you afterwards?"

"Maybe I need to become less of a gentleman, the way it's going for me tonight." He joked. "But I suppose I can manage it."

If Terry had already gotten drinks, he'd be choking on his at her question. "Wha- No." He paused and cleared his throat. "I don't want to insult you or anything. What I meant was...this is just us, two people, dancing, right? No attachments, nothing happening?"

"No, because 'It wouldn't be right to do this to Aidan'," Tracey said, mocking his reply to her original request for him to take her dancing. "You really ought to be less of a gentleman," she told him as she retook her seat. "You'd have a lot more fun that way."

Terry paused. "No, it wouldn't be right." He sat down next to her. "Besides, I don't think we'd be a very good pair. Least not romantically. I think you'd take advantage of my gentlemanliness." An eyebrow raised. "I have fun. And if I wasn't such a gentleman I wouldn't have taken you dancing, and I'm having fun now."

"Nothing wrong with taking advantage of your gentlemanliness," Tracey told him, turning slightly in her seat to face him. "After all, if I hadn't taken advantage of your gentlemanliness, we wouldn't be here and having fun. So it's my manipulation we have to thank for that, not you being a gentleman." She grinned at him, proud of her logic. "Now buy me a drink. I want a sour apple martini, vermouth not gin, and a dash of lime. This much." She showed him by marking off the amount on her little finger.

"But you have to thank you gentlemanliness for being there for you to manipulate." Terry replied, giving her a grin in return. "I'll be right back." He gave her a knowing look before going off and returning shortly with drinks for the two of them, the martini for her and a beer for himself. "Here you go, how's that?" He sat down and took a drink from his beer.

Tracey took an experimental sip from her martini, then made a so-so face. "It's all right," she said reluctantly. "Not enough lime. No one ever does it right. Except for this one bartender in Greece. Didn't speak a word of English, but oh, he did marvelous things with his hands."

"Never satisfied, are you?" Terry joking asked. This girl knew exactly what she wanted, and if she didn't get it he could tell there would be hell to pay. "You got drinks from him a lot this bartender?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.

Tracey shrugged, and something in her smile suggested that she got a lot more from him. "For a little while. Then I found a better club so I went there instead. The bartender wasn't as good, though. They're hard to find, these good bartenders."

Terry gave Tracey a skeptical look. He could only imagine how friendly she became with the bartender. "I don't have much preference, though the things I drink are so specific." He leaned back in his chair and raised an eyebrow. "Are we dancing again?"

"Yes!" Tracey fanned herself to cool down a bit, and then finished off her drink in one long go. When she set her glass down, her eyes were sparkling. "Come on," she said, getting to her feet and holding out her hand to him. "Again."

Terry gave a small laugh as he put his drink down and grabbed her extended hand. "You really love dancing, don't you?" He led her to the dance floor. "What else do you do for fun? Besides dancing and..." He thought of proper wording. "And meeting new people every day?"

"Shopping!" Tracey chirped, as he drew her into his arms out on the dance floor. "I love shopping. And drinking. I like that, too. Oh, and travelling, although I'm really sick of that now."

"Shopping, drinking, and traveling." Terry repeated as they found the beat of the music, a small smile on his face. "I can agree with you on two of the three at least. I'm not so big on shopping, but I love drinking and traveling, most of the time. You can only enjoy it so much, especially when it's part of your job." He remembered that he was actually suppose to be in Scotland and laughed. "Like the trip I'm suppose to be on."

"You're having so much more fun here," Tracey said dismissively. It wasn't even a question or an attempt to fish for a compliment; it was fairly cut and dry for her. Dancing with her was fun; being stuck in a hotel by himself in Scotland was not. "But even travelling as part of a job is still a job. Your time's not your own, and you can be sent to horribly boring places. Like Scotland."

"Because I don't know anyone in Scotland." Terry remarked back. "And true, but it makes my time here much for flexible, and I do have some time to wander around everywhere I go." He raised an eyebrow. "I don't think Scotland is boring. I just think time is just better spent in good company rather than by yourself."

"If a place isn't fun when you don't know anyone to begin with, then it's boring," Tracey stated. She had no problems keeping with a conversation and the music at the same time. "If you can't go out and meet people who're good company, then it's boring."
