Tracey!
Who: Terry Boot and Tracey Davis
What: Terry promised he'd take Tracey dancing, and he's a man of his word.
When: First night of Terry's trip to Scotland.
Where: Not Scotland. Back in London, where Terry shouldn't be.
Status: Incomplete.

"Fifteen minutes." Terry declared to no one as he looked at his watch. Fifteen minutes until he was suppose to pick up Tracey. How in the name of Merlin had he gotten himself into this again? How had she so easily and quickly manipulated him into coming back from Scotland for the night to take her dancing?

Oh, that's right. She'd not only said he wasn't a gentleman, but she also brought up the fact that he had been the one to suggest they should go dancing. Though he wasn't so sure it was a good idea now, he stuck to what he said. Not to mention he didn't like it when people said he wasn't a gentleman, that just brought out a determination to prove himself to others.

Terry looked at himself in the mirror of his room. The place they were going wasn't too upscale, not enough so you had to go full out ballroom attire, but nice enough where you had to get dressed up a little. Deciding if he paced around any longer he'd run a hole in the floor, he grabbed his suit jacket and his wallet, told the innkeeper he'd be back late and was off.

A small 'pop' brought him to the street Tracey was staying on and after a few minutes he found her place. Terry knocked on the door and checked his watch: right on time.

The door was flung open by a wild-eyed Tracey. "You're early!" she accused, even though he was right on time.

She still wasn't ready: she was wearing a tea-length confection of such a dark shade that it looked nearly black until a certain angle of light revealed it to be a deep shade of indigo - and she was nearly falling out of it, because she hadn't buttoned up the back. Her hair and make up had been done, though, to evoke a 40s style look. She gestured him inside and turned her back to him, hiking her bodice up and into place. "Do up my buttons," she ordered.

Terry opened his mouth, looked back at his watch and gave a look of confusion. "What?-- We said two hours, right?"

He noticed how nice she looked, and on a glance head to toe realized her dress wasn't fully on. He hesitated and had to force himself to keep focused. Suddenly hearing her order him to do up the back of her dress, he took a few steps forward. "Have you ever thought of asking instead of ordering people around?" Terry asked as he started doing her button. "It wouldn't hurt, you know."

"Asking's just a longer way of saying the same thing," Tracey said dismissively. She quieted down for a while, because although the skirt of her dress flared out slightly, her bodice was tight enough that she had to hold her breath while Terry buttoned her into it. Once that was done, she turned around to give him a dazzling smile. "Wonderful. Now, do you think I should wear the diamond earrings or the sapphire earrings?" She went over to her jewellery box to show him the choices.

Terry rolled his eyes slightly at her answer. "All the same, people usually respect or like you more if you're nice and ask. It's the principle of the thing." Then when she turned around his eyebrows rose; that dress fit her. Really. Well. "You look really...nice." Terry cleared his throat and looked at the earrings for a moment and straightened his jacket. "Diamond."

His admiration didn't go unnoticed by Tracey, who smiled with mischievous triumph before she put her sapphire earrings back in her jewellery box and put on the dangling diamonds. "There," she announced, twirling around in place so he could get the full benefit of the completed look and the swirliness of her skirt. "What do you think? And don't just say 'nice', because I haven't spent two hours on this just to look 'nice'."

The ends of his mouth twitched into a smile, which Terry gave into. He noted the skirt, along with the rest of her when she twirled, and again had to keep himself in check. There would probably be a lot of that going on, but it couldn't hurt to relax and have a nice night, right? "I think you look gorgeous." The smile stayed as Terry decided that worrying would just make the night horrible; one night of dancing wasn't going to harm anyone. "Do you need a coat, or are we set to go?"

Tracey's smile brightened. She loved compliments, especially when she'd managed to coax it out of someone who might otherwise be reluctant to offer it. The sweetness of victory only added to it. "I'll get my cloak," she said, flicking her wand to summon it - not to her, but to him. She turned around again, expecting him to help her with it.

When the cloak came to him instead of her, Terry almost considered telling her she should ask him to help her with it. But, being the gentleman (and sucker) that he was, mostly since he was taking her out, he simply sighed and and put it on her. "There you are." He said, a knowing tone in his voice. She probably knew he'd just help her instead of making a fuss.

Out of pure habit, because it's was usually came next at times like these, Terry offered her his arm. "Anything else?"

That was exactly what she'd been counting on -- it was how she'd been able to get him to take her dancing in the first place -- and Tracey smiled back at him without any shame whatsoever. "Nope," she said cheerfully, tucking her around through his and giving him a charming smile. "Let's go."

Terry returned the smile, still trying to keep himself in check. "Alright then." After a moment, pop, they were gone.

And then there they were, outside of the dance club. It had a bar and a few small foods, but it wasn't really the place to go if you wanted to eat. The lights were on and music with fantastic rhythm could be heard. People were going in and leaving, the place was definitely alive that night. They walked over to the door, and Terry held it open. "Ladies first."

There weren't a lot of people who'd call Tracey Davis a lady, she smiled with inward amusement before nodding her head graciously at him and stepping in. Upon seeing the restored ballroom and the people dancing in it, Tracey smiled with genuine pleasure, her body already swaying to the music. "This is so fun!" she exclaimed. "Is it new? I don't think I've ever been here before."

Terry followed her in; the impression he'd gotten outside was right on. It was definitely a good night to go dancing. He smiled at her. "Yeah, it's always proves for a fun night. I come around every once in a while- it's really how I learned to dance. They fixed it all up about 5 months ago. I'm actually a little surprised you've never been before. I'm positive you'll like it though."

"Let's find a table." He motioned with his head and, without realizing it, grabbed her hand. It took a couple of minutes to find a free table, and once they found one Terry helped her with her cloak and took off his suit jacket. He was ready to dance. "C'mon, this music is too good to stand around."

"Well, I just got back," Tracey reminded him. "This wasn't around five years ago, but I'm glad it's here now." She went willingly with him to the table, and as soon as they were settled, she was only too happy to go out onto the dance floor with him. "Let's!" she said with a laugh. This time, she was the one who grabbed his hand and tugged him out to the dance floor.

She loved dancing. There was just something in the way that the music got into her head and her blood and made her move of her own accord. When she focused on the cheerful music, she didn't have to think about anything else - not her dead mother, not her imprisoned brother or her uncaring sister, not even inappropriate Irishmen who annoyed yet attracted her. And she danced well, too: she may not be able to sing or draw or play any musical instrument, but Tracey Davis was an extremely adept dancer.

"Touche." He'd forgotten she hadn't been in London. "Are you going to be staying in London for good now? Since you're back?"

He followed her lead to the dance floor and before he knew it, Terry was totally relaxed, more than he'd been in a while. Not to mention Tracey was a fantastic dancer. "You're a great dancer," He commented as he twirled her around and caught her.

"Oh, I don't know," Tracey said carelessly. "Depends on whether there's anything to stay for. It gets so boring to be in one place all the time, doesn't it?" In truth, whether Tracey stayed depended on whether her sister would allow her. If Charlotte decided that she didn't want Tracey around to embarrass her again, it wouldn't matter if Tracey wanted to stay or not.

But she didn't want to think too much about that. Following his lead with a laugh, she said, "I love to dance. It's like you can be someone else and feel whatever the music tells you to."

Terry shrugged. "Well, I travel a lot for work so I can't give a totally unbiased opinion. I always like to come back, though, for friends. To just be home." He considered it for a moment. "I'm sure you've got something to stay for, whether you realize it or not." He wasn't totally sure what he meant, but he knew Tracey was a detached person so there was probably something she wasn't ackowledging.

"It's true, it's a completely different world, almost." It'd been a while since Terry's been dancing, but he remembered how much he enjoyed it. There wasn't pressure in an enviornment like this. You just danced, and no one could force you to stop. "Dancing does what words can't."

"Oh yes, you work," Tracey said, much in the same tone as one would say, "Oh yes, you have that horrible boil on your bottom." It didn't deter her from enjoying the dance, though, and she let him twirl her around some more with no apparent sign of dizziness.

"So," she said as he brought her back into closed position, "what do you want dancing to do that words can't?"

Terry tilted his head. "I actually enjoy my work, I get to travel and see the world." He gave a small shrug.

When she got close to him, Terry smelled her perfume, the same she was wearing when he first saw her. He looked at her; somehow the affect she had on him was gone. Tracey was still beautiful, and she could probably make his heart race like she had before, but he suddenly felt like he could just talk to her. "Actions speak louder than words. Dancing is one of those things where you can really show how you feel. In just a simple thing you can show more affection than by saying a thousand words." Yes, Terry was a romantic and not afraid to show it.

Evidently Tracey felt the same, because she chuckled as she swayed in his arms. "How positively romantic," she declared, though there was an edge of cynicism in her voice. "I didn't think people like that actually existed out of fairy tales." If they did, she might be a little happier. But then again, princes got together with princesses, not well-used slags, so maybe it'd make no difference to her whatsoever.

Terry smiled at her response, despite the hint of cynicism in her voice. "There's at least one, then." He pulled her close and moved into a dip. "I don't think there's anything wrong with being romantic. It gives a person hope." He pulled her back up and then they were turning with the music again. "Don't you believe in romance? At all?"

"I believe that people believe in it," Tracey said with a shrug - or as much of a shrug as she could without breaking her frame. "It's the same with love - most people are in love with the idea of love, not with their partner, and then they're terribly disappointed when it doesn't turn out perfect."

"There are people who love more than the idea of; I mean, there isn't much to the idea without someone to share it with, right?" Terry replied, furrowing his brow a little. "But the good thing about love is the imperfections; if everyone was perfect things would be a bit boring, wouldn't they? What's a relationship if everyone just agreed all the time?"

"I'm not saying I want perfection, although I'll take it if it exists," Tracey said carelessly. "But a lot of people do, don't you think? They'd rather fight and break up than try to live with the fact that their supposed loved one isn't some dragon-slaying prince or innocent princess in a tower."

"Why wouldn't they just want to be happy instead of striving for some person who doesn't exist?" Terry shook his head. "Besides, isn't the typical trapped damsel or sword wielding prince a bit boring?"

"I dunno," Tracey said with another shrug. "You ask them. I don't even want a relationship at all." She gave him a sparkling smile as the music came to an end. "Just fun. So much easier."
