Rodolphus Lestrange ([info]strangeroddy) wrote in [info]veritaserum_rp,

Who: Rodolphus Lestrange, Adrian Pucey, Mafalda Hopkirk
When: Aug 25th 2003
Where: Renegades HQ some random cottage in Northern England
What: TBD.

After the Ministry raid on the previous cottage, Rodolphus had immediately retrieved another Headquarters for his followers. This wasn't the place where the elder Deatheaters resided (That was somewhere secret, known only to them) but rather an area to gather, for younger deatheaters to receive their missions, for meetings, for punishments, and of course for naps if someone ever really did need one.

Rodolphus rarely spent time in this place. He would swoop in and out on occasion, his presence usually meaning that one of the deatheaters was soon to feel a lot of pain.

Tonight, however, Rodolphus was nostalgic. Nostalgic for the days when he, Lucius and the rest would spend their nights drinking and smoking cigars, swapping stories both evil and other. And after a few days of tormenting many a witch and wizard, Rodolphus was in the mood for conversation. Preferably with a female - his flirtasion with Padma Patil had whet his appetite.

Adrian was indeed napping. It wasn't that he didn't have his own place, rather he was keeping his head low after the altercation with Warrington over the return of the other wizard's wife. Yes, better to lay low.

The cottage had been deserted when Adrian arrived, two bottles of wine and a bag of sandwiches under his arm. No doubt most of the Renegades were enjoying a little time off after a rather successful kidnapping spree. He tended the fire place, uncorked a bottle and demolished a few sandwiches, enjoying the peace and quiet. Then he'd sprawled out on one of the overstuffed sofas, boots tucked neatly to the side, and drifted off.

Walking into the deserted cottage, Rodolphus' eyebrow raised as he found Adrian asleep on the sofa. Something akin to amusement spread across his eyes before his wand was lifted, tilting the sofa over - Adrian dropping on the floor violently, the sofa landing on top of him.

"Having a nice rest?" He called out as he strode forward, his voice echoing about the room.

Adrian got a little lucky and was roused from his sleep to the sound of footsteps in the cottage. The rest of the waking process was accomplished when he hit the hard stone floor with an 'oopmh!', the sofa following suit.

"I was," Adrian grumbled into the cushions sinking down around him. He shoved up and pushed the surprisingly heavy sofa off to the side and blinked stupidly up at Rodolphus.

"What are you doing here?" Adrian winced at the bluntness of his own question and hoped it came out more as curiosity than interrogation.

"You need to learn to keep your curiousity in check." He responded coolly. While Rodolphus had a raging temper and arrogant attitude, he knew to keep his mouth shut when faced with a greater power. Bellatrix had had to learn that lesson the hard way.

"If I am here for what I'm usually here for, you aren't about to be a very happy boy. Stand up!" He barked, flicking his wand as if he was indeed here to punish Adrian for some random indiscretion.

"I'll have a glass." Rodolphus remarked after a tense moment, glancing over to the wine, a sparkle of amusement in his eyes as he sat down.

Adrian breathed a sigh of relief when no spell came and he bent down to pick up his wand which had gotten dislodged during the sofa incident. He tucked it in his robes.

"Yes, sir, it will not happen again."

Working for Rodolphus was torture in itself. Shaking his head slightly in confusion, Adrian ducked into the kitchen and grabbed another glass from the cupboard, then poured more of the pinot noir. He set it down in front of Rodolphus and then stood awkwardly.

"Is there something I can take care of, sir?"

Deep, deep, deep down, Rodolphus had to admit that out of the younger deatheaters, Adrian was his favourite. Obedient and talented, his only flaws were his sometimes disrespectful curiousity and his wild temper. The latter however, Rodolphus was confident he could refine from a hot temper to a colder, more violent one much like his own.

Taking the glass, he gave Adrian a grin, "You can have a glass of your own. Perhaps regale me with your field stories."

Now Adrian was beginning to worry this was some sort of test. He carefully picked the wine bottle back up, poured an extra full glass and then resumed his seat on the sofa, although he kept his back straight just in case. He took a quick swig and then reflected on his past few weeks.

"Well, I think we did very well. Most of the kidnappings were very easy." He took another drink and considered. "Warrington put up a good fight when I returned his wife. He would make a good addition if we could get him. Although even kidnapping his wife didn't seem to scare him in our direction."

Twirling his wand absent mindedly with his left hand, Rodolphus sipped at the wine as he listened to Adrian's chatter. "Yes, I heard about that. If you believe they may attack you, then you should spell them down immediately, friend or not." There was a note of severe criticism in his voice, but it quickly vanished, "I agree, he would be a decent addition. Though I'm unsure if his ideals remain within the appropriate realm. Does he believe in the worth of blood?"

Adrian automatically nodded at the older wizard's advice but made no mental note. His bizarre brand of loyalty would be difficult if not impossible to destroy.

"Warrington did value blood at Hogwarts but perhaps not with the same tenacity as some of us." He bit back his tongue, not daring to criticize Rodolphus' methods any further. It was no secret Adrian had been unhappy with the choices for the kidnappings as he always preferred bribery to threats.

Rodolphus had a notion over what Adrian was thinking. He wasn't foolish like Voldemort had been - he was well aware that friendships and relationships had great influence over a person's mind, and a disregard for that could lead to dissatisfaction.

"You are aware that if you continue to do well, then you will be granted the ability to provide protection for a few that you wish." The offer was a tentative one, as Adrian could never oppose one of Rodolphus' main targets. Regardless, it was something. Rodolphus was in a strangely good mood this evening.

Mafalda was about to take full advantage of that good mood. She wasn't in a very good one herself as she entered the cottage; but then she rarely was. She'd been been informed that Rodolphus was on his way there, though, and was pleased to see him as she entered the building. Adrian wasn't a bad addition, either. Quickly remembering her place, she lowered her eyes and bowed her head to Rodolphus as she moved further into the cottage. "Hello, Rodolphus."

It irked Adrian immensely that some of the older Renegades could get along okay referring to Rodolphus by his first name. Not because he was jealous of their privilege but rather because he thought it was insulting to the other wizard's power. If he were in charge, there would be none of that.

Then again he wasn't certain how he felt about Mafalda anyway. He was certainly jealous of her power. But she was hot, no doubt, and the way she looked at Rodolphus seemed more than a little suggestive.

Finding himself suddenly hot under his collar, Adrian coughed to clear his throat and busied himself with pouring another glass of wine. He looked at Mafalda. "Can I get you a glass?"

Acknowledging Mafalda's bow and entrance, Rodolphus looked barely interested as she made her way into the room. He was in conversation with Adrian, and didn't plan to pause for anyone.

"On the topic of endeavours, Adrian, what are your thoughts on the slightly more hysterical sister, Padma Patil?"

Adrian lowered the bottle and returned his attention to Rodolphus. "Padma? I'm afraid I'm not as familiar with her as I am with the Malfoy bride. Bookish girl, intelligent, but dull. She cracked the squib potion didn't she? You could do wonderful things with a little Imperio." He grinned, but backed off the topic. "I'm pretty damn certain she doesn't honor her own pureblooded line though, if that's what you mean."

Mafalda opened her mouth to respond to Adrian, but closed it again quickly when Rodolphus began to speak. She instead shook her head slightly and moved over to sit on the opposite end of the couch from Adrian. She knew better than to interrupt whatever conversation he and Rodolphus were having. Instead she contented herself to sit quietly and listen. Padma Patil? She'd been the one, along with Granger, who'd figured out their potion. And she was pretty, too. She decided she didn't like her.

"Hm. Interesting." A wolfish grin spread Rodolphus' face as Adrian mentioned Imperius. It was the sort of bond formed between men when they were being animals. "Yes, I had a conversation with her the other day. Beautiful little thing. Could be interesting." He hummed low in his throat, "I don't wish to hurt her though, too much family wrapped up in it - perhaps eventually willing though, she can't be too off her sister's mindframe to be that much of a rebel to the blood"

Adrian mirrored the grin. It was the sort of behavior he thought the Renegades should engage in on a far more consistent basis. Mafalda could even have her fun, who was he to judge? Rodolphus seemed lost in his own musings though so Adrian decided not to respond. He sipped instead at his glass of wine and glanced at Mafalda, waiting for some indication of what was going on. Or had Mafalda showed merely coincidentally?

Mafalda barely hid her scowl when Rodolphus referred to Padma as beautiful. She was pretty, yes, but she wouldn't go as far as to say she was beautiful...

Feeling eyes on her, she glanced over at Adrian and offered him a faint smile. Of course she'd followed Rodolphus there... They didn't need to know that, though. Well, since Rodolphus seemed lost in thought... "I'll take a glass of that wine, if you're still offering."

Glancing back at Rodolphus, she frowned again. Was he still thinking about that girl? "I highly doubt she would be willing... she is, after all, the one who helped Granger discover out potion and help to reverse it."

Dark eyed slid almost irritably over to Mafalda, and Rodolphus was silent a moment before speaking, "Did I ask your opinion, Mafalda?"

"I'd rather think between Adrian and myself that we could sway her." Huh. It looked almost as if Adrian was in luck, Rodolphus was referring to them as a pair of comrades, "Afterall, I can sway you anytime I want, are you saying you're weaker than the little Ravenclaw? Pity. I'd guessed, but here it is in the open."

Rodolphus was ice cold.

Mafalda's eyes narrowed. She was a proud woman, and Rodolphus was one of the very few people she would stand to be insulted by; and even then, sometimes it was a struggle to keep herself in line.

"It's because I respect you so that I'm so easily swayed by you, Rodolphus," she did her best not to smirk as she looked back at him. She knew she'd be punished for her comments, but... she was pretty sure she could handle it. "It might be a little harder to work your charm on someone who doesn't have the admiration for you that I do."

Rodolphus eyed the woman with a bland expression. Sometimes, Mafalda reminded him a bit of Bellatrix. Wouldn't that be an upsetting thing for her to hear? Though she differed in the way that she spoke to Rodolphus, her dark lord. Mafalda spoke to Rodolphus as a pureblood woman would often refer to her husband (slight respect and obedience) while Bellatrix had nothing but utmost respect for Voldemort.

"Apparently, you haven't learned to respect me enough." It was both a threat and an innuendo.

"Adrian, respect is learned, you see. You teach it. Young ravenclaws can be taught, as can older Slytherins." He stood, dark and towering, "Tell me, boy, do you think that I need to refresh Miss Hopkirk's lessons?"

It was an excruciating tactic to use, asking Adrian to perhaps speak against a witch who was his superior. Both parties would go away from this feeling awkward. Yet, it was an useful tactic to remind them that the other levels of heirarchy were nothing when compared to the one, main power.

As he spoke, Rodolphus' eyes met Mafalda's, an unspoken challenge issued. Almost imperceptibly, his lips quirked into the smallest of a earnest smirk.

Adrian wasn't the brightest, but he was pretty fluent in reading body language. The best tactic would be to simply agree and bow out of the room, begging perhaps some errand. His eyes dropped to his wine glass, over to Mafalda, then to Rodolphus, and finally back to his wine glass.

"My Lord, I believe we can all benefit from your wisdom and teachings in any matter."

Alright, it was lame, but respectful nonetheless. He bowed his head slightly and considered his wine glass once more.

Mafalda sat perfectly still as Rodolphus rose to his feet, though her instinct was to shrink away from the towering form of the man before her. Her eyes met his and, her jaw set firmly, she accepted his challenge. Interesting, though, the way he was asking Adrian to make the decision whether she was to be punished or not.

She wasn't surprised by the boy's reply; it was the unquestioning ass-kissing she'd come to expect from him whenever he was speaking of or to Rodolphus. If anyone was to be compared to Bellatrix, she thought it should be him.

"Letting little boys make your decisions for you? I must say I'm surprised. Perhaps by respect has been misplaced..."

"Boys can't ever learn until they get their feet wet." Rodolphus returned back, though no longer did his features hold that bland, stony expression. Instead, his eyes were begin to spark with the beginnings of a blaze.

"In fact," He twirled his wand, tapping his chin in a mockery of thought, "I think I can teach two lessons today. Seeing as I've let this little boy make my decision and gotten his feet wet in the process, why don't I let him go all the way in and begin the lesson for me."

He turned toward Adrian and smiled eerily, "When faced with insubordination, punishment must be swift." Rodolphus sounded as if he was giving a lecture at Hogwarts, "Whether it is from a subject or from a wife or consort. Though in the latter case, remember to not be too rough, afterall, they are -" He glanced at Mafalda, "the weaker sex."

"Here you are asked to begin a punishment on my behalf, to a superior nonetheless. What is the spell you will use to open?" A cocked eyebrow indicated that he wished Adrian to act, and act quickly.

"My lord?" He faltered, and his eyes darted back to Mafalda. He was briefly reminded of a piece of mythology: Aphrodite and her beauty, or Hera and her power?

Adrian was in over his head. He could do anything to a mudblood, or a muggle, on order. But to a woman? They weren't to be treated like that. He reached into his pocket and drew out his wand, although pointed it lamely at the floor. What if he just apparated out? No, not an answer.

"My lord, were I to open with a spell I suppose a Crucio would put any subordinate in their place."

Mafalda wasn't surprised by Rodolphus' decision, but she was intrigued. Would Adrian actually do it? Her eyes flitted over to the boy and she watched him carefully. She could tell he was struggling with whatever morals he might have and his desire to impress Rodolphus. Which would win?

She took a deep breath when the boy mentioned a Crucio. If that's what was going to happen, she was almost glad Adrian was doing it instead of Rodolphus. The last time the older man had hit her with one it had been an hour before she could properly walk again. she doubted Adrian's would be as effective.

Rodolphus was by no means impressed by Adrian. He was well aware of his protege's moral compass, but wasn't about to let him think that he could side with his morals during an important decision.

"Adrian." His voice was like a whip, snapping across the air to lash at the younger man. "What are you waiting for? Do you wish to insult Mafalda? Do you think she is a fragile blossom that will shrivel and die? Or, do you wish to insult me and not listen to a direct order."

There was a side glance at the woman which bonded them momentarily. Almost as if they were two parent birds waiting to see if their baby bird would take the leap and fly.....except....in a much more twisted manner. Mafalda was a new deatheater, but she had proven herself to Rodolphus, hence her position far above the younger recruits.

For once Adrian didn't wince. Fine. He was tired of this shit, whatever it was, test or torture. He took a drink of his wine to fortify his nerves, then calmly placed the glass on the table. From Mafalda's smirk it was evident she thought very little of Adrian's prowess, amusing considering he'd done much of the heavy lifting during the kidnappings. His eyes narrowed, he raised his wand and pointed it straight at the witch.

"Imperio," he said calmly, eyes fixed straight on Mafalda. He said it with total confidence, his voice strong and unafraid.

Hell, he might as well go for his forte.

The corner of Mafalda's lips quirked into a very small smirk when Rodolphus glanced at her. She was almost hoping the boy would wimp out so she could see Rodolphus punish him. Alas, Adrian managed to dredge up some balls and curse her, though not with the one she was expecting.

Her body had tensed at the expectation of being hit with a Crucio, but all that tension quickly drained out of her when he used the Imperius instead. Her face relaxed and her eyes lost their focus, staring blankly ahead of her as she sank into a trance-like state.

Adrian sort of wasn't listening to Rodolphus. Yes, most of his concentration was on holding Mafalda under the curse, but now Adrian was in charge. His eyes went a little glossy with the sheer weight of the magic and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. There wasn't quite any other feeling like having complete power over another person. It was one thing to have underlings, but to actually subject someone to complete mind control was almost...arousing.

He felt around for the empty wine bottle with one hand and, upon grasping the neck firmly, he smashed it against the side of the sofa. It broke and he held out the sharpened glass to Mafalda.

"Take this," he commanded. He did not turn to Rodolphus but he was certain to make his comment clear. "Shall I have her kill herself? Or shall I have her die trying to kill you?"

So. Once the boy felt power, he was no longer as weak. Interesting. Rodolphus would have to test this.

Despite himself, there was small pride toward Adrian for this act. For someone who had reservations, to choose a more visually violent act than a simple cruciatus was interesting. Bella had always appreciated using blades.

"She is not to kill herself," Rodolphus chided Adrian like a father would do to a toddler who ate too many cookies, "A good try - but under Imperius she will barely feel the wounds she may make."

He walked a small circle around the two, "Imperius feels good, doesn't it? The heavyness of the magic. Intoxicating. Best however, when using one person against another. You could salvage, cast the spell and draw back during the motion so she is aware but too late to stop herself. Tedious, however."

He wasn't providing much direction, simply education.

Adrian allowed the more pleasant bits of Rodolphus' commentary to swirl around him and he could feel his own hatred rising as he glared at Mafalda. Cut up her pretty face. Scar herself. A constant reminder that Adrian was no boy.

But he quickly shook himself out of whatever it was he had sunk into and tried to consider the scene through fresh eyes. Somehow Rodolphus' comments had made little impact and he felt just the slightest bit irritated. He was decent with the curse and expected to be quite accomplished with just a few more long term casts.

He mumbled the counter-curse and dropped his wand arm. "I'm not a child, you know." He spoke to neither in particular. The magic plus his reaction tended to drain him no matter how slight the curse. Belatedly he wondered if Rodolphus would be angry Adrian had ended the curse prematurely, so he turned more formerly back to the Renegade lord and bowed his head slightly. "Is there to be anything else, my lord?"

Mafalda blinked as her eyes came back into focus and she was suddenly in control of herself again. She looked curiously at the bottle in her hand, then at Adrian. That was it? Yes, he'd cast a very nice Imperius, but he hadn't even really tested it had he? And it was hardly the punishment Rodolphus had been looking for, she was sure.

Frowning, she reached over and placed the broken glass on the table beside the couch. "Mm, well, I've certainly learned my lesson from all of this," she commented, sarcasm evident in her voice.

"I do hope you plan on cleaning that mess up," she nodded to Adrian, gesturing to the broken glass beside the couch.

Rodolphus shared a small smirk with Mafalda at her teasing, before turning to look down on the younger man. "Are you not?" The comment was harsh, "You are inexperienced in comparison to us, Adrian. Therefore, is that not what you are?"

"I'm attempting to teach you. If you listen then you will be great-" His eyes glowed with the promise, "But if you're to pout and whimper at the slighest criticism, then you will continue to remain that child."

"Crucio." His right-hand spell. Rodolphus' cruciatus' were almost crippling even when they had been lifted. Poor Adrian.

Rodolphus stared down unfeelingly at the boy, before beckoning Mafalda over. "He doesn't wish us to think of him as a boy, you know. So quick to grow up." He leaned down, fiercely kissing Mafalda.

"Were you thinking of marring her pretty face?" He asked Adrian before viciously backhanding Mafalda. "Why did you stop?"

His boots made heavy noise agains the floor as he moved over to Mafalda, "Crucio!" Her turn. Not lifting the spell, he looked over his shoulder to Adrian, "Imperius is fine for muggles and others, but not always good when you want them to feel the consequences of their actions."

Mafalda winced a bit when Adrian was hit with Rodolphus' Crucio. She knew from experience that it was painful, and she doubted the boy was as used to it as she was. She quickly let the concern slip from her mind, though, when she was called over to Rodolphus.

She moved to him quickly, pressing her body against his as she was kissed. The intensity of it took her breath away, and she took a deep breath when the man released her. Before she'd had time to properly recover she felt a stinging pain shoot through her cheek and the force behind his slap knocker her to the ground.

She managed to keep from crying out when she was slapped, but wasn't so lucky when he cast the cruciatus on her. A scream ripped itself from her throat as she collapsed onto the floor and began to writhe uncontrollably from the pain.

Adrian staggered backwards from the curse and hit the sofa, tumbling over the side. No time for humiliation however, when if felt as if your whole body was on fire.

He lay still for a moment after the curse subsided, watching Rodolphus turn maniacally onto Mafalda. The kiss irked him but the subsequent slap and curse pleased him. She may be older but she was no more above reproach than even the lowliest Renegades.

When the pain had subsided to a manageable level, Adrian clambered back to his feet rather robotically and stared blankly at Rodolphus, nodding at his suggestion. "Very effective, my lord," he said, his own memory kept alive by the soreness of his body and the fact that his left arm refused to move.

The point was, Adrian was little more than a lackey. Without direct orders he felt lost. And now this had been made abundantly clear.

Rodolphus' expression didn't flinch as he watched Mafalda writhe on the floor. His wand remained trained on her for slightly longer than he had on Adrian before he finally lifted it.

He closed his eyes for a moment, the sudden motion refreshing, before opening them once more. "Yes. You," He was referring to Adrian, but didn't bother to turn toward him, "have potential. I see that you unfortunately still have a lot to learn." A long pause, his wand flicked as he considered whether to curse Adrian once more, "No matter. We have time. Go. Sleep."

Rodolphus eyed the twitching form of the woman at his feet, "I'll continue without you. Won't that be fun, Mafalda?" His teeth glinted in the dim candlelight.

Adrian turned his blank look towards Mafalda and here his confidence faltered. Stay here? To what end? He cast a suspicious half-glance over at Rodolphus and fought the urge to question the decision. Somehow he knew whatever would occur would probably disappoint him.

"Very well."

He turned swiftly on his heel and exited the cottage, slamming the door behind him. He'd get that bitch back.

Mafalda gasped when the curse lifted, though it was only a tiny relief from the pain she was feeling. The effect of the curse still lingered, and she was only able to nod in response to Rodolphus' question. Being alone with Rodolphus was what she'd been hoping for when she arrived, hadn't it? She was beginning to rethink that urge, though, as she tried and failed to push herself up from the floor.

She winced a bit at the sound of the slamming door. Adrian had certainly left in a huff, hadn't he? Slowly pushing herself over onto her back, she took a deep breath before looking up at Rodolphus. "I think... he's upset."

Striding over to her so quickly she was sure to think he was to hit her, Rodolphus leaned down and hauled Mafalda to her feet none-too-gently before dropping her into a chair.

"He bristles at admonishment." Rodolphus drawled, "I'm too kind to him because I feel he has real potential. That will change."

"What also has to change is your behaviour." His dark eyes bore into her, "So out of line. Surely you don't wish for me to lock you in a closet for another day, do you?" He gave her a grin that was not all menace.

That had been his punishment for Bellatrix in the early years of their marriage, when she had been far too uppity (than befits a pureblood wife) in public. She had hated enclosed spaces, dearly. Yet, respected him more for that action. She had always been spitting and clawing like a cat (He still had a few scars to prove it) before, and docile and sweet afterwards, staring at him adoration. All this was before they had fully joined Voldemort and become partners. Insane wife. Yet no one had been a better fit for him.

Mafalda curled in on herself when he strode over, sure she was going to be hit, and cried out in surprise when she was pulled to her feet instead. She collapsed in the chair, trying to catch her breath.

"N-no, sir," She murmured, shaking her head quickly at the mention of being locked in a closet again. She didn't really have anything against enclosed spaces, but she still hadn't enjoyed being stuck in one very small, dark place for an entire day.

Rodolphus sat as well, eyeing the dark haired beauty as she timidly shied away from him. Tilting his head suddenly, he called her over to him, his expression now just the slightest bit font.

"There's my good girl." He touched the mark he had left on her face with some care, "Do you wish to talk of the children all night, or, if you can walk again, show me why exactly you followed me here?"

Mafalda rose with as much grace as she could muster, moving to sit beside the man. She tried not to wince as he touched her cheek.

"Whatever you wish to speak of, sir," she replied softly, gaze locked on her own lap. She'd be obedient for a while... at least until she got the feeling back in most of her limbs. She knew he wanted absolute obedience from her, but also knew he'd tired of her if he didn't get to put her in her place every now and then. Men were so predictable.

Laughing suddenly, Rodolphus grabbed the woman's chin, "I don't believe you came here to talk" He dropped his eyes to her body, still slightly shaking, "Perhaps the curse was a bit strong, you are still new. Pity-"

He kissed her throat quite softly, "As I too don't wish to speak. Although if you aren't up to it-" He stood, feigned leaving. It was almost playful.

Mafalda inhaled sharply, eyes slowly moving to look at the man's face. Well, no use pretending, she supposed. They both knew she wasn't there to talk. Her eyes closed when he kissed her throat, but opened again at his comment.

"I can handle anything you'd like to do to me, curses or otherwise," she said firmly, clutching her skirt tightly in her hands to stop them from shaking. She stared at him almost defiantly as he rose.

Rodolphus turned back to look at her, amusement apparent in his eyes. "Yet you will tremble after either." He cast a knowing glance toward her hands.

Her apparent fragility however, pleased him tonight and so he reached out and pulled her to feet. "Come." He gave her a feral wink, "I promise to be gentle."

And that night, the deatheater headquarter were filled with the screams of one of Rodolphus' Renegades that for once, were most certainly not out of pain. ;)
