Well, wasn't that just something special. Really, that whole bit back there in the barn? That was something special. It was the sort of thing that left the Doctor fuming. He was furious. Couldn't rightfully say who he was so angry with; but, he was pretty darn mad. He'd been walking for a while now, trainer-clad steps nearly pounding on the pavement as he tried to pick a direction. Before he knew it, the Doctor was at the thrift store where he changed his clothes. Out of that suit and into a pair of denims and a sweatshirt. He was soaked to the bone, after all. The trenchcoat for all of it's virtues was far from waterproof. So, he'd found a backpack and put his wet clothes into it before heading out again. Even his hair was smushed down and out of it's rebellious state by the opressive rain.

Deciding a break might be in his best interest, the Doctor slid up under the maquis of the theater trying to duck out of the intermittant rain. He could hide under there for a few minutes and try and root out the cause of his frustration. He hadn't lied. He hadn't done the wrong thing; yet, there he was kicking himself. Most of it was because he should have nipped this entire thing in the bud. He should have ignored Remy LeBeau from day one - then he wouldn't be in this ridiculous predicament. Then there was the trouble with Nine and Jack. Oh, that was enough to make him groan out loud, and that he did, pressing palm to forehead. With the rain keeping everyone in their right mind indoors the Doctor wasn't so worried about being found in this moment of vulnerability and annoyance. This whole thing had gone south so quickly and there was nothing that this Doctor liked less than a situation he didn't have absolute and complete control over. Fantastic.

Sliding down the wall he pulled those knees up and those red Chucks up closer squinting off in the direction of that damned post office. Stupid thing. Plucking out his journal he found that damned survey and started filling it out. It was more important to get reconnected with his fellow captives than be spiteful toward the people in charge of this place.

Her expression was bashful, but pleasant, and she hadn't stepped away. Why should she? There was a completely gorgeous bloke in front of her looking for all the world like she was perfect. What woman would turn away from that? "I think I'm sorry you have lost time to make up for," she admitted, giggling a little to herself.

Oh, the Doctor would likely be furious. Another stop, another man winning her over. Two, if one counted the cold-hearted man she'd found so charming only days earlier. Which Rose didn't intend to. Nope, Remy so did not count. She shouldn't count this one, either. But he was so warm, despite the chill of the rain dampening them both. She liked that warmth. If she were being honest with herself, she craved it.

Not that she had any urge to tell the Doctor about this just yet. Or ever. Jack...well, maybe. Only if it came up. She found she usually preferred gossiping about his life more than her own. But for the moment, she wanted to savor the feeling of John Smith's lips on hers all for herself. What she really wanted was Shareen, but that felt like a lifetime ago.

"Do we do an awful lot of that where you come from?" she asked playfully, peering up at him with amusement in her eyes. Oh, if they did she was looking forward to it.

"Don't you dare be," because what if he had said it? What if he hadn't assumed she knew? Where would they be then? What would they be doing? Would they have even wound up back on earth again? There were so many questions, so many points in time that fluxed with the thought. Oh, if he were an unscrupulous Time Lord...

She said there, giggling a little and looking like she'd been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. The Doctor looked much the same way - but his hearts were singing! He might not ever be able to say those words to her; but, he'd managed his kiss. He'd managed to keep his head level and hadn't said anything particularly stupid. And he knew in the end she'd still be so furious; but, he had this moment.

"Never," he shook his head. "Well.. once, but it was complicated. Extenuating circumstances..." His pose was mirroring her own as their stance turned very near to an embrace, with his hand trailing up and down from shoulder to elbow.

"I really ought to go... this is dangerous stuff," yet, he wasn't moving. Oops.

"Mmm. Right. Time and all." That and kissing strangers. Only to him, she wasn't a stranger. And he didn't really feel like a stranger to her, knowing her inside and out as he did. But there he'd never kissed her in his realm and had here. Something else to use to try and put the puzzle together. What made here different? Why kiss someone who practically thought you were a stranger instead of someone who was the best of friends? Fear of rejection? Oh, he shouldn't fear that one bit.

His hand was on her arm, now, rubbing lightly, and she was about ready to melt. There was something off, but she attributed it to him holding her the way he was, having just kissed her and all. Being all new to each other and stuff. Right. That was it.

"You know...future me? She was an idiot for not doing this more often. I'm just...you know, just saying." Was she babbling? Like a damned fool, she was. She sounded all of thirteen and on her first date. Refusing to let him run off just yet, she reached up, ruffling the damp but slowly drying ends of his hair. "There, that's better. You just don't look the same with the flat look."

"Right, time. Complicated stuff, that. It's like a line and a ball and a whole mish mash of stuff..." She, he was babbling, too. "That I'm really hoping I didn't just ruin." Oh, you knew you hadn't Time Lord. The entire universe would have come crashing down last night when you'd given so many spoilers away to Nine about what was to come. He knew things now that you certainly didn't know before. You didn't know you'd lose Rose. You didn't know you'd wind up here. You didn't know anything new. Apparently, this place was outside time. Had to be. Yet, why weren't you telling Rose who you are? Oh, right, that furious bit.

She called her future self an idiot and John Smith just shook his head. "No, I wouldn't say it was your fault," that meant it was his fault, Rose. He'd always assumed, after all.

Her fingers came up and started pushing at his hair spiking it up and his face lit up with a grin. "Always looking out for me," he mused, his hand finally dropping from her arm as he stepped backward. She wasn't his yet; she was still Nine's, and he needed to remind himself of that.

"I'll see you around, Rose," smile ticked in a bit of loss; but, still, this was something he needed to do, leave that is. He was already stepping out from beneath the awning, turning to look back with a grin and a wave.

Imagine that, the Doctor walking away from Rose Tyler.
