Day 07, eveningtime
Who: Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness and anyone else who wants to join in!
What: Being found and hopefully explanations
Where: Starting at the clock tower, ending at the museum?
When: Day 07, evening
Rating: PG 13 for safety's sake
Status: Complete!

The sun was setting and that made the cold that much sharper.  By this point, Ianto's lips were starting to turn blue, but at least he found a landmark that Jack knew.  While he wanted, Ianto tormented himself with visions of blankets and mugs of hot tea, both of which he was certain he wasn't about to get.  It was nice to dream, though.

Ianto stood in the doorway of the building, peering out into the snow, simply waiting, with his arms wrapped round himself and his worries clear on his face.  This .. really wasn't a holiday.  And he wasn't a Rift victim.  He was a rat dumped in a cage for an experiment.  Which was so much worse, despite the fact that the Rift could have tossed him anywhere and anywhen.  But it was random.  This ... this wasn't random.  This was someone planning something and taking him specifically.  Not a good thought to be having.

Ianto stamped his feet a bit, trying to return circulation and tried to just ignore all the unknown worries swarming round in his brain.

The arrival of Ianto carried with it mixed feelings for Jack. On one hand, he was ecstatic to have the other man here with him -- the Doctor and Ianto. What more could he ask for? On the other, however, there was a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. Another of his team here, catching the eye of the powers that be for whatever reason and now subjected to this strange place. Talk about your mixed blessings.

Still, the snow was coming down harder and faster and Jack wasn't about to let Ianto stay out there to freeze. He left the comfort of the museum, drawing his greatcoat around himself as he trudged through the rapidly falling snow. Thank god he was able to keep the damn coat, otherwise Jack'd be freezing his arse off. Speaking of freezing...

Jack found the shivering Ianto standing in the doorway and quickly moved towards him, enveloping the man in a bone-crushing hug, using his body to block the wind momentarily. He pulled back enough to be able tolook at and speak to Ianto yet not breaking the wind barrier. "Are you all right?" He asked sharlpy. "Has anything happened?"

Bloody bastard and his bloody greatcoat. All Ianto had was his suitcoat, since it hadn't been cold in Cardiff. When enveloped in the hug, Ianto leaned into it, sliding chilled hands into the warmth of Jack's coat and smushing his face against Jack's neck. His nose felt like a little cube of ice, by this point. And Jack was so very warm.

"Has anything happened?" he repeated when Jack pulled away. Really. One of his eyebrows arched nice and high on his forehead at that. "Beyond waking up in what I come to find is a giant experiment with a bugger of a headache and inappropriate clothes for what looks like a piece of Siberia? No, everything's alright." What a question. "How long have you been here?" Because he was certain Jack hadn't been missing back home.

Briefly, he hoped Jerome managed to find warm as he nudged at Jack a little. "Shelter first, please?"

Wasn't his fault he took to wearing the thing whenever he was out and about. Apparently, for once, his eccentric sense of style was about to pay off. Ianto leaned into the hug and Jack breathed a silent sigh of relief. Whatever time Ianto was from, he obviously was comfortable enough to lean in as he was. Thank god for small favours. Not that it would have made a difference, of course -- it just made things easier. Jack tightened his grip on Ianto, holding the other man close and ignoring the cold nose pressed against his neck. "Like a dog," Jack replied. "You and that nose of yours."

Well, maybe he wouldn't be ignoring the nose after all.

Even the eyebrow raise was enough to make Jack smile, no matter how inappropriate the reaction for their current situation. "That's not what I meant, but it doesn't matter," Jack said with a shake of his head. "This is going on day three now. At least --" Jack shook his head once more. No sense in worrying Ianto needlessly just yet. They'd talk about the experiments later... possibly.

Unbuttoning his coat, Jack flicked one side over Ianto, enveloping him like a cape. "C'mon. Let's get you warm," he said, setting off in the direction of the museum.

Wouldn't that have been a horrible hello? Ianto stiffening up and pulling away from the embrace. No, this Ianto Jones was sighing a little and grinding his nose a bit more into Jack's neck before reluctantly pulling away. "My nose gets cold easily and you're warm. It's how you know it's me." Or something.

An arm snaked round Jack as they walked, to keep himself close enough to huddle under the coat. "Three days? I spoke to you maybe an hour or two before I turned up here this morning." Jack wouldn't be able to keep the experiments from Ianto for long, given that they were talking about them in the journals, but for now Ianto let it slide and fell into step, nice and easy, with Jack. "You wouldn't happen to have tea or coffee or anything, would you? I think I'd settle for drinking hot water at this point."

That would have been a horrible 'hello'. Though, cold nose pressed up against the side of his neck wasn't exactly the best hello in the world either. But, given the circumstances, Jack wasn't going to complain. "I should have forgone the nickname of tiger pants and called you puppy."

No, Jack wouldn't be able to keep it for long, but he could try, right? Jack kept mum for now, listening to their footsteps as they crunched in the snow. "Odd," Jack muttered, frowning. "What was going on when you last spoke to me?" he asked. Could there be a strange temporal shift? When they were taken they were later dropped back and having no memory of the 'experiments'. Jack knew full-well that anything was possible. "No coffee," Jack groaned. "I was hoping you'd have some. Three days. I'm going into stages of withdrawl."

Alright, so far as hellos went, a cold nose was pretty miserable. But at least it wasn't wet. That would have been just disgusting. Ianto wrinkled said nose and cast a look over at Jack. "I don't recall you using either pet name." Thinking about it, tiger pants was a bit worse than puppy, for all that puppy was cute.

Granted, walking like this, bundled under Jack's coat, was cute, too.

"Not terribly much. It was a routine mission, if we have routine missions. A bit of junk collecting from a pawn shop. I think you asked for antique sex toys." It was typical Jack. Ianto's brow furrowed, thinking, but he couldn't remember much more than that. He snorted, once, and looked over again. "I don't generally keep coffee beans on my person, beyond the fact that anyone thorough enough to steal my pocket square would have stole any coffee I may have had." Great. Caffeine withdrawal.

It was, however, a Ianto and (for that matter) a Ianto who was comfortable with Jack. In that case? Jack could and would deal with as many cold body parts as he had to. Some, of course, would be far more fun to warm up than others. Jack waved a dismissive hand. "Doesn't really matter. Though I think we both agree that anything would be better than 'sport'."

Chuckling, Jack angled them towards the museum once more, looking forward to getting them both warm. Well, for the time being they'd avoid the Doctor. The last thing Jack needed was Ianto jumping to the conclusion that he'd run off here to see the Doctor. "It's always nice to know how your predecessors got off," Jack pointed out. "Which makes it a damn shame these folks take all possessions when you arrive." He lifted his right arm, coat falling enough to show a bare wrist. "Gone." Sighing, Jack squeezed Ianto closer. "And here I was counting on you for a coffee fix. I'm hoping these powers that be decide to toss extra-strong at us, figuring that we couldn't take it."

Good coffee, as far as Jack was concerned, was anything strong enough to jump start the SUV if needed.

Good coffee, as far as Jack was concerned, could be used to strip paint. But then Ianto rather liked it occasionally, too, so he wasn't one to talk. He worshiped at the altar of all coffee.

When Jack showed his wrist, Ianto reached up and brushed fingers over where the wrist strap should be. "Mm. Bastards took my stopwatch, too. It's more of a security blanket than anything, I'll admit. But it's just a stopwatch. Utterly harmless." What they could possibly want with it, Ianto didn't know. Really, though, he wished for his mobile.

As they walked, Ianto's head twisted this way and that, taking in the sights, run down as they were. It was odd. Like the town was completely abandoned before they were dropped into it. The lack of homes was a bit odd, too, but he reckoned that if people could be dropped in town without batting an eye, that they could build whatever the hell they damned well pleased. "This entire place is utterly decrepid. Like the whole point is to try and depress everyone."

There was nothing wrong with strong coffee if you asked Jack. But, then again, he was a bit biased where that was concerned.

Smiling when Ianto brushed his fingers over the sensitive skin, barely managing to suppress a shiver. Though, any shivering could easily be explained by the cool weather. "Took your stopwatch?" Jack asked, mouth dropping open in mock horror. "We never even got through all the uses for the stopwatch either." Jack sighed sadly. "Like with the wrist strap. The Doctor disabled it once again and there's no way it'll work. Useless to anyone but me, and yet it got taken. Along with everything else."

Jack kept his head down, aside from the tiny glances he stole in Ianto's direction. He'd seen the town and had no desire to explore, not when it was so damned cold. Coat or not, he wasn't prepared for this weather. "At this point, I'd say it's all part of... whatever reason it is we've been brought here. Seeing how we'll behave when given such decrepit circumstances. I say we're living in a museum, but even that's not much to cheer over. Everything's run-down. Though," he pointed in the general direction of the convenience store. "There's a convenience store around and apparently there's a thrift store too."

"Then it's more for the psychological impact than anything else," he murmured and drew a little closer to the warmth Jack offered. The impact of losing everything really was working, though. Ianto had to admit that. "We'll find our things. You without that wrist strap's an absolute horror. It's just not supposed to happen."

The town really was run down, he thought as they passed by buildings, but he couldn't figure out if it was artistically done or if it was really run down. While Jack kept his head down, Ianto kept his up, taking in every little detail he could. "I'm sure it's fine," he reassured Jack. "It's just shelter, though, what I wouldn't give for one of those giant tents we've got in the camping kit in Cardiff. And the rest of the kit, for that matter." Blankets and gear and food. Ianto's stomach chose that moment to announce its presence, loudly.

"At that, they're doing a bang-up job. See how well we do when removed from our comfort zones and the items we find most secure." Jack grumbled under his breath. "Like my Webley for another." Which too meant that Ianto was unarmed. That thought bothered him more than Jack missing his own weapon. Jack could come back from an attack, particularly knowing Weevils were about. Ianto, on the other hand, couldn't.

Jack had stopped trying to figure out things where the town was concerned. In his opinion, if he stopped caring maybe they'd toss him back. However, Ianto around (and the Doctor and Martha for that matter) made him re-think things. It was one thing to be alone and to not care. It was quite another to be taken away and leave others behind. "Oh, it's fine... just not the most stellar of places. But, then again, nothing really is to be honest." Chuckling, Jack nodded. "What I wouldn't give for the tents. Though the museum's warm and that's what counts." Jack nodded up ahead, pointing. "There's the museum. And there should be some food around inside from what some of us have gathered from the store. Anything else you want, however, I'll brave the storm for you."

"Right now, warm counts for a hell of a lot." The fact that Jack was there? Was even better. Though he didn't voice this outloud. He sort of just assumed that Jack knew.

The fact that he was unarmed wasn't one that was lost on Ianto, especially after the things he's read in the journal. He would have given nearly anything to have his stungun back. Still, they had to make do. It's what they generally did. He wasn't planning on giving up here and letting people do what they liked to him.

"There's no way in hell you're going out in this mess, once we get inside and warm. I'm sure whatever you have will be just fine. I'll settle for almost anything." Almost. Some foreign things he wouldn't touch unless starving, after all.

No, Ianto didn't need to say anything -- the way Ianto curled against Jack spoke volumes. And, frankly, the sooner they could get inside and some place warm, the better. Jack did want to make sure this truly was his Ianto.

"Fine, I'll stay in," Jack replied, giving Ianto a gentle squeeze. "You may or may not have convinced me to stay with you." Jack turned his head, brushing his lips against Ianto's temple. There really hadn't been a proper greeting outside of the fierce hug -- something Jack fully intended to remedy once they were inside.

At last, approaching the museum, Jack slid inside the door, holding it open for Ianto. Once they both were safe and (marginally) warmer, Jack slid his arms around the other man, drawing him in, eyes once more searching Ianto's face. "Swear to me that nothing happened to you after you arrived."

Jack was more than welcome to satisfy himself as to Ianto's identity. It'd kill two birds with one stone. Assessing identity and a rather nice hello all wrapped up in one. But then, that was generally how Ianto identified himself to Jack when things were uncertain. And he fancied he could do the same, in return.

Being inside counted for a lot, too. Just being out of the wind made things feel warmer and Ianto fancied he could feel his feet thawing. The socks from the excuse of a survival kit would actually come in handy, too, once he got his own shoes and socks off. They'd keep him from losing toes. Or at least warming them up a bit more quickly.

Ianto slid his arms round Jack's waist as he was drawn in close and he shook his head gently. "Nothing happened since turning up. I promise. I woke up with a headache but no bump on my head. Met a man named Jerome. Trudged through a weirdly quiet forest and way too much snow. That took most of the day, and then you came to get me." It was true, too.

Jack was a master at killing two birds with one stone, particularly when it came to a good snog and figuring out who people were -- namely Ianto. But that went without saying, didn't it? Jack had one hell of an ego, but at least he had the skills to back up his 'diva-ness'. That was all that counted, wasn't it?

"Warmer?" Jack asked, drawing Ianto in closer, though whether he meant being close or as a result of being inside was hard to say. Loathe though he was to move, they also couldn't stay in the doorway either. "C'mon, let's get a bit further inside. Warmer in the main part of the museum."

He tugged on Ianto, pulling the other man with him until they got to the area he had secured as his own. "Few others are living here too." Pause. "Namely the Doctor. As in my Doctor." That was either going to go over well or not. But then again, Ianto'd have to deal with it if he wanted to stay warm so Jack put that as a plus in his favour. At last he turned to Ianto, resuming the position they had in the entranceway and smiled down at the other man. "Headaches I can deal with. The people here... not us who have been taken but those who took us? They're the worst sort of things. And... I just want you safe," Jack murmured, brushing his lips against Ianto's temple.

"Warmer," Ianto agreed, but he followed along when tugged, glancing round at high ceilings and ruined artwork curiously. Maybe there was something they could use in this mess, either for bedding or kindling or anything. And once inside, in Jack's space, Ianto toed off soggy shoes, much to the relief of his feet.

When he heard that the Doctor was here, Ianto hesitated for a moment, then moved within Jack's embrace. "He's not my favorite person, I'll admit. But you have faith in him and he does seem to have a knack for solving difficult situations." For all that Jack tied his heart to the Doctor. Ianto hated that. But what could he do? Throw a fit? He sighed, instead, though it could have been from warmth and moderate relaxations of his guard. "And this is a difficult situation. I will do my best, but I doubt any of us is really safe."

Jack saw the slight hesitation and sighed softly. They were going to be living in the same space and they would have to interact at some point, wouldn't they? Jack needed the two to get along for reasons passing understanding. He wasn't sure if there was a way for them to actually... get along.

"I know he's not your most favourite person and I don't know if that's the old Institute training coming out or... a result of my disappearing act." Jack tugged Ianto closer, looking at his lover with a small smile. "However, he's here and I'm with you. So guess who wins where that's concerned." But to be stuck anywhere, there's nowhere Jack would rather be than with both the Doctor and Ianto. Brains in two very different ways. "You're with the Captain," Jack said with a wink. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you."

Well, it's not like they'd get into a fist fight or anything. Ianto was perfectly capable of working with people he didn't like much. He worked with Owen, after all, and for a while they really didn't like one another.

Ianto shook his head a bit, then rest his forehead against Jack's shoulder. "It's not a competition and I'm not about to go on and be a jealous lover. It'll be fine. That part, at least." Still, Ianto's arms tightened, just a bit more, around Jack's waist.

..and, really, sometimes Ianto wondered if 'the Captain' refered to all of Jack or just one small bit. It was a good thing his head was down, because that thought was making him smirk and it was very inappropriate.

No, Jack wasn't expecting it to come to blows, but he also didn't wantto have any more undue stress than absolutely necessary in the museum. And, considering that he had made himself at home in the museum and was bringing another in without asking? Well, Jack figured his 'best behaviour' was what was called for now.

Jack's hand slid up, threading his fingers through Ianto's hair as he held the other man close. While Jack would have preferred to be here alone as opposed to putting any of his team through this hell -- Jack was glad, at least, that he found Ianto so quickly. "If you played the jealous lover all the time, I don't think there'd be much of 'us' left."

In a sense it was one small bit (and not that bit either) in another sense, well... Jack held much close to his chest. The Captain truly was only a small portion of him. Closing his eyes, Jack let his cheek rest against Ianto's temple, fingers still working through his hair in their methodical way.

In a situation like this, it'd be absolute folly for people to turn one another away from places. They weren't on vacation, they were in a hostile environment. It'd be cruelty to deny someone shelter. Besides, it'd be better, generally, to stick together, wouldn't it? He was too tired to think about that rationally, right now. Especially without coffee.

"I don't play jealous lover ever. Well. Maybe once or twice for all of a minute or two. It's not as much fun, though, as being Ianto Jones." Ianto's eyes closed as Jack's fingers began passing through his hair and his face tipped so he could press lips up against Jack's neck.

"Is it bad?" he asked softly. It had to be, if the quiet need for closeness was any indication. Not that he was complaining. It was the perfect thing after the hellish day he had.

It was better to stick together, at least until he knew what this place was about. So many days here (though not as many as some) and the place was still a complete unknown to him. Outside of knowing the Weevils were about and there were, apparently, strange experiments (though Jack had yet to be subjected to anything like that)-- he didn't know anything about the place.

And it frustrated the hell out of him.

"Not as much fun," Jack replied with a soft chuckle. "And, really, playing the jealous lover would take up all your time, leaving none for, say, brewing coffee." Jack closed his eyes at the soft kiss, sighing contently.

"Not... exactly the best situation I've found myself in." Jack paused, fitting his hand beneath Ianto's chin. He rubbed his thumb against the other man's lower lip, trying to smile but not managing it. It had always been easier to drop his guard around Ianto. He dropped his forehead against Ianto's, hand still cupping his jaw. "It's not good," he finally confessed.

"We've been in worse," he assured Jack quietly, lips moving against Jack's thumb. They'll eventually figure this out and eventually get home. The fact that it wasn't a Rift accident made him feel a lot better, for all that they were in a giant glass cage. His views on that might change in the coming days, but right now, that's what he was holding on to.

Well, that and Jack. Ianto's head tipped a bit so he could give Jack a proper kiss, since they both needed the distraction at this point. That and in a few minutes, Ianto was certain that he'd be yawning to hard to do something like that.
