When: Day 07, evening
Rating: PG 13 for safety's sake
Status: Complete!

The sun was setting and that made the cold that much sharper.  By this point, Ianto's lips were starting to turn blue, but at least he found a landmark that Jack knew.  While he wanted, Ianto tormented himself with visions of blankets and mugs of hot tea, both of which he was certain he wasn't about to get.  It was nice to dream, though.

Ianto stood in the doorway of the building, peering out into the snow, simply waiting, with his arms wrapped round himself and his worries clear on his face.  This .. really wasn't a holiday.  And he wasn't a Rift victim.  He was a rat dumped in a cage for an experiment.  Which was so much worse, despite the fact that the Rift could have tossed him anywhere and anywhen.  But it was random.  This ... this wasn't random.  This was someone planning something and taking him specifically.  Not a good thought to be having.

Ianto stamped his feet a bit, trying to return circulation and tried to just ignore all the unknown worries swarming round in his brain.

Wouldn't that have been a horrible hello? Ianto stiffening up and pulling away from the embrace. No, this Ianto Jones was sighing a little and grinding his nose a bit more into Jack's neck before reluctantly pulling away. "My nose gets cold easily and you're warm. It's how you know it's me." Or something.

An arm snaked round Jack as they walked, to keep himself close enough to huddle under the coat. "Three days? I spoke to you maybe an hour or two before I turned up here this morning." Jack wouldn't be able to keep the experiments from Ianto for long, given that they were talking about them in the journals, but for now Ianto let it slide and fell into step, nice and easy, with Jack. "You wouldn't happen to have tea or coffee or anything, would you? I think I'd settle for drinking hot water at this point."

That would have been a horrible 'hello'. Though, cold nose pressed up against the side of his neck wasn't exactly the best hello in the world either. But, given the circumstances, Jack wasn't going to complain. "I should have forgone the nickname of tiger pants and called you puppy."

No, Jack wouldn't be able to keep it for long, but he could try, right? Jack kept mum for now, listening to their footsteps as they crunched in the snow. "Odd," Jack muttered, frowning. "What was going on when you last spoke to me?" he asked. Could there be a strange temporal shift? When they were taken they were later dropped back and having no memory of the 'experiments'. Jack knew full-well that anything was possible. "No coffee," Jack groaned. "I was hoping you'd have some. Three days. I'm going into stages of withdrawl."

Alright, so far as hellos went, a cold nose was pretty miserable. But at least it wasn't wet. That would have been just disgusting. Ianto wrinkled said nose and cast a look over at Jack. "I don't recall you using either pet name." Thinking about it, tiger pants was a bit worse than puppy, for all that puppy was cute.

Granted, walking like this, bundled under Jack's coat, was cute, too.

"Not terribly much. It was a routine mission, if we have routine missions. A bit of junk collecting from a pawn shop. I think you asked for antique sex toys." It was typical Jack. Ianto's brow furrowed, thinking, but he couldn't remember much more than that. He snorted, once, and looked over again. "I don't generally keep coffee beans on my person, beyond the fact that anyone thorough enough to steal my pocket square would have stole any coffee I may have had." Great. Caffeine withdrawal.

It was, however, a Ianto and (for that matter) a Ianto who was comfortable with Jack. In that case? Jack could and would deal with as many cold body parts as he had to. Some, of course, would be far more fun to warm up than others. Jack waved a dismissive hand. "Doesn't really matter. Though I think we both agree that anything would be better than 'sport'."

Chuckling, Jack angled them towards the museum once more, looking forward to getting them both warm. Well, for the time being they'd avoid the Doctor. The last thing Jack needed was Ianto jumping to the conclusion that he'd run off here to see the Doctor. "It's always nice to know how your predecessors got off," Jack pointed out. "Which makes it a damn shame these folks take all possessions when you arrive." He lifted his right arm, coat falling enough to show a bare wrist. "Gone." Sighing, Jack squeezed Ianto closer. "And here I was counting on you for a coffee fix. I'm hoping these powers that be decide to toss extra-strong at us, figuring that we couldn't take it."

Good coffee, as far as Jack was concerned, was anything strong enough to jump start the SUV if needed.

Good coffee, as far as Jack was concerned, could be used to strip paint. But then Ianto rather liked it occasionally, too, so he wasn't one to talk. He worshiped at the altar of all coffee.

When Jack showed his wrist, Ianto reached up and brushed fingers over where the wrist strap should be. "Mm. Bastards took my stopwatch, too. It's more of a security blanket than anything, I'll admit. But it's just a stopwatch. Utterly harmless." What they could possibly want with it, Ianto didn't know. Really, though, he wished for his mobile.

As they walked, Ianto's head twisted this way and that, taking in the sights, run down as they were. It was odd. Like the town was completely abandoned before they were dropped into it. The lack of homes was a bit odd, too, but he reckoned that if people could be dropped in town without batting an eye, that they could build whatever the hell they damned well pleased. "This entire place is utterly decrepid. Like the whole point is to try and depress everyone."
