DAY 5: Early and Frakked
Who: Samuel T. Anders and OTA
What: Arrival
When: Day 5, pre-dawn
Where: Forest, to start
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

There was a musky smell in the air laced with a bit of something rotten as Samuel T. Anders was begrudgingly dragged from his sleep. Not a moment before, he had laid down in his rack on Galactica. There was distinctly more moisture in the air and the stench that was dissipating as he woke was reminiscent of the waste disposal ship he had just spent the past few weeks on. Also, it was significantly cooler, like being in a fridge kind of cooler. Most alarmingly of all, the familiar hum of the ship, any ship, was absent.

The scenery was alien to him as his eyes snapped open in alarm. There was no sign of his bunk or even another person. Instead, a murky forest stretched out in the dark. From nowhere an alarm began to sound obnoxiously. It sounded like a game buzzer or a warning siren. This whole thing looked like a bad nightmare, but felt all to real for Anders to let himself be consoled by that. Everything felt wrong.

He sat up to survey the surrounding wood, brushing off the leaves that stuck to his bare chest and face. It was freezing. That alarm seemed to be coming from everywhere. Without warning, it stopped and the world plunged back into silence. "Hello?" he called out, hoping there was someone, anyone nearby.

Ideas of who could be doing this raced through his mind. If it were the Cylons, somehow, he found solace in the fact that he could tell them the truth about himself. If it were the humans, and they somehow found out what he was, he would only find solace in death.

Too morbid, he thought. It was too early for that kind of thinking.

From the shadows of the forest, a shape emerged. "Hey!" Sam got up, feeling colder and colder as he became more and more awake. The figure simply meandered closer. "Look, I think I'm a little turned around-" Sam stopped mid-sentence. Whomever or whatever was approaching him seemed to amble forward like some sort of prowling animal, not like a person or a centurion. "-could you, uh..." A low, animal-like sound came from its direction.

Though he wasn't all the way awake just yet, he knew a bad situation when he saw one. He started to make out the shape of deep set eyes and a wide, low mouth. It may have looked human, from a distance, but whatever it was, it wasn't like any human he'd ever seen. Panic rose as he realized all of this.

Suddenly, the creature flicked its head to the side and made a raspy growling sound and all of Anders' worst suspicions were proven true.

"Frak." Then he was off and running.

The smoke had caught Sam's eye, too, but he was thinking less about the people and more about the warmth. All her second guessing was frustrating because it would be useful to have someone who knew the landscape around here, but at the same time, every time she did it, he could tell she was getting closer to the memories she was looking for. "Well, that's good, I think."

Martha nodded her agreement. It was good. She pulled him to a stop before they reached the steps. "Hello?" She called out, and then looked at him apologetically. "They might have a weapon or something, shoot first ask questions later"

Knowing far too well what she was talking about, Anders put the seat of his pants to the wall, ready to hit anything that came through that door looking for trouble.

"Hello?"

Andy's stomach had finally settled just before he'd gone to bed, but when the alarm jerked him awake - awakening along with him, a killer headache that felt similar to a hangover but slightly different and twice as painful - his stomach had started in again. He was hungry and he was hurting. Andy knew he needed to eat something, but the pain-induced nausea made the idea of food far less appealing and, so, the vicious cycle continued.

It was much colder when he woke up then it had been when he'd gone to sleep, but Luna was much smaller than he was and he'd decided that she needed the alter cloth as a second blanket more than he needed it for a first. Besides, there was the heat of the fire, however little it was from where he was positioned, to keep him warm for the time being. When the sun came all the way up, he hoped it would be warmer. Thus, he'd moved himself - carefully - up onto one of the pews, laying down on it and staring up at the ceiling with frustration, because every time he tried to go back to sleep that goddamn alarm went off again.

So, to say that he was a little out of it, cranky, and tired when he heard the church doors open unexpectedly and both a male and a female voice called out, would've been fairly accurate. He was too tired, too, to bother concentrating his energy into working the mojo on whoever they were to keep them at bay until he could find a weapon. Hopefully, if they were threats, they'd be put off by attacking a small, attractive blonde and an effective cripple. Besides, if they were calling out, maybe they were new people just looking for a place to crash the way he and Luna had four days prior.

With a grunt and much effort, Andy pushed himself into a sitting position and looked back at the door. "Yeah, hello?" Andy called back. "Who're you?"

He spared a cautious glance at Luna and gestured for her to stay low where she wouldn't be seen right away, just in case, as he reached for one of the crutches and readied himself to use it as a weapon if need be. If he needed to move to defend her, he would; if it meant tearing out the stitches, he hoped Lexie would understand and repeat the process to fix it again. Mostly, though, he hoped it wouldn't come to that.

Something was odd about that morning. Then again, something was odd about each morning in this place. A rather annoying alarm went off to wake her, and would not let her go back to sleep. With a shrug she had sat up where she had lain, far from Andy that last night, before getting up to get her bottle of water and one of those 'protein bars' that she had gotten the day before.

After everything the day before, it had only been the fire that had kept her from sleeping in the room on the far side of the church. It was nothing against Andy personally, but it had even taken her quite a long time to fall asleep. Even then it had been a fitful sleep full of dreams she had not wanted, and had caused her to wake several times through the night.

Actually, the alarm was doing her some good in not allowing her to fall asleep again. She did not want those dreams.

It took a second after the voices before Luna recognized the woman's voice. Completely missing Andy's gesture, she looked up over the pew beside her. Fingers curling over the edge of the seat as she peeked over it, Luna called back, "Healer Martha?"

Martha leaned forwords slightly to try and hear better. She heard movement from inside the church before some one finally called out their question. Male, and slightly fimilar.

Before she could open her mouth to identify herself, she heard another voice, female this time, asking after her. Martha gave a tiny sigh of relief, at least these people knew her. Or at least the woman did. Normally she wasn't called a healer, but it was close enough to the truth, that it allowed her to relax.

"Uh, yeah-Yes I suppose so." She nudged Anders a little with her arm, indicating they should start up the stairs. "Um, if you know me, that's well, that's great, mind if we take shelter here with you?" She asked, trying to peer into the building and see hwo was there.

Anxious to get inside, Anders made his way up the stairs as fast as possible. The pre-dawn air was far too cold for his bare skin, and his shaking was starting to worry him. Sam had not forgotten the months he was sick from pneumonia. The thought had him swallowing down a cough.

"Recognize any of them?" Anders inquired hopefully. The sooner Martha's memory was straightened out, the better.
