Entry tags:!shelved, day 21, location: clock tower, open, remus lupin, selene

Who: Selene, Remus and OTA.
What: Vampires, werewolves and zombies, oh my?
Where: The clock tower.
When: Day 21, around 1pm.
Rating: R for violence.
Status: Active.

At the first mention of guns Selene had it in her mind to go searching. She didn't care what kind they were, so long as they were in working order and had ammunition she would be happy. That smell that filled the air bothered her something fierce but eventually she pushed it aside and left the safety of the rooftops. She had been reading, and while zombies certainly weren't anything she imagined as real she was somewhat familiar with the lore. She was a vampire. Of course she was familiar with other undead creatures of myth.

And yes, part of what pushed her to wander further was the somewhat frightened tone she got from the young werewolf.

Thinking about Remus had started to remind her and make her think of Michael, and while that was dangerous in several ways it also kept her thoughts quite far from killing him. Of course, the Doctor had more or less threatened her should she try to harm the werewolf, and though that didn't bother her she knew there were others that cared for the boy as well. And spending part of that day with Rose trying to find somewhere safe for Remus, followed by the chats with Tonks, had fairly erased any thoughts of doing the boy harm from her mind.

It was a fairly straight shot, from the gas station to the clock tower. At least going through the forest it was, and that was the path the vampire had taken. She ran at an accelerated rate until she was within sight of buildings and then slowed slightly, only dropping down to a human walk when she was within a few yards of the clock tower. The vampire wasn't worried about anyone seeing her and wondering at her speed. That, and she imagined they might hold back questions given her new accessories.

The shotgun from the gas station rested easily against one shoulder, the box of ammo safely inside one of her coat pockets. One of the axes was in her other hand. Selene wasn't being greedy, she simply didn't know if anything had popped up at the clock tower and she wanted the boy to have some means to protect himself. If Rose hadn't mentioned the presence of weapons at the gym Selene would have brought her something too. The vampire didn't exactly have many friends and she fully intended to look out for those she did.

It wouldn't take long for them smell of brains to attract one of the many zombies now running around the decrepit, dark town. While the couple were standing there and discussing, they would hear the moaning.

From around the corner of the clock tower, very near to the boy and his vampire friend, would come the rotting, smelling corpse of Martha Jones. Her throat had been slit weeks ago and her clothes were tattered and dirty, stained with old blood and mud.

Her eyes had sunken in and her mouth was hanging open. Decomposition had set in several days prior and she could be smelled, especially by the two non-humans, quite well.

Her groaning, if nothing else, would alert the pair to her presence.

He nodded as Selene assured him that she wasn't interested in offing him. And perhaps he would have said more, if that moaning hadn't caught his attention. Hazel eyes turned at the same time as his body and he focused those eyes onto the dark-skinned woman who looked.. rotting. He let out a little breath and moved a step back, to be right up next to Selene, his arm brushing hers. If he'd been less reserved, he would have grasped onto her hand. "Selene.." He spoke quietly, shifting a step closer as he gripped tighter onto the axe and breathed in.

Zombies.

It wasn't the sound that alerted Selene to danger, but the smell. Absolutely rancid, the vampire turned her face away just briefly to try at a whiff of fresher air before forcing herself to look toward the smell. Her eyes widened at the sight she found. A zombie on a television screen, or in a book, was not at all the same as seeing one in person. And a bit too close for comfort, actually.

She sensed Remus' movement and didn't take her eyes off the zombie as she fluidly raised the shotgun. One hand on the barrel to steady it and the other with a finger curled around the trigger. The vampire didn't even blink. She did, however, aim to shoot out a leg rather than going for the headshot. With a shotgun it was best to do that close-range, just to be certain. That and was a little curious to see how the creature would react. She'd never dealt with zombies before; she wanted to know how this sort of threat handled.

One thing was for sure though. If anyone was hiding out in the clock tower they would have heard the shot fired. As would anything else nearby.

The zombie was stumbling forward in a very ungraceful manner, moaning and groaning as it went. That was, until the shot was fired and the buckshot went tearing through rotting meat, eating away the creature's thigh.

It caused it to stumble once again and fall down to the ground. But there were no shouts of pain, no indication that it felt anything at all.

Its hands were still grasping at air, reaching towards the two fresh, warm bodies. Brains.

And soon, the creature was beginning to drag itself along the ground, pulling that leg up to get a dirty, shoeless foot on the ground again to try and stand.

When the gun went off, Remus jumped and backed a few quick steps away, tripping back over a curb behind him and falling very ungracefully into the dew-covered grass behind him. Hey, no one ever said that he was perfect. Far from it. And he was staring at the gun wide-eyed.. what the heck was that thing? He'd never seen one before, and he'd certainly never heard one before. But the zombie quickly won his attention back and he was pushing himself to stand, grasping the axe in a bandaged hand once again and quickly moving back to Selene.

At the first chance he got, when one of her paler hands lowered away from the shot gun, he swung his out and grabbed on. "Leave it alone. Please. Let's just go." He didn't want her shooting it again, or trying to pick it apart, or seeing what made it tick. No, he just wanted to leave the thing alone. Even mindless, man-eaters had feelings, Selene. He should know. There might still be people trapped in there, trapped inside those rotting bodies. "Please."

The vampire watched with a sort of fascination, head cocking to one side as she noted how the shot didn't seem to phase the zombie much at all. So, apparently they couldn't feel pain and were purely goal-driven. That was good to know for future encounters. Injuries might slow them down but damaging the brain was key. Which really wasn't all that different from dealing with vampires.

Remus' warm hand latching onto hers drew her attention swiftly and Selene glanced down at him even as her hand offered a reassuring squeeze. "It's not going to stop until it's dead, and I don't have enough ammo to take on a whole town full of the walking undead. This isn't the time to have a bleeding heart." Just because she and Remus could avoid the creatures easily enough didn't mean everyone else could. It didn't mean friends of either of them could protect themselves from the stinking creatures and then what? What would they do when a zombie that came after them used to be someone they knew? No, she wasn't taking any chances. The warning shot (of sorts) told her what she needed to know.

"Perhaps you should cover your ears this time. Or don't look." A warning she hadn't thought to offer the first time, but she wasn't used to being around those a bit squeamish about killing. Selene slipped her hand free so as not to drag Remus closer to danger as she took a few steps forward toward the zombie. The gun was raised easily with her other hand as she moved and cold eyes stared at the zombie as she let it come a little closer before pulling the trigger again, taking the headshot this time. She was going to need to clean her boots and coat later, but that was hardly different from any other night before she came to this place.

"Can't we just lock it up? A room or something, or.." But then she was releasing his hand and moving forward, and Remus took the opportunity to turn his face away and close his eyes. He didn't cover his ears because one hand was busy holding an axe, but as the shot went off, he did flinch and waited silently for the movement from the zombie to stop. When it did, he slowly turned his head to look back at it.. then his free hand was coming out again to take up hers. "Let's go. Please."

The hand holding was as much for his comfort as it was to try and keep her under control, he didn't want her killing all of these things. He was just like them.

Selene watched dispassionately, only making a slight face at the blood that splattered onto her clothes. Dead blood always had a rather unpleasant smell, but perhaps it would work to cover up whatever little smell of life she gave off? She wasn't really worried about that though. She'd be more content if the drizzle increased to a decent rain and washed her coat off.

Her eyes drifted away from the now dead zombie when the young werewolf again took her hand, just looking at him for a moment before she nodded slightly. "Alright." Since he had her hand she couldn't reload, and had to settle for resting the shotgun against her shoulder as she had been when she approached. Oh well, as slow as the things seemed to be she would have plenty of time to reload whenever they came across another. "You know, Rose is rather worried about you. Perhaps I should take you to her."

"I don't need to be taken to anyone." He assured her quietly, hand lingering for only a second before finally releasing hers. If that was why she was saying she wanted to get rid of him, then he wouldn't give her the reason any more. "I'm not scared and I'm not a child." He was both, but he was good at hiding his fear, though it could clearly be smelled by the vampire.. and when talking to a six hundred year old woman, sixteen was a baby.

Try again, werewolf. "Am I bothering you?" He finally asked, after they'd walked a little bit. "If that's the reason.. then I'll go find Rose." And be quiet with her, so as not to bother. He didn't want them to get annoyed with him and not want him around anymore. God forbid they find reason to hate him (well, aside from the obvious.. furry problem).

She arched a brow at his remark about not being scared but chose not to comment on it. "I simply meant that she might feel better if she could see that you were alright rather than me telling her you are." The vampire wasn't looking at it as babysitting, if that was what he thought. Though she wasn't exactly used to defending a werewolf from zombies either. It was more than a little strange for her, since Selene was quite used to lycans that were more than happy to defend themselves. Generally against her, but still.

Though she would never say it out loud, she missed the contact as soon as Remus let go. He was warm, after all, and even if Selene had fed the day before she missed such contact. Missed the warmth. "You're not a bother, Remus. I just don't want anything to happen to you." She wished she could take the words back the moment they left her mouth. Oh, they were true, very true. But they also meant she was as capable of emotional weaknesses as the next person. They meant she was capable of caring. The vampire fell quiet for a few paces, then stole a glance at him. "You know, I think you're the first werewolf that hasn't tried to kill me. I don't know if I should get used to that or not." She wasn't sure why she was telling him such things, perhaps because the silence was bothering her a little, even if it was likely safer.

That was exactly how he'd taken it. She'd only reacted that way once he'd asked her not to kill the creature, and she had anyway. So, immediately, he'd thought that she was trying to protect him because he was just a child. Then she'd tried to send him away. That had been when he thought she'd been trying to get rid of him, because of the above reasons.

But then she said she didn't want anything to happen to him, and he lowered his eyes to the ground, staring for a long few seconds before they lifted again. "Thank you." For caring enough to not want anything to happen. A little smile formed on his face, when she said that he was the first. "I hope I'm not the last. We're really not bad all the time.. we're just a little furry, sometimes." A little furry and a little murderous.

Selene looked back over at him at his words, and found herself giving him a small smile, even if it didn't quite reach her eyes. "No. No, you're not. Just some werewolves. Some types, perhaps would be better to say." She brushed her hair out of her eyes with her free hand, taking a look around to stay aware of their surroundings. Now that the vampire knew what to look for, she wasn't about to let any other zombies somewhat sneak up on them. "But I suppose we all have our good and bad sides. It's just a matter of which it is that people see and choose to focus on."

Remus let out a slow breath and lowered his eyes briefly, before lifting them back up to her and nodding. "I think you're right." About the good and bad sides, that was. But then, after a moment, he was holding out his hand again, this time allowing her to choose if she wanted to take it or not. "Let's go to the gym. There are others there." And they might need their help-- well, her help. Remus wasn't sure if he'd be doing anything with that axe or not...

She glanced at his hand but didn't hesitate to take it. The vampire told herself she was doing it for the boy's comfort, not for her own. This way she would know exactly where he was... ignoring that her senses were quite capable of telling her that no matter how dark it was, and that he was highly unlikely to go running off on his own.

"That sounds as good a plan as any. We can make sure everyone's safe." More for the well-being of the two of them than because she was actually concerned for the people as a whole. No, so long as they didn't turn into creatures she had to start killing, Selene really didn't care about them, save for a few.

"Good." He replied quietly, and keeping hold of her hand, would gently begin tugging her towards the gym. Hopefully, towards others and relative safety.
