Who: Nymphadora and OTA
What: Dora is looking for her mummy and daddy
When: Day 19, 7am
Where: Around town; nearest location theatre
Rating: PG.
Status: Active

Nymphadora had woken up early in the morning, though that wasn't anything particularly new. She liked the early mornings and padding into the kitchen to see if her father was already awake and making breakfast. She loved helping him, especially when he made pancakes. That was when Nymphadora would make up different shapes and beg him to cook the pancakes in those shapes. After that, they'd wake up mummy and eat breakfast. So the girl woke up, all excited to do that.

Except, she didn't wake up in her bed. She didn't wake up to the bright coloured room of pinks and yellows, nor did she wake up with her favourite stuffed animal. She didn't wake up in her own house! What the heck! Frowning, she looked around for Charlie Weasley. Or maybe Bill Weasley. Maybe the Weasleys were over and the boys were playing a prank on her. Booted feet..ew, boots? Where were her ballet slippers? She was very into ballet right now. Even if she kept falling down. But booted feet clomped through the hall of the gymnasium straight outside.

This wasn't where she lived. Not at all. Frowning, Dora tugged on her pigtail, it changing by itself to a more mousy brown sort of colour, and she continued to wander outside. "Mummy!! Daaaadddy!" She kept wandering, not even quite sure where she was going. But she was very sure that she'd find Andromeda and Ted Tonks soon. Quite sure.

Rose hadn't slept well the night before, and had gotten up a lot earlier than she usually would. The events of the previous day were still streaming through her head. Made her completely restless, and not in any sort of good way. So when she got up, she changed back into the shirt and denims she'd been wearing the day before and slipped off before anyone could stop her. Namely the Doctor, but she knew Remus worried about her, too. Funnily enough, considering she worried about the both of them.

First, she vowed to stop at the theater. Maybe she could find something she and Selene had missed. Or maybe she could figure out why she'd spent the previous morning snogging one John Smith. Her cheeks turned pink as she closed in on the building.

But the flush faded when she heard the tiny voice calling out. Turning in surprise, she blinked at the sight of the tiny girl. While she'd read that the so-called management was bringing in children, she hadn't actually expected they'd be interacting. Nor did she expect they'd be brought in having no freaking clue that their mummies and daddies weren't around. "Are you lost, sweetie?" she asked, stepping closer to the tiny girl in very large boots.

Nymphadora watched the woman for a long minute, debating about whether she was a witch that her mum had told her to be careful of. But this woman wasn't old enough to look mean, nor did she look like the picture that Dora once saw. So she must be okay. "I think my mummy and daddy are lost." She nodded once firmly and then looked up hopefully at the woman. "Do you know where they are? Maybe they went to get something for breakfast? My daddy likes to make pancakes for me and Mum! I try to help but sometimes make a big ol' mess."

She liked to talk, this kid. But knew better than to blab about certain things at first. The pigtailed girl had accidentally done that with her cousin's friend, but got upset when he called her a liar. She didn't lie! Magic was too real! That friend was stupid. Thinking about it, the girl scowled a little and then shook her head. This woman hopefully wasn't stupid!

Oh, the poor thing. How to explain that she was kidnapped? Oh, when Rose got her hands on the people who'd put her here, she'd strangle them on her own. She'd thought taking a sixteen year-old was bad, but a little girl?

Kneeling in the dirt with little regard for her denims, Rose smiled at the girl in what she hoped was a reassuring manner. She hadn't baby-sat since she was fifteen, but she did like kids. Just didn't have much experience with them was all. "I'm not sure where they are," she admitted. "But I'm sure they'll turn up soon. My name is Rose, maybe you can help me out till we find them?" Even if it would be a few days or a few weeks or... Ugh. She refused to believe they'd be trapped long enough to actually watch these kids mature.

When Rose knelt down to Dora's level, the girl smiled brightly. It was always very nice when she could see the person that was talking. Not that she couldn't see them anyway, but it was nice not to have to crane your neck like one of those dinosaurs with the long necks. If she was going to be a dinosaur, Dora would want to be a triceratops. She liked the spikey things on their head. The fact that she didn't know where her parents were made the little girl frown a little though. "They wouldn't leave me." She explained to Rose, half in exasperation. So where were they?

Then her features lit up, because she totally had the answer. "They're playing Hide and Go Seek!" Duh, of course they were. Silly Dora. She reached out and tugged at Rose's hand. "We haveta fiiiind them." Naturally. Oh. And then she stopped suddenly and smiled. "Very nice to meet you, Miss Rose. I'm Dora."

There was only so long Rose could manage a hide-n-seek game with a girl whose parents weren't coming. Anxiously, she bit her lip. The little girl was adorable, with pigtails and light brown hair. The sort of child Rose herself wanted someday. Imagine raising a child on the TARDIS. The Doctor would flip!

"Let's look around," Rose said quietly. "Maybe we can find them." Oh, Rose Tyler, you were going to hell for lying to a six year-old. A white lie, certainly, one of those fiblets told to make a child happy. But it was a lie, giving the girl false hopes. "Never know what you'll find here," she amended. "You could even be dreaming! This is, after all, a magical sort of place, like the kind in your dreams."

Was that really the best she could do? Well...yes, actually.

Rose smiled adoringly at the little girl. How could she not? She was completely precious, if a little accident-prone. Rose could easily see how this little Dora could grow up into the spunky ball of fire that Tonks turned into.

"It's okay, sweetie," she said, touching Dora's shoulder gently. "As long as you're not hurt. Here." Reaching from her tip-toes, Rose pulled down the ho-hos. She should probably insist on something better for her, and she would if tiny version of Dora stuck around for long. But one day of junk food wouldn't hurt her too badly, and it would keep up the story that she'd dreamed this adventure. "They don't taste one bit like wood!" she said with a grin. "They're chocolatey with cream inside and some cake taste and really, really good. You'll probably only want a couple, though, they're pretty rich, especially on an empty tummy."

She'd find her something healthier come lunchtime. Um. Honest!

After she'd handed Dora the package, she started picking up the meals that had spilled. She probably ought to grab one for herself, but she wasn't exactly feeling like eating. Not good, really. She needed to do a bit more of that, she supposed.

With the promise of chocolate, Dora was sold. And was hugging the box happily, pleased as punch about this dream being cake and sugar filled. "Only a few, pinky promise!" Which was a serious promise indeed from the little girl.

"Are you gonna eat breakfast too, Rose?" She looked up at her keeper for the day and smiled. Then had a brilliant idea. "We should have a picnic before we go get the dragons! With these cakes and tea and biscuits and little sandwiches!" Yes, that was a plan.

"What do you do when you're not in my dreams questing for dragons? Do you go to other people's dreams too? Will you come back tomorrow nite?"

Rose offered up her pinky for the proposed solemn promise. Every girl knew how serious a pinky promise was. You didn't break one and that was that. Dora would only be having two, maybe three. Which worked out well. "They come in packs of two, so why don't you have three and then I'll have the extra one? And then we'll leave a couple of packs for other people."

They needed drinks, though. The girl would have to get thirsty soon enough, and they could make it pretend 'tea'. Lord knew, Rose had her share of tea parties as a little girl. With dressed up stuffies too. "We have one more stop to make before we can throw a great tea party. Now we're going to go to the chemists' shop and see if we can't find anything fun to have as our tea." If nothing else, there'd be a couple of bottles of water. Brilliant. At least it would hydrate them.

As she started to lead the way out of the building, she grinned down at little Dora. "Course I do, I'm a Dream Weaver." The cheesy song started to play in her head and she couldn't help giggling. "We slip off in the night to make special princesses' dreams come alive, and then we sleep by day. It's hard work, you know."

Dora took the pinky, hooking hers with the older woman's and nodded. "Kay!" Said easily enough at the thought of having three of the yummy-looking chocolate cakes. "There are other people here! How'd they all get in my dream? Can we meet them? Are they all very nice?" For every answer that a grown-up gave her, Dora was quite capable of finding no less than three questions.

She walked with Rose, the box of ho-ho's under her arm and held carefully as not to drop them. "I like to pretend with water if I'm playing by myself." Sometimes tea parties had to be a one-person pretendy time, being an only child. Dora didn't mind, though. Boots clomp-clomped more, just a little bigger than her small feet were. "It sounds very much like hard work! But it's daytime now. Is it really still nitetime at home? I've been sleeping for a long time, then. I remember Mummy and Daddy tucking me in a long time ago!"

As they walked, Dora hummed a kids' tune to herself. And then stopped and grinned up at Rose. "If you're my Dream Weaver, then you know about my ability! I can change how I look!" To prove it, she was thinking about it really hard. And giggled as green polka dots appeared on her skin.

"Most of them are wonderful," Rose confirmed, looking around to see if any of her fellow captives were about. It was still early, but she'd discovered with empty stomachs and cold, hard beds, people didn't tend to sleep very late. "There's a couple you should watch out for, but I'll keep you safe. Can't have the dream turn into a nightmare, now can we?" Mostly, she meant Remy, but she couldn't imagine the jerk actually hurting a child.

Rose grinned at the girl's babbling. She took off at a mile a minute, all while standing still. "Oh, your dreams are always much longer than you remember them being. You'll wake up in the morning thinking that this only lasted a few minutes. You'll probably remember hunting dragons with me and maybe eating chocolate for breakfast. You might even remember a few more things that happen, but you won't remember it all."

Oh, she was getting good at this. Really good. In fact, she kind of liked it! And she was very, very grateful she'd already known about Tonks' ability because the green polka dotted skin was a little weird even knowing it could be done. Still, she squealed in delight and clapped her hands. "Oh, that's brilliant, Dora! Quite the ability to have, especially in a royal princess. You could use that to save the kingdom someday!"

Oh, Rose couldn't deny loving the feel of a little hand in hers. Maternal instincts were kicking into overdrive and she'd be making her mum turn gray if she found out Rose was now craving children at barely twenty. But her mum had been about her age when Rose was born, so what was the problem? Okay, other than the fact that she traveled through space all the time with a sometimes unpleasant but usually wonderful alien in a big blue box spaceship. Hmm.

"We, Princess Wizard Dora, are going to have tea in the most magical place here! We're going to my mueseum castle home and we'll sit on the steps and watch the day start up." Maybe they'd run into someone, or maybe everyone had already gone off to do their own things for the day. With the museum crowd, no one really knew.

Well. No. She knew what Sarah Jane and Sam were up to!

Did she stay here? "No, love, I only live here part of the time. When I take my vacation, I live in London, with a mum and neighbours and a boyfriend," Erm, sometimes, "and all sorts of things that you do every day."

"To the Museum Castle!" And she nodded lots, looking at the sky that was just now lighting up with the sun. "It'll be very pretty and fun watching the day start. I like doing that. And watching the sun go to sleep. It's funny to watch people when they're out and about. Me an' my Mum like to sometimes make up stories about them! Where they're going, what they're doing. It's fun!" If Dora only knew about all the people here, she would have enough real stories to last her a lifetime.

"When you on vacation, can I see you when I'm not sleeping? I'd be very good an you can meet my mum and dad and Charlie and Bill and everyone!" Dora thought about that, believing it to be very fun to have a grown-up friend who was so fun. "Ooo..a boyfriend." She giggled then, wrinkling her nose. "Boys are so silly though, Rose!"

"My mum and I do that, too," Rose said, settling herself and Dora on the steps in front of the museum castle. "Even now that I'm all grown up, we we sometimes come up with stories about the people we see when we're shopping or eating out. My mum does people's hair for a living and I started it when I was little, coming up with stories about her clients." Was she giving away too much about her real life to keep up the Dream Weaver appearance? Maybe.

Wouldn't it be funny if she and Tonks had passed by each other on the streets of London? It was something to consider that made her giggle. "You probably wouldn't see me even if I did run into you when you're awake. You don't remember your Dream Weavers when you're awake. Haven't you noticed you haven't seen me before?"

She sat next to Rose and started to take off her boots. "I wish there was grass around to run in." She liked the feeling of grass between her toes. Then Dora smiled up at Rose, "I hope my mum and I still get to when I'm grown up!"

Staring really hard at the older woman, Dora scrunched up her face a little. She was studying Rose in order to remember what she looked like. In order to remember her when she woke up. "Maybe that's cause I'm not lookin' properly. Gotta look better!"

Rose didn't realise how much she craved grass until Dora mentioned it. One didn't get an awful lot of it on the TARDIS, and sometimes on some planets, the grass was really best not walked around in barefoot. Including London! 'Please Pick Up After Your Dog' signs were often easily ignored. "You'll get to, if you let her know you still want to play it. I think mums think their kids are too grown-up to play with them when they get older, but really they still want to. My mum wishes I'd do more things with her now that I'm all grown-up." Well. Sort of grown-up.

Rose tapped her chin thoughtfully, then buffed the apples with her shirt tail and handed one to Dora. Then she started unwrapping the packages of ho-ho's, amused even with herself that she was having Hostess snacks for breakfast. With an apple, of all things. "You can try, Princess, but I don't know if it'll work. When you wake up, this will all seem like a faraway land. Like when Dorothy woke up in the Wizard of Oz." Though perhaps the magical little girl hadn't seen that movie. Hmm.

Of course Remus understood. Remus would. He seemed the type to embrace change and fight injustice. Considering the curse his own body had against him, why wouldn't he? "Remus is a very understanding sort, isn't he?" she said with a smile, reaching over to smooth Dora's ruffled pigtails. All the activity had taken its toll on the girl's hair, which had obviously been up since she'd fallen asleep that night.

In fact, they could stand to be straightened, and the maternal instinct in Rose had her sitting by Dora's side, taking down each pigtail in turn, smoothing it, and gently putting them back up as she talked. "I know you're not a cry baby, sweetie. Joshua must have said something to really hurt your feelings and that wasn't nice." She tucked the last elastic into place with a smile. "I'll bet Remus' story was just brilliant. He could write it down and give it to all children who change. Probably make a fortune."

Dora tried to stay very still so Rose could fix her hair, but was squirming a little by the time the older woman finished. "What's your favourite colour, Rose?" Asked with a grin. So she could surprise her with that colour and stuff.

She was giggling and nodding, "He tells very good stories, I think. And lotsa people would like it and buy all of his books up! He'd be like Dr. Seuss! Or the lady who wrote Mister Post Owl!" Remus could be an author, yes. "I want to be a ballerina when I grow up. Or an astronaut. Or a princess knight, like you!" Finishing her apple, Dora looked for someplace to put the core. She was going to eat her ho-ho, but decided that maybe they should save that for after looking for dragons.

Popping up, she grabbed Rose's hand to tug her inside. "We should make sure that dragons aren't hiding in your castle." And, she really wanted to see a museum!

"Pink," Rose replied, thinking in amusement of her room back at home. It had been a while since she'd spent a full night in there, and it was still the same shade of obnoxious pink it had been when she was Dora's age.

Rose listened attentively as Dora described her potential career choices, and grinned. "I think you'll make a beautiful ballerina, but you know something? Being an astronaut would be completely brilliant. Going into space, seeing the stars, meeting new people on new planets..." Of course, in Dora's world they hadn't quite managed that yet. But Rose knew. And if anyone could be the first human to make contact...well, without an alien's help, of course, it would be the ambitious Tonks.

Accepting the tug on her hand, Rose got to her feet and gathered up their mess. She put the ho-ho's in her hoodie pocket and then let Dora lead her into the museum. "Good thing you're here to help," she whispered conspiratorally. "Not sure I could take one on all by myself if I found it."

The kid's eyes got very wide as Rose said that her favourite colour was the same as Dora's. And Dora hadn't even told her that first! "Me too!" Excitedly said even as she was sort of scrunching up her nose in order to focus on turning just her hair a fun and bright pink colour. First one pigtail and then the other. There. That would keep them both happy.

"Maybe I can be the first astronaut ballerina! Other people in space like dancing too, right?" Everybody liked dancing, didn't they? It didn't even matter if they were very good or not. Leading Rose further in, she whispered back. Didn't want to scare the dragons if they were sleeping.

"I think Sarah dipped us." She nodded sagely, totally messing up the word serendipitous and not even knowing it. She had heard someone use it once and asked what it meant. She remembered that! Just not how to say it.

"How come the pictures are all yucky and stuff?" The pigtailed girl was observing how rundown things looked. "Why is the whole town like that?"

Rose's face lit up in delight as Dora's pigtails turned pink. "Beautiful, Miss Dora. That is, indeed, a colour fit for a princess." Even with all of the things Rose had seen, a human who could change her appearance at will was still a very special thing.

"Let you in on a secret? Some people in space love dancing! I have a friend who danced with me on his spaceship! Isn't that brilliant?" Okay, so it was a stolen spaceship. It still counted! "And that Doctor bloke? He's not a bad dancer either, even if he'll say he is." Remy's words again flickered through her mind and she shoved it aside, putting all of her attention on the tiny hand in hers and the girl it belonged to.

Sarah dipped us? Nope, Rose wasn't even going to ask. The translation between child and adult just sometimes shouldn't be breeched. So instead, she focused on the next question. "Some very bad people came and attacked the town," she informed Dora sagely. And sadly, it was true enough. Maybe the town had been like that before the residents had been kidnapped. But then, maybe they'd been the ones to do it. Or maybe they'd built it this way. Hmm. "We're trying to make it better, little by little. But some things, like the paintings and the statues? It's not very easy."

Her brilliant little Dora. She'd make a perfect contribution to any society, and Rose sincerely hoped the land of witches and wizards knew just how much. It really was disgusting in there, but the girl kept up a bright smile and made Rose smile in the process.

But her question made Rose stop and think. "I'm not sure why they'd do it," she said quietly. "It'd be just as easy to have people live in a beautiful land, wouldn't it?" Of course, it wouldn't be half as much torment for the people they'd captured, would it? But she wasn't about to say that to Dora. "I think it was probably very pretty before they got here, though. I'll bet the paintings and statues were all shiny and well taken care of. And there were probably people bustling in and out to see what the place offered. The building was probably shiny, too." Rose nodded down to the hard flooring that had probably once been clean and bright and now looked dull and dingy. "I'll bet the whole town was friendly and fun to live in."

But that had been long ago, if ever. If this place had ever been inhabited, it wasn't any longer. Not by anyone willing to stay, at least. She didn't say that either, though, and just continued following Dora around, opening windows instead.

She nodded at the thought of things being easier to have people live in a beautiful land. "Very easier! 'Cept then there be no characters in books!" It was something she had heard somebody else say, that difficult times built character. "Writers must have very very hard lives." Dora lamented briefly, but she was super grateful for it. Otherwise, how would there be all of the fun books that she and her parents read together?

Dora took out her wand then and waved it at one of the paintings. "Reparo." It was the right spell, but didn't work. The wand was broken, after all. A frown found her face briefly and the little girl shook her head. "Baaaad magic on the pictures! Have to be careful." Sneaking round to the last pair of curtains, she flung them back and looked around for bad magic stuff. But it was all clear.

"We're safe! Looks like just the pictures and statues didn't get to be unhexed." The six-year-old informed her keeper with a nod.

Rose gave a wistful smile, watching her young friend attempt to take on the magic that had gripped the paintings. Even at full strength, Rose wasn't sure Tonks could manage that. The power gripping this place was beyond anything most of them had dealt with before. And Dora was just a kid. Even if she did have magic coursing through her, she was young and inexperienced. Bright, yes, talented, maybe. But just a child.

A child with a broken wand, no less. "I think that's some pretty big magic there," she said quietly, moving to lightly stroke one of Dora's pigtails. "But it already looks a ton better in here, don't you think? All bright and cheery. Definitely an improvement."

They weren't safe. Here? They'd never be safe. But Rose had to have faith that the so-called management wouldn't harm these people while they were children. That faith just wasn't as easy to come by as she might have liked.

Leaning in, the girl looked around and nodded. "Definitely an improvement." Agreed with a smile up, completely unaware of any danger beyond that of what imaginary dragons could place upon them. Dora peered about again, making sure that she got all of the curtains and that no bad magic was lingering anywhere. After that, she looked back up at Rose.

"We should go find flowers now. And then get the others to hunt for dragons with us!" That was the plan, which Dora was a-okay with. But she saw something not too far off and wriggled away, running off to see what it was.

"Rose! There's treasure here!" Not so much treasure, but just an item from a display that had a little shine left on it. Mostly grime, but a little clean spot like a.."It's like a magic lamp!" Then the girl was reaching up, trying to take it down.

Ooooh no. Rose had seen what happened when little Dora tried to grab treasures and treats on her own. She went scurrying forward, her hand on the item before Dora could go and pull it down. "Here, let me help," she said simply, taking the somewhat shiny but mostly dingy and disgusting piece from over the little girl's head and putting it down to her eye level. Rose had never felt tall before this day.

"There we are, love," she offered, offering it to Dora. "Give it a wipe with one of the curtains, let's see what we've got here. No one will mind, I'm sure they'll come clean." Actually, she couldn't guarantee that, but nor did she care. It wasn't her house, this museum, and she certainly didn't like anything much about it, really. Go ahead, Dora, dingy up the curtains, spill things, leave crumbs. Worst thing that could happen was the so-called 'management' gave Rose a stern talking to. She'd love to see them try it.
