Who: Nymphadora and OTA
What: Dora is looking for her mummy and daddy
When: Day 19, 7am
Where: Around town; nearest location theatre
Rating: PG.
Status: Active

Nymphadora had woken up early in the morning, though that wasn't anything particularly new. She liked the early mornings and padding into the kitchen to see if her father was already awake and making breakfast. She loved helping him, especially when he made pancakes. That was when Nymphadora would make up different shapes and beg him to cook the pancakes in those shapes. After that, they'd wake up mummy and eat breakfast. So the girl woke up, all excited to do that.

Except, she didn't wake up in her bed. She didn't wake up to the bright coloured room of pinks and yellows, nor did she wake up with her favourite stuffed animal. She didn't wake up in her own house! What the heck! Frowning, she looked around for Charlie Weasley. Or maybe Bill Weasley. Maybe the Weasleys were over and the boys were playing a prank on her. Booted feet..ew, boots? Where were her ballet slippers? She was very into ballet right now. Even if she kept falling down. But booted feet clomped through the hall of the gymnasium straight outside.

This wasn't where she lived. Not at all. Frowning, Dora tugged on her pigtail, it changing by itself to a more mousy brown sort of colour, and she continued to wander outside. "Mummy!! Daaaadddy!" She kept wandering, not even quite sure where she was going. But she was very sure that she'd find Andromeda and Ted Tonks soon. Quite sure.

Rose hadn't slept well the night before, and had gotten up a lot earlier than she usually would. The events of the previous day were still streaming through her head. Made her completely restless, and not in any sort of good way. So when she got up, she changed back into the shirt and denims she'd been wearing the day before and slipped off before anyone could stop her. Namely the Doctor, but she knew Remus worried about her, too. Funnily enough, considering she worried about the both of them.

First, she vowed to stop at the theater. Maybe she could find something she and Selene had missed. Or maybe she could figure out why she'd spent the previous morning snogging one John Smith. Her cheeks turned pink as she closed in on the building.

But the flush faded when she heard the tiny voice calling out. Turning in surprise, she blinked at the sight of the tiny girl. While she'd read that the so-called management was bringing in children, she hadn't actually expected they'd be interacting. Nor did she expect they'd be brought in having no freaking clue that their mummies and daddies weren't around. "Are you lost, sweetie?" she asked, stepping closer to the tiny girl in very large boots.

Nymphadora watched the woman for a long minute, debating about whether she was a witch that her mum had told her to be careful of. But this woman wasn't old enough to look mean, nor did she look like the picture that Dora once saw. So she must be okay. "I think my mummy and daddy are lost." She nodded once firmly and then looked up hopefully at the woman. "Do you know where they are? Maybe they went to get something for breakfast? My daddy likes to make pancakes for me and Mum! I try to help but sometimes make a big ol' mess."

She liked to talk, this kid. But knew better than to blab about certain things at first. The pigtailed girl had accidentally done that with her cousin's friend, but got upset when he called her a liar. She didn't lie! Magic was too real! That friend was stupid. Thinking about it, the girl scowled a little and then shook her head. This woman hopefully wasn't stupid!

Oh, the poor thing. How to explain that she was kidnapped? Oh, when Rose got her hands on the people who'd put her here, she'd strangle them on her own. She'd thought taking a sixteen year-old was bad, but a little girl?

Kneeling in the dirt with little regard for her denims, Rose smiled at the girl in what she hoped was a reassuring manner. She hadn't baby-sat since she was fifteen, but she did like kids. Just didn't have much experience with them was all. "I'm not sure where they are," she admitted. "But I'm sure they'll turn up soon. My name is Rose, maybe you can help me out till we find them?" Even if it would be a few days or a few weeks or... Ugh. She refused to believe they'd be trapped long enough to actually watch these kids mature.

When Rose knelt down to Dora's level, the girl smiled brightly. It was always very nice when she could see the person that was talking. Not that she couldn't see them anyway, but it was nice not to have to crane your neck like one of those dinosaurs with the long necks. If she was going to be a dinosaur, Dora would want to be a triceratops. She liked the spikey things on their head. The fact that she didn't know where her parents were made the little girl frown a little though. "They wouldn't leave me." She explained to Rose, half in exasperation. So where were they?

Then her features lit up, because she totally had the answer. "They're playing Hide and Go Seek!" Duh, of course they were. Silly Dora. She reached out and tugged at Rose's hand. "We haveta fiiiind them." Naturally. Oh. And then she stopped suddenly and smiled. "Very nice to meet you, Miss Rose. I'm Dora."

There was only so long Rose could manage a hide-n-seek game with a girl whose parents weren't coming. Anxiously, she bit her lip. The little girl was adorable, with pigtails and light brown hair. The sort of child Rose herself wanted someday. Imagine raising a child on the TARDIS. The Doctor would flip!

"Let's look around," Rose said quietly. "Maybe we can find them." Oh, Rose Tyler, you were going to hell for lying to a six year-old. A white lie, certainly, one of those fiblets told to make a child happy. But it was a lie, giving the girl false hopes. "Never know what you'll find here," she amended. "You could even be dreaming! This is, after all, a magical sort of place, like the kind in your dreams."

Was that really the best she could do? Well...yes, actually.

The lie was taken, especially since she didn't think it was a lie, and she nodded. Talking about magic was the definitely perfect thing to say to Nymphadora, though. She was all smiles and giggles. It made even an unfamiliar area more familiar. "Are we going to Diagon Alley? Can we go to the book shop? But if it's in my dreams then it'd be made out of biscuits and Every Flavour Beans. Except for wood. I don't like wood, much. My favourite is grass. What's your favourite?" When Bertie Bott's said every flavour, they meant it.

Hand in Rose's, she looked up and then around again. "Where do you live, Miss Rose? And if I'm dreaming, then are you dreaming my dream too? Maybe if we think really hard we can dream up the biscuits. I am sorta hungry." Hopefully Rose wouldn't want to play the Quiet Game. Dora would lose for certain.

Diagon Alley? Every Flavour Beans? Foreign things to the muggle blond holding the girl's hand in her own. "Every flavour?" Choose your battles carefully, and Rose went for the beans. No one ever said she was good at covering up dream stories. "Every single flavor? Grass doesn't sound very tasty in a bean." Or in anything, actually. She'd never been one of the ones to sit and chew on grass at playtime. Gross.

"I live just over there," she said, pointing in the direction of the museum. "It's a great big building with stairs and pictures all over. It's a museum, actually, but my friends and I are staying there. Like a hideaway!" She tried to make it sound like a great and exciting adventure instead of the pit that it actually was. "I'll show you, too, but first let's see if we can't find you some breakfast." God, she hoped the supply had been replenished. Rose was used to just a snack bar for breakfast, but this girl likely wasn't. Pancakes? No. Not here in the big stupid box.

She started them walking towards the petrol station, where she knew there was usually some sort of food. If not, they'd go by the chemist's. There had to be something left, right? "Maybe I'm not dreaming," she said conspiratorally, "but instead, I'm just a character in your dream! A princess who ran away because she was tired of being treated like a doll! Or a serving girl who's been sent to find the Lady Dora and retrieve her back to the Museum Castle." Oh, she could weave a tale, indeed.

"Better than wood! Or bogies. Those are gross." It was very true, and she was nodding solemnly because of it. "Grass has a summer taste. Like sunshine!" Following Rose's point, Dora oo'ed. She was in awe. "It does look like a castle! Are there pictures and hidden passages? Can we play there soon?" After breakfast. She'd be good with even just cereal or something.

"Or you could be a knight! Ladies can be knights too, right? And you're here to join me on a quest! For..." Bouncing along, the pigtailed girl paused as she thought on what they were questing for. "Dragons! I'm a princess wizard." Of course. Oo! She stumbled a little over an untied shoelace but didn't pay attention. Dora was too busy digging in her pocket. "I even have my wand! Don't tell though." She giggled, putting a hand to her lips. She wasn't supposed to have one for five more years! It was the wand that Tonks had been 'given,' if one could call it that, Luna's wand. And it was wrapped up with string to keep it together.

"Princess Knight Rose and Princess Wizard Dora, on a quest to find the missing dragon."

Rose couldn't help giggling. As badly as she hadn't wanted an innocent child to be there, she was almost grateful this one was. She'd needed a distraction, and Princess Wizard Dora most certainly was. She was a little ball of sunshine and light where Rose had needed it most.

Stupid Powers That Be and their stupid ability to make her smile sometimes.

"Of course we can play!" she told the girl, using her brightest and sunniest voice. The Doctor and Jack would just love her bringing a little girl into the museum to play a game. "That? Is a super brilliant wand. I'm sure we can fight off most any enemy with that!" Bending, Rose picked up a long twig off the ground. "And every knight needs a sword, right? So now we should be extra protected, with your magic and my fighting skills."

While she was bent down, she reached out to tie Dora's shoelaces. Such big boots for such a tiny girl. "Can't find a missing dragon with loose laces, now can we? We'll need our shoes on good and tight in case we have to run from danger!"

"It's like a double protection spell from nitemares! My mummy and daddy taught me that spell. They're both very ace at magic." It wasn't a real spell per se that they had taught her, but helped quite a bit all the same. "My daddy didn't even know what magic was when he was my age!" She looked over at Rose with an expression that clearly read 'Can you believe that?'

She looked down at the boots then, wiggling her feet in the dirt road. "I don't like them. I'd rather have my slippers." Forgetting that, Dora looked up and laughed. "We have to run to danger, Rose! How else we gonna be good knights and wizards and help? What if the dragon is one that hasn't been tamed yet!" Of course, when you're six and have great parents, the danger you're running to or from is all imaginary anyway. The troubles in wizarding England were only just brewing yet, so Dora hadn't a care in the world. Beyond trying not to break things. Or herself. Much more difficult than it sounded!

It occured to Rose a few minutes later than it should have, but her mind put two and two together. This little girl believed in magic because she lived with it. "Is Dora short for Nymphadora, maybe?".
Those jerks. Not just kids, but the kids of people who'd already been trapped in this place. A new breed of evil. Some sort of science that had turned their friends into their younger selves? Or were these children the real thing?
"Well, Princess Wizard Dora, we have some very important work to do. But first, some food. No pancakes, I'm afraid." She pulled the door to the petrol station open and waved her hand around. "Anything you want, fair princess, those with magic and royalty don't pay for a thing in this kingdom. They can even have sweets for breakfast."

A sheepish smile appeared when Rose called her out on her name, "Yeah. But I think I like Dora better. Do you think Mummy will be sad?" She didn't want to hurt her mother's feelings, but sheesh. Being six years old and dealing with a name like that was tiring.

Dark brown eyes widened to the size of saucers as they entered the petrol station and Rose told her that she had run of the place, food-wise, "This is a dream if you're telling me I can have sweets for breakfast!" She looked over at her knight companion, grinning, and then took off into the aisles to find something good.

Along the way, there was something that sounded like cans falling to the ground and Dora making an "Oops" sort of sound. She had been climbing one of the shelves to reach something that was taller than she could reach and knocked over some of the canned foods. Okay, a lot of the canned foods.

Rose Tyler was going to make a terrible mum someday. Instead of watching out for the girl-a younger version of her spunky new friend, she realised-she'd let her run off by herself. And in big clunky boots, no less. If she hadn't ruined her future in parenting by lying to young Dora, she certainly had by letting her get hurt.

"Dora!" she called, hurrying to the girl and the big mess around her. "Oh, sweetie, are you okay? I'm sorry, you could've called me over, I would've helped.". She began looking her charge over for bumps, bruises, scrapes, and general owies.

Rose would be a wicked mum. She couldn't possibly know that the witch she met first as an adult was clumsy since the day she could walk! There were a few minor bumps, nothing serious. And Dora didn't mentally look any worse for wear. "Sorry for the mess." She smiled sweetly, hoping that it would work and she wouldn't get in trouble. It worked on her parents! Least with small things like this.

"Can I have those?" She pointed then to the ho-ho's on the top shelf. "They look funny. Like logs, with chocolate!" Wait. If they looked like logs..Dora scowled a little then. "They won't taste like wood, will they?"
