Oh my! What an experience! I can't say that I would ever choose to switch places with my child self. But now at least I can say that I have some happy memories where there weren't many before. Thank you everyone who took the time to watch out for the younger versions of us all!

Thank you both very much for letting my younger self stay with you the past few days. You both were very kind and I hope I...that is she... wasn't too much trouble (or got under foot too much). As a thank you, I'd like to treat you both to dinner. I can either cook for you at my apartment, or we can go out. Your choice!

Briar? Are you back as well?

It was a pleasure to have you with us. You weren't any trouble at all, honest.

I'm relieved to hear that. I'm happy to say that I have some very fond (though hazy) memories of being at Sutton Cottage. I cannot thank you enough for that.

I'm glad we were able to give you that.

What is it like? Does it feel as though it was something that happened in your childhood, or does it feel more recent than that?

It's a little hard to explain. It definitely doesn't feel as though living in Sutton Cottage happened last week, but the memory itself feels out of place. If it wasn't for the fact that you and Nikolai and everyone else were here to confirm that it happened, I may question if I didn't make the whole thing up.

That makes sense. Vallo has thus far been kind enough to spare me from any unexpected age slips, thank god, but it seems like that's a fairly common result of these time displacements.

I hope that it continues to do so. Though, if it does, I'll be sure to watch out for you the same way you did for me.

Have you given any thought to dinner?

All grown up. Attempting to put out all the fires my younger self set over town. Not literally, but, might as well be. How are you?

Oh no! Is there anything I could help with?

I wouldn't dream of getting you involved in my apology tour, but I'll be working on pruning the shakkan back this afternoon - probably for several hours - if you want company.

I don't mind. The offer is there if you decide you want it.

Yes, I think I would like that. It might be nice to chat again as adults with a better understanding of who and where we are.

Agreed. I know I have a lot of questions, and I promise I'm better company as an adult. I smell less, for one thing.

Anyway I think Chime misses you. She's been sulking.

The children where I grew up used to throw rotten fruit and stones at me. You didn't do either of those things, so that made you exceedingly better company from the start.

We can't have that! I'll just have to come and visit again!

Well, then they were stupid kids with very little imagination. I could come up with twelve brilliant things to do with your powers before breakfast. It wasn't exactly Mr Popular at that age either, if it helps.

Chime will be very pleased.

Thank you, Briar. That's very kind of you.

Does she enjoy treats? What kind of treats would be appropriate?

Oof, where do I start. She eats everything. Actual food, non-food, anything she thinks is pretty. She even had a go at one of Edwin's books a while back. Her favourite is probably precious metals or minerals; which makes her bloody expensive to feed, you can imagine. But she'll snap up anything bright coloured or sparkly. Composition doesn't really seem to matter, she just throws up anything she can't digest, and then I sell whatever she hawks up, since it just looks like pretty glass shapes.

Well, I don't think I can do precious metals, unfortunately. However, I did find some pretty sea glass while walking the beach. Maybe she'll like that?
