If anyone knows of anyone else who might be hiring a good secretary or assistant, would you mind letting me know? I'm very organized, a fast typist (faster on the typewriter, not terrible on this computer thing), an observant listener, and even better at fielding calls and not letting callers bully me into interrupting your meetings. I'd be happy to provide interested parties with a CV, though I don't know how much my experience back home translates to experience here.

Also, hello. My name is Tuni. I've been here for a short while so far and I'm still getting the lay of the land. Any suggestions are always welcome.

REMUS

Just checking in. Are you remembering to eat three square meals a day? Are you sleeping all right? Have you figured out the moon cycle and its effects here yet? Can I help you with anything? I'm afraid without Harry here, you're going to have to let me mom you, instead.

Unfortunately, I don't have a job to offer you, but I've no doubt you'll be snapped right up with those qualifications.

And I'd introduce myself, but I'm told we may already be familiar with each other, in a way. It's lovely to see this version of you, darling.

That's all right, I appreciate the encouragement nonetheless.

I am familiar with you, or at least my version of you. I think maybe you aren't as familiar with me, though? I hope I get the chance to change that.

The version of you I’m aware of wasn’t a witch nor particularly interested in getting to know us, from what I understood. I would absolutely like the chance to change that, though; Lily speaks very highly of you.

From what I've gathered, I'm eternally glad to have come from my world and not that one. I can't say I don't have my miserable days, but it sounds like I may have been a perpetually miserable person elsewhere.

I'm still getting my bearings here, but I did spot a tea shop that looked worth trying, if you'd be interested?

I won't armchair theorise on the reasons why that may be - I'm certain that's beyond my understanding - but I'm very grateful you've come from your world as well. We all have miserable days, but fewer and further between is best.

I would love that, yes. Name the time and place and I will be there.

It's definitely beyond mine, as well.

Tomorrow at noon? I'll have to double check the name of the place, though. I know I saw it, but I can't remember what it was called.

Tomorrow at noon works perfectly. Message me when you've found the shop's name, and I'll be there.

I'm looking forward to it.

I also probably should apologize in advance for how many questions I will probably have about your world.

Oh, darling, if that's the case, I should apologize for how likely I am to talk your ear off in answer to those questions. And I may have a few questions of my own, to be entirely honest.

That's all right. I very much enjoy both talking and hearing other people talk, so we'll probably not want for topics of conversation.

Well, I'm sure we'll have plenty to chat about, then - probably enough for several meetings!

You might be surprised how well experience translates.

I'm Pepper, if you like I can give you an assist with finding some job options. I also personally have two administrative openings.

That is definitely a relief to hear. I'd take any help, honestly, and am very interested in speaking with you about your openings.

I'm sure we can find you something you'd be happy to do here.

Would you like to come see the businesses so you can decide whether or not you'd be interested? We could start with Stark Industries and work our way down in size and energy.

Something I'd be happy doing would be a very welcome bonus.

That would be lovely, honestly. How many businesses do you have here?

Several. My husband, Tony, and I have Stark Industries Vallo, which is primarily a technologies corporation with community-supporting interest. I have 1616 Consulting & Staffing, where I pair employers and potential employees, and vice versa, as well as personally consult with businesses on a variety of issues. I also have a temporary or permanent interest in multiple businesses in Vallo, so you have options.

I said work our way down in size and energy because SIV isn't a traditional business environment, though I do try. You wouldn't be expected to take on any of the projects (unless you found you had an interest in any or your own), so it would be administrative in intent, but if you've ever worked with or known any passionately creative types, especially inventors, "administrative" has to covers the natural chaos that comes with the quirks of creatives. Some of that chaos includes hearing things explode and continuing on with your day.

1616 Consulting & Staffing would be less chaotic on a daily basis, which makes for a peaceful office environment, but it would be an office environment you were alone in much of the time. There are clients who are handfuls however, so it isn't without challenges.

You've managed to build quite a repertoire here, it seems. I'm honestly impressed. My personal experience has mainly been working in an incredibly mundane office setting where I spent eight hours a day doing my job and also wishing I could be alone in the office because the people I worked with were metaphorical ogres. Which I realize now I probably shouldn't be saying to another potential employer, but here we are.

Where would I be needed most?

I can most certainly vouch for Pepper up there. She's a gem and will help you find the perfect fit.

How have you been settling in so far?

That's very good to know, and I like the sound of being able to find something I'd enjoy instead of just something that pays the bills.

Decently, I think. It's definitely an adjustment, and even more so suddenly being separated from someone who would normally be depending on you. I think that's the hardest bit to wrap my head around.

Absolutely. It makes life a great deal more enjoyable that way. You'll have to let us know how everything goes.

I imagine you must miss him quite a bit.

I will. [...] I hope I have a chance to let you all get to know this version of me here, in general.

As someone who was convinced I just never wanted kids, at all, he's pretty much become my entire world. I think learning how to not have to take care of a toddler is harder than accepting the existence of multiple worlds.

I'd like that very much. I can make myself available just about any time you'd like.

I know it's not nearly the same, but there's a lovely animal shelter here with a lot of pets looking for a home if you'd like a fuzzy friend to help redirect some of that energy.

Until the job prospects are more cemented, I'm pretty free myself.

I never did have a pet of my own at Hogwarts, so maybe it's time to change that. What do you think would be the neediest? I think I'd like to be needed right about now.

Why don't you join us for dinner sometime this week? I can introduce you to Carol.

If you're looking for something needy, I definitely wouldn't recommend a cat, as they're fairly independent. A dog perhaps? There are some animals in the shelter with medical conditions that need help that often aren't adopted because of that.

I'd say I'm grazing more than I'm having actual meals but I'm doing a good job of it. As far as sleep is concerned, I haven't been sleeping at my very best without the aid of potions. The effects of the moon are exactly the same as far as I can tell. For that reason and so many more, we're very lucky James and Lily are here. [...] Well, it does seem I am a bit more under the weather than I should be three days past but it's likely just stress.

I've been feeling a lot of pent up domestic energy myself. You would think both of us would have enough to worry about now but I find that I'm constantly feeling like I've left the kettle on. I expected we'd maintain course for at least another sixteen years or so but here we are, both empty nesters already as well as nestless.

And you, Tuni? Eating, sleeping, how's the lunar cycle treating you, can I help?

You know that none of that answer makes me not want to move you into my flat at Morningside so that I can keep a better eye on you, you know. You need to eat, keep your strength up, especially if the full moon hits a bit harder here than home, what with you still feeling under the weather and all.

I'm eating, but I keep waking up in the middle of the night feeling like I've forgotten to tuck Harry in. It takes me awhile to get back to sleep afterward. [...] I'm glad you have James and Lily here to help you with the things I can't.

Would you let me cook for you sometimes? I need something that feels somewhat normal, even if it's just once a week or so.

Sounds to me like you need a sleep potion or two for the same reason I do. I'm happy to share. [...] For me, falling asleep has been the main challenge. Just before I drop off, I swear I can hear him start to cry and it jolts me wide awake.

Not that I wasn't already doing a bang up job of it before second year but I can only imagine how much more damage I could do to myself now. Or others, if I escaped containment. Speaking of, actually, I'd prefer not to roam the forests even accompanied by the two of them until we know more about what we might encounter. I could use some help there if you're feeling up to it. It turns out that's not an easy thing to slip into casual conversation with strangers.

Absolutely, as often as you like. A touch of normalcy would do us both a world of good. Easing some of this homesickness might help us to better find our footing. Sounds like you're on the right track, reaching out for a job. I should find something distracting, too.
