Genya told me I need to write a proper introduction. So
1. Give name and origin
2. Apologize for previous entry
3. Explain relations/establish self
4. Announce desire for employment
5. Establish experience
6. Salutation
7. Insert footnotes

Hello. I am David Kostyk, and I have learned that "where is your nitroglycerine?" is not a traditional greeting in this world. I've also learned that the problem I needed nitroglycerine to solve is no longer a problem1.

I'm Genya Safin2's husband, a friend and colleague of Nikolai Lantsov3, a Grisha Fabrikator4, and a recent transplant to Vallo. Since everyone with power isn't automatically drafted into an army here, I'm now looking for a lab position. I've been employed as a scientist, engineer, and general problem solver since childhood. My previous experience is primarily in weapons development, but I would prefer to turn my skills toward something that will actually improve the world rather than destroy it. I would appreciate any help that can be offered in seeking such employment. Thank you.

1I would still like to be able to explode things for testing purposes. Where one problem is solved, another tends to appear.
2Grisha Tailor5, most beautiful woman in any universe, titanium spine, much more likeable than me
3engineer
4Grisha Fabrikators, also called Materialki, come in two types: Durasts and Alkemi. Durasts are capable of manipulating solid matter down to its tiniest forms, using the mind and often aided by gestures for focus
5Tailors are Grisha capable of manipulating living matter who use their gifts to change people's appearances. Genya is the best of them.

There's probably going to be plenty of nerds offering you up lab potions and access to materials, but if you need nitroglycerine or other items like it in the future, I know a guy.

Hi, I'm Keith, and I appreciate the footnotes.

Thank you.

Good to meet you, Keith. Not everyone does, for some reason. I would think keeping information organized would be useful for everyone.

Good to meet you too, dude. It's a recent thing for me to be into it, but organization is the only reason I'm not constantly confused about where I'm suppose to be - whether it's to be at work or in a parking lot somewhere knife fighting someone.

Is knife-fighting in a parking lot a usual thing for you?

Fairly. I have to schedule it or I can't keep up with my grudges properly.

They're so easy to do with these devices. I realized belatedly that I would need to make a note on Nikolai, and there was no tedious erasing and renumbering to fuss with. I just wish it were a little larger and that I could sketch on it.

Because I've seen enough of what science can do to kill people and advance people in power. Line of inquiry exhausted and so is my conscience. I'm more interested now in seeing what science can do to improve lives and advance people who actually need advancement.

This is a place to do exactly that. Not only does there not seem to be much in the way of a ruling upper class, but there are enough people who employ a decent system of -- um, checks, balancing?

I like this system where I don't have to pander to a monarch or a general for research funding. (No offense intended, Nikolai.)

A smiley day to you as well?

I developed the habit of using footnotes when writing for publication. They're good for preventing the main text from becoming cluttered while still explaining things for those who need them. Also excellent for citing sources of information and scholarship.

Hello, Mr. Kostyk. I appreciate how organized and detail-oriented you are. My name is Mel Medarda. I work with the DOA on ensuring Outlanders have the resources they need to thrive. There is a science department within the DOA that might be a good fit for you, but there are also private workshops available. If you struggle to find the right fit, let me know and I can reach out to some local labs that don't have access to the network.

Thank you, Ms. Medarda, for your greeting and for the lead. Does the science department prefer in-person or written communication for initial inquiries? And would I require a letter of introduction from an established citizen?

Written inquiry is more than fine, but if you want to get started right away, you're welcome to come in person. I'm unfortunately not aware who leads that department. I believe that Tony Stark is involved however. Also a letter isn't required but it can't hurt. They may double check your credentials against known information about your world, simply because the work can be dangerous.
