It wasn’t horrible, it was even bad, it was simply irritating. She couldn’t go anywhere before school or after school. Simply there and back over and over and over again. It had been a day of that and already Sabrina could see herself going absolutely stir crazy with it. But she wasn’t going to back down. She wasn’t removing the curse from the Vorerra kids and it wasn’t like that would get her out of grounding either.
There wasn’t any point in huffing and puffing around the mortuary either because she knew Dan wasn’t going to budge and it really took too much effort to bother with. But she did let out a long scream into the pillow when she fell down onto Nick’s bed.
“Being grounded is stupid.”
"So is getting kicked out of school," Nick replied, sighing. "Come here," he said, gesturing for Sabrina to actually sit next to him because screaming wasn't a long term solution. "I know there's people sticking up for me, but I'm not going back."
The school had a variety of levels of instruction, including some that went past high school, but the Academy had become a university in Vallo and that was sufficient when it came to studying. To be fair, Nick had been considering this for a bit now, as he was quickly learning he was not Sabrina with her ability to balance a dozen things happening in her life at once.
But the choice had been taken away from him, at least temporarily, and that had cemented his decision in the event that the option to continue on at Geliara returned. "I'd say you shouldn't have hexed them, but…"
He smirked. He had appreciated the gesture.
She’d had every intention of continuing to lay down and pouted at him when he gestured for her to shift, but him saying that he wasn’t going back had her moving. “Why don’t you want to go back?”
Sabrina knew he loved learning and that one of his favorite parts of Vallo was all of the new magic that he was getting to explore. She couldn’t understand why he’d want to give that up. Maybe she should have fed Aidan and the rest of them to her hounds. Technically she still could. It’d probably add significantly more time to her grounding but it could be worth it.
“You love learning.”
"As long as the university's here, I'm alright," Nick replied. "Not all of us can attend four schools and juggle ten other roles at once," he added, exaggerating. Slightly. "And… I'm angry," he admitted. "There's no way they can really think I orchestrated and was responsible for everything." But they sure seemed intent on letting the blame fall entirely on him.
“It’s just two and I don’t have any roles.” Not really. Sabrina poked him in the side before moving so she could wrap her arms around him as she leaned against him. “You should be angry because they just let you be the fall guy. Probably to save themselves the headache of having to discipline the others and deal with their influential families.”
Which was another reason she wasn’t undoing the hex. They deserved to have some actual consequences. But okay. He was going to still do the university so it wasn’t as completely dire as she’d first thought.
“I’m going to miss having you there.” It had been nice to go to school together, have classes together and walk from class to class together. “But I get why you want to write that place off now.”
"That was nice," Nick said. "But you're gonna keep taking classes at the university? And there isn't long left in this semester anyway." He didn't care about the grades or assessments even though he was a model student, unlike Aidan, but he had cared about learning. Still, there was a chance he could work something out with one of the covens. Not everyone was willing to bend to Vorerra. In the meantime, he had all sorts of magic from multiple worlds to learn.
He'd manage. Probably better than she'd handle being grounded.
"I can't believe you're actually grounded," Nick replied. Though it showed how close Dan and Sabrina had become really, as she had accepted that grounding.
She was going to keep taking classes at the university and it was her last year at Geliara so it wasn’t like they had that much longer there together anyway. Sabrina was just annoyed that Aidan had gotten his way and Nick had gotten the brunt of his ridiculousness. She’d been trying to deal with him on her own but maybe she needed to go to the Headmistress and put in an actual complaint about the other boy.
“He’s very disappointed in what I did,” Sabrina murmured. Which, okay, that did make her feel a little bad. Not about what she’d done to Aidan and the others, but the fact that Dan was disappointed didn’t exactly sit well with her. She still wasn’t going to undo anything though.
Wallowing in her grounding sounded better. Plus it wasn’t like she couldn’t see Roz while she was grounded. Or at that her and Nick couldn’t share a room during her sentence. So eh. It wasn’t too bad. She could handle this for a week.
"Had you ever been grounded before?" Nick asked. It didn't seem like a thing Hilda or Zelda would do. Zelda seemed more like the type to force Sabrina to do something she wouldn't otherwise participate in and Hilda seemed more like the type to make baked goods and try and talk things out.
Sabrina paused, trying to think if she ever had been grounded before. "I don't think so?" It was a very mortal punishment.
"Aww your first grounding," Nick said, teasingly. "I should get us milkshakes later to celebrate." Of course, he'd never had the chance to be grounded, and even though it was weird that Sabrina was, it was nice that she had people who cared that much.
"I hate Aidan," he added. Which was random, but related.
“I will love you forever if you can smuggle in some milkshakes.” Because a week without going out for burgers and milkshakes with her friends was going to suck. Still worth it though.
Her expression softened some at his other words though. She hated that boy as well and Sabrina felt horrible for Aidan’s fixation on her being one of the reasons he’d focused on trying to hurt Nick as well. “I’m sorry he’s ruined things.”
"I mean, what kind of boyfriend would I be if I couldn't smuggle in milkshakes?" Nick asked, before shrugging. "Well, he couldn't ruin anything that's really important. Because he never stood a chance with you. I just let myself get caught up in proving to him that I could fight better than him."
“You pretty much do everything better than him,” Sabrina muttered, moving to snuggle up against him. “But you’re right he didn’t and it was never a competition because he was never even a consideration. Plus you pretty much caught all of my attention when we sat together that first time at the Academy.” It hadn’t been love back then, just an immediate infatuation, but he’d featured in her dreams plenty after her trial run at the Academy.
“Do you think I should take the hex off?”
"Pretty much?" Nick asked, raising a brow as he reached for Sabrina. "And of course he was never a consideration. He's an ass, and you said no." Of course he'd gone back and forth with her, but pure flirting was different. As far as he could tell, Aidan didn't flirt, he just expected to get Sabrina because he wanted her. Asshole.
"Give it another day," he suggested. "Maybe two. He should leave you alone after that. And me."
Nick’s flirting had been appreciated and he’d never pushed, had even helped her when she’d been with Harvey and when the two of them had first broken up. She’d never forget that he’d put himself in danger trying to protect the mortal because she’d asked when the Greendale 13 were on the loose and reeking havoc. But he was probably right. At least about her undoing the hex.
She wasn’t so sure that Aidan would leave her alone after or not. But he was in for a rude awakening if he didn’t.
Sabrina opened her mouth to reply to that but blinked, nothing quite coming out as she spotted what looked like a spearhead hanging in the middle of the air. “Um….that wasn’t there before, right?”
Nick turned his attention from Sabrina to what Sabrina was staring at. "No, no it wasn't… Do you recognize it?" Was that something from home or one of the Vallo covens sending another message? Given recent happenings, Nick wasn't down with just touching a random floating spearhead.
“I think it's the spear. Like...the one we needed.” The one that was supposed to be able to kill the Dark Lord. She wasn’t sure if she should touch it or not. She had celestial blood in her veins, she’d found that out when dealing with the stupid vampire. Would it be able to hurt her too?
Right. If that was the case... Nick moved away from Sabrina and reached for the spear, as he had no such celestial blood in him. Even so, he was a bit nervous as he took hold of it, careful not to cut himself, his hot pink nails on full display as he did so. But nothing happened, and it didn't like turn on him and stab him so he supposed that was good.
"Huh."
“It better not be a forewarning that he’s going to be coming here,” she muttered as she peered over Nick’s shoulder at it. Because they weren’t giving him any warning. Just stab and be done with it. “Also can you like...store it somewhere.” She didn’t want to chance cutting herself.
"Yeah," Nick said, very carefully getting off the bed and then finding a towel to wrap the spear in before putting it in an otherwise empty drawer. "Don't go in here," he cautioned. "Whatever we decide to do with it, I'll handle it."
It didn't seem that Sabrina was going to argue with him but he was going to err on the side of caution.
"And hopefully it's just here because this is Vallo?"
It better just be Vallo. There was already one Lucifer Morningstar around and that was more than enough for Sabrina. Especially when she preferred the version that was currently there. She fell back against the bed and sighed.
“I won’t go in it.”
Not unless she absolutely had to. Which would only happen if he showed up. And hopefully that wasn’t going to happen.
“Can we have those milkshakes now?” Was she pouting? Yes.
"I think we better have milkshakes after that," Nick agreed, climbing onto the bed and leaning over to kiss her before he left. "Your usual?"
Sabrina held onto his necklace for a second, wanting to kiss him again and for it to linger before he headed off. “Mmhmm. I’ll be here.” Because she couldn’t go anywhere.
Grounding was stupid.
