Elsie let out a small noise akin to a mewl, with her hands wound about his shoulders. "It's a good surprise!" she protested with a laugh, squirming against him. "At least, it was."

Wriggling out of Elliot's grasp, she brought his hand up to her lips to kiss and clasped it against her. "Although I probably will enjoy it most," she acknowledged, smile turning rueful.

She led him by the hand up to a familiar storefront. "Mr Fortescue happened to learn of our… mmm, thwarted anniversary plans, shall we say?" She did, after all, make her lunchtime pilgrimage to the parlour nearly every week, and October had been a frightfully hectic month.

Leaning against the door, Elsie produced from her pocket a key, which she demonstrated with flourish even though her cheeks were a dull pink now. "And he was kind enough to prepare for us our own private sundae bar." But now she was not entirely certain how Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour after hours could quite compete with the whispered promises her husband had moments ago made and wondered if it had been such a good idea after all.

"It's silly," she admitted, the key vanishing into the lock before she nudged it open with her hip. Curling both hands into the material of his shirtfront, Elsie tugged Elliot in after her, stretching up on her toes to kiss him.

"Though Mr Fortescue was very clear our new year's resolution should be to make more time for each other." Smiling against his lips, she said between kisses, "Poppycock. We obviously can't stand each other."

Elise was enough of a gift and her lips were enticing enough to pull his gaze off of the wonder that was a fully stocked Fortescue’s. Elliot’s eyes shut in adoring, drunken bliss, and his arms wrapped tightly around her as they somehow managed to fumble into the ice cream parlour. What a bloody good idea, his wife was so thoughtful, and it wasn’t until his hand slipped with the place mat under it (after he’d propped Elise onto one of the smaller tables lining the storefront) that he managed to pull away from her.

“It’s brilliant,” Elliot proclaimed, feeling light, feeling really bloody happy. He looked over to the ice cream and toppings and fun. Did he have to put her down? Could he carry her over there?

...would it be rude to have sex in the parlour?

Yes, yes, terribly rude! Elliot managed to help Elsie back to the floor, though his hands made little way of removing themselves from her waist.

“Nope, can't stand you at all,” he said, having come behind her, his chin resting on her shoulder for only the few seconds his lips could resist her neck. "Fortescue is so wise. He should tell fortunes or provide counseling over mint chocolate chip sundaes."

One of her hands held his clasped to her waist, while the other slid up to rest against the side of his face. "Mhmm," Elsie murmured noncommittally in response to Elliot, a little too absorbed in his touches and persistent lips when not speaking, and also ice cream. A mint chocolate chip sundae did sound like a marvellous topper to the evening (before the real dessert, of course), but Elsie was wondering if she should honour the spirit of the night, and choose something new, something different—something bolder. If, in fact, things such as ice cream could be considered bold.

But while she was wondering if she was really quite foolhardy enough to try something dubiously named Sinnamon, or perhaps the Nice Ice Mice, something Elliot had said a moment ago suddenly seemed to echo in her ear. Elsie had thought about being a bit bolder this evening, hadn't she? The three (was it really three? She was positively a lush) glasses of wine certainly seemed to think so. She smiled a mischievous smile that did not look quite so out of place on Ellsinore Branstone Alderton's face as it should have and lifted her hand to tap her finger against her cheek.

"Although, I suppose…" she started with a slight song in her voice, "that did used to be the case… once upon a time."

Wiggling to turn around in his arms and face him, she ran her hands up his chest, curling into loose fists at his shoulder.

"What, do you suppose, made me standable?" Elsie asked innocently, looking up at him from under thickly lashed eyes.

His cheeks turned redder from his alcohol-induced flushed shade, though Elliot would surely blame it all on the wine. He knew he was caught, even though her hold on him was barely there, and his arms wrapped her tightly to him. She was bad, this wife of his, knowing that she had him in the right state to get him to speak so freely about things that he, again, would vehemently deny.

"Oy," he let out, rocking them back and forth, "you know I've fancied you since fifth year."

Elliot's face scrunched, feeling that familiar rush of embarrassment that any good fifteen-year-old did when admitting feelings, especially to the pretty girl in a blue bow. Were his ears hot? She had to have known, right? Not that he exactly had, but what bloke made the effort to go out of his way and pester a girl he didn't fancy? Not exactly the best tactic, but teenage boys were some of the dumbest things on the planet...

"But I was an idiot and pulled your pigtails," he admitted. Elliot's hand moved up her back to take a gentle handful of her hair. "I guess that's not such a bad thing now..."

Elsie's eyes grew wide and she brought a hand to her open mouth, even though her breath hitched when she felt him grab her hair. Her heart thumped even as she tried, perhaps unsuccessfully, to hide the smirk growing on her face.

"Oh dear," she breathed, eyes gleaming.

For you see, Elsie had developed a theory over the years that perhaps Elliot's feelings for her had not sprung from being reintroduced, but from an earlier time. She couldn't quite put her finger on what sparked this little conspiracy, but he was very reticent to relive their Hogwarts years, not that she blamed him—school was not a fond memory for many people, and he had been absolutely cruel to her.

But in a rare moment of egotism, she wondered… Early in their relationship, she'd noticed he had a strangely sharp memory when it came to little details about herself, things she hadn't yet consciously revealed to him. And yes, there was that ridiculous saying about boys pulling the hair of girls they liked.

Of course, there hadn't been any of that until after they'd begun dating, but…

Since, Elsie had tried in the moments she suspected his guard was down to pry the truth out of him: when he was half-asleep, after a good meal, or over the heads of their children as they listened to the wireless, and so on. And mostly, Elliot gave her a Look and changed the subject, perhaps sigh loudly (long-sufferingly), or divert her through more physical means, but he'd never admitted to it.

"How does that feel?" she asked from behind her hand. "Are you about to pass out?"

Sliding that hand up his shoulder, to the nape of his neck, Elsie pressed closer and whispered, "Should I be concerned?"
