Liara T'Soni can embrace eternity ([info]theshadowbroker) wrote in [info]valarnet,

If one more person makes me talk about those things, I think I might crack. Why did I have to discover one of those? Why not just a nice stone tablet or a burial site or anything but an idol like that?

What exactly did you find?

Ah. Well. It was. Well, it was open to interpretation, given the place it was found and the time period it came from, but my team seem to think it was a... fertility idol.

A very graphic one.

So you've been fielding some graphic questions about this idol, I'm assuming.

It's all people want to talk about normally, isn't it?

I don't know! People are... confusing to me. I'm much more at home with my artefacts and books.

It's all right. People aren't exactly simple.

Color me curious. What idol did you find?

Some form of... fertility idol. An embarrassing one with things.

Few things embarass me anymore. Pretend the things are something else.

How would that work? Every time I try, one of my team comes up with something even worse!

I would try to outdo them.

If only to fluster you more

I'm going to die of embarrassment, I can see it coming.

I'm not going to answer it! I'd get all flustered and embarrassed and fall over all my words and... and... dammit.

You'll never get better about it if you don't try. I'm honestly curious.

It has nothing to do with you being adorable.

How does dinner sound?

If you're interested in that sort of thing. A woman and a stranger on the internet.

Isn't everyone strangers at some point? We can get to know each other during the time we spend together.

And maybe I can learn a little about talking to people in the process. It couldn't hurt. Unless I really say something wrong

How about you pick a place and we can meet there? You might be more comfortable that way.

And you don't have to suffer my driving

My opinion of who? The people constantly asking me terrible questions?

The artifact and the theories about it.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]theshadowbroker

It's certainly some kind of idol, but my theories would be more along the lines of it representing a hero of some kind. It's quite common for factors to be exaggerated to almost inhuman proportions, which would also explain why the figure seems to be carrying a weapon of some sort.

...Of course, heroes could become fertility idols too, if they were particularly... potent in that department... maybe it all loops around. The past is a confusing place.

That is fascinating. I prefer to look to the future myself, but I understand you need to understand the past to understand the future.

Without the past, we can never understand how far we've come. If we don't pay it any attention, we constantly make the same mistakes, over and over again.

Well. Yes. They're certainly not fun to find, and I--
