The 2018 Pulitzer Prize winners had some fantastic stories about the last year. The use of social media in reporting the California fires kind of reminded me of this forum. For all the strange things that happen here, this place is rather ideal for organizing resistance and relief efforts. Don't you think?

I had no idea they handed out so many prizes.

They do! The Pulitzer Prizes are kind of like the Oscars of the literary world. It wouldn't be fair to judge a national newspaper article against a fiction novel, so they created separate categories.

It absolutely makes sense now I'm thinking about it... I guess I'd just never thought of it before now.

I can understand that. It's definitely one of those things that might surprise you on how much you're not actually surprised it exists.

Definitely one of those things. Surprised I'm not surprised.

Why aren't YOU on that list, hmm? ;) We need to get you writing again! About really important stuff!

I'm flattered, but I probably won't be on that list for a while. I do miss writing! Trying to start up a news blog is a lot harder than it looks on the internet, though.

I can only imagine! I mean, I'd offer up newx about my tv show! But I'm sure that's not the kind of hardcore, investigative journalism you're looking for. ;)

Maybe not, but I have a feeling that while it may not win Pulitzers, that kind of news will probably be far more interesting to the general public. ;)

Hey, that may be a way to draw readers in!

You can have an interview whenever you like, Mr. Hardy! :)

This place really is insane about organizing resistance and relief efforts. I mean, it's almost like magic, wouldn't you say?

It is! Ha ha! It's definitely a magical place where magical things happen.

It certainly is.

Speaking of... you want to go for a fly with me?

Would I ever!

Those fires up north were really terrifying. I'm glad that people were able to communicate about what was going on, and to check in on friends and family, to see how they were.

I agree! The reporting that The Press Democrat did on that was fantastic and exceptionally up-to-date. Sometimes it takes a smaller, more local touch to really get those breaking news stories out to the public.

It really does. And I like how the smaller papers can have a broader reach, thanks to the internet.

Agreed! The internet used to be the great equalizer, but I'm not sure how well that will work now that websites may have to pay providers to have premium connection speeds.

Good point. Things sure have changed in such a short amount of time.
