Round #3 with Hellmaster (may it be the last ever, peace out jerkface) went a little differently then I'm used to - Lord of Nightmares just went whoosh out of my body after Big Bad Destruction happened, no bargaining necessary - but I can't complain. My hair's not blonde, nothing's going into the abysmal toilet of nothingness, it's a good day. Now the next adventure involves finding the Stupid Swordsman a new legendary sword because his got transported back into its rightful overlord, and some idiot village mayor tried to convince me Excalibur was real so I punched him in the face. I don't know how I didn't get arrested but, well, can't complain there either.

In other news, Pete and I are looking for a doctor in our lovely dream community whose got some experience with genetics. We want to get our recently mobile child tested for this mutant gene, and I know there's a couple of you out there who might know someone?

Isabela and I are combining feminine brain power for Zee's shower and I was thinking that we could do it September 3rd? It's a Sunday. Hanged Man's clear if you were still good with us doing it there. Your job would be to lure her out, probably with food, and we'll have our husbands do all the necessary heavy lifting like the good boys they are.

Isn't it? It's one of her many - or its, technically.

Hah! I knew I'd be able to find someone here. My husband's a mutant (whoever coined that term for you guys needs a punch in the throat) and we ended up making a baby, so, naturally we've got a couple questions.

The Lord of Nightmares is a Lady? That is interesting.

I am uncertain who coined the term exactly - the first mutant, in my dreamscape, appeared thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, and continued to evolve. Though humanity remained largely ignorant of our existence until the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

But anyway, of course! I will be happy to answer questions.

No technical sex, but she/it has presented herself to me as a woman before. The being's best explained as the literal pool of existence, I guess. Chaos, everything and nothingness.

From what I've heard I don't blame you guys for wanting to stay hidden. Humanity's got the reputation of going a little apeshit over differences among people.

We're interested to see whether or not she actually has the gene. We're preparing ourselves anyway no matter what, but definitely knowing would be nice. Is there a non-invasive way to do it or does is sticking her with needles a necessity?

An entity, of sorts, comprised of everything and nothingness - it makes sense there would be no particular sex or other defining characteristics.

Unfortunately so. And it has not improved over time.

I can come up with something non-invasive, never fear. It will not require blood, to test for the x-gene.

Yep, and does what it wants with its own reasoning. Though in every world I've seen it in that tends to vary.

Not surprising. We still argue over skin colors and sexual orientation, I'm sure people with certain abilities is a ball. I know Pete mentioned some kind of scanning device - is it something like that? Harmless?

Especially abilities that mean more power - the power to make rainbows is one thing, but mindreading is quite another. For many people, anyway.

There are scans that can be conducted to look for genetic mutations of other kinds - I can simply tweak these tests to pick up the x-gene, we would just need a DNA sample. Would you be alright with a cheek swab?

Oh, and I'm Hank McCoy, by the way! Scientist with the Department of the Navy.

And you know there's going to be a monumental jackass that ruins the possibility of peacemaking for everyone.

Nice to meet ya, Hank. Lina Wisdom. And below's the husband - he dreams the same world, but on the other side of the pond. And we'd be good with a cheek swab but can't guarantee she won't try and eat it. Is there a specific place you wanna do this?

Ah, yes. The monumental jackass. His name's Magneto.

Wonderful! I am happy to help you both out. You can come by my home lab if that is suitable? It might be more comfortable than my work lab. I'll make sure to have all the equipment I need.

When villains have villainous names. I guess something like 'Magnet Man' would make him too friendly.

Sounds good to me. We'll keep a leash on her, promise. She just learned to walk and thinks she's going on an adventure.

I wish it was something like Magnet Man. It's appropriately ridiculous.

Well, it should be oodles of fun - or not really, but I'll have a special treat for her for letting me take a cheek swab. How old is she?

Cheesy codenames are so great, too. Do you have one? I hear that's a thing with you guys sometimes.

Give her a treat and she'll follow you for the rest of the day. She turned a year in May, though.

It is very much a thing. Mine is Beast - though I actually did not choose it.

Will she? Well, in that case, I will be very happy to make a new friend. Though following me around might put her to sleep, so there is that.

That's a hell of a name. What's the story with your abilities that you got that title?

You'd be indirectly doing us another huge favor, no issues here!

I will show you sometime. But perhaps not around your daughter, as I would not want to frighten her.

Then I hope to give you answers! What are her father's abilities? Though sometimes it doesn't even matter. Mutant offspring abilities aren't always exactly like the parents.

Huh. Fair enough.

He absorbs heat and, in short, can set things on fire - he kinda reminds me of a walking sun with how hot he is, literally. And then he can develop these knives/claws on his fingers with it.

I'm also guessing there's no way to tell what the gene will manifest into even if she does have it?

I might be able to make some hypothesis - based on my research, it's most common that mutant powers are finely correlated to personality. For example, someone with a fiery personality might develop pyrokinesis, etc.

It is also common that mutant offspring have powers similar to their parent - but a more powerful, more advanced ability. That seems to be the general pattern but as I said before, there are sometimes the outliers who have abilities completely unrelated to their parents.

Then I guess we wouldn't really find out until she's older and becomes more of her own person, huh? We've already succumbed to the possibility of having a third firestarter in the family - we should probably fireproof everything.

Given the correlations of powers...yes, that might be a good idea! It is very likely she will have fire-related abilities.

We'd only be surprised if she didn't. It's a good thing she's got parents that are pros at mayhem.
