So one o' my bookkeepers suggested I get myself a phone and tablet to better keep track of sales, clients, projects, whatever sorts of things you keep track of are.

I'm a bit old fashioned and keep things in unorganized piles on my desk at the bar, seems to work well enough, but she's convinced it could be better. So, I write today to ask everyone here, what the hell is a tablet, and what do I do with it? I've got a nice enough phone I figure, it makes calls, but she thinks it's gotta be something far better than that.

Okay so a tablet is kind of like this thin, portable, mini computer that you can use by tapping on it. You can kind of customize what it does by putting apps on it!

So for your business, you might want a program that works with your point of sale system to track your inventory for you! Then with a few taps you can figure out what's selling, what you need to adjust the costs of, what you might want to phase out, and you can handle your orders more efficiently!

And I guess she probably means a 'smart phone', like an iphone or one of those samsung ones, because you can kind of sync your documents between them and get updates when you're not there, or check your emails, or whatever?

I have a system like this for my yoga setup, so that I can keep track of my clients, and appointments and stuff! I used to just keep track of them in one of those yearly paper planner thingies, but the tablet is a lot faster. Plus, it saves trees.

Right so it's a notebook... on a computer screen. Seems a bit too this century for me, but maybe I'll look into investin' in one. Might need a couple go 'rounds before I can be sure I've got it handled.

Right, so get in the tech age, this sounds like it's gonna cost me a pretty penny, but it'll be a tax write off I s'pose.

And right, yes, the trees. All about protectin' the trees, I had a tree house once, trees always been extra kind to me.

Depending on which one you get, they CAN be kinda pricey? But you can also find a few that aren't so bad. I think it might be worth it, but I'm not you!

It took me a while to figure it all out, but it was a good change for me.

And yes! Trees! They make us oxygen, which is very nice of them.

Was it, or you just convincin' yourself o' that to justify the expense?

Still, sometimes could be worth it. Might have to look into that.

Mighty fine of them to do for us.

Oh no, not at all! I was losing appointment information all over the place, and it's not the only job I work so I needed to be SUPER organized. I ended up selling my old notebook computer, since my tablet is the only thing I use anymore.

I think sometimes saving things like time is definitely worth the price point. We're only going to live once! Time is something you can't get back, but money you can always make more of.

Yea, you raise a good point; then again, some might say can't be wastin' that time worrying about organizing and you should get out there and do a thing, or two things.

Still, not the worst idea I've heard yet, so maybe I'll give it a shot. Not really sure how to go about setting one up though.

But once its all set up you won't be wasting time organizing things because the tablet will do it for you, see?

I had someone help me do it, but maybe I could help you if you decide to get one! It shouldn't be too hard now that I've been walked through the steps.

Ah, I see the beauty of it.

Maybe you can, I'm sure you're far more expert than I could ever hope to be at it.

It took me a while to at least sort things into a filing cabinet. I'm a firm believer in mostly organized piles.

I'm a firm believer in it's organized till I can't find it, then I'll look for it, find it, and it'll be reorganized.

That is a very sound system, and one I used to go by. And then I started having regular customers, and reorders were a hassle when things god reorganized constantly.

You're not too wrong on that I suppose.

I'm sure it'll come in handy, once I get past the turnin' it on part.
