I heard someone mention this network, and felt a bit compelled to look it up. I think I found the right place?

In any case, my name is Lance. I just moved here to take a temporary teaching position at Creekside High School, so, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed it works out all right.

What is it that you teach?

English, primarily.

That's pretty cool. Where did you move from, if you don't mind my asking.

Most recently, Washington State. Near Seattle. Though I have been out here before.

...Lance? You didn't, by chance, do English Tutoring a couple years ago?

If you did, it's Anna Arendelle. If you didn't, HI! Nice to meet you!

Anna! Of course I remember you. This is a pleasant surprise.

Very much so!! I wondered what became of you. Not that anything became of you, just... I'm sorry that we lost touch.

I graduated! Or, well, I passed my GEDs and I'm going to UCI!

It's all right. I would never expect anyone to feel obligated to stay in touch.

But congratulations! Of course I'm not surprised. What are you studying?

I wasn't really into facebook or anything like that. Not before Valarnet. So uh... yes. That's why! I guess?

Thank you! :) I'm studying Art History. For now. I hear a lot of people change their majors when they're in school, so I'm not completely set on things?

That's a good outlook to have. You never reallze how many options there are until you start.

Right? Exactly! I mean, I spent so much time inside by myself, and now that I'm out in the real world... I had no idea that so many things were here. I mean, I knew the world was big, but... it's immense. Almost imperceptibly so.

...did any of that make sense?

It makes plenty of sense. Fortunately you're quite young, you have plenty of time to see it all.

So far I've only seen Orange County, and New Orleans. Or, well, from the airport to my friend's house in New Orleans.

I've got a long way to go.

I'm sure you did find the right place, this is the thing to do these days.

Welcome to the net Lance, I'm Allison. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your position works out in your favor as well.

Every now and then. I love teaching but unless you're specialized or top of your class, it's hard to find a steady position. At the very least, I get to meet a lot of people.

Oh wow, I didn't realize it was that hard.

At least there is some sort of upside? I mean if you're an extrovert of course.

How do you like teaching high school?

Thank you. It's certainly a pleasure to meet you.

I enjoy it, actually. High school students aren't really so bad once you're used to them.

I like the weather. I suspect most say that, though, don't they? There's a lot to keep a person busy.

I find it's just a matter of keeping things interesting, which is a bit more difficult given that I teach English. But I manage.

We do have really great weather.

Keeping them entertained is s good plan. Good luck. :)

I might possibly be a bit of a Shakespeare need myself. A lot of kids these days can't appreciate the stories properly.

They don't really, it's unfortunate. My seniors are doing Othello this year, so we'll see how it goes.

I've always liked the old English side of things, myself. I know nobody enjoys it, but I'm over fond of the Canterbury Tales. Though at times I feel a bit like Don Quixote. I've read so many stories of gallant knights and chivalry that soon I'll go out and try to slay windmills.

Othello! That's a great one!

I love the Canterbury Tales myself. I don't know many people that do anymore. Be carefullLance. Those windmills might retaliate.

So long as I don't need to be locked away and have all my books burned, I think I'll be all right.

I would say the opposite. I can't imagine teaching such a young age. I'm sure it must be fun, though.

It definitely is. But it's exhausting too. But I suppose that might just be teaching. What subjects I you teach?

[info]fromthelake

I don't doubt that much. Just the thought of it exhausts me.

I mostly teach English, though I've dabbled a bit in history. Actually, I've been a substitute for so long that I think technically I've taught every subject at least once.
