Lothiriel dreams of far away places. ([info]garland_maiden) wrote in [info]valarnet,

Hello! I'm Lothiriel and new to the area. I just sailed from New York, and I'm excited to be here for a while. I was super excited to drop off gifts for my cousins, Boromir and Faramir. Speaking of? Hi, you guys!

So what does everyone do around here, for fun? I always end up asking when I come into port for a while, since asking the locals is the way to find out where all the best places to eat or drink are, and where to go shopping. If I buy too much, I might sink my little boat! I better be careful that I don't go overboard. :)

You sailed here from New York? In a little boat?

I certainly did. Behold my little boat!

Wow. That's a nice... boat.

I admit, I'm not much for boating, myself. But it takes a lot of guts to sail from one side of the country to the other. I guess you came through the Canal?

It's my baby! I don't have any actual babies, but I have a boat baby. That's all that matters. :)

I can only strive to be as gutsy as the rest of my family is. My father was a navy admiral and so he put me through the longest training course he could think of, including sailing in choppy seas and making me do everything on my own, before he would let me go. My aunt gave me soooo many pointers on how to deal with men people. And my brothers, all three of them, taught me salty sailor language on the sly. I'm strangely qualified.

I did! I hired on the temporary line men and did all of the paperwork by myself, paid all the fees, waited in line, and it was FANTASTIC!

You're a man type thing, as far as I can tell? Man type things like cars and motorcycles and boats and planes. If you don't like boats so much, what is it that you do like?

It's good to have a family that all works together like that.

I like that you're willing to do that stuff on your own. You sound like a pretty capable woman.

Yeah? A 'man type thing'? Just goes to show what you know. Motorcycles are alright I guess, but boats and planes suck. I'm more the type of guy that likes horses and rifles.

I grew up in Texas, ma'am.

It is. I was very lucky to be born into a family containing that particular group of also very capable people. Insert snappy salute, here!

And, well, you are a man, aren't you? Does someone need to check? ;) ;) ;)

Boats don't suck. I am great offended. Although I've been to a few polo matches and always thought the horses were lovely. I've only been riding a few times. I really wish I would have done that more often, but...boats happened! We're all into boats. It's why I originally wanted to be an oceanographer, but even that didn't seem as adventurous as running into actual pirates that I can flare gun to the face and hopefully blow up their boat. And so here I am.

Daddy? If you read that? I'M ONLY JOKING. No sweating bullets for you, mister!

Also? I'm Lothiriel, and you must be _____ (<---please also fill this in, see below)?

Because I don't want to say 'Hey, you, mister man type thing who isn't much for boats but likes horses' at you on the internet.

Well I had a look through that website and maybe I could make an exception with your boat. It looks like a pretty nice boat, especially on the inside. Very stately.

My family breeds them, we've got a whole ranch in Texas. Grew up most of my life around them, and I trust them more than I ever will cars and mechanical transportation.

Makes sense you'd be the boating sort with a family like yours, though.

I'm Eomer. Please don't go around calling me 'mister man type thing who isn't much for boats but likes horses'.

If you're Boromir's cousin, we'll probably end up seeing more of each other. My sister runs his paintball team and I'm on his staff.

It is a very nice little boat and I'm very good at sailing it. I've never had anyone throw up at all! That might be because the only people I've had on it, was my dad and my brothers and my aunt, at one point, with her latest conquest? It was my going away cruising party. But none of them got at all ill, even after hors d'oeuvres were served.

Really? It's too bad we're not in Texas then. I'd want to see them, and know why anyone would trust them as much as I trust my boat not to sink. :)

I suppose it wouldn't be right to call you that, especially seeing as how we'll probably see one another at some point and you've asked so nicely for me not to. You know, you would have had an easier time being on Faramir's staff, but he's always aimed a little low, ambition-wise. My dad says he's just the humble type, and Boromir's the type to go tooting his own horn. Which is hilarious that he has one to actually toot now. I LOVE YOU TOO, FARAMIR. EVEN IF YOU'RE LIBRARY NERDY. <3

You're going to have your work cut out for you, Eomer.

That's quite a feat, then. I'm not volunteering myself to go out on anyone's boat, but if I have to board yours for some reason, I guess I won't mind too much. Seeing as how no one ever gets sick on it.

Boromir's ridden on one of ours once, he might be able to vouch for us. Maybe if you're in Texas sometime you can look the ranch up. It's run by my uncle, presently.

Oh I'm aware, Ma'am. But he's a decent man, and I'm happy to be of help.

No getting sick while I'm the captain. That's ship's rule #1.

And ship's rule #2 is that maybe I'll invite you on board and take you for a whirl on my boat, and I'll ask Boromir about the horses and then go for a trip to Texas, to ride one of your horses. That only seems fair, doesn't it? And since my cousin knows you, that makes it ok!

You're so nice. And he's so him. I'm so happy that there's nice people willing to help him out. Thank you!

What is it you do on his staff anyway?

Since you're makin' it a rule and everything, I don't see how I can possibly turn you down. You don't seem like the type of woman who changes her mind after she makes it, either. You and my sister might get along.

I work as an assistant, of sorts. Your cousins can fill you in on the details.

Ship's rule #3 is that you should always call me ma'am, since it sounds delightfully countrified. Not in a condescending way, but I'm simply imagining that it's cute and since you're an assistant for my cousin and my cousins both know you, then it's ok to be flirty to invite you onboard.

I'm not really the type but I do like reason and sensibility, and not always being swaggering sailor-ish. Perhaps your sister and I would get along well, so maybe we shall see when I go paintballing with my cousin. :)

I need to be nosy and pester Boromir.

Ladies like yourself always deserve to be called Ma'am anyway. I know some women take it the wrong way - like we're 'ma'am'ing them because they're older or something. But where I come from it's a sign of respect. The only woman I don't call Ma'am is my sister, because I think she'd probably hit me for it.

You're joining their team? That's good. I think that team needs more girls on it.

I like it. I think it's very polite sounding. You can call me ma'am, all you would like. I don't mind. :)

It does seem like Boromir has an aversion to ovaries, doesn't it? Indeed, I think this does need remedied asap. And I mean to do that!

Are you also a part of the paintball team?

Well I don't like to stick my nose in another man's personal life, Ma'am, unless their name is Eothain. I figure if he wanted more estrogen in his life he'd probably go and find it.

I've filled in once. But I'm not regularly on the team, no.

Unless he isn't INTO estrogen and instead prefers TESTOSTERONE and Eothain doesn't sound like a girl's name and oh noes, now I've got images of Brokeback Cowboys dancing in my head. I seeeeeeeeee.

Maybe you should fill in more often. If bodyguard is Boromir's code word for 'boyfriend', then I need to report back to my aunt about this startling development and you and I need to be great friends. Eeee! <333 I think that might be fun, don't you?

You see? Uhm... if you don't mind my asking, what exactly are you seeing right now?

Sure, I'd much rather be fighting alongside all of you than be on the opposite side, getting pelted by my sister. That's happened a few times, too.

Only that you're so very polite and not at all nosy. It's rather refreshing. I'm typing with shifty eyes now! It's making it oh so hard to type.

Oh no! That doesn't sound very fun. We should all be on one team or else Boromir and I would be lobbing barbed threats at one another for fun, and Faramir would probably get a migraine simply trying to cope with it all. Being on the same team and paintballing opponents sounds like a much better option. :)

I just figure the man's got enough problems being in the public eye without his staff poking around in his personal life, too. My best friend's life is another matter, all the gloves are off with him.

Being on the same team sounds like a much better option, yes Ma'am.

...oh yes, definitely. It's very nice that you're so thoughtful about him and how he must feel about that. And about the whole public eye thing. Oh so the other guy is your BFF. I wonder if he's into men too. HMM.

What is it about your best friend that makes it so the gloves are off? And yet not so with my cousin. I WONDER.

Teehee. Playing for the same team in more ways than one? I WONDER EVEN MORE. Living in Texas must mean you had to learn to be discreet. <3 I think it's a lovely prospect and this needs to happen as soon as we're each able to pencil it in. :)

Well, he's my boss. And he's a human being. I'd want to be treated the same.

My best friend's known me since I was ten. He's pulled bullets out of me and stitched me with dental floss, and the one time I was in jail overnight was his fault. I'm pretty sure he exists only to annoy me, but he's loyal as hell. Someone's gotta look out for the guy, and that'd be me. So yeah, I butt my nose into his private life a bit more.

That's so conscientious of you! I'm sure he sees it as an entirely mutual situation, since he's the boss.

Oh my god. I am so onto you two now. Of COURSE Boromir would want to be the boss. And here I was thinking Faramir was ragingly gay? WRONG. That is so hot that he's into Texan guy and...wait...wait...THIS MAKES SENSE WHY HE WAS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT WALKER, TEXAS RANGER. Obvious clues were OBVIOUS.

Aww, that's so nice! What a good and profoundly understanding friend you are. I wish I knew what it was like to be in jail, but I'm afraid I don't. Don't drop the soap? Or wait, that's prison bitches. My bad! Did the dental floss really work? I hope it was unflavored because minty fresh wounds doesn't seem like a great idea. :)

I'm sure the details of my life aren't that interesting to him anyway.

It was a boring night in lock up, really. Mainly I just sat there scared of what my Uncle was gonna do to me when I got home.

Yeah, it worked. Well... it worked well enough. Scarred up kinda strange looking, but I suppose that gives me character.

You really know him well. He is so insensitive sometimes! I better do something so the big bear's love life isn't a dead zone again. Hmmmmmm!

You know, since you know my cousin and because he's probably far too busy to have time to listen to such details of your life, I volunteer! I'm positive that you're not dull. You've been in jail before and have interesting scars! That's very much not dull. :)
