These last couple weeks here at work have been surprisingly busy. The big guys upstairs randomly decided on beefing up security so I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to implement new policies and seeing everything is installed correctly. It hasn't gone unnoticed though, which is nice.

I'm told I'll be getting a little bonus this month. I've been thinking of a vacation. My dream self was recently on a mission in Bogota with the world's most beautiful CIA agent. As nice as that was I don't think Colombia is the best place for me. Anyone have any suggestions?

	I do, actually. It doesn't happen so much here in California, but in New York I was somewhat well known in my field. I used to be recognized on a decently regular basis. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	There is something to be said for having your reputation precede you, I would imagine. It saves time if nothing else. I've never been lucky enough to earn myself a reputation related to my work, so I spend a great deal of time introducing myself to people. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	I said part of my work was clandestine. New York has a rather large expat community, and I got a name within that community. I love most of my countrymen, and they seemed to want me to work for them regardless of having a 'name'. That wasn't actually flattery. Or it was perhaps half. 	That may have more to do with the fact that I was around five years old when the Cold War ended than any sort of decency on my part. I hear the older generations, from this country at least, have a difficult time letting go. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Fair, but ach. There are countless problems remaining in Russia, but hearing my childhood reduced to a punchline is somewhat hurtful and irritating. 	Americans are very good at being culturally insensitive. But you can't tell me Russians don't have American jokes. Everyone has American jokes, even Americans. No, they're all good capitalists, their primary concern is their bottom line. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	To be quite honest, no. They may now, but during my childhood, we mostly made Russian jokes. But it's a bit different when one is directing it at oneself. Wikipedia actually has an entire page on our political humor, but my favourite was always Radio Yerevan jokes, but honestly, we had quite a rich culture of mocking ourselves. Oh, the darkest. For example, one of my favorite jokes:

A newly arrived immigrant from Russia tried his best to answer some questions posed by a journalist: "How was life for you in Russia?"

"Couldn't complain".

"Did you like your job there?"

"Couldn't complain".

"And how was your children's schooling?"

"Couldn't complain".

"So, were you happy in Russia?"

"Couldn't complain".

"Well then," the journalist queried, "if you couldn't complain, why did you come to America?"

"Because here I can complain!"
