Hela is dying inside ([info]go_to_hel) wrote in [info]valarnet,

Those of you who know me, know that I severely dislike this time of the year; however, in attempt to be a more sociable and in lieu of a long overdue housewarming, I will be hosting a New Year's Eve party. Consider this an open invitation to my family, friends, and roller derby teammates and others lost on this our Island of Misfit Toys, whom have no place better to spend the countdown to midnight.

Party begins at 9 o'clock in the evening. You may bring a food stuff or liquor (Note: Those of you who are underage will not be imbibing alcohol that evening under threat of having activated charcoal pumped down your throat and into your stomach). Do dress for the occasion and should you have dog allergies or a dog-based phobia-- better luck next year.

Please RSVP below so I can have an accurate headcount.

[This intention for this open invitation party is for characters, both old and new, who might not normally meet to encounter and make connections. It does not matter if your muse knows Hela, she's feeling welcoming this night.]

Is this like a wine and cheese thing where we discuss philosophy and great works of literature? Because you seem classy enough for that and I'm kind of an oaf.

Doubtful it should degrade into one of those parties as I am not a wine and cheese type of woman and my friends tend to be tough and intelligent women so an oaf might find himself welcomed and in relatively good company should he behave himself accordingly.

New Year's Eve is perfect opportunity to mingle and make new acquaintances while catching up with old friends before the old year is utterly spent.

Don't worry, ma'am, I'm a classy oaf. Especially because you're that hot-scary type and you could probably take out my kidneys with a spoon in a blink of an eyelash?

Very true. I can bring Gates of Hell chili for the masses? You think that'd be good?

My, do I create such a fearsome first impression? And yes, with a teaspoon.

I do believe that chili would be fitting for this crowd.

I trust you have a name?

A teaspoon, even. Extra hot.

Then that's what I'll bring. Is it okay if I bring someone else too?

I'm Neal, nice meet you.

I was a trauma surgeon before I became a medical examiner for Orange County so less a boast than a statement of fact. Still it's nice to be appreciated.

Yes, you may bring a plus one, so long as the plus is respectful of the rules of my house, or he or she will quickly become your minus.

I am Dr. Halja Död but more commonly referred to as Hela. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Neal.

A medical examiner? You must have a lot of interesting stories.

Em's good people, no worries. And she likes dogs. So do I, for that matter.

Hela? Cool name.

Interesting is one word for them, yes. But I merely know all the endings; the heart of the most stories remain elusive things.

My dog tends to be more a beast than a shepherd, but he is good company so long as I am present. Just don't make sudden movements and he should be able to resist the urge to herd you both about the place.

Thank you. It is a name which I have grown into and rather fond of over the years.

How have you been feeling?

Wonderful.

I live and breathe, Hela, otherwise transitioning back into retirement has been predictably filled with paperwork.

I was sadden to hear of your injury, Sigrun. Have you settled upon what your next step shall be?

Try a voice recording program like the ones we use in the office and you'll never have touch a keyboard again. It significantly cuts down on paperwork not to mention it is rather fun to have a computer listen to you.

I have, actually, already had a job offer and have taken it. At least I shouldn't be headed off to Kuwait anytime soon, which is nice.

That might be the good idea because I'm going to make the Marines pay for carpal tunnel surgery after all this paperwork!

I'm not a misfit toy, but I really had nowhere to go. There seems to be a few parties out there, but I think this one is likely to be a little less rowdy than the Stark one.

And you have a dog, which is a bonus! I'd love to meet him or her.

Yes, I have heard wild rumors about Stark and his parties. I believe he prescribes to the shock and awe method of entertainment; however, I can assure you there will be no misrule in my house.

His name is Garm. He is a monster of a Belgian Shepherd, but generally amicable to guests so long as I am present.

You must be a new arrival to our little community. My name is Dr. Halja Död; however, most will simply refer to me as Hela. And who might you be, stranger?

I'm not afraid of a good party, but I like them to stay enjoyable for all involved, too. Some of those parties he throws probably involve the police at some point or other.

He sounds very stately!

I'm new, yes. I've been in the states for a few years, but just recently moved to this area. It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Tauriel.

Doubtlessly, but then what does Stark know of the laws of hospitality? I could never permit any event to spiral so wildly out of control. After all, this party will occur under my roof and I would like to still have one over my head and friends at my side after all is said and done.

Yes-- he is the guardian of this house and its surrounding grounds and my faithful companion-- I am extremely proud of him.

Ah, I came from abroad as well, but admittedly I have not been here in the States for as long as you. It is a pleasure to meet you, Turiel. Welcome to our Orange County. How has it treated you so far?

The laws of hospitality are very important. Hopefully their party won't spiral too far out of control, but I'll be enjoying yours instead so I won't have to worry about it.

So far it's been nice, though the snow was unexpected. And I got a photo over the Christmas holiday that was... quite odd.

[info]go_to_hel

That's the spirit. Regardless, I am quite certain Stark's PR staff will be more than up to the challenge.

Yes, I admit, I was a thousand times more fond of the snowfall as it reminded me of home, but I too received a personal photograph for the holidays.

You see, Turiel, our Orange County is a bewitched and beguiling place so these anomalies are to be expected.

I find that really somewhat exciting, I have to say.

It most certainly keeps us on our toes.

Just remember not all the surprises are nice as a half-remembered photograph; when this place decides to turn, she goes for her pound of flesh.

I am glad you will be spent your first New Year's party here with me, Canaan.

Well, you can bring whatever you would like. For the most part the party will be catered, but guests can bring a dish or bottle of drink for the rest of the party to partake in.

I have plenty of liquor so I am none too concerned with this; however, if you have favorite food dish you wish to share, I would be happy to receive it.

All of my new friends will be in one place, which I'm... not used to but looking forward to all the same.

I have some favorite dishes, mostly street food from Shanghai. I may try my hand at making some of the sugar-dipped strawberries I miss. That seems like something I couldn't mess up.

I don't expect it to be a wild feast but there will be festivities. You can partake in as much or little as you wish, Dani.

How are you faring? It has been some time since we had an opportunity to speak.

I'm sure you'll let me be as low key as I need to be. There are some other considerations.

I'm alright, or as good as I can be right now. About in the middle of my fight, so to speak, and getting a little tired of it. But Christmas was good. I can't complain.

Naturally. All you have to do is ask and I will have accommodations made for your comfort.

That is good news. I would not fault your complaints. Yes, treatment is the tiresome, but tolerable considering the gravity of the alternative. Besides you don't strike me as the type to give up easily, Dani Moonstar.

It's mainly that I'm a recovering alcoholic and I'm not sure that I'll be able to handle being around so many people who'll be consuming it. I don't want to ruin their fun, either.

I'm definitely not one to give up. I'm going to kick this thing's butt so that I can get back to living.

If it makes you feel better, Dani, I am simply have no intention on drinking; so in this, I will be your sober companion for the evening. Not that I do not encourage my guests to fully enjoy themselves-- let it never been said Hela was not a gracious hostess-- however, I need to fully remain master of my domain.

I would expect no less.

[info]go_to_hel

You may.

Alas, I must be cruel only to be kind. I find the prospect of starting the new year having to autopsy an alcohol poisoned teenager equally displeasurable and unfortuitous.

Regardless, it seems none will be in attendance so all's well that ends well.

Most likely for the best, considering a mixture of teenagers and alcohol is normally disastrous.

Even when threats are made.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]go_to_hel

Traditionally teenagers have a bad habit of getting into trouble of every ilk because they think they know better than the voices of experience. C'est la vie.

Less a threat than a statement of appropriate treatment. There would be no real danger in performing the procedure as I am a trained medical professional; additionally, I do not permit teenagers or anyone underage to drink under my roof. Merely an attempt to convey both points in a more succinct manner.

I myself am not acquainted with many teenagers. I mostly only attend company parties, if I attend at all.
