Maybe an ex?

I actually do remember the names of the women I'm with, believe it or not. This is not a name I've ever heard before.

Have you had any dreams yet?

I don't ever dream. Why do you ask?

It's kind of a thing here.

Dreaming? It happens to some people, others not. What do you mean, a 'thing'?

Most people here will dream of ... well, lots of different things. But they're all very vivid, and they sort of stain our waking lives.

It's hard to explain until it happens.

I daresay. It sounds like madness. Note to self: do not shag madness.

I can assure that is is madness and also that she's quite correct.

Are you familiar with the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics? You may know it by a variety of other names, but that gets you the correct entry on Wikipedia.

The multiverse theory! That's the one that seems most logical to me.

Yes, amusingly enough popularized by Bryce DeWitt. That's not amusing to you, but I had a chuckle over it, before my nose started bleeding again.

If our dreams are accurate, and we've no reason to believe they're not, that is the most logical explanation. We believe very firmly in Occam's Razor, so that's our running hypothesis.

I've told Rosalind what we would have to do to know for certain, but I don't think either of us is convinced it's the right thing to do.

I - oh.

I'm fairly bright, but I get the feeling I'm not you and Rosalind bright.

Beg your pardon, miss. Simply put, we believe these dreams are transmitted, somehow, from the universes where they are facts. We're not sure why or how, but we are almost completely sure that's what's happening.

We could test it by building a machine we made in the other universes, and seeing if it works a) at all and b) the same way. It has some unethical uses, which are actually extremely problematic for me right now if I wasn't getting my brains shagged out I'd probably have stopped talking by now, Rosalind's going to make faces at me I should delete that. So it would be unethical to build the machine.

I do try, and that was probably helpful for the poster who has had to endure the barrage of e-mails from the conversation we're having.

At least Rosalind is too busy playing around with photoshop to bother looking at the Internet. He'd have twice as many e-mails and not very much additional information.

Oh, Christian? He can deal with the extra e-mails. He's a delightful prat, and very fun to agitate.

The Irish are particular fun to irritate. It's the accent, I think. Not that it translates through text, of course.

It's all right; I was half having her on. I would like a more definitive answer, though. It's all very well to speak about quantum physics, but on a day to day level, I'm afraid it isn't relatable.

As far as we've gathered it works like this:

  1. a person moves to Orange County

  2. They interact with this forum for some reaons

  3. They receive dreams of events which happened in another universe

  4. These dreams can change these people physically and emotionally until they are more like the person of whom they dream

  5. Nobody knows how or why

Yes. That is the most logical reaction. The only thing you can do is bolster yourself with friends who will understand when things become strange.

And he tells me that I misbehave

Please forgive my brother for his foolishness. When you first come to a new country you begin to cling to even the worst aspects of your home country because everything is so terribly foreign. He's also having a hard time right now, and it's not fair that acting this way, but it's unusual for him.

As such I will be happy to answer any further questions, because you did ask a fair question and deserve as educated an answer as you can get.
