Who: Clint Barton & Kate Bishop
When: Mid-week
Where: Clint's apartment.
What: Kate comes over with beer (not lite) and there's pizza and Netflix; Clint even unpacked a little. Sort of.
Warnings: Possible language and awkward people.
Status: Complete.

Clint's place wasn't exactly a dump. It was sparse, probably needed a little attending to, more than just a coat of paint and a shove of random stuff into the corner, but Clint wasn't exactly too bothered about that stuff.

It was homey and livable and that was all that mattered; Lucky had space to sprawl, there was a decent sized gap between the sofa, the coffee table and the tv to allow for optimal lounging and feet on table, so Clint was happy. He'd at least cleared the weeks worth of coffee mugs from the sink when Kate text to invite herself over with beer for some Netflix and pizza and really, Clint didn't mind.

He wasn't overly social right then, between the relocation and figuring out what to do with himself, he'd sort of neglected to actually go out and do anything. Kate was fairly easy company. She had a goofy quality that helped Clint relax a little, wasn't a complete chatterbox and was fun to talk to. The gentle and light flirting in between wasn't bad either.

So Netflix was gearing out suggestions on stuff to watch and Clint had the local pizzeria's number tacked to the wall by the phone and Lucky was fed, watered and walked and ready to curl up and sleep in about an hours time unless he got some TLC between now and then. Which pretty much meant he was set, right?

Kate nodded. She set the remote control aside, and turned to watch the movie with him, content that he'd be able to hear and not need the subtitles if he said so.

"I'll let you do just that." Kate said, giving him a grin. Hey, she was proud of him too. Maybe. Or would be if she'd known this was a thing she was supposed to be proud of. She tapped her bottle against his in a cheers, then sipped from it.

"We can work on that." Kate said, and went for her second slice of pizza.

With the movie starting up, the lead in with its usual credit feed and what not, Clint just grabbed another slice for himself and left his feet on the table.

There was something comfortable about company you didn't need to constantly talk in, and Clint appreciated that. Considering he wasn't exactly a big social interaction kind of guy either. He wasn't one for hanging out all the time or going out to big events or stuff like that. He wasn't exactly a loner, but a few people here and there was fine.

Kate was pretty good company too; dorky in a cute way that he could kind of relate to and really easy going. The flirting didn't bother him in the slightest and really, it was fine anyway. He liked spending time with her, the hour or so for training and she seemed exceptionally good to just hang out with.

Sitting companionally on the sofa wasn't awkward either, so no. Clint didn't really see a problem with flirting, and if it actually went somewhere, well that would be sort of fun to figure out too.

So, by the time the movie was half-way through, Kate was two and a half beers in, two slices of pizza in, and thinking maybe it was time to switch to water. Well, after this beer, anyway.

Lucky came over and rested his head on her knee, so she just had to give him some pets and scratches about his ears. Then her knees started bouncing and she brought a hand to rest on Clint's arm, to get his attention.

She lifted her hand and made the sign for "t" in sign language, then waved it slightly from side to side. Toilet? It was one of two signs she knew from her Elective Wheel Sign Language class in the eighth grade. (The other wasn't appropriate in the current circumstance.)

Since it didn't require a lot of attention, Clint was mostly just lounging back and half paying attention to anything around. Lucky generally got restless after too long just sitting around and Kate seemed happy enough to dote some attention on him anyway.

At the tap and the sign, Clint just smirked a little and pointed to the left side of the hall down from the sitting room. The apartment was ridiculously small, but he wasn't exactly the sort to need a massive amount of space; besides the main room and kitchen there was a bathroom and bedroom. Fairly basic really.

"On your left, lights on the outside." No doubt Lucky would follow her too, "Want me to pause it?"

As Kate set aside her beer bottle, she shook her head. "I can't imagine I'm gonna miss much." She pulled herself quickly up to her feet, and felt the room spin just slightly. The haze of a couple of beers was settling on her mind, and it made her smirk. What might become of those lowered inhibitions? "I'll be right back."

Sure enough, Lucky followed after her. Kate didn't realize it until she reached the bathroom door, but then she let the dog come in behind her before she closed it. Peeing didn't take long. She washed her hands, then brought Lucky back to the living room with her.

When she sat back down on the sofa, it was considerably closer to Clint. She grabbed her beer to finish it. "Any major plot points you need keep me abreast of?"

"I think they were yelling, but it's thankfully very hard to tell." While he could hear everything mostly fine it was moderately dulled, his aids not actually set to pick up any loop in the apartment. He preferred not having echoing going on in his head because of Lucky's barks at times.

The proximity wasn't in the least problematic and Clint just smirked, "So you know sign language?" Even if it was just a case of her knowing a few minor motions to ask the basic things, the same things a few of his buddies had learned once they found out about the extensive damage to his hearing, well, it was still impressive.

ASL as fairly popular, sure, but that was mostly with people who had reasons to learn them, like people in the family or friends who were deaf.

"Ah, I see. Very important plot developments." Kate grinned softly, settling back against the sofa. Her shoulder was just barely touching his. She could feel his warmth through his shirt and her own.

"Just a little. I only really remember two signs. Thankfully, one of them is an important one," her grin brightened. And was that a tinge of pink on her cheeks at the thought of the other sign she knew?

"It was an elective course at my middle school."

Clearly, Identity Theif was not a movie that anyone had to pay attention to, it probably wasn't even one that needed to be watched at all for the sheer lack of anything actually entertaining going on in it. "I happen to know that asking where the toilet is probably isn't that important, so I'm very curious about this other sign you remember."

Even Clint wasn't necessarily fluent in ASL, he'd never been particularly good with languages, but he'd always been very good with his hands, he'd managed to pick up enough that he could carry out a moderate conversation about random things and day to day life with the therapists at the VA before he'd been discharged.

"I mean, that's pretty much why I got good at lip reading because it's kinda shit to just expect people to understand ASL." And because Clint actually tended to avoid bringing up his hearing issues.

"You never know, asking for the bathroom might be the most important sign in the world." Kate argued playfully, and her shoulder pressed a little more firmly against his.

"As for the other sign..." Kate made two little bunny people with her hands--sort of the number two, with rounded fingers--and banged her bent fingers together. It was the sign for fuck. She flushed. "Hey, I was twelve, all right? That seemed like the most important sign in the world."

Chuckling slightly, Clint just shook his head, "Please, I was thirty-two when I started learning it and the swear words were still the most important." But then there was a universal sign for 'fuck you' that everyone understood so he'd mostly been okay using that. "I'm mostly surprised they got away with teaching you that when you were twelve."

Then again, spoken swearing was picked up at a much younger age too.

"It's adorable that you still blush when you're not even saying it out loud and the only other person here is a dog." Unless she had something to put in front of that sign, then there really wasn't a need to worry about being embarrassed.

Kate laughed, too. A gentle, happy sound. She raised an eyebrow. "Are you using that sign on a regular basis?" She asked. It was a joke, but could double as a press for information? Was she barking up the same tree as a handful of differently-abled women who need the ASL sign?

And the twinkle in her eyes faltered a little as she confused herself. Another gulp of beer helped to calm those weird thoughts.

"What? Naw," Kate's blush only spread further when he pointed it out. She shrugged, her shoulder pushing against his again. "It's the beer. Makes me flush." Though the smile on her face and the way her eyes didn't quite reach his probably spoke volumes about how much it wasn't the beer.

At that comment, Clint nearly barked out a laugh. "Hardly," it wasn't a case of not having the opportunity to go out, meet people, maybe get somewhere with someone, but really, it wasn't really high on Clint's priorities of things to do. Least of all with getting himself functional in society again. "Not really something to bring up in casual conversation."

Maybe he was just past random hook ups too.

"Oh, three beers makes you flush huh? I'll need to remember to keep you off the hard liquor." He kind of got the impression that it wasn't just the beers, not really. But he wouldn't bring it up if she was already embarrassed a little by the subject. "Suppose it works out cheaper when you do go out."

"No. I suppose 'toilet' and 'fuck' are two words that don't often come up in casual conversation." Kate grinned softly. "At least, not with casual acquaintances." She teased, flirtatiously.

"Never thought of myself as a cheap date before," she added, then downed the last of the beer in her bottle and set it aside. She'd brought two six packs with her, so they had plenty more if either of them wanted to get more. "But hey. If the shoe fits, right? Hope that doesn't bother you," she bumped her elbow into his.

Polite conversation and casual conversation tended to be two different things, but Clint wasn't really about to start dissecting the differences to see just which category signs like toilet and fuck fell into. Because really, why would he?

"Bother me? That you're a lightweight?" Clint just smirked, shuffling a little deeper into the couch for comfort, barely paying any attention to the characters on the screen at all by now. "Hardly. Means I'm far less likely to get drunk keeping up with you, and you don't drink me outta the liquor that's stashed away."

If a couple of beers was enough for a good night, all the better. "Unless it's because you're into all those fancy fruity cocktail stuff and then we might need to re-evaluate this relationship."

The movie was completely forgotten by now. Kate found that she was far more interested in the man sitting beside her on the sofa.

Kate laughed. "We have a relationship now? News to me. Not that I mind..." she teased a little, then picked up the empty bottle to wave at him once more. "I brought two six packs from a micro brewery. That should give you some indication as to what I like to drink." Sure, she'd drink just about anything. But she brought the good stuff to Clint's place.

"What, you don't consider us friends? I'm hurt, Kate. Hurt and appalled. Lucky's going to be devastated. He's only allowed to play with friends of ours." Clint gave a mock gasp, throwing his head back and shaking it, catching Lucky's attention with his idiocy, but it was normal enough that Lucky didn't really bother too much.

"It gives a notion on what you do drink when just hanging out," Clint shrugged a shoulder, even as Lucky decided to climb up between them and sprawl over Clint's lap, tail wagging happily in Kate's. "Completely different when you're at a bar, or those strange clubs these days."

And wow, his age was definitely starting to come through.

"Well, now I do." Kate beamed when Clint acted all goofy. He was just... utterly charming. She was going to have to get out of here sooner or later. This crush was growing. She wasn't sure she could stop it.

Kate lifted both hands so the dog could settle across her lap. Okay, Lucky's hind quarters. His tail was thumping against her thighs. She didn't mind it, though. She was growing more and more fond of the dog the more time they spent together.

"Oh, those strange clubs these days? That the whipper snappers go to? The ones that listen to the loud music with their long, shaggy haircuts?" She teased.

"Are you kidding me? There's foam parties, there's paint parties, those weird ones where people swap clothes. What the hell is up with that stuff? I don't know, it's just weird." Not that Clint had done a terrible lot of clubbing in his younger years either. Iowa wasn't exactly renowned for it's night life.

"My only memory of a night club was in Dubai, and I was so drunk I can't remember what happened other than our SO ripping us a new one because someone thought it'd be a great idea to go skinny dipping. That's illegal in Dubai, by the way. Very, very illegal." Clint just chuckled because really even as an adult he was just ridiculous.

"So the cast of Scooby Doo can hang out at these clubs with way more than their shitty garage techno shit that I can practically feel when it plays."

"Wait wait wait," Kate said, holding up a hand as if to stop him. "I just have to reconcile that image in my head. Skinny dipping in Dubai, hmm?" The pink on her cheeks darkened a little at the thought as her grin spread. It was quite the nice picture, to be honest. Clint's body naked and dripping in the light of a full moon.

She shook her head to try and clear it.

"All right, we'll leave the foam parties with their loud music to Freddie Prinze Junior and Sarah Michelle Gellar, and you and I can drink beers and cuddle up on the sofa." She clinked her empty bottle against his.

"Yeah, you best believe our SO was not happy with us at all." But then when an entire squad decided to get pissed on down time and just ass around, what could be done. Clint just raised his eyebrow at the further blush on Kate's cheeks, but didn't bother to comment on it this time. It was oddly endearing to see her blush.

"Aren't you right at the age of making terrible decisions?" College was the time for that, right? "Personally I did it all in high school, but you don't strike me as the rebellious teenager sort."

"I just like imagining you walking back to your camp or hotel or whatever, naked and dripping, your SO screaming at you all the way." She smirked softly. She was tipsy enough that she was willing to admit where the blush was coming from. "It's both a funny and pleasant mental image."

"Wait, how old do you think I am?" Kate asked, sitting up a little. She ran her free hand over Lucky's tail.

"I said we went skinny dipping, not that we burned our clothes. I managed to get... well partially dressed." Clint just gave Kate a slight nudge, still smirking at her because it wasn't really a big deal anyway. He wasn't exactly body conscious and didn't really care who thought what.

"I'm shooting early-to-mid twenties and leaning towards the earlies." She brought the beer so he was sure she was over 21, but by how much he wasn't entirely sure.

Really pretty images, those. She grinned softly at that.

"You're a pretty good shot, Barton," Kate admitted with a smirk. "I'll be twenty-five in December." She leaned back against the sofa, her arm brushing against his again. "...that makes you, what, four times my age?" It was a tease. Hopefully it didn't sting too much.

"Oh ouch, cruel." Clint fell right in the middle when it came to soldiers; middle ground was kind of best to aim for a lot of the time too. "I am, in fact, ten years your senior. Oddly enough, also December." Birthdays weren't too big a deal though since he'd been overseas for a lot of them now.

"Me an' Lucky are just a tired pair of old timers, eh Luck?" The dog barely really gave Clint a glance, huffing slightly as Clint ruffled the dog's fur around his head and ears. "Although I'm in exceptionally good condition for a retiree."

"Maybe we'll have a joint birthday party together this year!" She said, putting on the tone and cadence of a valley girl. It was a total joke, and probably a stupid one. But she could blame it on the beers. ...right?

Ten years. That wasn't that big of a deal. Was it? Kate didn't care--it meant wisdom. Experience. Maturity. Total hotness. (Though, that was probably just Clint.) "I'll say you are." The Flirt.
