We were battling an evil time traveler. There's always someone evil with too much power, etc. But it turned out alright. Gotham's not exactly the most fabulous dreamland anyway.

I moved here to get to know her, so overall it settled nicely. And when I was a teenager, I was probably a lot worse on my own personal quest for self-discovery. We live and learn from our not bright mistakes, no?

That's always the case, innit? A surprising amount of fuckers who shouldn't possess half the things they do. A place named Gotham conjures a very depressing image though - mine tends to literally stink of urine and rat dropping. The latter which is a special ingredient in our ale.

Years later she'll eventually realize she should have listened to you. Like how I should have listened to my father about drinking absinthe. Ended up in a fountain without my pants but with sore balls. May your niece have a smoother transition into adulthood.

The city is depressing because an evil warlock is buried beneath, and his essence seeped into the soil - or so it goes. Rat droppings in ale? That sounds delicious. But you dream of having magic too?

Absinthe is delicious though, I am sad for you and your balls to hear this story.

That explains it. And I do, like much of the dwellers of this network. We were carefully selected magical baby guardians.

Ah, well, what doesn't kill your balls makes them stronger, I suppose.

What is yours like? I enjoy learning about the craft of others.

You might need them later, so good thing they're hardy.

The inherited sort. There's an old saying by zealots that describe us mages as 'fire made flesh and a demon asleep.' Conventional magic draws the metaphysical realm we call the 'Fade,' and if you're an idiot like myself, dabble into the forbidden art known as blood magic. We're not a very liked class in my dreamland, alas. You?

Even if I don't, having them still present and ever steely is a source of comfort.

Blood and bone are common components of my own magic - it's mostly channeled with my voice. I've used blood before; it's always best, more powerful with blood, but that's probably why it's forbidden in your world? Mine is an ancient sort, also inherited. We are of a race called the Homo Magi. Conventionally magic can also be drawn from the Earth around us, but with the advancements of science it sort of became a fading art. Anyway, I dabble in a lot but divination is a specialty of mine.

Must explain why men scratch and grab them so often. ;)

A siren of magic, aren't you? How interesting. But, yes, blood magic tends to help cast spells a regular mage wouldn't normally be able to, but the most horrifying fear with it is using the ability to influence and corrupt others. Summoning demons into the corporeal world, too, which tends to scare the general public. It's something that's taught to be feared, not controlled, and lately in these blasted dreams mages who've pushed into a corner turn to it out of desperation with very little understanding. It makes it all the more dangerous.

It's true. Whenever I'm blue I give myself a little check and tickle to reassure myself of their existence.

Pardon. I must be awful talking about balls. I usually tend to be inappropriate but I'm sure this is mostly the influence of a pirate I'm involved with.

Mistress of Magic, or so they say. I started off with a stage act - pulling rabbits from hats and that sort of thing, then got more involved with the mysticism side. Though I still have a stage show, I do love the lights and the performing.

Interesting. Is that what happened with Anders? I don't think the entity which possessed him was a demon but it wasn't anything good. I spent too much time involved with a scouser who made deals with demons all the time, I had to call upon his blustery sorts of skills to get rid of Justice even if it's not my specialty. We could have used you then. That's a shame about the mages though - desperation and oppression really does led to bad decisions.

Pirates tend to have that effect on people. I'm involved with someone who is dubbed 'Sorcerer Supreme.' I like to say that it sounds like a diner special.

I'll have to go see you in action. And throw roses at your feet during the standing ovation.

Blood magic didn't result in that fellow's condition, no, despite how he likes to act all high and mighty about abhoring blood magic with its demon possessions yet him and Justice are somehow 'different.' From my understanding Justice is spirit that embodies the concept, and being fused with Anders and his extremist views and anger changed the both of them. From what I dream they've been together for far too long, it's hard to tell where Anders begins and where Justice ends. They've...I don't know, I guess become one?

That sounds like a kind of pizza. But with magical flesh things, like dragon scales or purified basilisk liver.

Please do. Lina does all my scheduling and books my gigs, conveniently. Maybe I'll pull you on stage and saw you in half like I'm going to do to Stephen.

I managed to rid him of the spirit, safely, but it was a mess. Do you think it will ever get better, the way people view mages where you are?

A one of a kind dining experience, only in Orange County.

We'll have to make it a group outing, then, especially to get together after one of your shows. It'd be something nicely mundane for a change.

I'd imagine so. Justice isn't particularly the nicest, though I'm sure he hates me, I bother and poke fun at him and Anders a lot to the point that he gets glowy blue. As for the mages? Perhaps, with time. People are naturally afraid of things they don't understand. Proper education and training on all parts without stripping someone's basic rights could go a long way, but we'll see how it goes. I sense a lot of bullshit in the horizon.

Pizza toppings made from mythical beast innards, non-aging cream, the cure of Alzheimer's. All innovative conversations I've had lately when it comes to strange magical ingredients. I must be onto something groundbreaking.

That sounds like fun, I would love to. And could do with a dose of mundane. Quasi mundane.

And changing stubbornly rooted prejudices is always difficult as well. There must be much bullshit on the horizon first.

That does not surprise me. We've got one potions maker in the Guild, but nothing of that nature. I tried to make some during the fog - I should just stick to divination.

Hah, yes. Quasi mundane would be more accurate but I wouldn't have it any other way. I enjoy the bouts of strangeness. When no one dies, I mean.

I'd love it if you can divine my future. The skill of foresight isn't really a thing where my magic comes from, I'm afraid.

Some of it is certainly entertaining, yes. Here in our wacky home.

I would love to divine your future. Come by for tea soon and it can be a thing.
