WHO: Duncan Theirin and anyone who commented on this entry/can be assumed to have been invited or dragged along/wants to run into them by accident.
WHAT: Having a beach party and being normal for a while. Yeah right!
WHEN: A week or so after Halloween.
WHERE: Hawaii, one of the beaches on the big island.
WARNINGS: I'll update this if any become applicable.
NOTES: Should probably do this like the Amy & Rory wedding a while ago regarding things happening to different people at different times/places, since there may be many people commenting. Feel free to play by ear/play with time, they'll be there for hours. =)

They'd all survived Halloween, despite ravening hordes of zombies, giant spiders, darkspawn (suddenly Duncan had a lot more respect for his father's nightmares), and countless other nasty things.

Clearly, a party was in order. Duncan figured the recipe should work like this: take one beach plus ocean, one sunny afternoon that would eventually turn into evening, someplace warm, one bonfire, several grills, more hot dogs and hamburgers and various foodstuffs than he could count (including some rabbit food somewhere for those who preferred non-meaty options), a lot of marshmallows, a lot of roasting forks, an obscene amount of cola, and as many friends as possible. Mix together to create awesome event.

Or so Duncan hoped, anyway. They certainly could all use a break, between all the battles to the death and, worse, drama that'd been going on.

Besides, it was weeks since he'd been able to do any surfing, and those waves had his name on them.

She laughed at his odd velociraptor technique of self defense, tickling him for a moment more before stopping. "Duncan, you're adorable," she grinned, flopping onto her stomach. "Did you wear sunscreen? I've got more if you need it."

"First I'm fluffy and now I'm adorable? You sure know how to hurt a guy," he complained, flopping back onto his back. "And yes, Mother, I'm wearing sunscreen." Belatedly it occurred to him he should have lied about that to see if he could have convinced her to rub it on his back for him. Damn. "Learned at a young age that if I don't, I go as red as a lobster." He eyed her pale skin dubiously. "You?"

"They're not insults, Duncan. If I call you a big old girlie girl twink power bottom, then yes. Be insulted. But adorable? You are, deal." She dug through her bag, smiling. "I got my front and legs, can you get my back?" She handed over a bottle of 100 SPF.

"What does that even mean?" he said, reaching for the bottle and getting up on his knees. Right, putting sunblock on girl. He'd done that before. He'd even done it for girls not his sisters. He'd even done it for girls he was dating, for crying out loud. It was no big deal. Even if it involved hands and skin. ...damn it. First she called him adorable--what was he, a puppy?--and then she asked him to rub suntan lotion on her skin. Zelda was definitely out to destroy his poor teenage guy brain. Worse, she probably knew it. And he'd probably fall for it every single time.

No point dwelling on it, anyway. Suntan lotion, skin, insults. Stick to what he could do. "I mean, twink power bottom? Seriously?"

"Oh, power bottoms are gay guys who like to be the catcher, so to speak, but are super bossy while they do it. So, basically me, but gay." She tugged off her t-shirt - he couldn't put lotion on her if she was clothed. "And twinks are pretty gay boys. You're pretty, sorry."

"Ohhhhhhhhhhkay. I just won't ask why you'd call me that if you were annoyed at me." He wouldn't. He didn't want to know. Pretty, fluffy, adorable. She definitely thought he was a puppy or kitten. "No, on second thought I will. What the heck? I don't know if I should be more worried that you consider calling someone a pretty gay boy to be an insult or that you're applying it to me. Have you met me?" He squirted out a fair amount of lotion on his hands, squidged them together, and started spreading it along her shoulders, rubbing his thumbs along her shoulderblades and giving her a bit of a backrub while he was at it. Because he was nice that way. Or liked her skin. One of those.

"I was just saying, it'd be a bit of an insult to everyone involved, really - gay boys and you. I was mostly being silly, I can't even think of how I'd insult you - " There was more to her sentence, but he was rubbing her back. She'd assumed he'd just tentatively put some lotion on her, maybe eeping while he did it, but he found a knot below one of her shoulderblades that turned her into putty. "Mmph, shit," she muttered.

Now that was more like it. Duncan smirked and kept rubbing. "I'm sure you could think of something. I have complete faith in your ability to come up with bizarre names to call me. And on the off off off off off chance you did run out, Lee could probably supply a few."

"Mmm?" Zelda blinked, having completely tuned Duncan out during the backrub. "Were you talking?"

In the circumstances, that was a compliment. "Nope." He added some more sunblock and moved further down her back.

She smiled, leaning forward in obvious contentment. "Is there any way I can hire you to do this a few times a day, Duncan?" She chuckled to herself, shaking her head. "You suck, you know, your name is virutally nicknameproof."

"Depends. How much would I get paid?" He moved back up to the shoulders, making sure her upper arms were covered. "And I've got years of getting taunted in school that says otherwise. Unless you're looking for something polite."

"How much do you want?" She closed her eyes, feeling altogether melty. "Of course I was looking for something polite. Something like Lee's name, but it doesn't work for you." She was leaning a bit against him, a half-smile on her lips.

Duncan hesitated.

And moved his hands back to her shoulders, reaching for a less potentially problematic answer than the first ones that had come to mind. "Twenty bucks an hour and all the pizza I can eat," he said. "You can invent your own nickname. So long as it's not cutesy."

"Took you long enough. Done, I'm hiring you once a month, Can-Can." She turned to smile at him, spitting in her hand and extending it to him to shake.

... sometimes it was glaringly obvious she was a half fairy and had been raised with a lot of Hylian oddities.

"Should've held out for fifty, and milkshakes to go with the pizza." But he spat in his hand and shook hers anyway. It was a classic gesture, why not. Better than a blood oath. "Not answering to Can-Can though. Try again."

"Oh, I like milkshakes, I'll probably make those anyway." She shook his hand and smiled, sighing. "You play hardball. Dunky? DunDun? Ninny, I like Ninny." She waggled her eyebrows a little bit before standing up and stripping out of her jeans. "You going to come swimming?"

"Just because I already know you'll win in the end is no reason not to play hard," Duncan pointed out, pulling off his t-shirt. "Ninny's a name for a horse. Dunk I'm used to, though it sounds more like a command." He grinned. "Might not want to call me that while we're swimming. And sure."

She ruffled his hair. "If you dunk me, Duncan, I will find you while you sleep and you won't like it." She beeped him on the nose before jogging off to play in the waves.

Oh, terrific, more images to keep him awake at night. This girl was going to be the death of him. Not that knowing it seemed to help.

And the satisfaction of dunking her might be worth it, if only for a minute.

Duncan rubbed his nose and followed after.
