Who: Anders, Hawke and Merrill
What: a Talk
Where: Anders' place
Warnings: Probably not.

Anders was nervous. Very nervous. He was straightening up his very bare apartment making sure there wasn't anything questionable laying around. He hoped this Hawke didn't punch too hard. He liked his face being pretty.

"Don't hit--Oh." Merrill blinked when Hawke kissed him. When Anders first came, she had been jealous, and worried Hawke would pick him instead. She was surprised to find that she didn't have any of that now. She was a little bit glad, which was strange.

Anders was about to reply that she couldn't use a sword like his Hawke, and it wasn't meaning that she couldn't be his Hawke, but that saying he wanted to use a sword as well as a mage was a little silly, but he didn't have a chance to.

She was a good kisser. It was different and he didn't exactly mind the ways it was different. He was far to aware that Merrill was sitting there watching them and that she would probably be jealous and that Hawke had picked Merrill and shouldn't hurt the girl or toy with him.

He was also very aware that Hawke was kissing him. Even if she was a girl, even if she was a mage she was Hawke. He kissed her back, even if just briefly before pulling away.

He couldn't bring himself to look at Merrill or Hawke. His face was flushed and he was breathing a little hard. This wasn't right. "You picked Merrill, Hawke." He couldn't bring himself to say anymore.

"Why can't I pick you too?" Maker, Hawke could barely believe she was saying this. The only time thoughts like this had crossed her mind before was during drunken talks with Isabela, and that'd been years ago. "I mean... it'd be a solution, if we did our best to make it work. And it'd only be if... well, if we all wanted it..."

She was really running out of ways to explain this that didn't just devolve into her yelling about Andraste's various sanctified body parts and becoming about as subtle as a brick to the head.

Merrill smiled a little. Both of them? The idea hadn't been fully fleshed out for Merrill until Hawke said it outloud. She only knew that she didn't like the options she was seeing up until now. They could make it work, couldn't they?

Merrill gingerly took Anders hand, leaning in to rest her chin on his shoulder. "We could get a pony, too?"

Anders looked at both of them. He cared about them, but this seemed, well, too good to be true. In his experience if it seemed too good it really was.

Merrill came close to him and made her comment he laughed. "It was a joke, I don't really want a pony." He looked down at her leaning on his shoulder and then over at Hawke. "You both really want this?"

Hawke nodded, glancing at Merrill to make sure she wasn't jumping the gun in agreeing. Best not to agree to something that she would just flail about later. "I certainly do, as long as it's something you want too."

Merrill nodded, too. She might still flail later, but she didn't think it would be a bad flail. "I didn't think I'd like you like that, but... I do," she confessed. "You're important to me."

Now she sort of wanted a pony too, though.

Anders really couldn't understand how they really wanted him. "I. I want it, too. I l-like both of you, very much; you're very important to me." He was sure he'd turned an interesting shade of pink.

He knew most men begged for this, but he was more concerned about keeping his friends than getting two women in bed. At least with these two women.

Indeed, he had, and Hawke honestly found it rather adorable. "I can't really imagine life without either of you. I love you both." Being the first one to say 'love' didn't bother her, really - well, she felt it, so why deny it?

She'd probably even had thoughts like this in Kirkwall, she realised, but was only kept from acting on them by Meredith's 'issues' with the mages. Damn her and her crazy.

Merrill smiled, feeling very content after Anders admitted they were important to him. That was good! She didn't really know how this would all work out--She was new to just having one romantic partner, let alone two.

She wrapped her arms around Anders and gave him a tight side-hug. "Are you okay?" He'd been worried and angry and sad when she last saw him, and she was hoping this would fix all of that. It seemed like more needed to be said, but she didn't really know how.

Part of his mind was telling him that this couldn't be happening. Maybe Hawke had punched him when he let her in and this was a dream. "I think I'm okay, Merrill, just a little overwhelmed." He hugged her back and looked at Hawke and then down and away. "I love you both, too." This was probably just a dream anyway. He reached out to her to get her in hug as well.

If Hawke'd known he was thinking that, she would've punched him again for good measure. But, as she didn't, the hugging was definitely the only thing on her mind. It was nice, after all. "We could still get you a pony if you really wanted one, you know. You don't have to hide it."

Okay, maybe teasing him a little was also on her mind. She couldn't help it.

"We'll understand," Merrill agreed, teasing Anders along with Hawke. She grinned up at him, leaning her cheek on his shoulder. "I'll even let you name it," she said in a conspiratorial whisper.

"Oh!" she said, realizing she hadn't spoken up yet. "I love everyone, too." In case that needed to be announced.

Anders laughed, "No, I don't really want a pony. They're hard to take care of. Cats are easy. And Ser might get jealous."

Hawke chuckled softly. "Maker, can you imagine? And Loki'd just look all offended whenever you went near it...

Actually, speaking of Loki kinda reminded her. What would the others even begin to think of this? Should they even tell them? "We... should probably decide what we're going to tell the others about this. It might be a little hard to explain."

Merrill tilted her head, thinking on that. "Well... We could just tell them we all like each other? They already know Anders and I kissed. And that you used to like one another. It shouldn't be that difficult to explain, should it?"

Isabela should understand the concept, at least. And Varric seemed to have a good imagination.

Anders laughed. "I'm sure they'll understand very well. Varric will write a book. Isabela will say been there, done that, and Aveline will just scratch her head and say, of course we're all together, not really understanding anything."

"And Fenris will just mutter something about mages and go right back to brooding..." Hawke paused, thinking it over a little. "Actually, knowing Isabela, she's probably going to say 'about time' and go on about longing glances or something like that..."

If Varric did end up writing a book about it, she'd already resolved she was going to make him split whatever coin he got for it. It was only fair.

Merrill blinked when Anders started laughing, not having expected that reaction. "Been there, done--Oh!" She pushed her hair back. Varric would write books about them no matter what they said, wouldn't he? This one just might be a little more accurate.

"So.. we shouldn't tell them?"

"Oh, I didn't say that. We might as well, they'll find out eventually. They're our friends after all. I figure they'll mostly be amused by the whole thing anyway."

They could not tell anyone, but then they would just assume. It would be easier to tell them. "I just vote I'm not the one to tell them." They probably wouldn't believe him. He still thought this was all a dream anyway.

"I guess I could tell them," Hawke was, after all, used to being the one who had to break news to people. Came as part of being the hero... even if it didn't usually involve things like this. "I might just need you to step in if they accuse me of being drunk and imagining it all."

"I can help," Merrill said brightly. She didn't mind at all. She was used to her friends looking at her like she was crazy. It would probably be most believable coming from Hawke.

She shifted her chin over to Hawke's shoulder. "Should we have another party to tell them? Or send a letter? Or tell them one at a time?"

Anders was still grinning. "I don't think my voice will inspire confidence of sobriety, but I'll assure them if you want." A party didn't exactly sound like the best idea but if you told them one at a time they might pout about who they told first. He didn't really know the best answer for that.

"If we did the party option, I think we're all banned from drinking," mostly because Hawke kinda suspected that'd devolve into something far less telling and a lot more showing. "We need some way of letting them all know at once, just to avoid Varric sulking."

Because when Varric sulked and gave the puppy dog eyes, it always did terrible things to Hawke's resolve. Damn him and his terrible ways.

"Maybe a dinner? It would be nice to see everyone together. But it might be strange to make that sort of announcement." She shrugged. "Do you want to use that internet?" Merrill didn't know much about the etiquette rules at play, either involving the internet or how to tell friends about threesomes. It's too bad they couldn't just change their relationship status to 'It's complicated.'
