Anders was nervous. Very nervous. He was straightening up his very bare apartment making sure there wasn't anything questionable laying around. He hoped this Hawke didn't punch too hard. He liked his face being pretty.

Now, why would Hawke do something silly like ruining his pretty? Half of the reason she liked Anders in the first place was that he was really nice to look at. Yes, she really could be that shallow, when she wanted to be.

After making sure that Merrill hadn't wandered off and gotten lost again, she knocked on the door. "Maybe making him wait this long was a little evil..."

	Merrill did get distracted easily, but she'd managed to follow Hawke to Anders' home. She had picked a few wildflowers on their way there. She'd started feeling a little nervous. Anders opened the door the moment there was a knock. He looked a little flushed from running around. His apartment was almost spotless. Ser Pounce-a-lot ran out the door the moment it opened and tried crawling up Merrill's leg, begging to be picked up.

"Uh, come on in. You want anything to drink? Eat? Anything?” He looked a little worse for wear, more than a little worried, but he managed a small smile.

	Okay, that cat was far too adorable for its own good, and was distracting Hawke from why she'd come here. It may've even made her smile, but she shook her head, quickly pushing the 'eee, adorable kitty!' thoughts aside. "You don't have to worry so much, you know. 	Merrill didn't have the same willpower that Hawke did, so she did squeal "Kitty!" and scooped Pounce-a-lot up. "Hello, Ser," she said, cradling the cat in one arm and bonking her lightly on the head with a wildflower. "Hi Anders," she said, smiling as she followed Hawke inside. 	Anders silently thanked Ser for being so adorable. "Yes, you might freeze me, or something equally horrible," it was said with a smile, though still a nervous one. "Hello, Merrill. 	"Why would I want to freeze you? I only use my magic for good things in this place... well, mostly," the number of tone-deaf and irritating people Hawke'd set on fire before becoming Varric's bodyguard was a testament to that. 	Merrill filled a nearby glass with water and put the rest of the wildflowers in it. She smiled at Anders, then looked down at the kitten. 	Anders grinned, "Well, good to hear, doing good things with magic. Always a good...thing." That wasn't awkward. No. Not at all. He grinned watching Merrill play with the cat. Indeed, she had, but that didn't mean the punching was going to happen right away. She was a great believer in doing things like that when they were least expected.

"I'm not even sure where to start talking about this..." she admitted, unable to help a little smile at Merrill and the kitty. Honestly, she was too adorable for her own good sometimes. "I mean, it's good that talking comes instead of me just punching you and doing something stupid."

	It was probably bad that when Merrill heard Hawke talk about 'doing something stupid' her first thought was kissing. Hawke could have meant anything. A spell of some sort, maybe. Yes, Merrill should probably stay with the cat and let Hawke do most of the talking. "No punching," she said, looking up at them. She'd been the one to start it, after all, not him. 	Anders shrugged. He didn't know where to start all of this. "How about you just tell us to never do it again, and we just go back to normal. Friends and all that. I can be good, I swear." No punching? Hawke pouted - yes, it wasn't a very Heroic thing to do, but... that was ruining her fun. Sometimes, punching people made life better.

"I don't think that'd work..." oh, Maker, this was already getting awkward. Punching would be a much easier route of action than this. "It's complicated and just saying 'don't do it again' probably won't change anything. It'll just make it even more confusing for all of us."

Merrill frowned a bit. She probably couldn't just stay out of the conversation. She picked up Ser and the toy mouse she was playing with and stood up. She wasn't sure how she felt about Anders suggestion, but Hawke's rebuke of it just made her feel more awkward (even though it was probably true).

She was blushing, all the way to the tips of her ears. "So.. what do we do?" she asked, looking to Hawke. While Anders was waiting for them, Hawke had told Merrill that she loved her, and had helped calm Merrill down, but they hadn't actually discussed action plans.

	It sounded wrong enough to make Hawke arch an eyebrow, at least. Anders following her decisions just like that? That had to happen once in a blue moon. "To be honest, even I don't know. 	Merrill frowned. "I don't want you to feel like an outsider," she told Anders. No one had really explained the concept of a 'third wheel' to Merrill, but she hated the idea of him feeling like he didn't belong. 	Anders tried to not think about what it would mean for him to not be an outsider in this situation. "Look, I don't want to cause more trouble for you guys. I'm fine with just friends. Really happy even." It sounded false to his own ears and he wondered when that had changed, but really, if it was what they need to move on he would give it to them. Hawke bit her lip slightly, trying to get her thoughts in the right order. If they stayed 'just friends', there'd always be the awkwardness between them, always be the risk of either her or Merrill - or both of them - accidentally-on-purpose (or just accidentally, because hey, it happens!) getting 'involved' with Anders in ways they really shouldn't.

"Anders... what is it that you want? And I mean honestly. This isn't really something me and Merrill alone can decide."

	"You aren't causing trouble, Anders," Merrill told him. "It's not your fault." He'd been drunk when he kissed her. She didn't have that excuse. She just liked him. She flushed, remembering the kiss. Anders kinda looked away. What did he want? That was a good question. Maker, he didn't really know. He turned red. "I want a pony. I want diamonds and sweets all day without losing my girlish figure. I want to be a mathematical wizard and learn how to play the violin and learn to use a sword better than my Hawke." It was silliness, but asking what he wanted was silliness. What he wanted wasn't realistic. There was a difference between fantasy and what you realistically wanted for your life.

He looked a little ashamed. "I don't know what I want."

There was certainly no time like the present for this. Hawke punched him in the arm, just for being... well, Anders the git, for want of a better way to put it. "Anders, what force in this place, or any other, means I can't be your Hawke? I might not be perfectly the same, but..."

And Maker, she couldn't resist. She knew punching him would lead to something stupid, and in this case? That meant kissing him.

	"Don't hit--Oh." Merrill blinked when Hawke kissed him. When Anders first came, she had been jealous, and worried Hawke would pick him instead. She was surprised to find that she didn't have any of that now. She was a little bit glad, which was strange. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Anders was about to reply that she couldn't use a sword like his Hawke, and it wasn't meaning that she couldn't be his Hawke, but that saying he wanted to use a sword as well as a mage was a little silly, but he didn't have a chance to.

She was a good kisser. It was different and he didn't exactly mind the ways it was different. He was far to aware that Merrill was sitting there watching them and that she would probably be jealous and that Hawke had picked Merrill and shouldn't hurt the girl or toy with him.

He was also very aware that Hawke was kissing him. Even if she was a girl, even if she was a mage she was Hawke. He kissed her back, even if just briefly before pulling away.

He couldn't bring himself to look at Merrill or Hawke. His face was flushed and he was breathing a little hard. This wasn't right. "You picked Merrill, Hawke." He couldn't bring himself to say anymore.

"Why can't I pick you too?" Maker, Hawke could barely believe she was saying this. The only time thoughts like this had crossed her mind before was during drunken talks with Isabela, and that'd been years ago. "I mean... it'd be a solution, if we did our best to make it work. And it'd only be if... well, if we all wanted it..."

She was really running out of ways to explain this that didn't just devolve into her yelling about Andraste's various sanctified body parts and becoming about as subtle as a brick to the head.
