Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:rose tyler, the doctor (ten)

WHO: Ten and Rose
WHAT: Catching up
WHERE: The lobby of the Mirage, Las Vegas
WHEN: Significantly backdated, right before Gabe and Lilo's wedding
WARNINGS: Probably nothing.

Ten had spent far too long getting back toward the casino, but now that he was edging near (more like barrelling near, walking fast with his coattails swirling behind him), the nerves came back. The sort of nerves that made one terrified and excited and impatient all at once. Rose Tyler was here. Here! How, even he didn't know. But then he was inside and looking around for blondes, and he set it all aside, at least for the immediate moment. For now, he'd let it lie.

Rose felt a bit torn, she had to admit. She was *technically* engaged to the Doctor, but not really. Oh he had his face, his personality, pretty much everything about him but he wasn't the Doctor at the same time. But now the Doctor *was* here, her Doctor at that. She remembered the Doctor when she first fell in love with him, all in leather, quite rude and angry, but that had been a true first love. A love of innocence and awe. The love she felt for *this* Doctor... it broke her heart when she had to be separated from him.

She shifted a little as she stood, waiting, to be reunited with him.

He saw her leaning against a wall, and all decorum left his thoughts. Ten was over in a flash, wrapping his arms around her with his eyes closed, not sure how to feel or act or breathe. "Rose," Ten murmured, smiling, afraid to move.

She wasn't surprised by his sudden appearance. He had a way with that. She had wanted to keep herself cool, greet him easily, not longingly. That all sorta flew out the window as he swept her into his arms and hugged her tightly to him.

Her own arms came around him, returning the hug as tightly. "Doctor," she responded, smiling and hugging him more.

He didn't stop for some time, and he didn't care what it looked like. The only thing that mattered was how it felt. It was hard to recall that technically, she wasn't a free woman.

Eventually, though, he leaned back to look at her. "You look better than last time," Ten pronounced, smiling faintly. "Healthier, all around in greater fettle." Of course, last time they had seen each other, the Daleks had nearly killed them all.

Rose couldn't help but smile more at him. Her Doctor. It was so easy to forget that she was taken, especially since her ring wasn't on her finger, which admittedly confused her. She HAD put it on that morning. Hadn't she?

"You look wonderful, too, Doctor," she said. "It's so good to see you again."

"You have no idea." Well, actually, she had a very good idea, didn't she. "I mean, well. It's definitely not been the same. I shouldn't be me. I'm glad to see me again." He'd told her about the radiation, and Wilfred, and all that, but he wasn't any closer to the heart of the mystery. Talking about problems and questions with her seemed much simpler than the confusing dark cloud over their heads.

"I wonder if whatever brought you here stopped the regeneration process," she said quietly, thoughtful. It was interesting to have heard about what he had gone through and had been facing before arriving.

"I'm glad to see you too. I don't think I'd know how to act if the you after you were here instead."

Ten blinked. "Have you seen him, then?" He was curious in spite of himself.

She shook her head.

"No, I meant if he had shown up or you had regenerated after showing up here."

"Ah." Ten chuckled. "I wonder what he'd look like, but at the same time I'm awfully glad I don't know." He'd grown rather fond of this model; skinny, rangy, fast. He liked the hair.

He looked over at her, sighing, a smile drifting onto his features. "How long have you been here? Not long, right? I'm just wondering what brought us here, or even if we could find that out."

"You are the only one I've talked to so far since arriving, so I have no idea where even *here* is," she said.

"Well, you know some of it. It's Earth. Las Vegas, Nevada. This place is apparently called the Mirage." He gestured to a large light sculpture ... thing ... on the wall. And it's neither your nor my home dimension.

"Well yes, that part I got, but it's definitely not my home dimension."

"I wonder if we can get back at all." Ten mused. He knew that Rose had said she might want to go back (surely she hadn't meant that?), but it might be a moot point. One wondered. "I mean, I told you I met a girl here who's in her twenties, that was only six years old when I met her two years ago. This place is strange, even for me."

"That's saying a lot then... I am surprised you aren't running off in the TARDIS to find out the answers to everything."

Ten smiled, but for the first time it was tight, less open and joyous than before. "I can't find the TARDIS. Which is, I admit, a source of worry."

"Oh... I'm sorry."

She didn't know what to say to that. She knew how much the TARDIS meant to him.

The TARDIS had been - well, until recently - the only woman he'd ever loved. He'd been worried ever since he'd gotten here. "She's been through a lot," Ten said, smiling a little more easily. "You saw what the Daleks tried to do to her. Hopefully I'll find her soon." And then, he wanted to say, it'd be like old times, with him and Rose travelling together. Though he wasn't that much of a fool.

"He isn't here. Right?" Ten finally managed, just wanting to hear it from her. "And that's why you need to go back there?"

"Yes, I remember..."

His question slightly caught her off guard, though in reality it shouldn't have. She glanced sideways at him, trying to gauge his mood or potential reaction.

"I've not seen him, so I suspect he's not here. And I thought that it was bad if I were here... the whole ripping a hole in the universe thing."
