Who: Nathan Ford, Sophie Devereaux, and a comatose Sam Ford.
What: Discussions, worrying, who knows.
Where: Sam's Hospital room.
When: Backdated to right after Sam went to the hospital. THAT VERY NIGHT.
Warnings: possible yelling? I just don't know!

Sophie had wasted no time getting to the hospital once Nate had given her the details, taking only enough of a detour to stop and get the promised coffee and a pair of sandwiches - she didn't know if Nate had eaten, but she was sure it wasn't high on his list of priorities at the moment. Once in the hospital She dealt with the usual questions with a few small, minor lies, eventually finding her way to the hallway outside of where they had Sam. She knocked lightly on the door to get Nate's attention, offering him the coffee as she entered.

"What do you know so far?"

"If they haven't told you anything, then they don't know. I'm sure as soon as they have some information, they'll tell you." And if they didn't, well. Sophie knew her way around a hospital. With a quick glance to the door she moved to the foot of the bed, picking up his chart. She glanced at it for a moment and frowned, sighing as she hang it back on the end of the bed.

"He looks so pale."

	She moved over to him and took his hand, lightly examining the knuckles before wrapping her hands around it. "He says his doctor is good. And that she's been helping him a lot. 	"What do you want, Nate, an apology? I'm sorry he doesn't think he can talk to you, so tells me these things instead. At least he's talking to someone." Sophie sighed, stepping away from him and back over to Sam's bed, sitting lightly on the side of the mattress as she leaned over, brushing a strand of hair off his face. 	It took only a minute, but she found the call button for the nurse and hit it, settling a bit to wait for one to arrive. Seeing Sam like this killed her - she couldn't imagine what it was doing to Nate. Contrary to what Sam thought, she knew he loved his son like crazy. "Had he talked to you recently? 	It took all Nate had, not to attack at the sight of her. he was worried, he was struggling with his guilt, shame that he hadn't stepped up with Sam, when his son needed him. He listened as the nurse told him what they knew, what amounted to a whole lot of nothing. With a wave of his hand, Nate dismissed her. "Where the hell is his doctor?" The nurse spoke about MRIs and test results, and it only took a moment to realize there was nothing there that was going to make Nathan feel better. Even with the assurances that everything possible was being done that they were sure this was a temporary thing, the words sounded hollow and rote. Offering a bit of a smile, she nodded to the nurse. "Please find his doctor. ASAP."

	Nate returned to Sam's bedside. He sat and put a hand out to Sam's hair. He said nothing, words felt trite just then. He wanted to throw things, trash the room, and get smashing drunk. He could do neither, and so he sat, just looking at his son. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Though she'd been doing some rounds in the hospital, she was on her way back to where Sam's room was when the nurse came down the hall. She was told that Sam's father wanted to speak to her, so she came inside, spotting Nate and Sophie there. She picked up his chart, and said hello. "I'm sorry it's taken this long to come and speak to you, we wanted to make sure he was stable first."

"It's.. spreading very rapidly and we're starting him on the necessary treatments, but yes. I mean we have.. healers, actual healers on staff and maybe it's not stuff we're used to? But.. I had a doctor here who had Huntington's Disease, which doesn't have a cure and.. well she was cured." Not that she wanted to say she'd gone and it was back now, but that was besides the point. "He's got a much better chance this time."

"You make sure you do that." Nate's voice held the conviction of a man who would kill for his son. He would. He would kill for Sam, if it could somehow save Sam's life.

He turned away from her, and bent over his son's unconscious form. He kissed Sam's forehead, brushed the hair off his face. "I need some fresh air." He turned, abruptly, walking past Cuddy and outside.

"A little like I've got a harem," he said with a smile. At least, he was trying to smile. He wasn't quite sure what it looked like. "Someone to feed me grapes?"

With some effort, he reached up to touch his hair. "Oh, good. I just spent fifty bucks to have that bleached." Hate to have it wasted on a silly thing like chemo. Maybe his humor wasn't great, but he'd just woken up, after all. He thought Sophie would appreciate he was trying, at least.

Cuddy grinned a little, glad to see that his humor was in tact. She turned up the morphine drip and nodded. "I'm sure I can get some grapes up here. You're already going to be carried on a bed wherever you go though.

She looked between them two. "Should I leave you two be? Just let me know if you need me okay? When you ring that button it goes straight to me and the other nurses."

'You're going to be okay' was just something doctors had to say. He'd made it through last time, but he bet the doctors had told this Nate that his son would be fine. Sam didn't feel as confident this time. He'd been scared when he was eight, but his mom and dad had been there and given him hope. His life had been so messed up here, he didn't know.

"Did you test for anything else?" he asked. "Like. Y'know. Stuff you can get from. Sex." It probably wasn't that, but Sam wanted to be sure. He wanted to know what not to tell his dad.

"Okay. Good, I guess." He relaxed against the pillow, looking up at the ceiling for a moment. At least he sort of knew what to expect.

"Sophie can come back, I guess. And I'm sure you have other patients." He looked back to her. "Oh, Dr. Cuddy? Can you turn this down a little? Makes me loopy," he said, gesturing to the morphine. If he just had a few days left, he'd rather spend them in pain than be asleep the whole time. He could handle pain. "I know how to work it if I need more."
