Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:darius summers, ophelia

Who: Darius and Ophelia
When: Tuesday morning
Where: Casa Del Ophelia
What: Explanations, glompage
Warnings: will update if there's anything, mild language for the moment.

Darius wondered how many times he was going to be nervously waiting on Ophelia's door step, hoping that things would go well. He trusted her to accept him and his world, but he couldn't let the fear of rejection go entirely. It probably had a lot to do with the fact that he was still furious with Sophie, though he figured that would fade with time. She hadn't harmed him, but he was so exhausted that it was difficult not to fly off the handle.

The coffee in his hands was warm, and Darius felt as though that was the only thing keeping him awake at the moment. Well, beside the nervousness, of course. He knocked loudly, hoping he wasn't too early.

"Oh..."

Ophelia looks very confused but then...this is normal when they're talking about anything to do with school.

"I think I may be rather glad I never went to school."

But not really. She does wish that she weren't so...ignorant.

"It's not the school's fault. I'm just afraid of what the future will bring sometimes. Give me a day or so, and I'll be calling them every hour to see if I'm still signed up for the orientation."

Ophelia smiled. "What is school like?"

She's never been, after all!

"It's interesting. You're grouped by age when you're younger, and skill level when you're older. It's usually a group of fifteen to thirty people, though some classes can be as big as three hundred. There's a teacher, who stands at the front and lectures, then assigns bookwork to read and study. Then you go out and do kegstands, scrambling to do your homework on Sunday." He gave her a wry grin. "It's a lot of work, but the best way to get ahead is to have a piece of paper sanctioned by a college. Whether you have the information or not is almost irrelevant at that point."

She smiled. "It sounds interesting."

She paused.

"I'm not really glad I never went to school. I feel ignorant."

"Well, there are adult classes you can take. You can read and write, so you'd be able to enroll in college yourself, if you wanted."

His tone was thoughtful. "It might do you some good."

She nodded. "It is something to think about. I just...I feel like I go on in my days only doing this job because it's safe and I can interact with flowers...but there's so much out there."

"Yes. There's a whole world out there. And I hope that you'll only find the good in it, but even the bad is better than nothing."

He touched the side of her face softly. "I would love to show you more of the world. And you should explore on your own, too. That's what makes the world fun."

"Exploring on my own is rather frightening." She smiles softly. "Though what I have seen with you has been rather wonderful."

Darius thought for a moment. "Would you. . . like to take classes at the college? You'd only have to take one or two at a time, and I could help you find financial aid."

Ophelia thinks for a bit. "I think I would like that," she says. "It would be something different."

And perhaps it would open her mind up a little bit.

He nodded. "And if you don't like it, no harm done. We can move on to something else. Maybe we could take kickboxing together, or something dorky like that."

She laughed. "I cannot imagine but I will try anything once."

Ophelia has done no type of martial art in her life.

"I think that would be kind of neat. I imagine once you got the hang of it you'd decide you enjoyed it." He winked at her, and planted a kiss on her cheek. "But one thing at a time, I think."

She blushed a little as he kissed her cheek. "Yes, one thing at a time."

It was all very exciting. "I just...have a difficult time envisioning myself doing...anything but flower arranging." She laughed. "Especially since all I was meant to do was be a good wife and bear children."

"There's nothing wrong with that. But there's stuff you can do at the same time. My mom was a good wife, had three kids, took care of us, ran a school, and fought evil all at the same time." He grinned sheepishly. "Beside, kids benefit from having well rounded parents."

"Men worthy of the name do. Not always, sadly, but it's more common."

If he had kids, he'd be a part of their lives. He loved kids, and knew that when the time came, he would embrace that life eagerly. "It's important to have a balance. You can't have one parent cooped up all the time, and one absent all the time. Kids require teamwork, and sometimes you need a break from the stress."

Ophelia nodded. "Yes. Children can be very stressful. And delightful."

She leaned her head on his shoulder. "I'm glad you came over today."

He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tightly for a moment. "Me too. You just make everything seem better. Talking to you is always a joy."

"I am glad. You make me happy."

She didn't know what that meant, all she knew was that her heart leapt for joy whenever she saw him or heard his voice, or just an entry on the comm.

Ophelia didn't try to analyze it. It just was.

That was enough for Darius. He felt no need to rush his relationship with her, and honestly he didn't know what he was ready for. Best to just take things slowly and see where they wound up.

It's the best for both of them, really.

Breakfast was nearly done. "Would you like to watch a movie or something? I've got a huge collection of them I've never seen. You can explain what they're talking about to me."

"That sounds like fun."

Maybe she can sneak in to cuddle with him while he naps!

Ophelia likes cuddling very much.
