Who: Faith and Wes
What: Sparring, talking, god knows
When: Tonight
Where: Somewhere in London
Warnings: At the very least Faith's mouth warrants a pg-13

After Faith had gotten herself to London and to the place where Wes lived, she'd been let in and had some small talk with her once and former Watcher. Neither of them were the talking types, so she stretched out, and then they sparred. It felt good to just spar and not have to worry about some kind of evil coming to kill her for the next half an hour or so. And by the end she was sweating and exhausted and probably really horny, but when wasn't she?

Not that she was going to do anything about it. At least not until she left him. After she made sure he couldn't take anymore, she went to go find them some water. "Do you even have fucking water in this place? Or do you have to go to the store?" she asked as she walked back into the kitchen and opened up the fridge.

Though it looked like she might have bitched for a moment about having to get water out of the tap, she realized that well if she was going to bitch about not having bottled water she deserved to be shot. So she grabbed a glass and filled it up. "Do you want any? Fuck do you even eat?" she asked in between gulps of water, calling out more then poking her head back into the living room.

"Fuck that environmentally conscious bullshit. World's gonna explode but not from global warming." That was for damn sure.

"I don't honestly know," Wesley said. "This is something of an irregularity. I don't need to breathe, but I'm capable of speaking, which shouldn't be possible. I can breathe with conscious effort, and my muscles still work even though there is no blood flow, so I imagine it wouldn't hurt. It is mystical, after all." He realised he was talking more than necessary. "Anyway...yes. Water would be lovely."

"True enough, but let them have their causes. Everyone needs something to fight for. And not all of us can fight the true evils that are out there."

"There's only one way to figure it out." She said as she filled yet another glass of water and then finally brought them both out to the living room. "Guess if this doesn't send you into fits, we can try food and see if you go all writhing on the floor." Her eyebrows lifted in amusement and she handed the glass of water to him.

Her nose wrinkled, "Man fuck all that saving trees by using plastic instead of paper? Come on that ain't fighting for shit. They wanna fight for the environment, they should fucking push their car to work." She slumped down on the floor and stretched out her legs. Out of the corner of her eye she was watching to make sure he wasn't going to fall on the floor and croak from water.

Wesley couldn't help laughing at that. "I hardly imagine you would complain," he said, taking the glass from her, "were I writhing about on the floor." He took a long drink of water, and it felt perfectly normal. "Unfortunately, it seems I won't be entertaining you with fits and writhing today." He smiled. "Did you want to get takeaway? I think it was about time to do the shopping, or this person was as hopeless in the kitchen as Gunn. There wasn't much in the way of food."

He shook his head. "I agree, but this person didn't have a car either, so they seem to follow through on that count." He shrugged, settling down next to her on the floor. He noticed her watching him from the corner of her eye and he smiled. "I promise you haven't killed me with water. Such would be a rather anticlimactic death."

Her shoulders shrugged some, "Depends on which way you're gonna be writhin on the floor." Then she started to grin, because she was dirty and Wes knew she was dirty so she figured he knew how to ignore her by now. She didn't actually want him to writhe around on the floor cause she gave him water. "Takeaway. You're gonna cook?" she tried not to snort. "Don't be looking at me for cookin I couldn't toast bread." She was pretty sure that even Gunn was better at cooking then she was.

Since she was caught, Faith just smirked and shook her head. "Good, though that would be really fucking funny. We do all that shit and then die from some water."

Wes rolled his eyes, but knew that he'd walked into that. Faith had a mostly one track mind, and it did no good to encourage her. "I'll have you know," he said, "that I am perfectly capable of cooking. I just don't have much motivation to at the moment. Any preference? There's a little spot down the way that makes fantastic curry." He smiled at her. "Don't worry," he assured her. "I'll take care of the cooking, and you can handle the slaying."

"It would be rather ironic, I suppose," he said with a laugh. "Death by beverage hardly seems a fitting end after everything we've done." He looked at her curiously. "Are you settled into your place here?" He didn't want to admit that he liked having her around and wasn't keen on staying here alone. "If not, there's an extra room. You would be welcome here."

It just made her grin a bit more when he rolled his eyes at her. "Yeah? Well fuck then, fine you're cooking and I'm slaying." That was like getting paid right? Something like that. "Curry's good with me, I ain't picky." About anything really but especially about food. Insert another perverted comment here.

"Yeah, but it could be worse you know. Or maybe better, I dunno." She glanced over at him a little surprised. He wanted to know where she was staying? "Uh.. I didn't really look to see where I was supposed to be staying. You know I don't really do the whole.. settling thing." And she didn't like staying alone either actually for another reason that she wasn't going to bring up. "You want me to stay? Well.. uh.. sure. If you can put up with me."

"Good lord," he said with a sigh, as he considered the implications of that particular train of thought, "I die and suddenly I'm a bloody housewife. Hell of an afterlife." He was joking. Mostly. "I'll keep that in mind."

"You could be killed by a faulty toaster, I suppose," Wesley pointed out, shrugging. That seemed a rather anticlimactic death. "I know you don't really settle," he said, not expecting her to agree, "but I just thought it could be-" He trailed off, realising she had agreed. "Good! I'm...of course I can...I'd like it if you stayed." And not only because he really did intend to do right by her as her watcher this time around. She really was the only one who understood him.

Faith snorted slightly, "I could clean I guess. But you're British, you're probably better at it than me. I ain't good at living with people or living alone, so what the fuck y'gonna do, right? You can just think of me as like the guard dog of the house, that way you ain't a housewife. Though the idea of you in an apron is kinda cute, Wes." she smirked and waggled her eyebrows at him.

God she wanted a smoke. "Then I'm stayin. You gonna make me go smoke outside? Cause.. technically, you ain't breathin so.." she trailed off and gave him almost a puppy dog expression but not quite. More like 'logic is with me on this one' even if it wasn't. She got up to her feet to go get a phone, and a menu and maybe her pack of cigarettes wherever the hell they were.

Wes shook his head. "I'm only joking, Faith," he assured her. "We can share responsibilities, cooking aside...though I would be more than happy to teach you at some point. You slay, I'll watch." And handle the magic. He laughed as she mentioned him in an apron. "You have a very odd mind, my dear."

"Good," he said. "No, I have no problems with you smoking. I've been known to engage in the habit from time to time, so it isn't any bother." Not that he would now. It would take far too much concentration. He looked over at her and smiled softly. "I'm glad that you're here, Faith." He didn't want to think of what it would be like to deal with this alone.

The idea of him teaching her to cook was more than amusing, so she just grinned and shook her head. "We'll see. I'd say that the whole teacher student thing is lost on me but you're a good teacher so I guess you could teach me to cook." If she could be taught something like cooking. Only time would tell. Her shoulders shrugged, "It's not odd. Guys cooking in aprons are hot. Get with the program."

Sweet sweet nicotine. As soon as she'd found the pack, she pulled one out and put it between her lips then lit up. After she'd inhaled, she let out the smoke in a ring and went to hand him the phone. He was being nice, overly nice and of course she didn't know how to respond so she just shrugged it again. "Uh.. sure, whatever. I ain't gonna turn down a free place to live."

He looked down, embarrassed, as she said he was a good teacher. "Not that good," he said, remembering his father's...no, the cyborg masquerading as his father's words. The single greatest embarrassment in the history of the council. "As I recall, I'm a rather dreadful teacher." But he wanted to start again. He glanced at her. "Aprons are hot now?" he asked with a smile, pushing aside his previous uncertainty. "Is this a new development I've missed, or do you just have odd fetishes."

He watched as she smoked, missing the act slightly, but the smell of cigarette smoke in the air was an oddly pleasant reminder, and he closed his eyes, consciously breathing in. He realised he wasn't acting how she expected and sighed. "I'm sorry," he said. "I just...it's been quite a while since..." He tried to think of the right words. "It's been a while since I've been around someone who understood. It's...I've missed it."

Her eyes narrowed slightly, "Look not that I'm some kinda obvious genius when it comes to who's good and who's not." Obviously. "But shut the fuck up with all that not that good nonsense. And the word dreadful. A: No one says shit like that anymore, and B: You're not. So cut that shit out." Apparently she wasn't taking no for an answer so she just kind of glared and blew out more smoke. "I'm not talking about like frilly aprons, Wes. Come on," she laughed some. "I mean y'know.. regular ones that say Kiss Me I'm A Watcher or whatever on them."

Maybe she should have got an ashtray. "Stop apologizing. Christ, it's just me. There ain't nothin to be sorry for. I get it, bein stuck in a house full of fucking teenagers and B. That's enough to make you wanna slit your wrists. I dunno how you put up with all that Angel shit. God love him but I wouldn't wanna live with him."

She couldn't help but nudge him playfully, "Aw Wes I missed you too."

"A: I'm British," Wesley said with a small smile, "so you should be used to things like that from Giles. B: Well...you're quite right...I'll refrain from casting further aspersions on my abilities as a teacher." And yes, he was using big words just to annoy her, complete with a cheeky smirk. He shook his head at her. "I very much doubt there's an apron like that in existence. The council didn't exactly have a gift shop."

He looked down again, flushing slightly, and nearly apologised for apologising, when he realised how ridiculous that would be. "There's nothing 'just' about you, Faith," he assured her. "But...I...Angel...he's a good man, and I owe him a lot...but I think if he were here? I couldn't do that again? Our friendship was rather more broken than either of us was willing to admit." He still wasn't quite sure he could forgive Angel messing with his memories. With the real memories, would he have ever joined Wolfram and Hart? And if not, would Fred still be alive?

But now wasn't the time for maudlin thoughts. "Oh stop it," he said dryly, "you're making me blush."

Faith had to admit that it was probably better than either Giles or Wes using slang. "Fine fine, use all the big words Faith doesn't know as much as you want as long as you quit the I'm not a good Watcher blah blah bullshit." She took the menu and opened it up so that she could figure out what she wanted while she smoked. "Ah now see you just issued a challenge. If I find it? You're soooo wearing it." Didn't look like he was getting out of that one either.

She thought about telling him that he was cute when he blushed but he might be expecting it. Better to wait and use that one when he's not expecting it at all. It was always fun to see the look on his face. "We both owe him a whole lot. But sometimes you gotta learn when to let go. Like.. B and Giles? Sooo not talking anymore when I'm from which is why he went over her head and got me involved with that Slayer shit."

Another drag off her cigarette and she held over the menu to him. "I'll do that if you don't find out what the fuck you want to eat so I can order it." It was hard to tell whether she meant that in a perverted way or a violent way.

"Agreed," Wesley said, nodding. "No more bullshit." Oh lord...if his father could hear him talking like that...Faith really was a terrible influence on him. He found he rather liked that. His eyes widened briefly as she mentioned actually looking for an apron like that, but he felt secure in the knowledge she wouldn't find it. "Very well. If you find it, I'll wear it." But only around their flat. He smiled to himself. Their flat. It had a nice ring to it.

"Letting go is sometimes harder than it should be," he said. "But I feel like he's let go more than he even realises." He didn't elaborate, not wanting to seem depressing. "And, in any case, this is a new start. For the both of us." Especially as it seemed Rupert wasn't the man Faith would expect him to be. "Feel up to patrolling tonight?" he asked, leaning back against the wall. "It's a new reality, yes...but there's probably still things to kill."

He took the menu from her and glanced over it, shaking his head at her comment. He pointed out what he wanted, handing the menu back to her. It felt almost domestic, if you didn't consider that this whole exchange had been preceded by him warding his flat and the two of them sparring.

Hearing him curse made the corner of her mouth twitch up slightly. And it wasn't even in anger. She really must be rubbing off on him, which was seriously amusing. "Just remember you agreed." Because hell if she was going through all that trouble only to have him be cranky about it and not wear it. Besides, where else would he wear it? Out clubbing? She really didn't think so.

"Lettin go is different then pushin people away. I think Angel clings a little too much sometimes but I'm not him and I push everyone away, so who the fuck am I to judge?" A new start, right. She liked the idea of that, not being tied down to all these people so much. "I'm just glad I don't have to go all over lookin for new Slayers and wonderin if they've ended up like me. Fucking.. spell.. pain in my ass."

Putting out her cigarette, she took the menu and nodded. "Yeah sure, I could go for killin things." He was the one who had to deal with her after she got all riled up. But he asked for it, so it's not like he could complain right? She hit the button on the phone and ordered food from the place down the street and hung up. "Uh.. y'know.. we're gonna have to find weapons." Sure she could grab a stick and kill a vamp but come on.

"I'll remember," he assured her. It was hardly as if he was prone to whining these days, though he wouldn't deny it had been a habit in his time in Sunnydale. He thought of something and gave her an amused smile. "Just to clarify the terms," he said innocently, "am I to wear anything else, or just the apron?" He felt a momentary flash of guilt, but pushed it aside. Fred would never have wanted him to shut himself off completely. He needed to be able to make jokes without feeling like he was betraying her memory.

"Angel pushes more than you might think," he said softly, feeling a stinging of guilt at the memories of the vampire who had become one of his most trusted friends. That trust clearly wasn't mutual. He forced the thoughts aside again. He was dwelling again. "I imagine that would be rather frustrating, but at least with all those Slayers, you couldn't be expected to be in all places at once, destroying all the multiple evils out there. That must have been some relief."

He looked over at her. "I was given the option of returning to the council," he told her, "albeit by a cyborg impersonating my father...I pity Rupert, by the way, for having to deal with him on a regular basis...or perhaps I don't. I sometimes wonder how things would have been different, if I'd joined you lot rather than Wolfram and Hart." He shook his head. "Sorry...idle musings." He let her order and then when she mentioned weapons, he gestured to a closed cabinet in the corner. "It was one of the first things I did," he said. "I don't like being ill prepared, and the individual I replaced does not seem to be lacking in way of funds."

The look on Faith's face said it all really. It wasn't the fact that he said it, it was the fact that she didn't think he'd ever joke about something like that with her. So the confused half-surprised look that flashed over her features was enough to prove he'd won this round. And trying to look all innocent too, now wasn't that cute? As soon as the look had disappeared, a wicked mischievous grin appeared in it's place. "Come on, this is me we're talking about. Don't you go offerin if you ain't willing to go through with it. Why you gotta be all teasin me, baby? That's cruel."

Her shoulders rolled, "Angel's lived a long time. Guess he knows what he's doin by now. It's.. y'know good I guess, not to have to do all the work, it's just. It's a lot of chicks out there who shoulda never even.. they shoulda had some normal life. Who the fuck were we.. no fuck it, who the fuck were they to say all those girls should just give up their lives." Cause in a way, though B was a saint, she looked at them like cattle, though it was hard explaining it to anyone since everyone thought the sun shone out of her ass.

Faith blinked and put up a hand, "Woah woah, you're tellin me that some robot lookin like your dad showed up? For fuck's sake, what is it with fucking geeks and making fucking robots? You ever get to see the Buffy bot? Fuckin Christ that was some scary shit." But not as scary as a robot pretending to be their dad. "Well G ain't much for followin the rules either so who the fuck knows. And ain't nobody should be on some council. It all gets fucked up in the future anyway." Her eyes wandered over to the cabinet full of weapons. "We just got here and we've already got weapons? Either you're faster then me or this place is kind of fucking awesome."

He laughed. It had been quite some time since he had felt so at ease with another person. It was a nice feeling. "Who ever said I wasn't willing to go through with it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "If those are the terms, I would, of course, comply. It's a matter of honour." He was teasing, mostly. But he really would go through with it. "It certainly wasn't my intention to be cruel, my dear."

"It wasn't anyone's place to decide that," he said, shaking his head, "but sometimes people make decisions...and once they're made, it does no good to become frustrated. You simply have to make the best possible decisions with the situation you're given. I don't agree that this situation with all these potentials being granted power is right. One day, there won't be any left...I wonder if this is the outcome the First wanted in the first place...but even beyond that, some girls just aren't prepared to have that thrust upon them." He thought briefly of Dana. "But I wasn't there for that battle. I can't know what led to that decision."

He nodded at her question, looking down at his hands. "Cyborg," he corrected. "They were at least partially organic. There was magic in place that allowed one to impersonate my father to infiltrate Wolfram and Hart...to steal the Staff of Devosynn and take Angel's will...essentially make him their puppet." He spoke clinically, not really connecting emotion with the memory. "I got the staff away from him and he threatened to shoot Fred if I didn't let him do as he planned...I never even realised until after I'd emptied my gun into his chest that it wasn't my father. In fact...I was entirely sure it was him." He shrugged. He felt rather apathetic about that decision, but Faith deserved to know the sort of man he was these days. "I like to be prepared. So it is that I'm faster than you."

If he had been expecting her to say no that was okay or just shrug it off well he had another thing coming. That was like wagging a bone in front of a dog and saying 'you can have it, but only if you really want to'. "Well then hell fucking yeah those are the terms. The apron and nothing else. Honor my ass, it's about having you strut around naked in an apron like I'm gonna give up that opportunity. Who the hell wouldn't want to see you mostly naked?" Like she would have responded any other way. This was totally his fault now, he let her run wild with it.

Getting up to go look at the cabinet and make sure it had lots of stuff in it, she wasn't quite sure what to say about that. "Well I guess when you put it that way.. maybe. I mean it was coming after every potential anyway. I guess giving the power to defend themselves was better then us just trying to keep them all safe. Cause that was.. seriously failing. And you're right, there won't be any left." Not if things happened the way that Fray girl told it. Though that was only a second hand story. It looked like everything in the cabinet was good to go, not that she expected any less.

Her back was still turned to him, "It's a fucking robot, I don't give a fuck how much of it is organic. You build it, it does what you want, it's a fucking robot. And in some cases it's a literal fucking robot." The corner of her mouth twitched up slightly. She listened, and since she wasn't facing him it was easier to keep her face and her voice neutral about shooting his father. And it didn't sound like Wes cared much about pulling the trigger. "I kinda wish I got that option. But after my dad stopped beating the shit out of us, they said he died. He just went to jail though for murder. And I didn't see much of the woman that called herself my mom." She turned around to go get another cigarette.

"I did bash in the head of the guy who was her pimp though, close enough." She said as she lit up a cigarette when there was a knock at the door. Must have been food.

Wesley nodded. "I'll be sure to remember that then," he said. He considered her question, even though he knew it was rhetorical. "I imagine a lot of people wouldn't. I'm not exactly much to look at, whatever you may think." It wasn't said with embarrassment, just stated like fact. He had too many scars, from the explosion, the shooting, Justine, his death, his father, Faith herself, and so many other things.

"I don't want to think of what will happen when the last Slayer is gone," he said, shaking his head. "Perhaps it will begin again, or perhaps the world will have to function on it's own. It will be long after our time, in any case." He was glad she approved of his weapons...or he assumed so anyway. There hadn't been any disparaging remarks.

"True enough," he was still speaking neutrally about the whole thing. He listened as she spoke of her parents, feeling a rush of empathy. Their situations were by no means the same, but there were enough common points that he could say he understood and mean it. But he didn't imagine that Faith would react well to anything that might be construed as sympathy or pity. "Fathers are bastards," he said with a shrug. "I imagine you would not get on well at all with mine. If you disliked me when I first came to Sunnydale...well...he thought I was too soft. That I failed because I wasn't strict enough. I'm hardly surprised that he felt that way, considering his approach to child rearing was to take out his cane when I displeased him...or lock me under the stairs if he was in a more forgiving mood." It was the first time he'd spoken about it so openly to anyone.

"Sometimes," he admitted, "I wish that it was him that night...not that I feel particular homicidal urges toward him, but because for the first time I stood up to him." At the knock to the door, he got up, greeting the delivery boy and paying him. Taking the food back into the flat, he settled back down on the floor. No point in fetching plates, and there were utensils in the bag.

Unable to help roll her eyes at him, she just snorted. It wasn't like she wasn't covered in scars. Little ones here and there of course and then the massive one that went through her stomach and had a matching one on the back side. Only one thing that caused that though of course she'd had her share of other injuries. Getting tossed around by Angel and the Beast had given her a couple, that was for sure. "Dude even Willow would want to see you naked, and she's gay." was all he got back, instead of just telling him to shut up.

It looked like she had relented some, "Can't do anything but focus on the present right? What's done is done." Everyone had to learn that sooner or later. It just came easier to the two of them. "Yeah, that's putting it mildly." She inhaled from her cigarette and blew it out. Trying to picture someone Wesley's dad was pretty easy, sad to say. Just judging by the way she knew him. And Watcher's in general. "Sounds like the shit that went on in just about every fucking foster home I went to. Y'know before I bashed his head in and went to juvie." It was amazing she was talking about it this much too really. She just didn't seem to mind him hearing about it because she knew he wouldn't ever try to comfort her. She really didn't need it.

Before he opened the door she turned around to face him with her hands on her hips. "Uh.. y'know.. for the record.. it wasn't your fault. The way I treated you, it wasn't cause.. you were soft. It was.. I'd say it was my fault and it is but.." her hands slid into her back pockets. "No one ever gave a shit about me until Diana and she trained me y'know? And I've seen some fucked up shit in my day. I've done a lot of fucked up .. horrific shit.. but what.. what Kakistos did to her was.. there ain't even a word for it. I.. I didn't want that shit to happen to someone else on my watch y'know?"

Then she turned around, and headed into the kitchen so that she could get them more to drink and meet him back on the floor with drinks in hand.

"That's..." Wesley trailed off, trying to come up with an appropriate word for what she had said, but found himself unable to think of anything. "That's rather disturbing really. Though...I suppose it could be worse. You could have used Alexander as an example. Or Spike. Or Rupert." Though there had been a time when he might not have minded the last all that much. Not any more though. Like with Angel, there was far too much baggage between himself and the other watcher.

"I never really understood it," he admitted. "I always tried so bloody hard, but he had it in his head that I would be a watcher, like him. It was only after Sunnydale...I realised I would never be good enough in his eyes, so I stopped trying to be what he wanted me to be." He smiled. "My mother is a lovely woman...but she's never been especially strong and she hates conflict. It was always easier for her to just look the other way. But I hardly blame her. I never would have wanted her hurt."

He smiled at Faith, touched by what she was saying. "Thank you," he said softly. "It...this may sound silly or trite...but that means a lot. Of everyone...I always figured you had the most reason to resent me. The others...it just seemed so petty. I only regret that I didn't do more for you...that I fucked up so spectacularly when you needed me to be there for you...but if we're being honest...I know now that the council never expected me to succeed. Quite the opposite. They wanted me to fail and lead you girls to your deaths, so that they could start over with a slayer they could control. They always did underestimate you too."

As she joined him, he smiled again. "We'll do things right this time," he said, confident that he was right about that. "Now...I imagine we're both tired of sharing, so let's eat before it gets cold."
