Who: Faith and Wes
What: Sparring, talking, god knows
When: Tonight
Where: Somewhere in London
Warnings: At the very least Faith's mouth warrants a pg-13

After Faith had gotten herself to London and to the place where Wes lived, she'd been let in and had some small talk with her once and former Watcher. Neither of them were the talking types, so she stretched out, and then they sparred. It felt good to just spar and not have to worry about some kind of evil coming to kill her for the next half an hour or so. And by the end she was sweating and exhausted and probably really horny, but when wasn't she?

Not that she was going to do anything about it. At least not until she left him. After she made sure he couldn't take anymore, she went to go find them some water. "Do you even have fucking water in this place? Or do you have to go to the store?" she asked as she walked back into the kitchen and opened up the fridge.

The sparring had been good. For the first time since he had died in Fred's...no, Illyria's arms...he'd felt something besides an overwhelming numbness. The rush of adrenaline and the ache in his muscles. He felt alive. He was sweating and as exhausted as Faith, if not more, though it was harder to tell than with her, because he didn't need to catch his breath and his pulse wasn't racing. It was still odd to get used to that. There were moments in the fight when he'd forgotten that he had to breathe, and he'd spent a moment trying to catch his breath before he would remember.

He rolled his eyes as Faith spoke, stifling a laugh. In some ways, she was the same girl he'd met years ago. "There's a filter on the tap," he said. "I suppose whoever I replaced was rather environmentally conscious."

Though it looked like she might have bitched for a moment about having to get water out of the tap, she realized that well if she was going to bitch about not having bottled water she deserved to be shot. So she grabbed a glass and filled it up. "Do you want any? Fuck do you even eat?" she asked in between gulps of water, calling out more then poking her head back into the living room.

"Fuck that environmentally conscious bullshit. World's gonna explode but not from global warming." That was for damn sure.

"I don't honestly know," Wesley said. "This is something of an irregularity. I don't need to breathe, but I'm capable of speaking, which shouldn't be possible. I can breathe with conscious effort, and my muscles still work even though there is no blood flow, so I imagine it wouldn't hurt. It is mystical, after all." He realised he was talking more than necessary. "Anyway...yes. Water would be lovely."

"True enough, but let them have their causes. Everyone needs something to fight for. And not all of us can fight the true evils that are out there."

"There's only one way to figure it out." She said as she filled yet another glass of water and then finally brought them both out to the living room. "Guess if this doesn't send you into fits, we can try food and see if you go all writhing on the floor." Her eyebrows lifted in amusement and she handed the glass of water to him.

Her nose wrinkled, "Man fuck all that saving trees by using plastic instead of paper? Come on that ain't fighting for shit. They wanna fight for the environment, they should fucking push their car to work." She slumped down on the floor and stretched out her legs. Out of the corner of her eye she was watching to make sure he wasn't going to fall on the floor and croak from water.

Wesley couldn't help laughing at that. "I hardly imagine you would complain," he said, taking the glass from her, "were I writhing about on the floor." He took a long drink of water, and it felt perfectly normal. "Unfortunately, it seems I won't be entertaining you with fits and writhing today." He smiled. "Did you want to get takeaway? I think it was about time to do the shopping, or this person was as hopeless in the kitchen as Gunn. There wasn't much in the way of food."

He shook his head. "I agree, but this person didn't have a car either, so they seem to follow through on that count." He shrugged, settling down next to her on the floor. He noticed her watching him from the corner of her eye and he smiled. "I promise you haven't killed me with water. Such would be a rather anticlimactic death."

Her shoulders shrugged some, "Depends on which way you're gonna be writhin on the floor." Then she started to grin, because she was dirty and Wes knew she was dirty so she figured he knew how to ignore her by now. She didn't actually want him to writhe around on the floor cause she gave him water. "Takeaway. You're gonna cook?" she tried not to snort. "Don't be looking at me for cookin I couldn't toast bread." She was pretty sure that even Gunn was better at cooking then she was.

Since she was caught, Faith just smirked and shook her head. "Good, though that would be really fucking funny. We do all that shit and then die from some water."

Wes rolled his eyes, but knew that he'd walked into that. Faith had a mostly one track mind, and it did no good to encourage her. "I'll have you know," he said, "that I am perfectly capable of cooking. I just don't have much motivation to at the moment. Any preference? There's a little spot down the way that makes fantastic curry." He smiled at her. "Don't worry," he assured her. "I'll take care of the cooking, and you can handle the slaying."

"It would be rather ironic, I suppose," he said with a laugh. "Death by beverage hardly seems a fitting end after everything we've done." He looked at her curiously. "Are you settled into your place here?" He didn't want to admit that he liked having her around and wasn't keen on staying here alone. "If not, there's an extra room. You would be welcome here."

It just made her grin a bit more when he rolled his eyes at her. "Yeah? Well fuck then, fine you're cooking and I'm slaying." That was like getting paid right? Something like that. "Curry's good with me, I ain't picky." About anything really but especially about food. Insert another perverted comment here.

"Yeah, but it could be worse you know. Or maybe better, I dunno." She glanced over at him a little surprised. He wanted to know where she was staying? "Uh.. I didn't really look to see where I was supposed to be staying. You know I don't really do the whole.. settling thing." And she didn't like staying alone either actually for another reason that she wasn't going to bring up. "You want me to stay? Well.. uh.. sure. If you can put up with me."

"Good lord," he said with a sigh, as he considered the implications of that particular train of thought, "I die and suddenly I'm a bloody housewife. Hell of an afterlife." He was joking. Mostly. "I'll keep that in mind."

"You could be killed by a faulty toaster, I suppose," Wesley pointed out, shrugging. That seemed a rather anticlimactic death. "I know you don't really settle," he said, not expecting her to agree, "but I just thought it could be-" He trailed off, realising she had agreed. "Good! I'm...of course I can...I'd like it if you stayed." And not only because he really did intend to do right by her as her watcher this time around. She really was the only one who understood him.

Faith snorted slightly, "I could clean I guess. But you're British, you're probably better at it than me. I ain't good at living with people or living alone, so what the fuck y'gonna do, right? You can just think of me as like the guard dog of the house, that way you ain't a housewife. Though the idea of you in an apron is kinda cute, Wes." she smirked and waggled her eyebrows at him.

God she wanted a smoke. "Then I'm stayin. You gonna make me go smoke outside? Cause.. technically, you ain't breathin so.." she trailed off and gave him almost a puppy dog expression but not quite. More like 'logic is with me on this one' even if it wasn't. She got up to her feet to go get a phone, and a menu and maybe her pack of cigarettes wherever the hell they were.

Wes shook his head. "I'm only joking, Faith," he assured her. "We can share responsibilities, cooking aside...though I would be more than happy to teach you at some point. You slay, I'll watch." And handle the magic. He laughed as she mentioned him in an apron. "You have a very odd mind, my dear."

"Good," he said. "No, I have no problems with you smoking. I've been known to engage in the habit from time to time, so it isn't any bother." Not that he would now. It would take far too much concentration. He looked over at her and smiled softly. "I'm glad that you're here, Faith." He didn't want to think of what it would be like to deal with this alone.

The idea of him teaching her to cook was more than amusing, so she just grinned and shook her head. "We'll see. I'd say that the whole teacher student thing is lost on me but you're a good teacher so I guess you could teach me to cook." If she could be taught something like cooking. Only time would tell. Her shoulders shrugged, "It's not odd. Guys cooking in aprons are hot. Get with the program."

Sweet sweet nicotine. As soon as she'd found the pack, she pulled one out and put it between her lips then lit up. After she'd inhaled, she let out the smoke in a ring and went to hand him the phone. He was being nice, overly nice and of course she didn't know how to respond so she just shrugged it again. "Uh.. sure, whatever. I ain't gonna turn down a free place to live."

He looked down, embarrassed, as she said he was a good teacher. "Not that good," he said, remembering his father's...no, the cyborg masquerading as his father's words. The single greatest embarrassment in the history of the council. "As I recall, I'm a rather dreadful teacher." But he wanted to start again. He glanced at her. "Aprons are hot now?" he asked with a smile, pushing aside his previous uncertainty. "Is this a new development I've missed, or do you just have odd fetishes."

He watched as she smoked, missing the act slightly, but the smell of cigarette smoke in the air was an oddly pleasant reminder, and he closed his eyes, consciously breathing in. He realised he wasn't acting how she expected and sighed. "I'm sorry," he said. "I just...it's been quite a while since..." He tried to think of the right words. "It's been a while since I've been around someone who understood. It's...I've missed it."

Her hands went up in defense, "I only call em like I see em. The only one Spike's all gay for is Angel." It was possible she had seen something between Wes and Giles but she didn't say anything. It was probably in her own wishful thinking place stored in her brain anyway. At least she had made her point.

"Not that I know anything about.. y'know whatever, but was your grandfather like that? I mean if your pops couldn't live up to his pop's standards then that shit seems to just keep goin. I'm pretty sure the only reason I didn't turn out on drugs or as a hooker is cause of this shit," she said as she sunk down onto the floor. She was glad that he had one parent who wasn't a complete jerk and waste of time like hers had been. Oh Faith and all of her daddy issues. But she wasn't gonna talk about that. Ever.

"You didn't fuck up, Wes. It just.. happened. I dunno if there wasn't anything anyone could do. And they only resented you cause I did cause they thought I was cool," she let out a snort. Wasn't that a total laugh? Her being cool, yeah maybe in the beginning but that had changed and fast. "But you're right about the Council, that was all kinds of fucked up so maybe it wasn't our faults anyway." Who the hell knew right? No sense in dwelling on the past. Instead she opened up the cartons of food so that they could eat. "Man this shit is good.." she said in between mouthfuls.

"Well, that's certainly a relief," Wesley said with a laugh. "I've heard his poetry and really wouldn't want him to be gay for me." Even if she had seen something between himself and the older man, it was long gone. He wasn't sure he would ever be able to forgive him for refusing to help them save Fred.

"I don't remember my grandfather, honestly," Wesley said with a shrug. "He died when I was still rather young. I really couldn't say what he was like." He looked at Faith. "I think even without this," he made a vague gesture with his hand as if that could encompass the enormity of what 'this' meant, the legacy of Slayers and Watchers, "you would have become more than your background. You're not the kind of person to accept that lot without one hell of a fight. I admire that about you."

"I did a bit," he said. "We all made mistakes...in our own ways, we were all very young then...it's strange to think it was only a little more than five years ago...we've all changed so much." He looked over curiously. "I assume Buffy and Rupert rebuilt the Council somewhat differently?" he asked. Not that he was curious. Of course not. He'd cut ties with the Council, burned that bridge well enough. He ate some and nodded his agreement. "Very good...or we're more hungry than we thought."

"Poetry? Oh christ I would've liked to hear that." And then totally make fun of him because she would have so bad. Never would have let him live that down, not ever. Faith certainly agreed with him about not wanting Spike to go gay for him she didn't even want Spike to be straight for her. She had had enough of B's sloppy seconds after that horrible time with Riley. Totally not doing that again.

"Well who knows, maybe your dad is just fucked up." It didn't always have to be the parents fault, it just usually was. "Fightin's what I do best, so I guess you're right. It's just that all that fightin landed me in jail." Though she did smile when he said he admired her for something. It was nice, she was pretty sure no one else admired her for anything. Except maybe her ass.

Was it really only five years ago? It felt like forever. And one of those years she had spent in a coma, so maybe that's why. Jail made it feel like forever too. "I dunno about you but murder and coma and jail changes a person," she said smartly. At his question she kind of shrugged. "I guess. I mean it was all made up of people I can't stand still. But it's still better than the old one. Except for Andrew. Andrew just needs to fuck off."

She glanced at him, "I am always hungry so you'd better eat up before you reach in and find out there ain't nothin left to eat."

"No, you really wouldn't," Wesley said, shaking his head. "It was...terrible isn't a strong enough description. The word 'effulgent' doesn't belong in poetry, particularly not when paired with 'tis grown a bulge in it'." There really were no words for just how bad Spike's poetry was. "There's also the fact that he acts like a stalker when he's interested in someone."

"I'd say that's a fairly accurate assessment of my father as a person," Wesley agreed, unused to talking so openly about his family life. He smiled as Faith spoke. "I imagine you would be capable of a great number of things," he said. "Certainly more than just fighting."

Five years felt like a lifetime, and for him it had been. They had all been so young then. So naive. They thought that they knew what was coming, but they were so very clueless. They hadn't known anything really. If someone had told him five years ago where he'd be now, he would have laughed. "Lots of things change us," he said softly. "I imagine the list contains very few pleasant things." Betrayal, death, loss, failure. They had all changed him. "I guess we should just be glad there is no council here to answer to."

He laughed. He'd almost forgotten about Slayer metabolisms. He ate his food in silence, then glanced over at her, unsure of what else to say. "It will be dark by the time we're done, so we can head out then, see what this world has to offer by way of threats."

A look of horror and amusement passed over her face and she just shook her head. "Effulgent? I don't even know what the word fucking means. Or how it rhymes with bulge.. god I don't want to know. Never ever tell me." Because she had a feeling that she'd want to rip out her ears and maybe her eyes by the time they were done. "How about we vow never to talk about Spike like... ever again?" Because she could totally live with that.

"Hey not to boast but uh," well if he was going to tell her she was good at more than just fighting. "I'm good at just two things. Fighting, and I'm sure you can guess the other one." If she was the winking kind of girl she would have winked at him. Instead she just kind of gave him that dirty smile she'd given him several times before. Really he kept opening himself up to comments like that.

Sitting back, she took another couple of sips of her drink. "I'm trying to think if there's been anything positive in my life except killin evil and I don't think so. Present company excluded but you know what I mean. Oh trust me, I am seriously fucking glad there's no council. Even if there was, they'd be shut down in a minute." Fuck that nonsense.

Glancing down to the food, she pushed some over towards him so she really didn't eat it all, "Then I guess you should eat up otherwise you're no gonna be able to keep up with me." And she was just about done with her own portion anyway.

"Bright, shining, radiant, etcetera," Wesley said. "It's not so much the meaning that's the problem as it is the fact that it's just a ridiculous word." And that was enough on that topic. "I fully support any plan that involves not mentioning Spike ever again," he agreed.

Wesley rolled his eyes. "You know full well that isn't at all what I meant," he said. "While I'm sure your skills in that area are decent," the word was chosen purposefully to rile her up, "I very much doubt it's your only non-violent skill." Come to think of it, he very much doubted sex with her was non-violent.

He nodded his head, taking a sip of his drink and working on finishing his food. "What we do gives us a sense of purpose," he said. "Without it, we would be empty. It's the one part of our lives that makes us feel whole. It's hard to find anything else that measures up to that." It was what led him to Angel, when he no longer had a Slayer. He'd needed something to connect him to the fight. Someone to guide and help.

"It's hardly as if I'll have to stop to catch my breath," he pointed out as he finished eating. Picking up the empty containers, he took them back to the kitchen and threw them away before cleaning his glass and returning to Faith.

Right, no more Spike. If he was planning on riling her up he had done a good job because she looked particularly affronted. "Excuse me?? What is up with all you boys thinkin I ain't the best lay you've ever had? Decent my ass. I am fucking fantastic in bed thank you very much." Her shoulders rolled a bit, "Nah it's really my only non-violent skill. Not that it ain't violent half the time." she wasn't ever disclosing whether or not she had done the deed all nice and slow. Oh maybe with Riley. Ugh, yeah let's not think about that.

"I sure as hell don't want shit to be empty. I have no fucking clue what I would do if I wasn't doing this." She didn't have any other purpose or skills or anything else that wasn't tied to this, it was all she knew. And sure there wasn't anything else she wanted to do, but that's cause she didn't know what else there was.

Since they were done, she got up and handed him her plates and junk before going to the cabinet so that she could get weapons out and stalk up. Stakes in her back pockets and then she got out a crossbow. Oh man how she missed the crossbow. "I'm ready when you are."

"To be fair," Wesley said mildly, "you couldn't be the best lay I've ever had. That wouldn't imply I've had you. And really, I'm very pleased for you. It's good that you have such confidence in your skills." He knew he should quit teasing her, but it was fun. "Feel free to spare me the details. I'd really rather not know what you've gotten up to and with whom."

"Neither do I," Wesley said. "I grew up knowing I'd be a Watcher...that I'd be fighting evil. I lost half of that...or I had." He felt like maybe, with Faith here, he could reclaim that piece of himself. "I think if I couldn't continue fighting evil, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. It's rather sad, isn't it? We both define ourself with roles created by foolish men from centuries ago who meddled with forces they should have left alone."

When he was done cleaning up, Wesley grabbed his jacket. He was glad it hadn't been damaged with his untimely demise...he was rather attached to it. He added stakes and holy water, a crossbow and his gun. He felt better with the weapons. Less vulnerable.

Her eyes narrowed but she wasn't actually annoyed. She knew he was teasing her and it was fun defending her wild sexual skills. "Hey I told you anytime you want to find out, I'd be willing to give you a ride. You know, just so you can see for yourself." She smirked and put her hands on her hips, turning around to face him. "Don't worry, I ain't the kind to fuck and tell." That was for sure.

"It is sad, yeah. Fucking old insane mystics who thought they'd just decide to take it upon themselves." It wasn't like she didn't know about how in the beginning it had to deal with demons. "But I guess for the most part they knew what they were doin otherwise we wouldn't be so damn good at it." Or something like that, it was hard to tell the difference between fate and things they chose.

Not needing the jacket since it always got dirty, she headed with him outside their flat and onto the street. It was quiet but they lived in a place with people. "So.. cemetery?"

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind," Wesley said, shaking his head with amusement. Not that he thought the offer was something to laugh at, but the whole situation had a certain humour to it. "And really, who would you tell? Yes, I'm sure Rupert and Willow would be properly scandalised, but it isn't as if they're our parents."

"We may as well make the best of the lot they left us," he agreed. "We are damn good at it, after all." Their roles were fate, to fight and to protect...and in their case, occasionally play the anti-hero when the situation called for it But what they did with those duties, how much of themselves they gave, was their choice.

"Cemetary," he agreed with a nod. It would be the easiest place to start for tonight. Later, they could check some of the parks. He had no doubt there would be some vampires there.

Most of the time Faith would find offense at the fact that he was being so amused at the thought of having sex with her. But since it was Wes and he was trying to get a rise out of her she just rolled her eyes, "Not telling anybody. Man fuck them. Though seeing the look on their faces would be fucking priceless." Maybe she would just say something even if it wasn't true just to see it.

With a nod of her head they were out and about and she let out a deep sigh. "We are damn good," she kept her eyes and her ears open for whatever might be lurking about. It probably wouldn't take too long right? Vamps had to be all over.

No, Wesley most certainly wasn't amused at the thought of sex with her. If he was truly honest, it was something he'd thought about, even after she'd tortured him. But discussing it over curry, while preparing to patrol. It was rather surreal in some ways, but simultaneously so normal for his life. He shook his head. Their normal would send most people running for the hills. He smirked. "It would almost be worth telling them, just to see their reaction." Faith was a bad influence on him.

They walked in companionable silence until they reached the cemetery. Already, he felt a certain peace that came with the hunt. He hadn't realised that he'd missed this. Too much of their work at Wolfram and Hart was business. Not this thrilling, physical aspect that reminded him that as dead as he was, he was still alive.
