Who: Iggy and whoever (Open post here people, dogpile!)
Where: Central Park
When: Thursday afternoon
Why: Because Iggy's decided to take a chance.

Thanks to Henn and her highly scientific survey results, Iggy had decided to take a chance on the place and see what happened. He was still as nervous as anything, but he was good at putting on a brave front, that was one of the first things the Flock had learned, not to show how shaken they were.

This was a chance that he knew Max would probably kill him for, and then figure out how to bring him back from the dead just so she could kill him again. He was still mostly worried about Erasers more than any of the actual people, but the whole time he'd been here he hadn't gotten a smell, even the faintest whiff, anywhere. This made him bold.

In any case, anyone walking through Central Park, somewhere south of the middle, near the turtle pond, would probably see a dishwater blonde teenage boy, skipping stones out across the pond with an eerie accuracy for the fact that he was focused somewhere far beyond the water's edge. Aside from that, he had wings folded down against his shoulders in lieu of a coat, gold-brown feathers marking him as a raptor of some kind, though he certainly didn't look it otherwise.

"I thought you lived with a club kid. The stuff's all over you clothes, but not you." He nodded, against, mostly for his own benefit.

"It at least helped me to stop feeling like such a freak. Not having to explain to a boss why I couldn't sit at a desk for more than two hours on end, not having to pretend to be normal. It's nice. Normal's overrated,"

There was another small smile, "Guess she's not making it up then, good to know." Not that he'd doubted it, really, but outside verification was welcome.

"Used to wish for normal. Until I got it." He shook his head, "Normal is overrated."

He laughed a little at that, rolling his head and stretching his shoulders. He'd been a bird for the past few days, thinking through all the emotions being in the past left him with. The weight of human arms made his neck tense up- psychosomatic, probably, but there none the less.

"Living with a fairy is normal for you?" He sounded curious, but not necessarily judgemental. The 'living as a bird' ideal sort of supressed any feelings of self-entitlement, where judgement was concerned. "Sorry, don't answer that. I'm still not great at this," If he even knew what 'this' was.

He shook his head, that same almost-wry smile in place, "No. Had normal before I hit the storm and got dragged here. Was running the hell away from normal."

It was easier to focus on the man now, there was still a distance to his gaze that tended to bother most people, but at least he had the right angle, "Wasn't trying to find this much not-normal though."

Tobias was used to being spoken to without eye contact, especially considering how much time he spent in other bodies. It was a good sign, or at least he thought, that Iggy was putting up the effort.

"Well, at least you got away from the normal? And this place isn't so bad. When it's not throwing you a decade into your past, or shutting off gravity, or inflicting awful musical talent on you." And yes, all of those were said with enough sincerity to imply firsthand experience.

"Don't think I'd mind anti-gravity so much." He said with a shrug, attention caught by a splash in the pond, brow creasing, "Duck? Or turtle? Should be too cold for turtles."

He shook his head then, "I've been here a couple weeks and I still don't totally believe that I'm not making it up. Not stuck in a box somewhere with my DNA coming unraveled."

"Duck, and I'm impressed." He knew that most blind men developed good senses of hearing, but not to the point of being able to determine almost exactly what did what. " No, anti-gravity wasn't so bad. At least not as a bird. Going mammal was tough- too many limbs to negotiate.

"And for what it's worth? You're not making it up. There's no real reason to believe me, I know, but sometimes hearing it repeated helps. Besides, you really think your delusion would be creative enough to throw you in with fairies and guys who spend most of their lives as birds? In the future?" It was one of the main reasons he'd stopped thinking he was living in a delusion- there was no way he could even think up half of the crazy things that went on, there.

"Don't know." He said with a shrug, "None of us knows what happens when our expiration date comes up. And knowing what I've already been through? This is pretty tame." The wry smile returned, "Though I'm still trying to rationalize everything, figure out what experience I had that brought it around here."

He shook his head, "I wouldn't be doing this if I were back home. Too exposed, too dangerous."

His head cocked to the side, a show of birdlike confusion, although it was probably lost on Iggy, save the tone of his voice. "Brought what around, here?" He understood the paranoia well- it had taken him years to really feel comfortable in groups of people, or even just in buildings, after he'd gotten his second chance. It was enough to make him sigh, eyes drifting to the ground in a sign of genuine emotion.

"I'm not going to lie and tell you this place is completely safe, because it isn't. It wouldn't be Earth if it was, right? But for every idiot trying to wreck a good thing, I've seen at least a dozen people step in to beat them down. The good outweighs the bad. Sometimes that's really all you can ask for," It wasn't the most reassuring speeches he had, but it was honest. And, considering how much Iggy reminded him of himself, he figured honest was the way to go.

He shook his head, "Brought any of this into my subconscious hallucination, or whatever it is I think is going on here." A shrug, "And I don't know if catching myself thinking it's a hallucination and reminding myself that it probably isn't is a good thing or a bad thing."

He nodded at the rest, just thinking it over for a moment, inspecting it from all sides, the same as he did with anything, the gears turning in his head were almost audible as he picked the pep talk apart mentally to look at the pieces. Finally what he came up with was: "So, aliens, huh? Not amniocentesis cell-tampering?"

"First diagnostic criterion of insanity is whether or not you believe you are. If you can rationalize enough to think that you're crazy, you're not," That sounded like something Tobias had studied far too well. "I'm guessing delusions work the same way? So I'd go with good."

The conclusion Iggy reached got another soft laugh out of Tobias, and he nodded. "Aliens. I won't claim to know how it worked- there was this cube we all had to touch, that did... something? You know, I never did figure out the how," He sounded thoughtful for a second, before shrugging. "And I have no idea what... cell-tampering would really involve. Maybe something like that. All I know is, I can touch something, acquire its DNA, and turn into it at will." Which was something he knew wasn't free information a decade in his past, but Iggy seemed to be trying to open up, and he was pretty sure he wasn't going to go around talking about it.

"I'm guessing the second was what happened to you?" He tried to make that sound as unobtrusive as possible, and probably failed.

There was a smile at the first, it was small, and it was fleeting, but it was there all the same, "That's a good explanation for it, and it kind of explains why I haven't hallucinated anyone I know."

There was a nod at the question, "Yeah. I'm what's called a recombinant DNA hybrid. 98% human, 2% bird." He scrubbed a hand through his hair, "And what's weird is that that isn't weird around here, I've been told it's awful, but not weird." He was still just a little wary mentioning it, but really, going around without his wings hidden was the hardest part, anything after that was semantics.

Tobias nodded. "Or made things more ideal, right? I'd like to believe my subconscious would be kind enough to at least fix a few things, if it was making this whole place up," He smiled himself, reactionary from seeing Iggy's, even though he knew it wouldn't be seen.

Recombinant seemed to suggest he wasn't born that way, which Tobias wasn't sure how to take. But he knew better than to ask. "Considering exactly how many superheroes and mutants are running around just this city, that are less than 98% human, I'd say it's one of this place's definitions of normal, actually. Lucky us,"

He nodded at that, hands still in his pockets, "Sort of, I figure Matrix had that one right though, that people can't deal with ideal and have to have something broken otherwise they know something's wrong."

He shrugged, head tilting, just listening again, still cataloging noises, keeping tabs on what was around, one wing flicking reflexively before folding down against his shoulder again, "I met a mutant the other day, as far as I could tell she's normal though, I mean, no scales or extra limbs or anything, the only thing is that she's got a... I don't know, she called it a Shadow, with a capital S, it just felt..." He shook his head, brow furrowing, "I don't know, how to explain it, like it should have been cold but wasn't, and should have been solid, but wasn't, not exactly. She said he liked me though, and she's the one who convinced me to do this," A highly eloquent flick of his wings, almost a shrug, "so that's something."

"That's true. Still, there's one or two things I would have taken the liberty to change. Not having a place to stay, for one. It is way too cold in this city to sleep in trees."

His head cocked at the mention of a Shadow, and he thought about that. "I've never heard of that. Interesting. And a lot of the mutants can look plain at least some of the time, sure. I'm sure you look completely ordinary with a jacket on, the same way I look ordinary now. Looks really aren't the important thing here." Which he was sure Iggy knew, being blind and all, but he didn't want to say that; Iggy joking was one thing, but that didn't make it right to joke back. "What was she convincing you to do? Teach the lake some manners?"

He nodded at that, "For that matter I am a mutant, it's just she came by hers naturally, y'know, evolution, survival of the species or whatever."

The wry smile came back at the last, "Yeah, something like that. She's ten, I've got a... sister, her age, and I know there's no arguing with ten-year-old girls." Especially ones that were being helpful.

"I know that's right. There's no arguing with girls period, but that mght just be me." He shrugged a little himself, looking around a little. "You want to get something to eat? My treat. I just missed a meal," Or three, "Flying around today."

He actually had to think about that one, but he did finally nod, "Sure, I could eat." The half-crooked smile returned, "Got metabolism like a bird, so I can pretty much always eat. You have anywhere in mind? I know a couple places nearby."

Tobias laughed at that, before letting out a sigh. "Preaching to the choir on that one. And no, nothing in mind. Whatever you're in the mood for." It was bound to beat the pigeon he had planned on eating, otherwise.

There was another one of those quick, sharp laughs from Iggy, shrugging and folding his wings down again, not completely into the hollows behind his spine, just into a neutral position, "Well, there's Chinese a few blocks east, but they're usually pretty busy come lunchtime, and Italian about the same distance in the opposite direction, but same deal, they're pretty busy around lunch."

He shrugged then, "I'm good with a good old-fashioned authentic New York deli, how about you?"

"Deli sounds good. You know of one? Closest one I can think of is uptown, unless you wanted to fly." He was assuming the wings were functional, but then, if he was admittedly part hawk, it would be odd for them not to be.

That was something else he had to think about for a minute, it had been a while since he'd flown in broad daylight, this close to a population center, but so far nothing had gone wrong, and he decided to count on that continuing, nodding once, "I know a place." A shrug, "If it's in the same place here as it is in the New York I know. You up for more flying before food?"

Tobias had another grin on, nodding for his own benefit. "Sure. I'll have to take a minute to change back, but it's no big. Two ticks," He stepped back behind the same gathering of bushes once Iggy answered him, crouching down to morph. The same sort of popping and liquid noises could be heard, before a softer rustling, the bird hopping up onto a nearby bench.

Iggy smiled again, "Up and away, I bet you can keep up." He said before shifting himself back a little so that he could take a running start, it was easier than taking off from a dead standstill, the tips of his wings grazed the surface of the pond with the first downward stroke, grinning as he circled, finding a gap in the trees and rocketing upward, circling and trying to find a good thermal while letting his internal compass settle.

The hawk gave him room to get into the air before taking off after him, staying just close enough to Iggy's right shoulder to be sensed. Once they hit one of the larger paved paths in the park, the heat from the cement gave him a good lift upward, getting a little happy squawk out of Tobias.
