Who: Iggy and whoever (Open post here people, dogpile!)
Where: Central Park
When: Thursday afternoon
Why: Because Iggy's decided to take a chance.

Thanks to Henn and her highly scientific survey results, Iggy had decided to take a chance on the place and see what happened. He was still as nervous as anything, but he was good at putting on a brave front, that was one of the first things the Flock had learned, not to show how shaken they were.

This was a chance that he knew Max would probably kill him for, and then figure out how to bring him back from the dead just so she could kill him again. He was still mostly worried about Erasers more than any of the actual people, but the whole time he'd been here he hadn't gotten a smell, even the faintest whiff, anywhere. This made him bold.

In any case, anyone walking through Central Park, somewhere south of the middle, near the turtle pond, would probably see a dishwater blonde teenage boy, skipping stones out across the pond with an eerie accuracy for the fact that he was focused somewhere far beyond the water's edge. Aside from that, he had wings folded down against his shoulders in lieu of a coat, gold-brown feathers marking him as a raptor of some kind, though he certainly didn't look it otherwise.

"Definitely better than gopher or fire-roasted baloney on a stick." He shrugged, "Not that that's what I'd be having at Navi's, but it's kind of what I'm used to. Well, stuff burned on sticks, not the gopher." He shook his head then, digging into his own sandwich. He was a surprisingly tidy eater, for a guy who couldn't see what he was doing.

In contrast, Tobias was a pretty messy eater- but considered it fair, with only having hands for less than half his life. "Hey, gopher's not bad. And this... is not good table conversation is it?" He chuckled, taking a drink. "See, I need to get out more."

He laughed, shaking his head, "Don't look at me, I'm not even used to having a table, let alone conversation to go with it."

A shrug, "Usually the Flock's lucky if we remember to get out the forks."

"You'd get along well with the people I'd been living with before this place. Granted, they were aliens, and much closer to... my usual eating habits. But they were good folks. Honest, sort of lifelong children, without the war." His tone was fond, unsure of exactly why he was bringing the Hork Bajir into things, but it was harmless, now. There hadn't been one on this Earth yet, that he knew.

There was another amused sound, shaking his head, "I might." A shrug, "Really Navi's the same way, about the forks. Usually we just eat everything right out of the boxes it comes in."

Tobias shrugged to match. "No one around to impress, that's perfectly fair. Navi's the-" Slight pause, "Fairy, you live with?" It was meant as a curiousity thing, nothing more. It was a job hazard, his default form of smalltalk immediately rounding around to questions.

He nodded, "Yeah. She teaches kindergarten, and she kind of rescued me from the place I landed in when the storm brought me here." There was another one of those wholly-Iggy wry smiles, "Which still sounds weird every time I say it."

"Oh, don't worry. Your definition of weird will get wider and wider, as time goes on. For instance," He put on a straight face, "Last week, in my time, I was called across the ocean to deal with a misplaced fleet of Viking longboats, that beached themselves on the lawn of Windsor Palace.

"It was the most normal job I'd been on, in a month,"

He blinked at that, then again, then dragged a hand through his hair once more, "Okay, you win." The smile returned, shaking his head, "Just going to take some getting used to, right?"

Tobias chuckled, taking another drink before answering. "It's a rather dubious thing to win, but yeah. You get used to it, eventually. This place makes that real easy,"

"I'm starting to learn that." He said, finishing off his sandwich and dusting the crumbs off his fingers, just holding his coffee between both hands for the time being, using it as a handwarmer.

"And it sounds like you have friends around to help. Two steps ahead of the competition, right there." He hadn't mentioned his friends from home in a sense that would suggest they were there, but even just meeting people from the universe was something. And he had to assume they would arrive. It seemed to be the way things worked.

He shrugged at that, taking a sip of his coffee, "I've got Navi, and Raven, sort of. Mostly I just pay attention to what people are talking about on the forum."

Tobias smiled, twirling his bottle of tea in his hands. "Assuming I remember- which I'd like to- you could cound me, and a few others in with that. But yeah, the boards are the best source of information any of us are going to have." There was actually someone on the payroll at X-Factor, just to read the boards and decypher any threat.

"It'd be nice" comforting "To have a Flock again." He shook his head at the followup, "That sounds like a hell of a job to have." There was a pause then, taking another gulp of his coffee, "X-Factor?"

"Well," The smile was evident in his voice, "Not all of my friends have wings all the time. Although most of them can become birds. I think you'd like them- Jake, Rachel, Marco," He didn't mention Cassie and Ax, not needing the reminder of them being lost.

He made a slight face at the question about X-Factor. "Yeah, it's... an agency in town, run mostly by mutants and superheroes. Some minor crimefighting, but mostly they help with the new mutants in town. Handle the issues that can come up, adjusting to 'normal' life. I actually headed there, shortly after I came here. Got me where I am today."

There was a small smile at the first, "And I don't have that many friends yet, so far the distinction is Raven, but he's ... well, he's Raven." There was a shrug, this was really all the explanation needed. And he wasn't thinking about his real flock for much the same reason Tobias wasn't thinking about Ax and Cassie, thinking about it hurt too much.

"That's...huh." He shook his head, "Sounds like quite an operation."

He wasn't sure what was left to say about their friends- he didn't know a Raven, speficifally. So, he moved on to the comment on X-Factor.

"It's not bad. Madrox, the Multiple Man, had run the same sort of operation in hsi old universe, where mutants were seen as a 'problem'. Here, it's basically a halfway house for those of us that don't have an accepting family when we're dropped in. I helped them out with a case from a world like mine, and Jamie offered to stick me on the payroll. It's good work, considering I never made it out of high school."

He nodded again, "We aren't a problem back home, just..." A one-shouldered shrug, "Nobody knows about us except the people who made us, and they want us back to take us apart and try again."

There was that wry little smile again, "And not going to school seems to be a problem with bird-kids. I never went at all until recently."

"Well, neither were we, although the whole 'saving the world' thing sort of helped with that. In his universe, though, mutations were far more common, and treated like a disease- you know, the X-Men? Some of them started the whole thing,"

At the comment on his schooling, Tobias smiled a little wider. "I wasn't a great student anyway, but after most of my teachers were taken over by the aliens trying for world domination? Having to slip out every two hours to turn back into a bird seemed like a bad idea. They wanted us dead." He shrugged. "I don't think I ever officially dropped out, but everyone thought we were dead for the longest time. I think that counts,"

"The place that made us was called 'the School'" He shook his head, "It wasn't. Not really." A shrug, "Kind of learned what we could once we escaped, and thanks to the internet we aren't total idiots."

Another shrug, "And then after that the FBI agent that took us in sent us to a regular school. It was okay, I guess."

Tobias scoffed. "It doesn't sound like my idea of okay. That must've been something to get through." It wasn't exactly pity- more a recognition of the situation he'd been through. Respectful.

"But you're in a school here? That's good. I've always thought about it- I would hope I could pass a GED test, by now. But..." Another shrug. "It never comes up. I like my work now just fine."

"Not here, well, not yet anyway. There's a school here though that I'm sort of looking into, Tauton or something like that. Apparently special cases is kind of their thing." He was still a little wary, but Candy had seemed fine, and the information packet was on the up-and-up.

"I'm still fine with learning what I need from the internet and the library. And Navi's fine with it too." Which was something he was indescribably thankful for. He shook his head then, brow creasing, "You said something a minute ago about having to turn into a bird every two hours?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Taunton? Yeah. I know a few people that graduated from there. They're good people." He could kind of sense the hesitance in Iggy's tone, and figured another positive review couldn't hurt.

He smiled at the mention of the fairy, before nodding at the question. "When the alien gave us the power to morph the first time, it was only supposed to be for the fights- two hours at a time, then back to human. Well, I got stuck in morph during a fight once, and couldn't change back for a few months. Another alien gave me the power to change again, in return for a favor I did for him. But he left me as a bird by default, because he felt that was what I wanted at the time."

The more good press the better, really, he nodded at the statement, "I'll have to check it out."

His brow creased at the explanation, nodding slowly, "Sometimes I've wished I could just go back and stay with the ferruginouses, but then I remember: gopher."
