Darius had been craving a chai all day. The girl in the room next to his had one when they'd ~~flirted~~, said good morning, and he'd spent the day wondering what it would have tasted like if he hadn't been such a loser and kissed her.

Finally it was too much to ignore, and he slipped out the back door, making sure no one saw him leave. He'd just run over to the coffee shop across the street, get a chai, and come back.

He was on his was back, taking his first sip when the explosion happened. He didn't even think to shield his face, and that was the only reason he saw what was happening. Someone was running in the wrong direction through the streets from behind the building, where there hadn't been any doors. Without even thinking, Darius dropped his drink and chased after the man, business shoes sliding on the pavement as he tore after the person he'd seen.

Maybe they knew something, maybe they didn't, but he wouldn't know until he caught them.

Or until they turned and shot at him. That was the last straw. Darius hated being shot at. He slowed, and pulled out the gun Cable had given him, taking careful aim. He caught the man once in the leg, and again in the arm, so at the very most the man could only limp and shoot with his off hand.

It was better than nothing

	Cable led the way out of the roof door, onto the white roof of the hotel. It had been an interesting few days and it was time to head back to the ship, before heading to the middle east for their next mission. As he walked forward, a niggling sense struck him, but he had no idea what, still, he instinctively started scanning the skies around their ship. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Domino felt his uncertainty, and even more she could see it in how he moved. She looked around at the other roofs, and her hand moved to her gun. What's going on? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"I don't know. There is something... off."

Just then, the ship wobbled, and an alarm went off on Cable's remote.

"Oh shit... the data room has been compromised..."

He had about ten seconds to act, and he grabbed her in a telekinetic bubble and lofted her, high and away, behind the solidity of the roof's stone elevator access.

Even as he did so, everything else faded from his mind and he concentrated, forming a bubble around the ship, solidifying it, and making it more and more layers thick, racing to make it as thick and as big as possible.

And then there was a sun in the sky over Pittsburgh, as the ship blew up with a roar of sound that blew out windows even as Cable went to one knee with a cry as he held the barriers, containing the explosion, and forcing the barrier to hold.

And it was suddenly over and the bubble lowered the ash that was left to the roof, and Cable, battered, hurting, and exhausted, sank to his knees.

Domino yelped as she was flown away, and was about to beat against the bubble when she saw the explosion.

She put her arms over her eyes, but she was still dazzled for a moment. When the bubble broke she used the elevator shaft as leverage and stood. "Nate?"

She couldn't hear as well as she ought to be able to, and her eyes were worrying her, but she picked her way to Cable, stumbling and faltering.

	"Was looking at the ship when it went up, so I can't see. Other than that I'm okay. A little shaken, and my hip hurts from my gun." His voice helped her find him, and she moved to his side, checking him carefully with her hands. "Let's go back inside.
