Just then, the ship wobbled, and an alarm went off on Cable's remote.
"Oh shit... the data room has been compromised..."
He had about ten seconds to act, and he grabbed her in a telekinetic bubble and lofted her, high and away, behind the solidity of the roof's stone elevator access.
Even as he did so, everything else faded from his mind and he concentrated, forming a bubble around the ship, solidifying it, and making it more and more layers thick, racing to make it as thick and as big as possible.
And then there was a sun in the sky over Pittsburgh, as the ship blew up with a roar of sound that blew out windows even as Cable went to one knee with a cry as he held the barriers, containing the explosion, and forcing the barrier to hold.
And it was suddenly over and the bubble lowered the ash that was left to the roof, and Cable, battered, hurting, and exhausted, sank to his knees.
