Entry tags:apocalyptic plot, belladonna boudreaux, carol danvers, janet van dyne, kate pryde, peter parker, steve rogers, tony stark, zelos wilder

Who: Captain America, Belladonna Boudreaux, Spider-Man, Kate Pryde, The Wasp, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Zelos Wilder
Where: Starts out in the Hearst Building, but we’re fighting Apocalypse, so we might end up halfway across the city.
What: Showing Apocalypse that his name is just a really big cliché. (Cap hopes. >.>)
When: Pretty much nowish.
Rating: Probably more than a little foul language and superhero violence.

((OOC: Posting order will be in the order that characters replied to Cap's original post, exception being if you want to combine multiple characters into one post, i.e. Peter/Zelos and Kate/Jan/Carol. So it should look like: Cap, Bella, Peter/Zelos, Kate/Jan/Carol, Tony.))

Cap had been waiting in the Hearst Building since the whole thing began, constantly checking the one computer that was still able to connect to the Internet for replies to his message. He figured that by now, most people that frequented these strange boards already saw it, so his team would be the ones that replied so far. Boudreaux, Parker, the woman that looked like an older version of Pryde, Tony, Jan, Danvers, and this Zelos Wilder person.

Truth told? That was a pretty damn good team. He’d been researching his team on the Internet to get some idea as to strategy. He knew Tony and Jan were powerful fliers, and apparently most versions of Danvers were also pretty powerful fliers. This was good, considering they were fighting a giant blue guy. Parker was actually one of the keys to Steve’s developing strategy, and if he was right about the other woman being Pryde, she’d be the only hope of his last resort, though he was kind of hoping he wouldn’t have to do it. Zelos he really hadn’t been able to find much on, though apparently he had “some spells” according to one website. Not too long ago, Cap would’ve called this bullshit, but with Thor actually being Thor, well…Cap was a lot more willing to open his mind after that. Plus, different universes had different rules.

So far he had a few basic plans. He’d researched their enemy, and could not find one piece of information on a viable weakness. He had however, found an interesting little fact. While this thing’s armor seemed to cover most of his body, it left the majority of his face and head open. He’d found an image of Apocalypse stepping out of his armor, and there was no armor on his face or most of the head. Some of the back of the head was covered, but not much. This meant that there was in fact a viable weakness: Headshots. It would take a lot of pounding to do damage, but if this thing was stupid enough to leave it’s face unarmored, Cap would damn well take advantage of that.

Parker was key to Plan A. Plan A consisted of Parker going about a block down and creating a strong web-line that blocked off the street, at about Apocalypse’s shin-level. The rest of the team would act as a distraction, keeping Apocalypse’s attention on them rather than on where he was going. He’d hit the web-line and go down hard, and then the team would beat on his unarmored head. While the thing was down, Parker would create another strong web-line, this one in essence tying Apocalypse’s shoelaces together. If there was still time before the monster tried to rise, Parker would web up his eyes.

His last resort popped into his head the minute he thought of Pryde. He’d seen her phasing powers firsthand in his own universe, and he was sort of banking on this version having the same powers. All sources told him she would, but he wasn’t entirely sure. As long as she did, his last resort would function as planned. If they weren’t capable of stopping this thing with the old-fashioned “hit ‘em ‘til they drop” approach, Cap would have Kate grab him, and the two of them would jump at Apocalypse’s head. At the last second, Pryde would phase them, and on their trip through Apocalypse’s head Cap would let go of his shield. No matter how powerful this thing was, he figured that most things were vulnerable to the destruction of the brain. If that wasn’t enough?

Then the world was screwed and he would dismiss his team. He wasn’t going leave the field of battle, but he wouldn’t have the deaths of these other good people on his hands. If they wanted to stay, so be it, but he would let them make that choice themselves. Maybe they could escape and fortify some place against this monster. Maybe they could survive. Not him, though. From the minute that the super soldier serum was injected into him, it sealed his fate. One way or the other, if Steve Rogers ever went down, he would go down fighting.

Now he was just waiting for his team to arrive.

"Don't worry, hunny, I have a strict ladies first policy in all other areas," said Zelos, flirting out of a habit far too ingrained to break. His attention was entirely focused on Apocalypse, despite what his libido thought about the subject. "Thunder Blade isn't working, eh? Good thing that's not the only thing up my well-filled sleeves. Eruption!"

The ground directly underneath Apocalypse began to crack and bubble before lava shot forth out of it, threatening damage to (and, indeed, only even touching) Apocalypse. It did nothing more than cause the big blue freak to look down at the curious sensation of heat, but that was more than had been happening with Thunder Blade. The spell faded and the ground healed itself, and, apparently, so did Apocalypse.

Cap couldn’t believe this. This thing wasn’t even reacting to their attacks! Even worse, he seemed to be recovering swiftly from any damage that was actually done. Maybe we can’t destroy him…but we have to at least slow this thing down! Gears turned in his head, and Cap began quickly reevaluating the situation. If they couldn’t do any real damage to Apocalypse himself, they would have to go after things that might distract him. While Cap really wanted to break this thing’s jaw and maybe spit in it’s eye, there was something that was perhaps a bit more vital to Apocalypse: The bio-armor. Cap knew Jan was doing her best, but it wouldn’t be fast enough to really do much. He had to make a move now. The question was, how?

The cables. They were two big, thick things that seemed to connect each of Apocalypse’s arms to his waist. Cap didn’t know what they did, but if he could cut one of them – and he thought he could, if he struck at the base of one using his shield – and shove an exposed power line in there…maybe it would do something. Maybe not. With any luck, it would be something important. He doubted it would do much to the suit proper, but perhaps some vital function of it… It was worth a shot.

Cap swung back around onto Apocalypse’s shoulder and took off running in a dead sprint. At the very last moment, he hurled his shield down and with a deft hop, went surfing straight down Apocalypse’s half-raised arm. A deft kick at the back edge of the shield sent it flipping up in the air as he neared the wrist, and he let himself drop, grabbing the shield on the way down. One arm wrapped around the thick wrist of the giant, while the hand with the shield plunged down and across with all Steve’s superhuman might, cutting the cable in one fell swoop.

He quickly wrapped his other arm around Apocalypse’s wrist and used his newly free hand to grab at a power line nearby. Apocalypse’s own hand did much of the tearing as it rose and collided with it, and one good yank from Steve finished the job. There were no one-liners now. It was all business and every second counted. Pulling hard on the power line, keeping the exposed wiring away from his own body, he brought it up and into the socket once occupied by the cable.

And THAT got a reaction. Not one of pain, but a sudden quick turn of the giant head and a definite look of anger. Not only did this mean that Cap had taken out something good, it also meant that Apocalypse was less focused on where he was going, and thus Parker’s part of the plan was probably going to succeed.

Of course, now Cap was left dangling on the giant’s arm, while said giant was pissed at him…

Luckily, the fall was not a fatal one, although Cap's legs would be sore for a few days after this. God, I never thought I'd miss the Hulk...

Belle watched and sighed. This was going very, very badly. She watch Zelos, and chewed her lip.

There! He was distracted! Doing her best to miss everyone, Belle started to fire at the ground just before the webline, melting the pavement in a very non-temporary way. Hitting it from so far up with that much energy was very hard to maintain, but she pushed herself, making herself go for as long as she could. But she was tiring out quickly.

Same plan?

"All right, ugly, I hope you're cruising for a... well, who'd be able to tell if we did bruise you?" Spidey slung a web at Apocalypse and pulled. Peter might have had the proportionate strength of a human-sized spider, but Apocalypse had the strength of a really big dude. He wasn't going down easily. Spider-Man pulled and pulled, stretching the elasticity of the web to its limit, but to no avail. He finally had to let go, because the pavement he was sticking his feet to was starting to let go. The webline snapped back uselessly against Apocalypse's shell, but it gave Peter an idea.

He swung past the Big Blue Behemoth and hit a building on each side of the road with a webline. Then he pulled each line as taut as it would go. Spider-Man took careful aim, and ignored his spider-sense, which was desperately telling him that this was a bad idea. "This is really going to hurt." He lifted his feet off the ground, slingshotting him shoulder-first into Apocalypse's backside. The monster stumbled, and Belle's melted pavement made it harder for him to maintain his balance. Come on... come on! Fall!

In one of the most comical injuries on a supervillain in history, Apocalypse tripped.
