Entry tags:apocalyptic plot, belladonna boudreaux, carol danvers, janet van dyne, kate pryde, peter parker, steve rogers, tony stark, zelos wilder

Who: Captain America, Belladonna Boudreaux, Spider-Man, Kate Pryde, The Wasp, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Zelos Wilder
Where: Starts out in the Hearst Building, but we’re fighting Apocalypse, so we might end up halfway across the city.
What: Showing Apocalypse that his name is just a really big cliché. (Cap hopes. >.>)
When: Pretty much nowish.
Rating: Probably more than a little foul language and superhero violence.

((OOC: Posting order will be in the order that characters replied to Cap's original post, exception being if you want to combine multiple characters into one post, i.e. Peter/Zelos and Kate/Jan/Carol. So it should look like: Cap, Bella, Peter/Zelos, Kate/Jan/Carol, Tony.))

Cap had been waiting in the Hearst Building since the whole thing began, constantly checking the one computer that was still able to connect to the Internet for replies to his message. He figured that by now, most people that frequented these strange boards already saw it, so his team would be the ones that replied so far. Boudreaux, Parker, the woman that looked like an older version of Pryde, Tony, Jan, Danvers, and this Zelos Wilder person.

Truth told? That was a pretty damn good team. He’d been researching his team on the Internet to get some idea as to strategy. He knew Tony and Jan were powerful fliers, and apparently most versions of Danvers were also pretty powerful fliers. This was good, considering they were fighting a giant blue guy. Parker was actually one of the keys to Steve’s developing strategy, and if he was right about the other woman being Pryde, she’d be the only hope of his last resort, though he was kind of hoping he wouldn’t have to do it. Zelos he really hadn’t been able to find much on, though apparently he had “some spells” according to one website. Not too long ago, Cap would’ve called this bullshit, but with Thor actually being Thor, well…Cap was a lot more willing to open his mind after that. Plus, different universes had different rules.

So far he had a few basic plans. He’d researched their enemy, and could not find one piece of information on a viable weakness. He had however, found an interesting little fact. While this thing’s armor seemed to cover most of his body, it left the majority of his face and head open. He’d found an image of Apocalypse stepping out of his armor, and there was no armor on his face or most of the head. Some of the back of the head was covered, but not much. This meant that there was in fact a viable weakness: Headshots. It would take a lot of pounding to do damage, but if this thing was stupid enough to leave it’s face unarmored, Cap would damn well take advantage of that.

Parker was key to Plan A. Plan A consisted of Parker going about a block down and creating a strong web-line that blocked off the street, at about Apocalypse’s shin-level. The rest of the team would act as a distraction, keeping Apocalypse’s attention on them rather than on where he was going. He’d hit the web-line and go down hard, and then the team would beat on his unarmored head. While the thing was down, Parker would create another strong web-line, this one in essence tying Apocalypse’s shoelaces together. If there was still time before the monster tried to rise, Parker would web up his eyes.

His last resort popped into his head the minute he thought of Pryde. He’d seen her phasing powers firsthand in his own universe, and he was sort of banking on this version having the same powers. All sources told him she would, but he wasn’t entirely sure. As long as she did, his last resort would function as planned. If they weren’t capable of stopping this thing with the old-fashioned “hit ‘em ‘til they drop” approach, Cap would have Kate grab him, and the two of them would jump at Apocalypse’s head. At the last second, Pryde would phase them, and on their trip through Apocalypse’s head Cap would let go of his shield. No matter how powerful this thing was, he figured that most things were vulnerable to the destruction of the brain. If that wasn’t enough?

Then the world was screwed and he would dismiss his team. He wasn’t going leave the field of battle, but he wouldn’t have the deaths of these other good people on his hands. If they wanted to stay, so be it, but he would let them make that choice themselves. Maybe they could escape and fortify some place against this monster. Maybe they could survive. Not him, though. From the minute that the super soldier serum was injected into him, it sealed his fate. One way or the other, if Steve Rogers ever went down, he would go down fighting.

Now he was just waiting for his team to arrive.

Belle found the place easily, being used to navigating cities. The panic had made the going slow, but that wasn't a terrible hardship. You just had to know how to travel.

Nonetheless, it took her a while to get there, and she looked rather like she'd been surviving of coffee, cigarettes, and adrenaline.

"Guessin' you're Captain America, since you're not runnin' around and flailing."

"I'd be running around and flailing if I had any sense," said Spider-Man, descending on a web-line. Interrupting conversations with super powers was a hobby of his. "Hi, how you doin'." To Captain America, Spidey said, "Do we have a plan here, or are we just going to wing it? Wait, hold that thought." He webbed one of the escaped lunatics from Bellevue and tossed him casually against a wall.

"Okay, now let's continue this casual conversation we're having in the middle of chaos. I really hope this works, I have some freaking out to do. I'm all kinds of in favor of waiting until the Fantastic Four and the other Ultimates show up, but since there won't be a city left, I can see your point. Do I sound nervous? I feel like I'm talking too much."

Kate was terrified, but she wasn't about to stand back and let Apocalypse win. She'd been through that hell once. She wasn't about to repeat that. She showed up at the Hearst building, dressed in her black uniform and smiled slightly at Peter's nerves. "Calm down, Spidey," she said, then looked to Captain America. "Kate Pryde," she said by way of greeting.

When Jan arrived, she immediately moved to Steve. "Do we have a plan?" she asked. She was worried, but she had faith in herself and in Steve. And it looked like they had some pretty good allies. They could do this. They could win. They had to.

Carol stood off to the side, waiting. She wasn't much for talking to anyone right now. She just wanted to get this over with and destroy Apocalypse. It was one hell of an introduction to this new reality. But it didn't surprise her. She was used to having to save the day.

Tony wasn't terrified of the chaos going on around him. He'd seen much worse over the years. He'd taken time to research their foe, and he'd seen the same weakness that Captain America had noticed, which lead him into boosting a few things in his armor. He wasn't what all Apocalypse would be capable of in this world, but the least they could do was prepare for anything plausible.

Iron Man flew to their rendezvous point at the Hearst Building, expecting a much bigger team than what he saw as he entered. He was honestly disappointed in what he saw, though Spider-man was a welcome addition. "What do we know?" he asked as he took off his faceplate.

"Well, of everyone present, the lovely Miss Danvers has the largest bust by far." Zelos stopped twirling his sword in the corner and joined the group proper. "But aside from that, not a lot. Big Blue's waiting for the rest of the kids to join us before he lays out his plan, so after that we get to save the world."

He was skinny, pretty, and wearing pink, and the sword he tossed around so casually probably offered as much of a threat to Apocalypse as throwing toothpicks at him. "You know, if I'd have known I was going to be fighting a giant monster with teleporty powers, I would have paid attention when they tried to teach me healing spells. Just throwing it out there. Try not to get killed."

Cap surveyed his troops. He was already thinking of them that way, and now that they were all here, his mind easily switched over into complete battlefield mode. And right now, they needed some rallying. “Thank you all for coming.” He let his gaze rest on each of them for a few seconds. “I know there aren’t many people here. Some of you are probably thinking that there aren’t enough of us here to really make a difference.” He gestured outside, where the silhouette of Apocalypse could already be seen. “Understandable. That thing is huge and we only have eight people standing between it and New York City, maybe even the world.” He looked out at the sky, pausing briefly in his speech. “But each of us brings something unique to the table. Unique powers, unique outlooks, and most importantly unique heart. And that’s what’s going to win the day here, folks. We are eight people who have been through more than most ever should. Maybe we only have eight bodies, but we each bring armies of experience.” And then he turned, and he was grinning like the devil himself. “Now here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to go out there and we’re going to save the world. Understand?”

Without waiting for assent, he pointed out one of the front windows. His voice was steel now, hard and cold with an aura of “don’t fuck with me” that might even have given the blue giant pause, if he could have heard it. “Spider-Man. I want you down exactly one block, making a thick web-line across the street, about that giant’s shin level. Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, you both take to the air and aim at this thing’s face. It’s unarmored, so it’s probably the most vulnerable spot on that thing. Iron Man, I want you to drop me right on this thing’s forehead. I’m going to try and peel back as much of its upper armor as I can. Wasp, this thing wears bio-armor, I want you shrunk down and the minute you see a way in, get in there and start screwing with this thing’s connections to its suit. Kate, you go with Spider-Man, I want you taking care of any crazies that come at him so he’s not distracted from the tripline. Boudreaux, I want you on the rooftops firing some of your pulse blasts at it, primarily at the face but if you see any malfunctioning armor parts, give it a second for Wasp to get clear and then fire at them."

Now he looked at Zelos, hands crossed and his shield leaning against his hip. "Wilder. You can't do healing magic, that's fine. Just give us any offensive magic you've got. Blast it with your most powerful spells, as quickly as you can. Ultimately, Spider-Man and Kate are the two keys to my plan. Once this behemoth is down, we all converge on it's head and we take it out." He glanced at each member of his team, hefted his shield. "We don't have a lot of time. Anyone has any questions, you speak up now."

"Oui." Belle said, nodding shortly. "Can do."

She eyed the buildings, looking for the best possible vantage point. "I better get goin', the halls are gonna be packed with frenzied people."

She started off at a run, wishing her powers were more useful in this kind of a battle. She wasn't sure what her plasma blasts would do to this guy, but she hoped that it would at least do something.

She was right about the halls being packed, but managed to squeeze by, using her telepathy to calm people and get to move. It was still as slow as she'd thought it would be. The elevators were broken, as elevators tend to be when they're needed. She grinned and pried the door to one open, and slipped in. It took seconds to climb to the roof, and even less time to find her best options for climbing the walls.

"Facile." She noted to herself, as she started up.

"You got it, Cap." As soon as he'd gotten his orders, Spidey swung away, Kate in tow. It was a rude thing to do to just grab her like he did with the Kitty from his universe, but there was a time and a place for politeness and this wasn't it. On the way, though, he defaulted to Spider-Man. "So I don't know how well you knew me back in your universe. I used to date the you from mine, so I guess I have an advantage. Oh, look we're here, no more awkward."

He set Kate down and started the process of creating a web-line strong enough to take down a giant who could topple a building. He hoped he had enough web-fluid. He probably did. Assuming there was such a thing as "enough to take down Apocalypse."

Kate was startled as Spider-Man grabbed her and swung away but she didn't show it, just holding on. "We never met," she said simply, "and we never dated. You were dead...and I was married. Now, enough awkwardness." She forced herself to relax and remain professional. She didn't like thinking about her past. "Let's get to work." She turned herself intangible as soon as he set her down and kept an eye out for any crazies.

Janet took to the air and shrunk herself, using her wings to fly closer to Apocalypse, looking for a way in. She was careful not to get too close until she was sure she wouldn't be noticed by the giant mutant. This was a good plan. Solid. She hadn't expected anything less.

Carol gave Zelos a less than impressed look, but said nothing, instead looking at Tony. Seemed they'd be working together. "Ready?" she asked, before taking off. She kept one eye on him, wanting to be careful not to hit him at all.

Captain America's no nonsense attitude always had a way of putting things into perspective, and so Tony nodded as he took in his list of objectives. Good thing he'd outfitted a few more things on the suit. He'd just about made a comment about Carol's rack given Zelos' way of drawing attention to it, but he didn't need the shit kicked out of him before Apocalypse's turn.

Tony gave her an equally scrutinizing glance as he put his faceplate back on, his voice now digitized by it. As ever. Rodgers, you ready? And he grabbed the other man under his arms and lifted him as he soared out of the window, holding on to him. Zooming in, he got close enough to drop Cap onto Apocalypse's head, then flew off so he could assess the situation and plan his shots.

"I never said I couldn't do any. I just meant that--wait, none of you can do any magic? I'm the fireball-throwing magic powerhouse on this team? Dude! You heard the man in blue, my darlin' hunnies, we've got us a world to save!" Not having been given any specific instructions on where to stand, he followed the French chick (because when in doubt, boobies), jumping as high as he could to reach the top of the building, but only just.

"All right, magicless wonders, don't worry about the giant blade composed entirely of lightning that's about to fall, it'll only hurt our big ugly friend." With a deep breath, Zelos concentrated on the mana flowing through him. "Hope you're ready for... Thunder Blade!" In truth he'd have preferred to have Genis around throwing spells, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

Cap savored the moments of freefall before hitting Apocalypse’s face. He immediately struck out with his shield in a slashing blow, meant more to distract the behemoth than harm him. Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Ms. Marvel were going to be the major damage dealers for at least the first portion of this fight. His primary goal was to open up more weak spots for those damage dealers to hit.

He took to that goal like a swimmer to water, darting around as swiftly as he was able along Apocalypse’s shoulder and flinging himself towards the back of Apocalypse’s head. He had no doubt that ripping the two armor prongs on the back of his head off would hurt the beast, and that’s what he set about doing. Cap dug his hand under one prong, securing a firm handhold, and swung out fully behind the giant, feet dangling for a moment before he planted them squarely on the back of the behemoth’s neck. “Too bad they don’t make any giant asprin, big guy,” Cap growled, “because you’re about to need it!” Slinging his shield over his back, he got a grip on the second armor prong on Apocalypse’s head and, with all his might, began pulling them towards him.

The lightning bolt called down from the sky momentarily awed him. For the briefest of moments, he thought Thor had joined the battle, and then he realized it was Wilder. Suddenly I’m rethinking who the real powerhouse is here. His goal was to get Jan a way into this thing’s armor, and once that was done…well, he hadn’t exactly shared this stunt with the group. It was a little crazy. But Cap liked crazy. In battle, crazy was just another way of saying “something the enemy won’t predict”.

The prongs were thin, and with Cap pulling at them with all of his might, it didn’t take long. Strange energy crackled from the cut connections, but Apocalypse hadn’t flinched. He may have overestimated the amount of pain this sort of thing would cause, but his primary goal was accomplished: Jan had a way in. “Wasp, up here!” He would keep the prongs pulled back for as long as he could. He just had to hope Jan could get up here in time.

Belle rushed onto the roof, nodding at the mage who'd beaten her there. "Cheater." She said with a smirk, bright yellow energy already radiating from her hands.

She took careful aim, and shot both hands at the monster, doing her best to amp the power up as high as possible.

From what she could see, he didn't seem to be reacting.

More anchor lines. Peter wasn't exactly Baxter Building material, but he was one smart cookie. He knew that no matter how strong his webbing was it would only be as powerful as whatever it was connected to. So he needed more. "Dead, eh?" he said to Future Kitty. "Let's just hope that history doesn't repeat itself here. Tell me if your husband shows up, won't you? I'll take it as an omen. Hey, it's not a big guy named Kong, is it? 'Cause there's this guy who likes you at my school..."

Spidey turned his head when he heard Cap yelling at Apocalypse, then he returned to his work. "Damn, I thought he was going to bust out one of his patented Captain America one-liners. 'Do you think this letter on my head stands for FRANCE?!' It's funny stuff." At this point the line could withstand a semi-truck going at eighty miles an hour. He just had to hope it was enough. "IT'S AS STRONG AS IT'S GONNA GET, CAP!"

"I'll be sure to let you know," Kate said, "and no. His name was Piotr Rasputin." She missed him sometimes, but he'd killed her so she was sort of over that. "This is the guy who killed you. So I'd be careful, okay?" She didn't want anything to happen to anyone.

Jan heard Steve call for her and flew up as quickly as she could, moving to the opening he'd created for her. "Thanks," she said, flying in and looking around. Time to get to work. This was going to be fun. She looked for ways to mess with the armor, wanting to get done and get out quickly.

Carol hovered midair, sending energy blasts at Apocalypse's face, careful of Captain America. It wouldn't do any good to injure one of her allies. She'd missed this sort of rush. She just hoped that they would win.

Tony wasn't expecting a giant blade of energy to strike from Zelos, and he realized he was underestimating his allies in this. He glanced at Parker as he reinforced his webbing just as he rushed towards Apocalypse, blasting the strongest particle beams he could emit directly at Apocalypse's head and chest. He had to be careful and not hit Captain America, so he changed up areas and focused on his mouth and eyes, staying away from the back as he zipped around. "This bastard's not even flinching," he thought as he darted, looking for other weak spots.

"Don't worry, hunny, I have a strict ladies first policy in all other areas," said Zelos, flirting out of a habit far too ingrained to break. His attention was entirely focused on Apocalypse, despite what his libido thought about the subject. "Thunder Blade isn't working, eh? Good thing that's not the only thing up my well-filled sleeves. Eruption!"

The ground directly underneath Apocalypse began to crack and bubble before lava shot forth out of it, threatening damage to (and, indeed, only even touching) Apocalypse. It did nothing more than cause the big blue freak to look down at the curious sensation of heat, but that was more than had been happening with Thunder Blade. The spell faded and the ground healed itself, and, apparently, so did Apocalypse.

Cap couldn’t believe this. This thing wasn’t even reacting to their attacks! Even worse, he seemed to be recovering swiftly from any damage that was actually done. Maybe we can’t destroy him…but we have to at least slow this thing down! Gears turned in his head, and Cap began quickly reevaluating the situation. If they couldn’t do any real damage to Apocalypse himself, they would have to go after things that might distract him. While Cap really wanted to break this thing’s jaw and maybe spit in it’s eye, there was something that was perhaps a bit more vital to Apocalypse: The bio-armor. Cap knew Jan was doing her best, but it wouldn’t be fast enough to really do much. He had to make a move now. The question was, how?

The cables. They were two big, thick things that seemed to connect each of Apocalypse’s arms to his waist. Cap didn’t know what they did, but if he could cut one of them – and he thought he could, if he struck at the base of one using his shield – and shove an exposed power line in there…maybe it would do something. Maybe not. With any luck, it would be something important. He doubted it would do much to the suit proper, but perhaps some vital function of it… It was worth a shot.

Cap swung back around onto Apocalypse’s shoulder and took off running in a dead sprint. At the very last moment, he hurled his shield down and with a deft hop, went surfing straight down Apocalypse’s half-raised arm. A deft kick at the back edge of the shield sent it flipping up in the air as he neared the wrist, and he let himself drop, grabbing the shield on the way down. One arm wrapped around the thick wrist of the giant, while the hand with the shield plunged down and across with all Steve’s superhuman might, cutting the cable in one fell swoop.

He quickly wrapped his other arm around Apocalypse’s wrist and used his newly free hand to grab at a power line nearby. Apocalypse’s own hand did much of the tearing as it rose and collided with it, and one good yank from Steve finished the job. There were no one-liners now. It was all business and every second counted. Pulling hard on the power line, keeping the exposed wiring away from his own body, he brought it up and into the socket once occupied by the cable.

And THAT got a reaction. Not one of pain, but a sudden quick turn of the giant head and a definite look of anger. Not only did this mean that Cap had taken out something good, it also meant that Apocalypse was less focused on where he was going, and thus Parker’s part of the plan was probably going to succeed.

Of course, now Cap was left dangling on the giant’s arm, while said giant was pissed at him…

Luckily, the fall was not a fatal one, although Cap's legs would be sore for a few days after this. God, I never thought I'd miss the Hulk...

Belle watched and sighed. This was going very, very badly. She watch Zelos, and chewed her lip.

There! He was distracted! Doing her best to miss everyone, Belle started to fire at the ground just before the webline, melting the pavement in a very non-temporary way. Hitting it from so far up with that much energy was very hard to maintain, but she pushed herself, making herself go for as long as she could. But she was tiring out quickly.

Same plan?

"All right, ugly, I hope you're cruising for a... well, who'd be able to tell if we did bruise you?" Spidey slung a web at Apocalypse and pulled. Peter might have had the proportionate strength of a human-sized spider, but Apocalypse had the strength of a really big dude. He wasn't going down easily. Spider-Man pulled and pulled, stretching the elasticity of the web to its limit, but to no avail. He finally had to let go, because the pavement he was sticking his feet to was starting to let go. The webline snapped back uselessly against Apocalypse's shell, but it gave Peter an idea.

He swung past the Big Blue Behemoth and hit a building on each side of the road with a webline. Then he pulled each line as taut as it would go. Spider-Man took careful aim, and ignored his spider-sense, which was desperately telling him that this was a bad idea. "This is really going to hurt." He lifted his feet off the ground, slingshotting him shoulder-first into Apocalypse's backside. The monster stumbled, and Belle's melted pavement made it harder for him to maintain his balance. Come on... come on! Fall!

In one of the most comical injuries on a supervillain in history, Apocalypse tripped.
