Who: Zatanna, Stephen and Arabella
What: OMG we have a daughter??
When: The other day
Where: Their place

Arabella was trapped all inside this stupid thing, some kind of metaphysical booby trap for unwanted visitors. And her parents didn't recognize her and she'd gone back in time. Fantastic. She waved her hand, and the cage vanished, since she could have done that all along. She just didn't want to get in trouble.

Then she waited for her parents to get home and try and figure this whole thing out. This was going to be... fun at the very least.

Stephen was probably the calmest of the pair about this whole situation. Cosmic things like this happened all of the time here, a couple's yet unborn child appearing out of thin air. He was not disturbed by this, just wary. There was no way she could have broken into the Sanctum unless she was at least of his blood or Zatanna's. That was how he'd set the wards to the place.

It didn't take long for them to get home, and since Arabella had said that he needed to tell Zatanna that he loved her, he'd been thinking about that conversation ever since.

Zatanna though was kind of freaking out. "A kid? Like seriously? I'm too young and hot to be having kids by ruining this figure.." well she was half teasing about that. She just shook her head. This was just really weird. But if he was calm, then she was going to not freak out. Yeah right.

Arabella meanwhile looked relieved to see her parents. "About time.." she said putting her hands on her hips and giving them both a look.

Zee looked at her and then looked at Stephen "Okay, I can kinda buy the whole.. kid thing.. she .. looks like you and has a smart mouth like me.."

"Because that's what I need. Another woman around here that smarts off at me," he joked. "Having a child doesn't mean it will ruin your figure, dear. Nothing can ruin that," he said, ensuring her of her eternal beauty. "You'll be putting on performances for years to come."

Stephen finally looked at Arabella, studying her intently and he may have been doing some sort of spell secretly to ascertain her truthful identity, but it was her eyes, those curious eyes and impish smile like her mother's that really solidified it to him.

"She is our daughter for certain," he announced as if it were some big mystery revealed.

Both Arabella and Zee gave him a Look. "Hey hey I didn't ask for this," Arabella muttered. Zee was still kind of just nodding and looking back and forth between the two of them. "Thanks.. I think.. but you haven't ever had a kid.." she pointed out. "You don't have to worry about your figure, youre going to live forever.."

Well wasn't this awkward. Arabella sighed a little, "Look so.. I'm 17. Uh.. I'm born in about two years? You've got a while. I dunno why it brought me here but this place is whack.. I won't tell you much else. Gotta keep you on your toes.."

Zatanna hm'd a bit, "Guess that means making a.. room for you.. do you want to stay here? We're.. in London.. with the new hospital..or rather your dad is.. I'm just hanging around and doing nothing as usual."

"We have two years before you're ever conceived," he repeated with a nod. "Dare I ask if we are married or if you were a little surprise." Which, after two years, he'd have hoped he'd have told her his feelings and married her by then or else he was the dumbest man on the planet.

"You're not doing 'nothing', Zatanna. You're keeping me company when I'm not overseeing things at the hospital. You still teleport to your shows." Honestly, was it that bad being in London with him as he oversaw this project? London was a nice place compared to some others.

Arabella nodded and rocked on her heels, "Yeah.. though who said I'm the oldest?" she asked, which promptly made Zatanna's eyes widen quite a bit and possibly give her a coronary. She laughed some, "Relax.. sorry, I was kidding.." her poor mom. Though she couldn't help it, it was funny.

She glanced over at her Dad. "Uh.. are you sure you want to know the answer? That puts pressure on you to ask her or not ask her." Because again it looked like Zee might freak out. Married?

Zatanna gave a little nervous laugh, "I know I'm not doing nothing. I'm kidding.. just.. married?" she looked over at Stephen. "You want to? Because.. I know you're old and all but just because we have a kid doesn't necessarily mean we have to get married. I know you're old fashioned but..."

Even Stephen found it funny that Arabella was joking. The look on Zatanna's face was absolutely priceless. "Best to stop jesting or your mother is going to have a heart attack in front of us both, and I'd hate to have to revive her." Which he was kidding, too, but still.

"You can tell me or not," he said with a shrug. "I don't think it will put any more pressure on me than finding out that we do have a child eventually. Or children. You haven't mentioned if there are more or not."

Then he glanced over to Zatanna, his arms crossed over his chest as he thought about how to answer her question. "Perhaps someday. You seem...agitated at the suggestion of impending nuptials."

Arabella gave a sheepish look, "Sorry.. no more jokes.." though it was kind of funny. And she could tell her dad was amused too. She thought about it for a moment and really it seemed like he wanted to know the answer so slowly she nodded her head but she was staring at her mother. "Yes to both.. married and.. brothers and sisters."

Oh lord. Zee paled slightly, "Agitated? Oh come on Stephen.. this is.. how else do you want me to react? Do I look like the kind of girl that would ever.. I put on a magic show in fishnets and a really open shirt in Vegas for god's sake. I just.. I don't even know what we're doing, Stephen.."

It was weird to be having this conversation with her daughter standing there but that was freaking her out bad enough.

"You have siblings?" he asked, then his eyes cut to Zee again. He just knew she was about to pass out on him for this. She probably blamed him for her having so many children. "I thought you would be thrilled, Zee. I'm sure they're all beautiful children just like their mother." Though Stephen seemed more frustrated with the fact she seemed like she didn't want anything of this nature with him. "I don't understand. What we're doing?"

Arabella kind of nodded, trying to look as innocent as humanly possible. "Yeah I do.. I'm oldest though. Is Sophie here? Sophie Stark? Wait, she's a kid too I guess if she's even born yet at all.." she grumbled. this whole thing kind of sucked.

Zee just sighed, "It's not that I didn't want any.. or even...any of that. It's just a lot of pressure. It's like here you must do this or the consequence is that she dies or fades out of existence. That's a whole lot of pressure.." she rubbed her face a little. "Most people who have kids love each other, Stephen.. that's all.."

"It's still two years from now. Well, a year and several months," he corrected himself. "Yes, she is here. She's around your age, though her brother has been born out of order, so there is a question of correct timeline with their children." Really, it wasn't very complicated, but the way the vortex screwed with things, even Stephen got confused at times.

"But I do love you," he said without really thinking about the fact he'd just admitted that. Then he realized he said it, his eyes going wide. "I mean...um.." then he just sighed.

The younger girl looked a bit relieved at the fact that Sophie was around. At least she wouldn't be bored. "I dunno this place is weird and it kind of just.. makes it up as it goes along I think... uh.." she looked a little confused and obviously she didn't need to be here for this. "I'm gonna go uh.. find a room and... stuff.."

Zatanna was just staring at him a bit, "you... what?"

Arabella was up the stairs faster then you can say dy-no-mite!

This was about to suck, and Stephen knew full well Zee's head was about to explode. A lot of things just got dumped on her and now this. This was not how he'd planned to tell her he loved her. Well, he didn't exactly know how he'd planned to tell her, but this wasn't it.

Then Arabella disappeared before he could stop her, leaving the two of them alone to talk about this. Oh this was about to be amusing.

"I...love you," he said sheepishly.

Continuing to just stare at him like he had three heads, she got up to her feet and began to pace. She didn't say anything at all, she just paced back and forth down the hall, passing by him several times. He was going to try and kill her before this was over with. But she just didn't know what to say, or what to do, so she was pacing.

Her eyebrows knitted together as she walked. He was going to have to stop her and make her say something if he wanted any kind of real response.

Great, she was freaking out and not saying a word otherwise to him, and Stephen really wasn't good at handling women or emotions or anything like that in general. After a minute or so, he couldn't take the constant pacing anymore, and he walked over to her, grabbed her by the shoulders and held her in place. "Say something...anything...I don't care but the silence has to stop."

She knew eventually he was going to make her stop, and though she wasn't happy about it, she didn't fight him. She was starting to annoy herself really. "I love you.. I do, this is just.. I don't know.. " she admitted, looking up at him a little pitifully. It wasn't like she knew how to deal with this anymore then he did.

"Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?" he said, smiling softly at her. His hands came up to cup her face, thumbs softly stroking her cheeks. "We're going to be fine. You're alright. It's just the same thing that happened to Tony Stark. She couldn't have better parents." He really didn't look worried at all. Stephen was probably at the calmest she'd ever seen him.

Giving Stephen a Look, Zee shrugged her shoulders a bit. "No it's not that bad I just.. we're not going to be fine. You're ancient and way too calm and I'm not ready to be someone's mom! I can't even take care of myself! How are you so calm about all of this.." she was kind of all but shaking him really.

"I'm calm because you're not. There has to be a balance because it would not do well for both of us to be upset and frustrated." He blinked at her outburst and stared at her incredulously, "I'm not ancient. I'm only eighty years old," he said, looking a little huffy. "Then I'll take care of you. Two years can really change a person. You might not be ready now, but who knows how you will be in the future? She's practically an adult and can take care of herself right now. She's not a baby. Just breathe and calm down."

Well he had a point but that didn't mean she liked the point he was trying to make really. "Sorry, you're not ancient." except he totally was. He had lots of time to think about things like settling down and having kids. "You've already been taking care of me. I should be taking care of myself. Yes, she's an adult, that's even worse then being a baby! I am not calming down, sorry.. this is messed up and no one asked my permission for all of this.. stuff. I know it's not her fault but jesus."

Stephen let go of her, his hands just falling away in an automatic response to all of this. He suddenly felt less than calm, like a wave of emotion hit him at once. It was a bad mixture, especially for someone like him. "Then take care of yourself. If you feel like I shouldn't, which you are more than capable of doing since you were doing so before I got here, then do it. No one asked my permission either about our daughter, but obviously someone had the choice of saying no when I eventually asked you to marry me. You made a choice. Maybe not here and now, but you made it." His voice was only slightly elevated to the normal tone he spoke, and only someone who knew him well knew exactly how he felt right now. Stephen Strange upset was not a good thing ever.

"I tell you that I love you, something I've been struggling to say for a while now, and this is the response I get? Maybe it was a mistake and I really should have kept it to myself." Then he just shook his head and began to walk away from her, no real destination in mind, just not in this room with her.

Oh no, that was bad. Very bad. Her face fell a little, more and more through everything he had to say. She wanted to say that didn't feel like she had a choice, like she had to say yes because if she didn't, then they wouldn't have Arabella and how could you tell someone oh sorry whoops I don't want you to exist, especially when it was your daughter. That her in the future, her decision was tainted by everything that happened now. And now poor Arabella had to deal with them fighting, she was sure that she could hear it.

"I'm sorry.. I..." she frowned, "Please don't go.. I just. You're such a good guy.. a really good, nice.. strong.. everything that someone should want.. and I do.. I love you but I'm... I've erased people's memories.. people I care about. I'd do it to you.. I don't want to, but I would. I can't.. do that.. to you, or her. You deserve so much better."

Stephen froze in place, and she could see his head cock to one side as if something she'd said had struck a chord somewhere. "You would erase my memory? For what? So I wouldn't love you? So I could forget about you?" He hadn't even turned around to look at her yet, but she could probably see tension clear in his arms and shoulders. "If you loved me, you wouldn't even entertain that thought." Now her words were just making him bitter, which was about to be very, very bad.

Then he spun around on his heels and stared right at her, "Then what the hell for! You are not the only one who's done something bad to someone they cared about. I killed my sister trying to save her. I hurt you to save you from whatever evil I thought had you." He could have just read her mind but he wanted her to tell him herself.

Zatanna jumped slightly when he yelled at her. She winced and stepped back some. God he was scary when he was angry. "There.. was a man.. a very bad man.. and he.. he raped... it doesn't matter who he raped.. and half of the league thought.. he should be mind wiped, so he wouldn't do it again. The other half didn't.. it was a tie.. but then.. Bart.. he voted for it. So.. I did it, I .. changed him. But Batman... he came in to stop me, and I just.. I did it to him too.. erased the past .. few minutes so he wouldn't remember.."

She turned away from him as she talked wrapping her arms around herself. "It wasn't the only time.. I did it to Catwoman too, but I.. I just .. I don't know." she just wanted to make things better.

Stephen realized he'd scared her then, and that kind of thing was why he didn't let his temper get the better of him once he'd come to this place. He knew precisely what he was capable of, and he didn't want to lose control and accidentally expel some kind of magic at her. "Were you among the victims?" he asked, his face relaxing more into his usual demeanor.

"Erasing memories....that kind of thing...it can help and it can harm. It's a delicate thing. I erased the memories of Pepper Potts from Tony Stark's memory. Well, not all of them. Of her when she'd arrived. His intense love for her, because it was destroying his marriage and the love he had for someone else. I hate I had to do that, but it was what he wanted. Now he's happy, blissfully ignorant of the fact she's here, but happy. Tony didn't want it but he saw it as his only choice because he didn't want to lose his wife. Being in love is a blessing and a curse, I suppose." Stephen actually felt sorry for Tony in that respect, and he knew Pepper missed him, even if she had her own Tony, that one was still the one she'd known.

She tensed visibly when he asked her that, and she shook her head "I don't want to talk about that, Stephen. It doesn't matter. It's in the past.. I've moved on.." which all but confirmed it though she had a hard time saying for certain. Her arms relaxed slightly but she folded them across her chest and looked back at him finally.

"It's not okay, Stephen. It's not.. I mean maybe.. it is because Tony asked for it. But we can't play god, we can't decide who should.. what people should remember.. that's just as bad as him raping.. someone.. what I did.. especially what I did to Bruce, it's unforgivable.." though he had forgiven her, mostly. "Tony and .. Pepper are different.. he can make his own decisions.. not this."

She'd confirmed what he'd suspected the second she'd mentioned it, and he hated that it'd even happened. If it had happened today, he probably would have done horrible things to the man. "You're telling a man to not play god, when I am essentially one give or take a few things." Which was a sad thing for Stephen because as much as he didn't regret being who he was, there were times when he'd like to grow old with a family.

"Then what? What would you have me do? Pretend we don't have a daughter, that this is our eventual future?"

Slowly she shook her head and walked over to him, "No.. I'm not asking you to pretend or even.. I'm not asking you to do anything. I've handled things badly, I know that.. and I'm sorry and I'll do.. whatever I can to make it up to you so you don't think I don't love you.. I do love you. I'm just scared and you're not acting scared at all.."

She rubbed a hand over her face, "I can go back if you want time to yourself or.. I mean if you need to go back to London I'll stay here with Arabella.."

"Because I'm not afraid of my future...our future. There is no reason to be. She's seventeen with other siblings. I think we'll turn out to handle things very well." Tilting his head, he looked down at the ground a moment, licked his lips, then looked back at her. "I need to go back to London, but I want you there with me." Slowly, he reached up to touch his hand to her cheek. "She's here...so we're just going to have to get used to her." Then he brought his arms around her and hugged her tightly. He really did love her as much as he could ever love someone.

She really wished she had his confidence that things would turn out all right. "You didn't even ask her if there's really big.. bad stuff.. though I guess.. she seems.. normal. I mean as normal as she can be." Because any kid of theirs was totally far from normal. When he pulled her into the hug, she wrapped her arms around him tightly and pressed her face against his neck. "Yeah.. I know.. should we bring her with us to London? It's not like she doesn't know how to get anywhere she wants like we do.."

"We'll ask her if she wants to accompany us to London. If not, she can stay in the Sanctum and watch over the place until we return. I'm sure she'll just teleport between them just because she'll get restless." He turned his head and pressed a kiss to her forehead, before nuzzling the spot, his nose burying in the scent of her hair and skin. "I do love you. This just wasn't how I mean to ever tell you."

"You're all right with her staying here by herself? She could have boys over you know.." she gave him a Look. "IF she's anything like me.. she will have boys over. Lots and lots of boys.." she was kind of teasing but mostly not. She hugged him again tightly and nodded into his neck. "I know.. I love you too.. I'm sorry I put you on the spot. It's okay.. I'm used to this sort of weird thing between us."

Stephen was sure if she was their daughter that the girl knew better than to bring anyone into the Sanctum Sanctorium without his permission. "I...it's alright. "Mhmm, couldn't resist the greasy burritos that you promised, and if I don't watch it, I'll get out of shape from eating them." Which was a lie, since Stephen had a strict training regiment that he stuck to. Turning his head, he brushed his lips against hers before kissing her soundly on the lips. "Yes, let's make sure I don't have to expend the energy to putting this place back to its rightful setting."
