A meeting of not!siblings
Who: Merlin and Ganieda
Where: A Coffee shop near her new house
When: Right after her post
What: Meeting, talking, pondering...
Warnings: PG-13
Complete

Merlin was curious. He had never had a sibling before, not truly. Being the son of a Duke of Hell and a mortal woman tended to make that not likely. But here he was, going to meet with a young woman, one who claimed, convincingly, to be his sister.

She had replaced a spitfire of a young girl, and he has used the few minutes he had to search for every ounce of information on her, and had downloaded it all to hardcopy, with pictures and files, so she could know more of her new life... if she chose to live that one.

He strode into the coffee shop and took up a table, watching for her. He was glad most people had no idea who he was, and enhanced that with a spell that would keep anyone not his friend, or not looking specifically for him, from finding him. Magic was useful, especially here and now. He ordered a real menu from the waiter, which brought some blinking, and settled back to wait.

She grinned.

"Exactly. Understanding others never gets easier, unless you use Magic, and even then, it only gets more strange."

She nodded.

"A lot of things are like that these days. Money is necessary to live and so people form companies, also called businesses, or work for other people's businesses."

She eyed the menu and decided on a large hamburger and fries.

Ganieda nodded. She could understand this, of course, on a very small level, but it was a beginning.

"And...what do you do, in this world? It does not seem to me that magic is...of the common here, from the little I have seen."

"I replaced an owner of a large company, one that makes toys, and I spend a lot of time in that job, when not adventuring with my... lady friend."

Her eyes were warm as she thought of Belladonna.

"A large company that makes toys," she repeated.

So many things.

Ganieda grinned as she watched Merlin. "I take it she is special to you?"

She nodded.

"Indeed. With many thousands of thousands of people, and each having moneys, toys have become a large business, here."

She chuckled, then blushed.

"She is... she is as close as an intended might be, if not quite that formal yet. Perhaps someday."

"I am glad for you. I hope I may meet her sometime?"

She sipped her ice water and allowed herself to relax a little, finally. Things would be well.

"Of course. She will want to meet you, as well."

She smiled a little.

"I told her I was off to meet you, this afternoon. She is probably off, wandering. She has a great wandering spirit."

"As do you, as I recall. Or did, at one time?"

She smiles and asks, "Tell me...what does a girl like Genevieve do all the day? It seems that she must be...idle."

She pauses. "Though I have not investigated, perhaps, thoroughly enough."

"OH, I still do. Just recently, with her and others, we reclaimed a lost artifact. It was fun."

Her eyes glowed golden as she spoke.

She grew serious then.

"In summer, likely chores around her house, go out with friends, and while at home, spend time talking to them on the internet, or on the phone. Possibly writing."

She tilted her head.

"Do you have any hobbies, other than reading?"

"What sort of thing was that?"

She chewed on her lip. "Talking to them...oh, as we did before we came to meet?" She wondered what on earth she would talk about to those girls. She had a feeling none of them were currently being groomed for marriage.

Ganieda nodded. "I did needlework--but I suppose that women do not do that any longer."

"A magical and holy item, lost to the ages in a tomb. Our company was thankfully successful, with no losses."

She smiled to Ganieda.

"Yes, exactly. And some do, there are a lot of people who do what is now called crafts. After we leave here, I think that should be our next stop."

She eyed the time.

"Then home again, so that your replacee's parents do not worry."

Ganieda nodded. "I think there may only be a mother--it seemed to lack a man's...energy, about the place. But she does seem very preoccupied and distressed, and I would hate to distress her further."

"We can see about getting you an internship with my company, so as to give you a reason to be seen with me, and at LEGO, and give you distance from the situation while you learn this world. If you wish it, that is."

She pondered.

"How old is your replacee? Did she have ID that stated such?"

Ganieda smiled and nodded. "That would be well, and it would help me to get accustomed to this world better, I should think."

She picked up the small bag that she had put the girl's wallet into. "Aye, there was a small card...She is sixteen, as I am."

She handed it over. It was a junior driver's license, with her picture and an age of sixteen.

She looked at it, and nodded.

"Good. 16 years of age is old enough. There are stricter rules of work here and people are treated as not full equals until they are 18."

She shook her head.

"It is at times, a silly world."

She handed it back.

"I will send you an email, to your computer, who, if he is as animate as you say, will alert yo when it arrives. It will have a faux contest, and you can enter it, and when you win, win an internship at the company."

Ganieda smiled. "I see you are as clever as I remember," she said softly. "The...computer has been helping me with some matters of etiquette and helped me find the coffee shop."

It is clear that she will have to do much more exploring in Genevieve's room...she needed to figure some things out.

Merlin nodded, then glanced around and spoke. Her words were soft, sibilant, and shifted tone every moment, her hands sketching the air, and golden, red, and black lights shimmering along them as she encanted a spell.

A moment later a small flat item appeared in her hand. It fairly glowed gold.

"To all others, this will appear to be what is called a DVD for your computer, but in truth it is an enhancement spell, to allow your computer to gain even more ability to aid you. And also to allow it to contact me, if you need me, no matter the hour."

Her eyes were fond as she looked at Ganieda.

"A sister unknown you may have been, but a sister loved you will be."

She took the small golden disc in her hand. She could see herself in the front of it.

Her smile wobbled a little and tears came to her eyes. "Thank you. Thank you so much," she said gratefully.

Merlin took her other hand and gently squeezed.

"No one deserves to be alone, sister mine. And as long as I am here, you will not be."

She took a deep breath and nodded.

"That greatly comforts me. I think this could be a very interesting adventure."

Her very first adventure, really. It's been a quiet life for Ganieda so far.

Merlin smiled at her.

"Worry not my sister. All will be well. This place is no more evil or good than any other, but you will discover magic of many kinds here."

"It seems to be so." She pauses for a moment. "Is it terrible of me to look forward to figuring this world out?"

Her other life had been far simpler and she rather felt as if she should be much more unhappy than she was in this moment.

But this situation could not be changed and so she must make the best of things.
