Who: Bobby Singer and John Winchester
What: Bobby's going to check on John. He's going to make sure he's really who he says he is. They're probably going to get shitfaced together and talk about the boys, reminisce about being in the Marines and hunting.
Where: Las Vegas
When: Tonight
Warnings: Swearing. Talking about war. Killing some vamps. Probably R-ish.

Bobby felt pretty damn selfish that he was going to be the first person to see John from the other world. He had justified it in his mind by thinking that he wanted to check him out first. He knew that John had come from hell and he knew what happened to people that went to hell. They usually didn't come back from there human. He didn't want the boys to get their hopes up only to be disappointed that the person that claimed to be their Daddy wasn't really theirs. Or he was, but he had bad intentions.

For some reason, Bobby had always felt responsible for the boys like they were his own. Especially so since John had gone. He cared about them and didn't want anything to happen to them. Unlike what he was able to protect them from in their own world. He also hoped that John wouldn't blame Bobby for not keeping Dean safe. Not saving Sam the heartache of losing Dean.

He also had his own cross to bear with John. They were friends going way back to the war. He had told Bobby never to marry the woman that he did. They lost touch while Bobby was married to her just for the mere reason that Bobby's wife couldn't stand John and his blue collar ways. After Bobby's wife had become possessed the only living soul on Earth that gave two shits about him was John Winchester. The words he last spoke to him he'll never forget.

They fought over a fucking poker game that went sour. The stakes were though for him to give Sam the blessing to go to law school. After Bobby lost John had looked at him with that shit-eating grin of his and told him that a son's place was with his family. Bobby could never except that and up until the day of John's death when Sam came to ask Bobby for the supplies to summon old yellow-eyed. Even to the end he had told Sam what his Daddy was doing. When John died Bobby's conscience suffered. Even though he was glad that Dean was alive and would've done the same thing if he was in his shoes he wished that he had never betrayed him.

Bobby took his best bottle of single malt along with him through the portkey. Already opened and had his usual holy water inside of it. He found John's address quickly and went up to his front door. He gave a good solid knock and waited for his friend to open the door.

"Who do you think they got that from? Don't answer, if it was from their Mama I really don't wanna know. Maybe at one time I did but..." He grinned and asked for another card. Now he had an ace and a nine.

"Physically, yeah. He's pretty tight-lipped with me, busy with his girlfriend and all that." Bobby felt that he really hadn't reconnected with Sam like he liked but he knew that they had time.

John took the hand, with getting twenty. The dealer ended up with twenty-seven. I had a sixteen. "I'm gonna go call my lady. Let her know that I'll be stayin' on your couch." Bobby had a feeling that this wasn't going to be a short night.

"Think you outta stick to your Jedi woman and whatever dirty old magazines you still have." Somewhere along the way this topic had taken a bad turn. Bobby was joking but they both knew John had been in 'Nam when he turned seventeen. There wasn't much time for that sorta thing when you were getting shelled and shot at.

"Thats just how Sam is. Another bad habit he picked up from his old man." Sometimes him and his boys were too much alike for their own good. He wished to hell there was a way to change that, but they were all too damn stubborn.

"Don't spend all night slobbering on the phone with the woman." His friend walked away to find somewhere quieter and John turned his attention to the dealer. "You want to make this game a little more interesting?" Pushing all his chips onto the felt he watched her eyes flicker down counting the chips in a second.

At a different time, Sam probably would've found the conversation between the two men funny. But right now she wasn't sure what was up and what was down. All she knew was that she had been transported to some bizarro universe where she was a dealer of all things.

Before her shift tonight she went to the casino manager and told him of her qualifications. He laughed in her face and asked her if she really thought that the Nugget catered to 'whales'? She was going to have to go to the other casinos on her day off tomorrow and see if anyone knew who she was since apparently... The Montecito did not exist here.

Even though this table only had a five dollar buy in she raised an eyebrow at the man's question. It had to be around two hundred bucks. But when you're poor, every little bit helps. "Sure, what's your plan, handsome?"

"The name is John." At least she looked interested in the chips, when they'd first sat down she looked like she was about to slip into a coma standing on her feet.

"Let's keep it simple. High card wins. You win, the chips are yours. I win and you smile." He was thinking she was stunning when she smiled, usually everyone in a casino was full of fake smiles and batting eyes.

Not her though. Winking at her he waved to the cards, wanting to get this finished before Bobby came back. Last thing he needed was Bobby acting like he'd lost his mind for making a bet like that. Besides, this was his lucky day.

Tilting her head a little to the side she listened. Didn't seem like a bad idea. With all the bad luck she'd had in the last twenty-four hours she was bound to have a little good luck. "You got yourself a deal John."

She flipped a card for both of them. He got a jack and she got a three. Guess her stroke of bad luck continues.

"You win. Why am I not surprised?"

"They say anything goes in Vegas." She dealt and he grinned. It was good to actually feel good for a change.

Tapped a finger on his card, sliding it back to her. "Sorta my lucky day. You might want to massage your cheeks a little, don't want you to strain anything when you flash me those pearly whites."

Glancing up behind her he saw a couple of beefy security types walking over. This didn't look good. Figured they were going to kick him out as they stood on either side of the dealer. Where the hell was Bobby anyway?

Sam was actually going to smile for him but it wasn't long before she felt two hands on her arms. "You're going to have to come with us." There was another dealer to take her place. "Sorry sir for the inconvenience. Our dealer's are not allowed to change the rules of the games." One of the security guards said. He handed him a few chips and said, "Play a few games on us."

Shrugging her shoulders she tried to let go. "What the hell?" The security guards were not letting go of her. She started to throw a fit. People only touched Sam on her terms, not on theirs. "Sam, you're fired. You can't change the rules." They started to march her towards the exit.

Sam was past the point of caring if she made a scene or not. "How can I be fired? Do you even know who I am? Of course you don't! Because I don't belong here!" She was screaming and then she just stopped heading out of the casino.

John lifted an eyebrow as the guards turned on the dealer, firing her on the spot. Shit, since when were they so damn serious about people having a little fun in Vegas? He figured out her name was Sam during the commotion and she was one heck of a little firecracker. No wonder they'd sent a couple of guards to deal with her.

She gave them a piece of her mind before stomping off, which was about the time Bobby came back over, eying me over, knowing I'd done something. "Think I got the dealer fired Bobby." He'd probably already figured that out though. Watched her go, shoving her way through a door and out onto the sidewalk. As soon as she was outside a couple of guys in cheap suits turned to follow her. Narrowed my eyes at them, not liking this.

"Those guys look a little pale to you?" John was already off his stool, chips left behind on the table as he sliced through the crowd.

Bobby had left John all of five minutes before coming back to find him in the middle of a ruckus. "What did you do this time?" He shook his head with a grin. Probably asked the dealer to play high card wins. He didn't think that a casino in Vegas would follow the same rules as the Roadhouse. Since there were no rules at the Roadhouse.

As soon as Bobby saw John's game face he started to follow him out. "They'd fire her and try to kill her over... what?" Bobby'd figured that John would flirt with the girl but he didn't think anything that he'd do was a fireable offense.

"You do have a piece on you, don't you? Somethin' sharp?" All Bobby had was rock salt and that wouldn't do shit to vamps.

"The usual I guess." Bobby managed to keep up with John as he made it to the door, watching the pissed off dealer stomp down the sidewalk without a clue as to what was behind her.

"She said she doesn't belong here. Think those two blood suckers heard her, they know she's a free meal, nobody's gonna miss her." Staring he tried to will Sam to stay with the crowd on the sidewalk. Instead she turned down a side street. Shit.

"Didn't get my smile." Patted his pocket letting Bobby know he was packing. Bullets would just piss the vamps off but it'd make for a nice distraction. John had picked up something in Elroy's arsenal that he was dying to try out. This would be the best time to try it. "Least one of us doesn't have to be bait tonight."

Sam was walking hard and fast down the street. Not caring about who was around her or what her surroundings were. She was so completely pissed off she was going to cry. There was no way she'd let anyone see her cry. So she knew that her best bet would be to get home. It wasn't her home but it was a home. She needed to get back to the apartment so she could figure out what the hell she was going to do.

There were some others with plans of their own for her. She took a short cut down a side street that was more of an alley than a street. "Hey lady... we heard that you don't belong here so that probably means you just got here. And, you are just bangin' hot. So what do you say we make you part of our family...?"

Sam turned and looked at the two of them and gave them both her best glare and get lost look. She'd been stuck in a position similar to this before and there was no way in hell she was getting a repeat. That was about when they both showed her their TEETH. "What the..." She didn't stop to swap stories she started to run.

Bobby and John had taken cover behind a dumpster, listening to the confrontation. Typical blood suckers, they never were that original with their lines.

She took off running, the sound of her heels echoing down the alley as she sprinted past the dumpster, vampires on her tail. Nodded to Bobby as he jumped out from his hiding spot, looping the silver garrote around the neck of one vamp and pulling. The silver was razor sharp and sliced through flesh and bone like it was butter, head and torso separating as glowing embers danced in the dark before the remaining pieces turned to ash.

"Next?" John smiled, he hadn't gotten to do this in a while and it felt good to have something to fight for again. He was in such a good mood he might just let Bobby take care of the second vamp. Hopefully Sam would stop running before she got too far away, otherwise she might just run into more trouble then she was worth.

Bobby liked the idea of him not havin' to be bait. Even if it was at the expense of someone else. He was confident enough that the two of them would be able to take out two bloodsuckers easily enough. They'd been up against worse odds than that.

The first one was down with a garrote that John had in his pocket. Bobby didn't have anything as flashy as that. Hell... he didn't even have a blade on him. What he did have was his gun, packed with salt of all things. It'd just piss off the last vamp more than anything else. At least it'd give John enough time to go in for the kill.

He shot three rounds into the back of the vamp as it turned to run the opposite way down the alley. With that it turned and started charging right at him. Bobby said, "Remember Tulsa?" With that John threw one end of the garrote at Bobby and he caught it. They both simultaneously took three steps forward into the vamp's run. It went head first into the zip line cutting it's own head off and dusting.

From the other end of the alley the dealer shouted. "What the hell was that?"

Grinned over at Bobby as the last one hit the pavement. "Wasn't sure you'd remember Tulsa." Wound the silver garrote back around his left hand just behind the knuckles. John wished he'd thought of one of these years ago. Not that the money was there to buy one when he started hunting.

Keeping an eye out for more blood suckers they caught up to Sam who was standing there bug eyed at the end of the alley. "Hey. Its Sam right? This world here, its not the one you came from. New here myself but we've handled things like this before. You're gonna need to be more careful where you step at night. Else your going to end up a snack for something."

Didn't seem right for her to get thrown into all this without a warning but that was life. Survival of the fittest, and all that. He looked over at Bobby who was hiding underneath his cap. "They didn't bite you did they?"

Listening to John as he played the white knight Bobby inwardly was shaking his head. At least he wasn't trying to sugarcoat things for her.

Sam looked between John and Bobby for a few seconds. She didn't look scared, just alarmed and on edge. "Gathered that by the way that they had the teeth and the way they went poof when you killed them. This is probably my worst day ever. I wish that I'd just wake up." Bobby figured that John could give her the speech that she's in a different place. He just didn't like talking to strangers unless he had to.

Gave John a good glare when he asked if one of them had bit him. "No, doubt you'd be as suave if these vamps weren't the go poof kind. Finish up your convo, we've got drinkin' to do."

Bobby had one hell of a one track mind. "Well it doesn't much matter what kind they are when they get their heads taken off with silver." John wasn't one to take chances in a fight. He supposed the demons could call it fighting dirty but he didn't care since they ended up dead.

"Well you aren't dead. Maybe you've hit bottom and it can only get better from here." Didn't sound like she was interested in hearing it would all be rainbows and candy canes in the morning and that wasn't what he was going to tell her. "You need something come and find me here [address]. Hope things get better for you."

Nodding he turned, leaving the alley and walking out onto the main sidewalk for downtown. Bobby wanted to drink and so did he. "You think I'm suave?" Punched his friend on the arm smiling.

Heard Sam say to John, "Maybe you're right. Thanks for the help." Couldn't help but turn around and look at the two of them from the end of the alley. She took a pen out of her pocket and scribbled something down on a piece of paper for him. "Think I owe you a drink for doing what you did. Call if you want to cash in on that." With that she gave him a dazzling smile. Damn Winchesters, they're all the same.

"Don't need to blow your head up any bigger Winchester. Think maybe Dean's even a step ahead of you on that front."

Bobby was feeling pretty pumped actually. As pumped as he got that is. His best bud was back, and he had a girl, and they were probably going to go look at some tits. Could it really get any better? "So, strip club? Or are we doin' a booze only drink night."

"Shit Bobby." He stared down at the scrap of paper she'd written her number on. This had been one hell of a day and it wasn't over yet. "You have any idea how long its been since I've gotten a phone number?"

Shook his head before crumpling the paper and shoving it in his pocket. Sam was a looker and all but what was he going to do with a girl like that? She ought to be with one of the boys not him.

"If I wanted a lap dance I sure as hell wouldn't be hangin out with you. Let's get good and drunk. Then we can figure out how to fix all the worlds problems. And you can tell me more about your redhead woman." Fact was John didn't want anything bad to happen, not today. Things might not be perfect for him here but he was happy, and that was sayin something.

"Probably only 'cause you've been in hell smart ass. Not that you've called any of them back in the last twenty plus years but I'm sure you've gotten 'em." He wasn't fooling Bobby.

"Sounds just like old times... so, you gonna call her? Or, what?" Bobby wanted to talk 'bout more important things but he couldn't go doin' that until they were both good and sloshed.

The first bar they found was very dive bar like, just the way Bobby liked his bars to be. He flagged a waitress and she was headed their way. "Jack? Or somethin' else?" He would just be ordering them a bottle.

"What can I say? Been busy." Last thing he wanted was advice on women from Bobby or anyone else.

Leave it to Bobby to find the shittiest bar in Vegas. Course both of them felt right at home inside. "Think I'll stick with 'or what' there. Call her right after I find out your shackin up with some..." He caught himself and laughed. "...maybe there's hope for me. Just not anytime soon." John let his voice turn serious at the end. They'd both buried wives, he never had moved on. Never had a chance with Yellow Eyes out there.

"Nothing wrong with Jack."

They'd been working on their bottle of Jack Daniels for an hour and there was only a quarter left of the bottle. Any passerby would probably be able to tell that the two men were drunk due to the color in their cheeks and by how much they were laughing.

Deciding that it was now or never to make his peace with John, he went on ahead. Plus, he figured if John got pissed at him. He'd at least have a 50/50 chance on whether or not he'd be killed or just maimed.

"Been waitin' 'till we were both mostly sloshed to tell you this. When I showed up here... things were real bad John. There's no way to go back and fix it and I feel the need to apologize to you for not keepin' the boys safe." He would go into it in more detail if John wanted but for now he poured them each another glass.

Trading shots and talking shit about the old days had gotten them pretty blitzed over the last hour. Hearing the tone in his friends voice change John sat up listening hard.

"Not keepin the boys safe? From what I hear they're both alive and got a roof over the their heads that isn't a prison. You don't have anything to apologize for."

Wasn't sure what Bobby was going on about. Must not be able to hold his drink anymore. John shook his head, both of em knocking back another round.

John just wasn't getting what Bobby was trying to tell him. He was new to this world so he had no idea of the different time lines and different dimensions that people showed up from.

"The boys that are here are from a different time line then what I'm from. You'll see that people show up... some from the way past and some from the future. You never know when or how..." Bobby trailed off and decided to just get straight with John.

"A little over a year ago Sam died. Dean made a deal with the Crossroads demon to bring him back. He only got one year instead of the usual ten... When I left Dean had just gone, and Sam... he was all alone." Bobby was as close to tears as he got and that didn't happen often. He felt big time guilt for it. Not keeping them safe like he promised to John all those many years ago.

Hell, the last thing he needed was for Bobby to get with the drunken depression. Nobody made for a more depressing drunk. "Was I doing anything to help them? No, cause I was in hell. Did all I could for them, what were you gonna do? Come downstairs and join me?"

His mood turning sour he slammed his glass down, not wanting to think about his boys dying. "They're here now. Whatever other bullshit dimensions there are don't matter. This is all we've got. You gonna sit around cry over spilled milk?"

He wasn't going to. Might be fun to sit around and demand answers. Why wasn't Mary here? Why couldn't him and Sam get along? None of it mattered, it was what it was.

"Get over it. I like it here Bobby."

Bobby listened to everything John had to say. He had a point. Things were good here, he couldn't complain about that. He just had to let John know because he thought that he at least owed that much to him.

He grinned and said, "Already over it. This world is fine for me." He lifted his glass in salute to him before downing the rest and slamming it on the table.

"You'll have to meet Mira soon. When you goin' out to see your boys? Could show ya the port key thing tomorrow mornin' when I head back to Philly." He figured that John would want to check out the boy's digs for himself.
