Who: Bobby Singer and John Winchester
What: Bobby's going to check on John. He's going to make sure he's really who he says he is. They're probably going to get shitfaced together and talk about the boys, reminisce about being in the Marines and hunting.
Where: Las Vegas
When: Tonight
Warnings: Swearing. Talking about war. Killing some vamps. Probably R-ish.

Bobby felt pretty damn selfish that he was going to be the first person to see John from the other world. He had justified it in his mind by thinking that he wanted to check him out first. He knew that John had come from hell and he knew what happened to people that went to hell. They usually didn't come back from there human. He didn't want the boys to get their hopes up only to be disappointed that the person that claimed to be their Daddy wasn't really theirs. Or he was, but he had bad intentions.

For some reason, Bobby had always felt responsible for the boys like they were his own. Especially so since John had gone. He cared about them and didn't want anything to happen to them. Unlike what he was able to protect them from in their own world. He also hoped that John wouldn't blame Bobby for not keeping Dean safe. Not saving Sam the heartache of losing Dean.

He also had his own cross to bear with John. They were friends going way back to the war. He had told Bobby never to marry the woman that he did. They lost touch while Bobby was married to her just for the mere reason that Bobby's wife couldn't stand John and his blue collar ways. After Bobby's wife had become possessed the only living soul on Earth that gave two shits about him was John Winchester. The words he last spoke to him he'll never forget.

They fought over a fucking poker game that went sour. The stakes were though for him to give Sam the blessing to go to law school. After Bobby lost John had looked at him with that shit-eating grin of his and told him that a son's place was with his family. Bobby could never except that and up until the day of John's death when Sam came to ask Bobby for the supplies to summon old yellow-eyed. Even to the end he had told Sam what his Daddy was doing. When John died Bobby's conscience suffered. Even though he was glad that Dean was alive and would've done the same thing if he was in his shoes he wished that he had never betrayed him.

Bobby took his best bottle of single malt along with him through the portkey. Already opened and had his usual holy water inside of it. He found John's address quickly and went up to his front door. He gave a good solid knock and waited for his friend to open the door.

Listening to his friend John started shaking his head. Bobby Singer, domesticated. Never thought this day would come. "Next thing I'm gonna hear is you sayin you flush twice for her." Poured another round of Jack, draining the bottle. Not a bad nights work for two old hunters.

"Ah, I stepped right into it Bobby." He must be drunk if he was talking this openly. "Turns out I know Dean's fiance and Sam, well he's Sam and I'm me."

He hoped things could work out, that he'd get to spend time with the boys. "Sure." Fact was he didn't want to go anywhere in the morning. Checked the time on his watch and laughed. Make that later this morning.

"No, in her world she was a soldier. Like... old school soldier. She's more comfortable in my garage with me then I've ever seen a woman." His wife wouldn't even step foot in his garage because she was afraid that she'd get her designer shoes dirty.

"You know Bela? I knew her too. She was far different in my world then she is here though." Wasn't sure how John knew her. "You two will make it through." He couldn't do anything but hope that that's how it would be.

"Well... when we get up then." He saw John checking his watch and he did the same. "We can even go through once and I can show you where they live. If you wanna stop in I'll leave you to it. If not... I won't give you shit 'bout it this time."

"Maybe there really is some one out there for everyone." If they started another bottle he might even start talking about soul mates.

"No Bobby. I knoooow Bela." Nodding slowly he tried to tell Bobby without coming out and saying it. "Well knew. Once." Didn't bother arguing with him about Sammy. Problem with John and Sammy was they were both too damn stubborn.

"That isn't gonna be for a few hours." John was pretty sure he'd be able to sleep for two days. Been a while since he got a bed to sleep in. He could wait until then to tell Bobby he wasn't going anywhere tomorrow.

"Yeah, maybe. Maybe that hot dealer is the one for you here." He raised an eyebrow at him before laughing at the look that John gave him. "Never know if you don't call."

When John told him that he knew Bela in that tone of voice he figured out that John fucked her. "So... what was she tryin' to steal from you? In my world she stole the Colt from the boys right out of their hotel room."

Bobby finished off the bottle and poured the last into both of their glasses. "Reckon you're right 'bout that." He just knew deep down that John was trying to get out of it... but he wasn't going to press the issue. Yet.

"Uhhuh. And maybe I'm Chuck Norris." Wouldn't be surprised if he did get around to dialing the number and it ended up connecting to the sheriff's department. He'd gotten the girl fired and then used her for vamp bait.

"It was just business." He wasn't one to kiss and tell, especially when Dean was set on marrying the girl. Hell he hadn't worn a tux in over twenty years. "Took the Colt huh? If they were dumb enough to let it out of their sight I don't have any sympathy for them."

"When ain't I right?" Hoped Bobby was smart enough not to answer that.

Bobby laughed. "If anyone's close to Chuck, it'd be you." He shook his head. Who ever knew that these two old guys would be where they are now? Hell, Bobby thought that they would've both been long gone by now.

"Gotta declare bullshit on that. But whatever fib you wanna spin just know that I know you better than you know yourself." Bobby figured that John just didn't want to bang and tell since Dean was engaged to her. "They were out of it. It's a long story. Partially my fault I guess. But mostly Bela's."

Bobby just shook his head. "You ready to go yet Sarg? Or are you still needin' more sauce?"

"At least I ain't as old as him." Fact he was sitting here with Bobby ready to fall over drunk was hell of a thing. Unlikely as hell, he wondered if Bobby was gonna ask about hell, John wasn't going to volunteer anything.

"Go ahead and declare it. Isn't going to change anything." Besides, it hadn't been all that memorable really. "Do you have any short stories?" If there was one thing Bobby wasn't known for it was being chatty.

Hell, he'd just used the word chatty. Maybe he was a little drunk.

"Let's fall out. Been thinking about sleeping on a mattress for the last few minutes and its sounding pretty damn good in my head." John pushed back from the table, eying the empty bottle and glasses. Yeah, they'd hit it pretty hard.

"Your damn close." Bobby countered and pulled out his wallet putting a few bills on the table to cover the bottle and give the waitress a nice tip.

"Got stuck in my own nightmare. The boys dream walked to get out of it. Bela told the boys that she wanted to help them 'cause I once helped her out. Which was a crock of shit since I sold her somethin' and that was it. While they were dream walkin' Bela stole it right outta their safe. End of story. Oh, a demon helped me fix the colt so you didn't need special bullets for it. That demon is here. See? Two short stories. Capable of them even when I'm trashed."

Bobby stood up and they headed out the door. "No mattresses in hell?"

"Look who's talkin'." If Bobby wanted to talk about being old John was ready to give it right back to him.

He wasn't sure if Bobby was really drunk and those stories were more bullshit or if that was a drunk Bobby summing things up. "All right. Think I like your stories more when I'm drunk anyhow." A demon fixing the Colt? The boys in Bobby's head? And here he figured they were sitting around drinking beer while he was in hell.

"Not so much." They headed down the sidewalk, no more tourists in sight tonight. The lights were still going full steam though. Telling Bobby he'd been nailed to a wall wasn't going to help anything. So he didn't.

"Hey, I'm first to admit I'm an old dog. Don't need to be remindin' me." Bobby had a few years on John but that didn't mean he felt he had to treat him with kid gloves.

"Usually you did. That's the best time to get you to listen anyhow." He chuckled at that.

Wincing at John's reply he decided that he never wanted to bring up the topic of hell again. He didn't want to think of his friend down in the pit. That lead to other thoughts about it and he just didn't want to go there. Not anymore. If and when John ever decided that he wanted to talk, he'd be there. But he doubted that he'd ever want to relive that.

They walked back to his place and it wasn't that far. They laughed about little things just like happy drunk people did along the way. Once they were back to John's place John headed for his bed and Bobby found John's couch. Bobby's last thought before falling asleep was one of hope. This world just wasn't so bad at all. He had Mira, the boys happy, and now his best friend. Things were good.
