WHO: Harry and Daphne
WHEN: Monday, June 16th, 2002 - 7pm
WHERE: Matsuri (Japanese Restaurant)
WHAT: Let's try this again
RATING: Uhh....whatever....
STATUS: Closed / Complete

Having spent almost an hour chatting with Susan at the Leaky Cauldron, Harry had forgone his shopping all together. He had to work tomorrow but he'd have more then enough time once he was off and the items really weren't things he couldn't live without. Just random items he'd only know realized he'd run out of. Shrugging it off, he had headed back to his flat in order to shower and change. He was slightly looking forward to the evening. He had not had the chance to dine at Matsuri in quite a while. If he recalled correctly, the last time he had been there was with Ron and Hermione, much to Ron's displeasure. He was more of the buffet sort of person.

Once he had finished, he made the quick and painless journey over to the restaurant and checked in for their reservations. As he sat at their table and waited patiently, he glanced around. He'd lucked out and managed to book a time when the restaurant wasn't overly busy and still maintained the calm and unhurried air about it. He figured if anything, they both needed a little bit of that to counter balance the push from the ministry. If he thought about it, which he didn't want to, they were suppose to be wed by the end of this coming week. If that wasn't enough to make one sweat, he really didn't know what else was. For the moment he was simply focusing on the detail. If he looked a single detail at a time instead of the larger picture he might be able to make it through everything with his sanity in tact.

Harry hadn't noticed the time or worried that Daphne hadn't arrived yet, he had more more on his mind at the moment. It seemed everyone had a lot more on their mind then normal. Now that there had been a time limit placed on these marriages, it was beginning to feel as though the cages they were in were getting smaller and smaller by the day. When Daphne did arrive, he was almost surprised. Shaking himself mentally, he offered her a smile.

"Don't worry about it, your really not late. I only just arrived myself." he responded. There had always been the concept that women take forever to get ready for any sort of engagement, but he'd never had to deal with that with Ginny or Hermione, and they were the two woman he normally spent time with. Ginny always seemed to be ready for anything and Hermione was usually five minutes early and dragging their arses down the steps.

"A big pain, you mean?" he asked, raising an amused eyebrow. "I'm not saying that, naturally. That's just what I've heard."

At least he was cranky about it like most blokes her age would be. Any one Daphne ever went out with really bloody hated it when she was late. No, she was not the most punctual person in the world at times, but she always had motives. This time, however, she was just completely stuck in her own little world thinking about why the world hated her so much that they would force her into a marriage that she was unprepared for.

She settled comfortably and crossed her legs beneath the table, looking over at him curiously. "We're not big pains all of the time. Just when we're fashionably late because we're trying to make a good impression." That list could have gone on forever, to be honest. "Us women have our moments, you could say. Though, I can't say much about blokes. You guys are a right bloody pain in the arse from what I've experienced."

Already he was amused by their conversation and there certainly wasn't anything wrong with that. If they were too busy being amused then they really had no time to brood, stress, and ultimately freak out on each other. So...definitely a good thing. "You're trying to make a good impression?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Seeings as it was the second time they had met, he figured the impression was already made, not that it was a bad one or anything. It was actually surprisingly pleasant...granted, he wasn't about to admit that out loud. Oh no, there were certain things best kept quiet.

"I won't deny it. We are." he shrugged with a laugh. "It's in our nature, so we really can't be blamed for it."

"I have to make a good impression on someone I'm marrying. We'll be together forever, I don't need to be married to someone who wants me dead." Ironically enough, she was pretty sure he had the same thought. At least that last thought. Bloody hell, she could just drop the whole act and spend the night being herself for once. But that might end up dangerously. Not for her, but for Harry.

First impressions were key, but second impressions lasted the longest. She was still brewing up a plan.

No, there was no denying that guys were complete gits at times. She had enough experience with men that she knew who would be tolerable and who would need a good smack in the face if necessary. "Merlin must have really hated us then. What, for sticking us with you lot, and all."

She certainly had that right. Though, internally the word forever felt like a kick to the stomach. Again, he just wanted to focus on one detail at a time. One detail at a time. "I know exactly what you mean. Why do you think I so willing offered to keep ice cream in stock." he smirked. "You can't kill me if I give you ice cream. It's one of those unwritten rules."

Harry had no plan of his own in the works, he was simply living from moment to moment...granted, he'd always lived like that so it wasn't too hard to imagine. If he randomly starting planning things he'd been very frightened. Something surely would be wrong with him.

"I don't think he hated you, I just figure it's because you needed something to do." Harry responded, with a shrug. Worked for him.

"Well, just be glad you are allowing this whole ice cream thing. If not, we'd really have some problems," she joked, looking over at him. "But you are correct. I cannot kill you if there's ice cream in the picture. Though, you must remember this in the future and we must always be stocked up."

Maybe moment to moment would work better over all for Daphne, though she was much better at being organized and having things planned out way ahead of time.

"Ah, well. I suppose you're right. I'd drink to that, but our waiter is missing in action currently," she said with a smirk. If there was one thing Daphne hated, it was a waiter who didn't offer drinks immediately.

"Duly noted." Harry laughed at that. There was just something about ice cream that made everything else far better, even if you weren't all that fond of it. No one could say no.

He hadn't even noticed that the waiter had yet to return, though he couldn't blame him. He didn't normally come here with...well, with Daphne.

"That would be my fault." Harry responded, catching the waiter in questions attention effectively drawing him over. "I normally come here with friends and we...tend to talk...a lot. It takes 15 minutes just to pick up a menu. They've learned to except that.

Daphne laughed at his last statement. She could understand that no matter what the situation was or who he was out with. Daphne did the same when out with friends, but they at least did it over drinks. "I talk more than I eat when I'm out, so it's not the food," she said, smiling at the waiter as he moved near him.

"Not ready to order, but I'll take some Sake and a glass of white wine," she said before looking over to Harry. She had a habit of ordering two drinks. Normally one alcoholic and the other just water or juice or the like, but she really couldn't resist sake and red wine was just a given with her.

"Depends on who I'm with, but I can agree to that. Half the time eating gets in the way of talking and, naturally, talking is far more important." he responded, with a shrug and a small grin.

Like Daphne, he couldn't resist the sake. He had never grown accustomed to drinking, but if there one drink he did like that was certainly it. "It sounds good to me, I'll have the same...but water instead of the wine." Alright, so perhaps it wasn't exactly the same.

After the waiter had once again disappeared from their table, he remembered the envelope he'd shrunk and stuck inside one of his pockets. "I think I was suppose to owl you when I heard back from my Realtor, but I only heard back this morning, so I figured I'd just bring the information with me. She said she has a couple locations in mind and sent along some pictures and the like. I just told her I'd get back to her."

"To me, the whole point of going out is to catch up and talk, rather than eat. I could eat any time I wanted to, but when I'm out, I rather just drink and talk." She also shrugged, per usual in this situation with Harry. "Sake drinker? I never would have guessed that about you." Daphne smirked and looked down at her hands.

When he went on to mention the bit about his Realtor and sending pictures, Daphne looked back over at him curiously. "Anything good?" she questioned, leaning in slightly. She was extraordinarily picky about her living conditions and wouldn't settle for anything less than the best, so she had to study every picture perfectly and investigate every flat when she got the chance.

Harry shrugged in return. You'd be hard pressed to find him at a point where he was feeling more alcohol then common sense, but that didn't mean he ignored a good thing when he found it. "When you're hooked on Japanese cuisine, you grow attached to the drinks as well."

Removing the envelope from his pocket, he discreetly returned it to it's proper side and handed it over to her. There was one particular spot that had caught his eye. It appeared really nice, large, and open.

"There's one in there that's listed on the east end of the city. It looks really nice, but the other ones aren't anything special and I've certainly seen better." he shrugged. "I told her to continue to keep an eye out so I'm sure she'll have more the next time I talk to her."

He had a pretty good point. When Daphne had traveled to Japan in the Spring a few years back, her brothers got her hooked on the drinks and the Sushi which she was now desperately craving. "This is true," she said with a nod, fixing her dress over her knees.

"The east side of London is very nice," she said, looking at the picture as she grabbed it from him. "It's nice," she agreed, looking it over in more depth. "Maybe we won't need to look at other places, I kind of like this. Think we should go check it out sometime?"

Harry was a bit surprised that she was interested in one of the first places they had found. When he was looking for his currently flat it had taken him weeks to find it and he'd had to go through about 50 different viewings. It's been a nightmare. He had fully been expecting the same sort of ordeal, not that he was complaining, of course.

"Yeah, definitely." he nodded, resting an elbow on the edge of the table. Not exactly good manners, but whatever. "Was there any particular day you couldn't go and see it. I can contact Marianne tomorrow morning on my way to the Ministry."

It was honestly the exact same on Daphne's part. It had taken her weeks to decide she wanted to move into the inner city and away from where she was used to, on top of that she had gone through tons of places before deciding on the right flat. Hers suited her just fine now, but moving out would be the best option.

"I'm free whenever, really." She didn't want to be overly picky in this situation and drive him completely mad, though the time would come where it was unavoidable.

Harry nodded, taking a moment to think back to his own schedule. He knew he'd be at the Ministry straight through the week, but most of the hours would be taken up in the morning, leaving the evenings relatively free. "I might be able to set something up for Thursday or Friday in the evenings. If not Saturday in the morning, I suppose."

He frowned slightly before giving a shrug. "I'll see what she can work out and then let you know. That's probably the best." In all honesty it probably was. With Marianne, you never knew. Sometimes she worked miracles and at others you wondered if there was a single brain cell in her head.

"That sounds fine," she said with a nod, smiling as their waiter arrived with their drinks. Finally, her thirst would be quenched. "I'm sure it'll be a problem free ordeal. Or at least I hope it will be, considering I know we don't agree on everything." Or hardly anything, they just happened to be on civil terms with one another at the moment.

She was still the same Daphne from school. Her thoughts would never change about certain people or things. She would always be that girl that people never wanted to piss off in fear of her overbearing scrutiny. "Maybe it will even be fun," she said with a cheeky glint in her eye, taking her wine and sipping at it, saving the sake for later.

"I hope so to." He responded, ignoring his drinks for the moment. He wasn't too thirsty so they were fine as they were. Putting the pictures and information back into the envelope he stuck them back in his pocket and out of site. Hopefully everything would work out with the apartment on the east end. With everything else going on, he didn't think they needed anymore grief.

"Fun...oh yeah. right up to the point where I actually have to pack, move, and then unpack my things." he responded, cringing slightly. "I suppose it's about time to go through my things and get rid of all the crap that I don't need."

"You know packing can be made easier than it is," she said giving a nod. Naturally she'd tell him to use magic, but she didn't really think the waiter needed to hear that, what being muggle and all.

Daphne was pretty sure it'd turn out just fine like most things usually did, but she was also holding her hopes pretty high in this situation without any fear.

"Oh, I'll be doing it the easy way," he chuckled, lightly. "But not even that is going to help me. I'm horrible when it comes to organizing anything...particularly my own things." Now, most people would already be worried, but he really wasn't that bad when it came to other people. Normally, the rest of the house was neat and tidy...it was just his personal living space...aka. Bedroom...that was in shambles.

For his part, Harry was trying not to think about how things would turn out. For the moment they were getting along alright, but that didn't mean it was always going to be like that. The both had tempers of their own and he was slightly afraid to see them clash.

When the waiter asked if they'd liked to order, Harry shrugged and glanced toward Daphne. He always got relatively the same thing, but he wasn't sure if Daphne was quite ready yet.

"I don't know if I'll leave my furniture or not. Depends on the walls and if they'd match." And the whole deal with the cat. Daphne was terribly serious about that, too. "We'll just have to see about that." Daphne loved order when it came to her own living space. Growing up, her parents and grandparents had the gaudy Victorian styled furniture and other stuff, but Daphne liked things simple and tidy. Hopefully it'd stay like that forever.

Daphne looked up at the waiter and nodded before proceeding to order. "I'll have the futomaki and the kappa maki, please." She smiled again and looked over at Harry.

Harry could hear the point in her statement and raised an eyebrow. Naturally, he didn't comment. It wasn't just his home anymore so he was obviously going to toe the line. It would be ridiculous to attempt to push it over something so simple.

After she ordered, Harry added his own. "I'll have the Shabushabu and an order of Nigiri Sushi, please and thank you." Once he was finished and the waiter had left, he turned back to Daphne, with an amused smile. "Apparently, you know your Japanese cuisine."

Why she was so bloody picky about everything, Daphne didn't know, but it didn't help much and it definitely didn't make things any easier in this situation. But maybe if she just kept the furniture and worked everything out so it looked good and not so mismatched like her grandparents place, it would be okay. Plus, there was a second party involved now. She would let him voice his opinion.

A smirk was given and a nod. "I do," she said looking over at Harry. "Spent a month in Japan. You learn a lot about the different kinds of sushi out there. Although it looks like I could say the same to you."

Harry couldn't say that he was picky about where things went or how they were organized. In all honesty, Hermione had organized his apartment when he'd moved in and it had just remained so after she had finished. It was easier to keep things where they were then attempt to find a new spot for it.

"I haven't been to Japan, but have spent enough time here to learn the menu off by heart." he responded, with a small laugh and a light shrug. He wasn't exactly the traveling type, though he wasn't opposed to it, he was just comfortable right where he was.

"You'd like Japan," she said mimicking his shrug gently. She was a decent judge of character and if he liked the food just in London, the real deal was even better. "I think any one would like Japan, really." Which was true. She didn't exactly have high expectations for the place, what with it being just a large city that was outrageously over populated, but it turned out she really enjoyed it quite a lot. Especially out in the country side.

"Is the sushi here any good? I've never actually been here, but I have heard good things about it."

"I might have to go someday...though I say that about a lot of things and then never do it." Harry responded, shaking his head. "Story of my life, that one."

It was frustrating really. All the times he'd planned something and then never got around to it there had always been a point when he'd ask himself why he hadn't and each time he couldn't find an answer to that.

"Yeah, it's really good. Was a bit intimidated at first and it took me 5 visits before I actually tried it, but haven't looked back since." He responded. It had taken every ounce of persuasion Hermione could manage to get him to do it, but he was quite glad that she had.
