WHO: Harry and Daphne
WHEN: Monday, June 16th, 2002 - 7pm
WHERE: Matsuri (Japanese Restaurant)
WHAT: Let's try this again
RATING: Uhh....whatever....
STATUS: Closed / Complete

Having spent almost an hour chatting with Susan at the Leaky Cauldron, Harry had forgone his shopping all together. He had to work tomorrow but he'd have more then enough time once he was off and the items really weren't things he couldn't live without. Just random items he'd only know realized he'd run out of. Shrugging it off, he had headed back to his flat in order to shower and change. He was slightly looking forward to the evening. He had not had the chance to dine at Matsuri in quite a while. If he recalled correctly, the last time he had been there was with Ron and Hermione, much to Ron's displeasure. He was more of the buffet sort of person.

Once he had finished, he made the quick and painless journey over to the restaurant and checked in for their reservations. As he sat at their table and waited patiently, he glanced around. He'd lucked out and managed to book a time when the restaurant wasn't overly busy and still maintained the calm and unhurried air about it. He figured if anything, they both needed a little bit of that to counter balance the push from the ministry. If he thought about it, which he didn't want to, they were suppose to be wed by the end of this coming week. If that wasn't enough to make one sweat, he really didn't know what else was. For the moment he was simply focusing on the detail. If he looked a single detail at a time instead of the larger picture he might be able to make it through everything with his sanity in tact.

Daphne was still completely freaked out by the whole marriage ordeal, but there was nothing she could do about it but pay a fine or go to jail. For a while, she completely opted for jail, as it wouldn't be too terrible, but Azkaban was pretty feared and she herself didn't want to end up completely psychotic and unattractive. That was the most Azkaban could do to someone, right? As that thought filled her head, Daphne stared at herself in the mirror mid brush stroke and immediately snapped out of it. Looking at her clock, she cursed silently and rushed to get ready. It was ten till seven and she hadn't even fully dressed.

In a panic as usual, Daphne shuffled through the dresses in her closet. She needed something comfortable, yet stylish and attractive to Harry. Just because in the back of her mind, she may or may not have been formulating a plan. With the summer factor playing in, she grabbed a white one and slid into it, matching shoes slipped on immediately after. Her hair had a mind of its own, so she decided to clip the top part back and let it air dry. It'd do it's own thing and look just fine in time.

Finally, she was time to leave and she did, rushing to get to Matsuri on time. She glanced at her watch as she walked in the door, stopping to tell the doorman she had reservations with someone. It was just after seven, but she could use the fashionably late excuse, as always. Having been escorted to the table that Harry was at, she had a chance to catch her breath and calm down slightly, though those Azkaban thoughts were still circulating in her mind.

As she reached the table, Daphne smiled at Harry, being seated across from him. "Sorry I'm late," she said a bit nervously, though holding as much confidence as possible. "You know how us girls can be," she said, smirking and setting her purse down aside of her.

Harry hadn't noticed the time or worried that Daphne hadn't arrived yet, he had more more on his mind at the moment. It seemed everyone had a lot more on their mind then normal. Now that there had been a time limit placed on these marriages, it was beginning to feel as though the cages they were in were getting smaller and smaller by the day. When Daphne did arrive, he was almost surprised. Shaking himself mentally, he offered her a smile.

"Don't worry about it, your really not late. I only just arrived myself." he responded. There had always been the concept that women take forever to get ready for any sort of engagement, but he'd never had to deal with that with Ginny or Hermione, and they were the two woman he normally spent time with. Ginny always seemed to be ready for anything and Hermione was usually five minutes early and dragging their arses down the steps.

"A big pain, you mean?" he asked, raising an amused eyebrow. "I'm not saying that, naturally. That's just what I've heard."

At least he was cranky about it like most blokes her age would be. Any one Daphne ever went out with really bloody hated it when she was late. No, she was not the most punctual person in the world at times, but she always had motives. This time, however, she was just completely stuck in her own little world thinking about why the world hated her so much that they would force her into a marriage that she was unprepared for.

She settled comfortably and crossed her legs beneath the table, looking over at him curiously. "We're not big pains all of the time. Just when we're fashionably late because we're trying to make a good impression." That list could have gone on forever, to be honest. "Us women have our moments, you could say. Though, I can't say much about blokes. You guys are a right bloody pain in the arse from what I've experienced."

Already he was amused by their conversation and there certainly wasn't anything wrong with that. If they were too busy being amused then they really had no time to brood, stress, and ultimately freak out on each other. So...definitely a good thing. "You're trying to make a good impression?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Seeings as it was the second time they had met, he figured the impression was already made, not that it was a bad one or anything. It was actually surprisingly pleasant...granted, he wasn't about to admit that out loud. Oh no, there were certain things best kept quiet.

"I won't deny it. We are." he shrugged with a laugh. "It's in our nature, so we really can't be blamed for it."

"I have to make a good impression on someone I'm marrying. We'll be together forever, I don't need to be married to someone who wants me dead." Ironically enough, she was pretty sure he had the same thought. At least that last thought. Bloody hell, she could just drop the whole act and spend the night being herself for once. But that might end up dangerously. Not for her, but for Harry.

First impressions were key, but second impressions lasted the longest. She was still brewing up a plan.

No, there was no denying that guys were complete gits at times. She had enough experience with men that she knew who would be tolerable and who would need a good smack in the face if necessary. "Merlin must have really hated us then. What, for sticking us with you lot, and all."

She certainly had that right. Though, internally the word forever felt like a kick to the stomach. Again, he just wanted to focus on one detail at a time. One detail at a time. "I know exactly what you mean. Why do you think I so willing offered to keep ice cream in stock." he smirked. "You can't kill me if I give you ice cream. It's one of those unwritten rules."

Harry had no plan of his own in the works, he was simply living from moment to moment...granted, he'd always lived like that so it wasn't too hard to imagine. If he randomly starting planning things he'd been very frightened. Something surely would be wrong with him.

"I don't think he hated you, I just figure it's because you needed something to do." Harry responded, with a shrug. Worked for him.

"Well, just be glad you are allowing this whole ice cream thing. If not, we'd really have some problems," she joked, looking over at him. "But you are correct. I cannot kill you if there's ice cream in the picture. Though, you must remember this in the future and we must always be stocked up."

Maybe moment to moment would work better over all for Daphne, though she was much better at being organized and having things planned out way ahead of time.

"Ah, well. I suppose you're right. I'd drink to that, but our waiter is missing in action currently," she said with a smirk. If there was one thing Daphne hated, it was a waiter who didn't offer drinks immediately.

"Duly noted." Harry laughed at that. There was just something about ice cream that made everything else far better, even if you weren't all that fond of it. No one could say no.

He hadn't even noticed that the waiter had yet to return, though he couldn't blame him. He didn't normally come here with...well, with Daphne.

"That would be my fault." Harry responded, catching the waiter in questions attention effectively drawing him over. "I normally come here with friends and we...tend to talk...a lot. It takes 15 minutes just to pick up a menu. They've learned to except that.

Daphne laughed at his last statement. She could understand that no matter what the situation was or who he was out with. Daphne did the same when out with friends, but they at least did it over drinks. "I talk more than I eat when I'm out, so it's not the food," she said, smiling at the waiter as he moved near him.

"Not ready to order, but I'll take some Sake and a glass of white wine," she said before looking over to Harry. She had a habit of ordering two drinks. Normally one alcoholic and the other just water or juice or the like, but she really couldn't resist sake and red wine was just a given with her.

"Depends on who I'm with, but I can agree to that. Half the time eating gets in the way of talking and, naturally, talking is far more important." he responded, with a shrug and a small grin.

Like Daphne, he couldn't resist the sake. He had never grown accustomed to drinking, but if there one drink he did like that was certainly it. "It sounds good to me, I'll have the same...but water instead of the wine." Alright, so perhaps it wasn't exactly the same.

After the waiter had once again disappeared from their table, he remembered the envelope he'd shrunk and stuck inside one of his pockets. "I think I was suppose to owl you when I heard back from my Realtor, but I only heard back this morning, so I figured I'd just bring the information with me. She said she has a couple locations in mind and sent along some pictures and the like. I just told her I'd get back to her."

"To me, the whole point of going out is to catch up and talk, rather than eat. I could eat any time I wanted to, but when I'm out, I rather just drink and talk." She also shrugged, per usual in this situation with Harry. "Sake drinker? I never would have guessed that about you." Daphne smirked and looked down at her hands.

When he went on to mention the bit about his Realtor and sending pictures, Daphne looked back over at him curiously. "Anything good?" she questioned, leaning in slightly. She was extraordinarily picky about her living conditions and wouldn't settle for anything less than the best, so she had to study every picture perfectly and investigate every flat when she got the chance.

Harry shrugged in return. You'd be hard pressed to find him at a point where he was feeling more alcohol then common sense, but that didn't mean he ignored a good thing when he found it. "When you're hooked on Japanese cuisine, you grow attached to the drinks as well."

Removing the envelope from his pocket, he discreetly returned it to it's proper side and handed it over to her. There was one particular spot that had caught his eye. It appeared really nice, large, and open.

"There's one in there that's listed on the east end of the city. It looks really nice, but the other ones aren't anything special and I've certainly seen better." he shrugged. "I told her to continue to keep an eye out so I'm sure she'll have more the next time I talk to her."

He had a pretty good point. When Daphne had traveled to Japan in the Spring a few years back, her brothers got her hooked on the drinks and the Sushi which she was now desperately craving. "This is true," she said with a nod, fixing her dress over her knees.

"The east side of London is very nice," she said, looking at the picture as she grabbed it from him. "It's nice," she agreed, looking it over in more depth. "Maybe we won't need to look at other places, I kind of like this. Think we should go check it out sometime?"

When he pushed the plate towards her, Daphne picked up her own chopsticks and took a piece of shushi. "You sure?" she questioned, though she knew the answer already and had gone ahead and dipped it in her Wasabi. Pushing the excess off onto her own plate, Daphne looked at Harry before taking her first bite of sushi. She chewed it and swallowed, savoring the taste for a moment before looking at him. "Brilliant," she said with a laugh.

Now it was his turn, so she pushed her own plate towards him. "It's only fair," she nodded and waited for him to take some before she proceeded to eat her own. "I won't lie," she said before taking another sip of her wine, finishing off her glass. "It's pretty decent."

Harry nodded his assurance when she asked and waited for her response to the sushi. He smiled, when she laughed and stated that she liked it. Well, at least he hadn't chosen a poor restaurant, though if anyone thought this place was a bad place to eat there had to be something wrong with them.

When she pushed her own plate forward, he took a piece of the kappa maki, having already tried the futomaki. Upon trying it, he had to give it credit. It was relatively good. "It has it's high points, but I think I like the Nigiri better." he decided, before giving a light laugh. "I always thought cucumbers were strange things. They don't really go with anything, but seem to be in everything."

He certainly did pick a good restaurant. Daphne wasn't too terribly picky about where she ate, but this place was one of the better Japanese restaurants she had been to in ages. Everything seemed so fresh, too!

She watched as he took a bite and smiled. "I like the cucumber. I don't know why, it just brings a certain texture," she said with a shrug, picking up another piece of sushi and dipping it in the wasabi once more. Same as before, she wiped the excess off on the plate and took a bite. It really was pretty decent food.

Harry nodded his agreement. He was quite comfortable in the current setting, so naturally that meant he needed a little tip of the scale to through him back into the tension...it just happened to be the way the world tended to work. He didn't like it but that didn't mean it wasn't true.

"So, know that we've actually had our designated 'at ease' time, I suppose we should probably work out these details." he sighed, taking another piece of sushi. "We've got ..what?...3? 4 days? Nothing like a little pressure to tick off the general populace."

Aah, when Harry brought up the amount of time they had left before they were bound, Daphne frowned, eating another peace of sushi in quiet. She was still outrageously irked that she was being married off against her own free will, but she had resigned to it.

"Can't wait," she said with sarcasm practically dripping from her voice. Again, it really had nothing to do with Harry, it was just the whole marriage thing. She felt as if she had been a used horse put into auction and sold off to the lowest bidder. Once more, nothing against Harry, but she did have her expectations when it came to significant others and not being pureblooded meant he didn't quite reach those expectations. "I still might flee to Antarctica," she joked, sipping at her sake now that her wine was gone.

"I hear you." he sighed, with a shrug. Like Daphne he wasn't exactly happy about it, but he was resigned. He figured, he'd lived through worse conditions, so he could very well handle this.

Despite not being happy, there was still plenty of things that needed to be done. "While I wish you luck on your endeavor," he responded, with a grin. "I suppose we should at least make it look like you'll be in the country. Was there a date and location you had in mind?"

"To be completely honest with you," she began, setting her sake down. "I have tried to completely avoid every thought about how quickly this is all happening. I think the only reason it's happening to quickly is so we won't leave and get out of this." She shrugged and looked over at him. "My parents are insisting Asteria and I have the weddings at our house in Suffolk. They don't want prying eyes and all that."

Giving a roll of her eyes, Daphne finished off the last piece of her sushi and gave up on the sake. She had slightly lost her appetite. "What do you want to do? It's obviously not going to be huge, just family as we've already discussed. Mum insists I wear a real wedding dress and make myself presentable for photos to send to my grandparents." She sighed. "I just want to get it over with. Maybe things will be easier afterwards."

Harry shrugged, picking at his own food. He could definitely understand how she could lose her appetite. He loved Japanese and he was finding it bitter to the taste all of a sudden. "I want to get this bloody thing and done and over with so we get on with our respective lives. I've had three spells backfire on me in the last two days because I've been distracted by this whole mess. No exactly a skill they look for in an Auror."

"I've just got my close friends and most of them will more then likely be dealing with their own weddings." he shrugged. "If it makes it easier, your Mother can have it the way she wants it. I don't mind at all."

Daphne laughed. "You're telling me!" she exclaimed, recalling the other day when she had a portkey completely swallow itself on her because she was so caught up in other thoughts. "I completely lost a portkey the other day. It swallowed itself and now I'm not quite sure where it would end up." In fact, she had just barely heard of that even happening before. Ever, but apparently it did. And apparently it happened to her.

"To be honest with you, my mum will have it her way no matter what, but she'll actually listen to me on this matter. Your best bet is to just show up early to sweet talk them for a bit. My father thinks it's a good idea, but my mum is livid."

Harry raised an eyebrow at her description of her own mishaps. He'd never heard of that happening either...though, he didn't know a lot about Portkey's either. "Well, you've got me beat. Impressive."

Sweet talk? Parents? He was sure that was going to be the biggest speed bump. Not to mention the description 'livid' wasn't exactly encouraging. "Any words of wisdom?" he asked, giving her a hopeful look. He'd only ever had to deal with Molly when she was angry and most times she had been angry at Ron, not him, and she'd been absolutely terrifying even then.

"I'm just lucky I decided to not test that one out," she said with a nod. Which was true, had she gone and tried it out, no one would have ever heard from her again. Bloody hell, portkeys all of a sudden seemed rather dangerous.

"Avoid the brothers," she said with a stern nod. "My father will be easy to talk to, my mum a little harder, but she'll get over it. She just thinks I'm in an awkward situation regardless of how good this is for me and my behavior, however my brothers are seriously thinking about blowing up the ministry. Or at least Shacklebolt. I don't think I've ever seen them so mad before."

That wasn't encouraging and you could tell by the look on his face that he thought so. "Avoid the brothers." he muttered, letting out a breath. "Duly noted."

He had now completely lost his appetite. It couldn't be one brother, oh no, it had to be two. Protective, older brothers. "I'm going to get my arse handed to me." he sighed. "Great. You don't have an Aunt or something who'll be hiding in the bushes to cut off my ear as I walk by, do you?"

He was suddenly starting to feel a little apprehension about this wedding. The rest had been locked safely away, but now it was starting to break through that barrier and he couldn`t say that he liked it very much.
